My name is Mark and I am a personal trainer and health coach specializing in weight loss and muscle gain for the average person. I have a M.S. in exercise physiology with extensive experience in professional athletics including triathlon and ultra endurance cycling. I have years of experience coaching individuals in strength and cardiovascular exercise. In addition, I have extensive experience as a health coach helping people adapt their daily routine to one that is more conducive to a healthy and energy-filled life. Mark is an excellent trainer. Being in my 40's and working from home, I found myself with a lifestyle that was mostly sedentary. Even though I bought weights during the pandemic, i never found myself using them or gravitating towards resistance training - and the long and short of it was because I never really learned how to do it properly.

I've been with mark for about a year now, and I've noticed significant improvements in my health, mental clarity, and looks - I know the next step is on me to take care of my food/drink intake, but I never thought I'd say that I genuinely look forward to working out with mark at the end of a long day - several times a week.

Mark is also data oriented, and keeps track of progress. He adjusts each workout to make sure you maximize everywhere you can. His approach is thoughtful, and on top of that - he's genuinely a great guy.

Mark is a gem! I've been training with him since I was 8mo post-partum and the impact has been both immediate and life-changing. I came to him with recurring pain from re-injuring my back and he got me dialed in with the perfect exercises to quickly ease the pain and got me on a weight training regimen that built strength that prevented my back from going out again. If you are into running but want to get better at running by incorporating strength training and you are in the Bay Area, look no further. Mark Kolding is who you want. I was a complete novice when it came to strength work and had never been to a gym. Mark was so patient with me but adequately pushing me to get better with each session. Over a period of time, it got better progressively and I have seen my running improve in terms of speed and recovery after each run. Mark is very organized with making note of all the work we have done in each session so he can appropriately change the workouts or make them more challenging with each session. I had shoulder problems and was introduced to Mark by my PT. Mark and I started weekly training 4 months ago and my shoulder has improved. Surgeon says no to surgery! By the time I retired from a fun-filled career, my weight had ballooned to 292 lbs and I felt terrible. I was without a doubt, in the worst shape my life. After seeing some of my co-workers who suffered from strokes and heart attacks, I decided that it was time to do something about my weight and overall health. I've had a lifelong goal to ride my bicycle from San Francisco to New York city. Now that I'm retired, I have the time to do it without any time constraints. I knew I needed to do something to get in shape for this ride. I started looking around and I saw an ad on Craigslist for a personal trainer, Mark Kolding. One of the things I noticed, was in his own personal description. He's a competative triathlete and has completed cross-country bicycle rides in the past. He even competed in the Silver State 508, a non-stop 508 mile race across the Nevada desert. A race that is arguably the toughest in the world. I got a hold of Mark and started working with him in January of 2023. Within 7 months, I'm now down 55 lbs., about halfway to my goal weight. I feel so much better overall. My blood pressure and pulse are down, and my back feels much better.

One of the things that I've been so impressed with Mark is that he speaks from experience. Not only is he highly educated with a Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology, he lives the lifestyle he teaches. Mark has an incredible eye when it comes to training. He knows just how far to push somebody without going too far. He is completely attentive to his clients and devotes 110% of his focus on them during their sessions. You will never find him distracted or diverting his attention to his cell phone, other than to help and provide pertinent information. Mark has also been an invaluable resource for my diet, which he routinely keeps track of. Mark is very accommodating and flexible when it comes to scheduling. Give him a try, you won't regret it!

Mark is an amazing trainer. Over the past 9 months we have worked together to both build up strength and lean out. I first approached Mark in September of 2022, and had been in an intensive intermittent fasting cycle. So much so that I was barely eating anything, yet unable to lose any weight. Mark immediately came up with a plan of action and suggested I increase my intake and begin weight training with him. Over these past months I have gained incredible amounts of strength - I have lifted PRs in benchpress, squats, and deadlifts to name a few. Mark is a top notch trainer. His background not only as an ultra endurance athlete, but with his extensive education in exercise science and nutrition noticeably inform his approach when working from client from client. My mom and I often see him together, and his ability to modify and tailor the same workout plan to us both at the same time shows the attention to detail he puts into each of his clients. He is constantly listening and adapting the workouts to my strength goals, all the while pushing me out of my comfort zone.

I've worked with trainers in the city at twice the price, he gives them a run for their money. When I started working with Mark, I was returning from a year long break from work outs as I was recovering from a surgery. I could barely do simple core exercises without getting cramps in my stomach. I have worked with Mark for only two months now and am already seeing a huge difference in my level of strength.
I feel a higher sense of confidence in my ability to lift weights and a sense of strength through the day that I have not felt in a while. I cannot recommend Mark highly enough. He is amazing!

Earlier this year I got to about 50 (maybe 60) pounds overweight. I have been gaining weight fairly consistently (3, 4, 5 pounds a year?) since I was in my early 30s. I was approaching 300 pounds and knew I had to do something about it. I figured I could just eat less, exercise more, and lose weight (as has been my plan before). Well… it didn't happen (as was the case before).

I called Mark and we discussed my situation. He put together an exercise plan and a diet plan for me and he put me on his schedule for three days a week at 6am. The exercise and diet plans were challenging, but not unreasonable. I worked hard and watched what I ate, but it was never too hard and I never watched too closely. And, Mark held me accountable by being supportive of my efforts and keeping me enthusiastic about leading an active, healthy lifestyle.

Long story short, I lost about 30 pounds over the course of about 3 months. I’m in better physical shape (improved strength, flexibility, and endurance), have better eating habits (eating more good/less bad stuff, more aware of when/why I am eating, doing regular intermittent fasting), and I am on a path moving forward to maintain the gains I made and minimize the setbacks that are sure to come. I have moved on to working out on my own and I am trying to turn Mark’s help, guidance, and training into a sustainable (and sustained) lifestyle change - which has been a great success thus far.

He is fun to work out with and adjusts for any physical limitations while also tailoring our workout to help overcome those limitations. I highly recommend Mark as a personal trainer. Since I was new to personal training, and in my 50’s, I was wary at first, but Mark has earned my trust and respect by demonstrating his expertise in exercise science, body mechanics, and nutrition.

Mark has been instrumental in my fitness, weight loss, and nutrition journey over the past year. He patiently listens to my goals and challenges and helps me implement specific changes to improve my eating, activity, and general well-being.

I’ve been getting much stronger, my productivity at work has increased with my new energy and overall I feel better and happier all day long.

Mark has a unique skill set in that he is able to identify the amount of food you need right off the bat, and you get an actual color diet plan document. Mark helps me prioritize certain exercises over others, which is extremely valuable to me as I can get the most out of my exercise time. As an example, I'm shown how to safely perform exercises that help build strength and provide a stretch at the same time.

Mark is always very well spoken, on time, very positive, and helps hold me accountable in our interactions.
