As many others have noted, the pool is there but nobody can use it because they refuse to repair the falling roof. It's now going on nearly 2 years in this condition and it's absolutely ridiculous. Other negatives; there is only one curl bar rack so if someone has made off with the weight you need your out of luck. Also the free weights are ancient and falling apart in some cases. Locker room stinks like mildew and wet dog, likely because they have the benches carpeted and seldom clean them. The lockers are tiny and can easily be broken into so don't bring any valuables... they won't be safe! Staff is very much into click groups so if your not into one of those... you will be invisible to them. Some of the cardio machines are in need of serious repair... i.e. hear monitor not working... etc... Only reason I still have a LA Fitness membership is because I travel a lot and can use other locations that are much better managed; especially the one's in Orange County... Alicia Pkwy & Crown Valley are much nicer! I may get a membership to another gym locally just to workout when I am at home and forgo dealing with this dumpy location. You would think after all the recent negative reviews management if not corporate would take note. I will add that one night a guy named Jake...big guy with a red shirt that had LA Fitness logo embroidered on the front was there re-racking weights that had been left on the floor... He caught two of the biggest offenders and had a talk with them about Gym Etiquette and their lack of... I loved it and told him so afterwards... sadly that was the last and only time I saw him at this location. 12/26/2017. Update: mercifully this location will close on the 26th of January - rest in peace LA Fitness San Carlos!

This is so wrong as the club has been fighting in court over some issue with the roof over the pool and I think egos got involved and after 2 or more years the club is closing. This is so lame as every weekend the club is out in the street getting new members and now the nearest club is Kearny Mesa. So wrong.

Not a very motivating gym, and the free weight room lacks adequate ventilation. Pool has been out of service since I signed up a year ago. I'm moving out if the area and went in a few days ago to cancel my membership. Front desk girl couldn't help. Apparently the only person that knows how to cancel ones membership is on maternity leave. A chubby personal trainer with a serious attitude told me I'd have to mail my request for a cancellation in to their corporate office. I went to their National City location and the atmosphere, the vibe, it was completely different. The staff was very friendly, and the club was far superior (including a pool you could actually swim in). They happily cancelled my membership in a few minutes time. Had I know this about the National City LA Fitness a year ago, I would have gladly driven the six miles out of my way, to avoid going to the Navajo Rd. dump.

Staff won't speak to you after they sign you up.
Pool has been out of service for almost 2 years. My parents and one of my son's are swimmers, whenever I ask about it,they tell me to speak to there Building manager.I don't pay the building manager monthly dues,but I do pay la fitness.

Went there with a 3 Day Workout Pass (a free trial) , after being interrogated for several minutes, they asked me to prove my local residency in order to use the pass , I asked how come? Isn't this pass supposed to be for marketing and encouraging new customers that might moved to area recently?!!!!
They said yes but when you move to a new place you have to apply for a government residential ID then come back. Seriously??? Is this a school and I'm applying for in state tuition??
Very rude and irresponsible, I don't recommend this place to anyone because they don't stand behind their words or actions

This location has a problem with its roof over the pool so the pool is not in use for over 10 months. Therefore you would have to drive to National City, Kearney Mesa/Claremont Mesa, or you can go to Poway or Mira Mesa..where this company has newer facilities...but this one on Navajo needs the locker room remodeled and a bit better housekeeping would be ideal. If they can do it in National City, they should do it here. They built all new free standing centers in Phoenix over the past 7 years as I Iived there and used the great places. I was told they would be building new facilities here, but have only seen it in the upscale areas and we who live upscale in San Diego Navajo and Jackson Drive areas of San Carlos seem to be last on the list in this district.

I have been working out here for about a year now, and overall it has been a good gym. Smiling faces at the door, good equipment, has a pool.

Unfortunately, the pool has been closed for several months now and I have lost my favorite form of cardio. What the hell is going on? The pool was half the reason I chose this gym! This time frame to get it back in use is becoming unacceptable. I might have to go somewhere else. Like everyone else, I am very dissapointed in how this matter is being handled. At least discount our monthly dues until it is back in use! Geez. How frustrating!

Worst situation ever. Joined when it was in the old Pizza Hut since it was between my work and home promising a pool in new facility. Now limited to exercise only in a pool I have been unable to use the facility for close to a year as the pool has been closed while they argue about who pays for it. Now they've won and still no action on fixing the pool or compensating the members who only use the pool. It takes an hour or more to get to other facilities after work and unable to do on a regular basis. In short don't join here they absolutely could care less about their members. Lots of clubs that do and the Y's and rec centers have great pools.

I along with others have been waiting to have roof over pool fixed for months. U are losing business and getting a bad reputation from members who joined for the pool U day use other facility there is only one 9am class and one would have to leave at 730 am to get there In time with heavy traffic. In addition when I looked at pool first time the chlorine smell was awful my eyes burned and my nose ran. Some thing is not right. One should not be able to smell chlorine. U are missing out on many me members on not having more water classes and having roof fixed. Disappointed client.

I really like this gym. There is a big variety of equipment and it is nicely spread out. The ladies locker room is always fairly clean. The best part is the spin class. Jennifer is an awesome instructor and she is inspires me to do my best. I have really enjoyed her workouts.

Up until about 8 months ago I would have given this gym 4 or 5 stars. I've been a member for most of the last 10 years. BUT, there's been a problem with the ceiling in the pool area since last spring (spring 2016) and they started a lawsuit with the building owner which has, of course, gone on for all these months. Now it's being decided by the judge. Whatever the outcome, it all should be irrelevant to the members. LA Fitness should have fixed the ceiling and then sued for reimbursement, if that turns out to be appropriate. Instead, the members have been the ones to suffer all these months without a pool and thereby getting only half of the services we're paying for. I consider this to be totally unprofessional, irresponsible and disrespectful to their members. There's never been any offer of some sort of compensation, other than to say members can use other LA Fitness facilities. Great, who's paying for the gas to drive back and forth, only to deal with larger than normal crowds because of the San Carlos pool being closed? Terrible way to run a business.

It is a nice gym overall... except that they could clean the floors more often in the free weight room from everyone dripping sweat on the rubber matting :( and there is only 1 squat rack for free weight movement which a lot of people have problems with waiting and sharing.... Also gets really crowded at times to the point where you have to be really outgoing anf friendly in order to get the workout you want around all the other people fixed in the tiny little space they call a weight room. But they got a million cardio machines and just took up even more room for a personal trainer spot only!! Girls behind the desk can be stuck-up and not very outgoing as well. One girl at nights lets her friends hang around up there and you got to listen to their racist comments about white people having small penises while your working out! not very professional to me :(

I love this gym. Employees are polite, smart, and friendly. The GM is always walking the floor talking to people and saying hi. Occasionally, some equipment needs repair but that happens at all gyms. Not docking them a star for that. They do get broken equipment fixed quickly. I go all times of the day and really enjoy the 10am-2pm crowd. 6pm gets a little busy, but still manageable to get a full workout in.
