I joined Left Coast in January 2025 and have been fully committed since! What I love most is that Left Coast truly welcomes all levels of practice. The instructors are dedicated to creating a space where you can feel your best — offering thoughtful guidance without pressure to follow mandatory moves. There’s so much patience and freedom to explore, allowing you to tailor your practice to your body’s needs.
Beyond the mat, there’s a strong sense of community. The team regularly hosts events that deepen the practice and celebrate cultural explorations — it really feels like a home for both growth and connection.
Big shoutout to Dana, a legendary instructor with incredible alignment knowledge and body awareness; Taku, whose playful yet intentional flow and excellent playlists make every class a joy; and Rachel, who brings scientific precision and deep anatomical knowledge to every pose. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of the teachers — each brings something special.
Oh, and the $85 first-month unlimited pass? Such a sweet deal to dive right in.

I've taken a good handful of classes and have loved most of the instructors at Left Coast. I've been to a few other yoga studios around Oakland and the instructors here are the best in town. Great practices, so knowledgeable and so relational. I love that most classes are lightly heated, enough for your muscles to relax but not too hot for those who are a bit more sensitive to heat

I live in the Laurel so I’m able to walk over to the Laurel studio, which I appreciate in general and also because I’m a senior and being able to get to the classes on foot is particularly helpful to me. I find the instructors so highly skilled that they are able to meet the needs of students who are at all levels of experience and physical fitness. Discovering this studio has improved my quality of life!

I've gone to yoga classes at LCPY for over 10 years, and I'm always impressed by their ability to keep things new and fresh. I love that they introduce new teachers and new classes to the community. Most recently, I've enjoyed a sound bath, hot pilates and buti yoga at this location. Highly recommend that you keep an eye on their social media for new events and workshops. I visit the Laurel studio less frequently due to convenience, but free parking is relatively easy, and the front desk is always friendly and helpful!

I've attended LCPY classes off and on for the last decade at both the Grand and Laurel (even previously downtown) studios, and online through the pandemic. At times when I have tried other yoga classes such as through rock climbing gyms or otherwise, I am reminded how special the LCPY studio and teachers are.
The studio is a welcoming environment, the teachers are caring and top notch, the music always hits, and the community of students are down-to-earth and varied. All body types, ages, abilities and skill levels are welcome. They are always coming up with new and interesting classes while still maintaining their core integrity. They have great customer service if there ever is an issue. In a world of transactional, corporate gyms, Rachel has truly made an impactful yoga and wellness institution here in Oakland that is different from the rest, and I'm thankful for it!

I attended a Power Yoga Foundations class here to start - My friend had started going and she gifted me a free class. I have never found a yoga studio I liked, as I am usually put off by the intensity of the yoga (like it's a competition for how flexible or strong you can be). However, this class was a breath of fresh air! The teacher was very quick with the different variations of moves, or how to use assistants to further your practice (blocks, straps, bolsters, etc). I never felt like it was a competition, and felt that that the teacher just wanted all of us to have a good practice. I loved it so much I proceeded to sign up for a monthly membership!

I love this studio! I discovered them through ClassPass, and started taking Dana's alignment class, which is consistently one of the best classes I've taken in over 25 years of practicing yoga. I've since purchased classes, have taken classes with Zach, Heather, Kiko, Rachel, and Melissa, and I have not been disappointed. This is my favorite studio in the east Bay.
In addition to great teachers, their communication is excellent, and they are continually growing and expanding their offerings. The community they have built is friendly, open and welcoming. Come check them out - you won't regret it!

I'm pretty new to yoga (have attended a few classes over the years, but never really "got into it"), and I have fallen in love with this studio! Rachel and the other instructors I've taken class with so far are wonderful - so welcoming to a beginner, giving good guidance on which classes could be the best fit and offering adjustments to poses that may be too challenging.
The vibes here are excellent, all the other students are very friendly. They have a sister studio on Grand Avenue that is also lovely, if you get a monthly pass you can go to either location.
Extra bonus - the cutest / sweetest dog at the Laurel Studio :-)

Years ago I practiced Bikram Yoga at the Balance Yoga Center in San Jose. I moved to the east bay and could not find a studio that I was willing to return to. The pandemic happened and I stopped yoga and focused on other forms of exercise. I recently was inspired to search the east bay again for a yoga studio that provided heated classes and Bikram. I was nervous my first class, I didn’t know what to expect from a yoga class that wasn’t Bikram and now I can confidently say after a few weeks of various classes with different instructors- I know why Left Coast Power Yoga is highly rated. Instructors are welcoming, encouraging of your practice being YOUR practice, and I have left each class feeling incredibly grounded. Special thanks to Sarah at Laurel for her special Bikyasa Flow and Liz at Grand for the Hot 70 classes that provide the Bikram practice I was initially in search for.
Thank you Left Coast Power Yoga,
I fell in love with yoga all over again.

I was running late, my shoulder was still hurting, and I was wondering why I thought going to yoga was a good idea. I entered the studio (my first visit to the Laurel studio) and immediately felt calm. The room was perfectly heated, the music was soothing and helped keep me out of my head, and the instructor, Rachel, was amazing! Her class gave me lots of opportunity to push myself while caring for my injuries. I'm a novice at best and Rachel was able to keep the class motivating for the "experts" in the class while I never felt left behind. Highly recommend! What a great way to reset my head!

A month ago, I was a total yoga beginner and skeptic. A friend insisted I set aside my biases and try it, so I looked up the closest Yoga studio and joined Left Coast Power Yoga.
It has been one of the best decisions I've made.
There are so many teachers, I doubt I could ever meet all of them. Some of my favorites so far are Dana, Nina, Melissa, Carlita, and Moses. Every class has diverse students of all levels, so I never get that "I'm the only one with no idea what's going on" feeling. The app is great for planning out a routine and scheduling classes.
Memberships include access to both locations, but I strongly prefer the Laurel location because it's quieter.
Overall, I feel better mentally and physically since I joined. LCPY is more than a yoga studio; it's a healthy third place.

Classes have been great. In the past week I've attended two Power Yoga classes, and one Restorative Yoga class. All of the Instructors have been very friendly & supportive to someone who is new to yoga. My first class the Instructor made sure to learn all new students names and if we had questions or limitations, so I felt at ease right away. The students are friendly too, some are super advanced and others are beginners like myself, its a very welcoming environment.
The Laurel location has clean bathrooms & changing rooms, extra mats, and other yoga supplies.
The heated Power Yoga class is warm but not uncomfortable ~80 - 85F; works up a great sweat.
Happy I signed up for the membership, since the classes have definitely helped increase flexibility , energy, and my overall exercise has been going better.
Looking forward to trying out the Zumba class later this week. I'm also hoping they add Pilates at the Laurel location.

Bless this local yoga studio! They got me through the pandemic with great teachers and good vibes, even over Zoom!
I first started going to Left Coast in February 2019 at their Grand location. I used to go to different studios all the time through ClassPass and I loved it! Something got me coming back for more Left Coast classes throughout 2019, that by February 2020, I decided to purchase a 22-class card from Left Coast directly in support of them! I attend maybe 1-2 classes then boom, pandemic! Lol. Bummer!
Flash forward, summer 2021! In-person yoga is back! I loved that they surveyed the members - and members voted to require COVID-19 vaccination. I felt much more safe and comfortable practicing this way. I signed up for a few in-person classes (using my old class card) and I was able to convert some classes to Zoom classes. I did this all over email and the team was always super helpful! They even gave me a fair conversion - since in-person classes were more expensive, they gave me a conversion rate of 2 Zoom classes in exchange for 1 in-person class!
In late summer 2021, they started requiring masks again indoors - I tried practicing with a mask on and really didn't like it! Because of this, I ended up converting the rest of my class card to Zoom classes. The team was happy to do so. They were always super kind and understanding in extending the expiration on my February 2020 class card as well. Shout out to Senia who has always been sooo nice over email!
I finally used up my class card this year and even did a virtual membership the last two months. I look forward to staying connected with this studio and checking out more of their events/classes in the future (I'm vaxxed and relaxed, ready for in-person again! Lol). They plan retreats, have cool events like sound baths, and have fun classes like silent disco, which I've yet to try with them!
These guys are great - please go support them!

This is my favorite yoga studio! I've been a student of LCPY for 5 years and was thrilled they have a space nearer my home. The studio is beautiful and has a great vibe and the teachers all have an athletic, fun approach which is my preferred style of yoga versus the overly spiritual vibe of some places, which often reads as really inauthentic and goofy and frankly makes me self conscious. That's not to say that meditation, sound baths, breathwork don't happen, they do, but without a lot of pretense. This is the low key studio of my dreams.

Left Coast is unlike any other yoga studio in the area. The owner’s vision is to create community around yoga, it’s principles and practices. She is continually creating new ways to connect the community. The teachers are skilled, well trained and give personal attention which isn’t always the case elsewhere. Rather than a corporate studio environment, LC is warm and welcoming. It’s my home studio and it really does feel like a 2nd home! It’s fantastic.

I started going to Left Coasts classes at the laurel studio as soon as in person resumed.
Now that the Grand Studio is open I go there as well!
I love the variety of instructors and class times. The studio space is gorgeous and clean.
I also really enjoy that all in person classes require proof of vaccination. It makes me feel much safer aBout resuming yoga in the studio.

This location is the newest of the studios in this locally-owned, woman-owned, POC-owned Oakland studio. (2 studios in Oakland as of Nov 2021.)
Rachel is amazing at fostering an inclusive community of yoga students and teachers. And the variety of yoga is great, too! If you want to have a strong body, a quiet mind, and a healed heart, Left Coast Power Yoga is worth your investment of energy.

I was super happy when Rachel and her people opened the Laurel studio. It's in a great location- easy parking, central, and a nice size studio, with good teachers. Faves: Hillary, Mario, Ana, Nina. Also a lot of classes at relevant times, and Amanda, the studio manager, is a sweetheart and makes everything go all the more smoothly!

I have been attending Left Coast Power Yoga for many years. Back when the Grand Ave location was the only one. Now they have the Laurel Studio which is great, plenty of space and props. The studio is clean and the front desk folks are very welcoming. Shout out to Jacqui and Nina for very thoughtful, fun and inclusive classes.

This place is a gem. Well-trained teachers add depth and verve to every class I've taken here. I love movement and have been to many, many movement studios. Teachers here combine challenge with insight, and they pay attention to the attendees. This is not just another yoga studio!

One of the things I love about Left Coast is that the teachers bring a sense of lightness to each class. They were a real life line during the COVID shutdown.

LCPY is incredible. Great location, lovely atmosphere (shoutout to the salt lamps), and the space was... spacious! I had an amazing class with Sarah, and I can't recommend this studio enough. Luckily, it's donation-based too if you want to bring along any hesitant friends. 🧘♂️
