I'm frustrated with the lack of service. The hot tub has been out of order for over a month, and it feels like they're still happy to collect premier membership fees without providing all the amenities. Tried to get water from the vending machine it took my money without a return went to the desk they told me they left VM for the folks responsible for the vending machine, they struggled to figure out how to refund $1.50 I told them I didn’t want the $1.50 they can keep it I just needed water they pointed me to restaurant at the plaza!

This has been my home gym for about a year. Good equipment- you have pretty much everything you need here for strength training and cardio. The gym goers are nice and courteous. I don’t use the pool or take any classes, but it’s nice to have the option. Locker rooms are clean but you have to bring your own lock if you want to use the lockers. Overall, great gym for the price.

Our family has made the difficult decision to cancel our YMCA membership.
I want to start by highlighting the positives. Our children have truly enjoyed the gymnastics program, and the childcare staff have been kind, caring, and supportive. These programs have been great, and I’m thankful for the positive experiences we’ve had. Personally, I’ve had a mostly great year, attending the gym almost daily and feeling welcomed every time.
However, I must share the reason we are choosing to leave.
I had two very upsetting and frightening encounters with an older male member at the gym. On both occasions, he aggressively confronted me while I was using a leg extension machine, yelling at me to get off — even though I was actively using it, with normal 30-45 sec. rest periods between sets. He didn’t like that I was using my phone during my rest breaks.
This man was doing a circuit workout, jumping from machine to machine, slamming weights and skipping cleaning protocols — despite the YMCA having two dedicated circuit areas. When I calmly told him I had just finished my first set and had three more to go, he continued yelling at me. He remained standing directly in front of me, intimidating me while I tried to finish my workout. I left the area in tears, humiliated in front of others, and feeling completely unsupported. I can’t understand how any reasonable person expects someone to do four to five sets without any rest.
After the second incident, I reported the situation to staff. I was visibly upset. Multiple staff members told me that this man — possibly named "Ron" and referred to as "Coach" — had done this before. He had been spoken to previously, yet the behavior continued. Nothing changed. He still comes regularly.
Worse, I began to notice some staff gossiping about the situation, which only increased my discomfort. I even started timing my gym exit to avoid being in the parking lot at the same time as him — that’s how unsafe I felt.
It’s disheartening that someone with a known history of aggressive behavior is allowed to continue threatening and intimidating members, particularly women. As a mother, I expected the YMCA to be a safe place not only for my children, but for me.
I’m sharing this not only to explain our departure, but in the hope that this feedback leads to real change. Every member deserves to feel safe, supported, and respected in this community. Unfortunately, I no longer do.

Can we start with the amount of people filming here I saw a woman going live on her of in the stretch room around 5 pm? Shortly after that I was trying to do lat pull downs and had a guy filming himself saying some odd stuff with me in the background.
I could’ve sworn this was a no film gym and I take my privacy seriously but no one is ever walking around the gym at 5 to prevent these things from happening

This is our favorite YMCA. I've been taking April's Wednesday zumba classes and I never knew working out could be so enjoyable. I look forward to this class all week.
The child watch here is also amazing. It's definitely our son's favorite child watch and he's smitten with Lily(spelling?) who is always so happy to see him. Thank you Lily and April! You guys make coming here every week a great experience for us.

I have brought my son here for swimming lessons 3 times so far, Saturdays in the morning. When I show up and have shown up a few mins late before (my fault) but when I ask anyone which class he's in and who his teacher is have gotten nothing but incredibly rude reactions and responses. No one has been helpful. Another mom had to let me know which class my son was in today because she saw how lost I was. I switch off every other weekend taking him here with his dad and it seems like every time it's a new teacher. Work on your organization and not being super rude when someone is clearly just asking for some guidance.

This is a big time monopolized facility- be careful if someone from the staff does not like you—- they will get you somehow- there is a yoga instructor that doesn’t even have the credentials to be teaching yoga and there she is; teaching the most wonderful art of meditation for mind and mind giving members a hard time and treating them like a pice of garbage… and she isn’t the only one without credentials teaching that amazing art called Yoga!!!! You know who you are and I hope you read this review and make you realize that you are NOT in God’s grace at this point and maybe you don’t even know God. That’s why you behave so irrational and sour(yes SOUR) big time you and your bigot behavior!!!! Human Resources should take a look at the credentials of these people(oh wait) that will never happen because they’re all in the same boat—- they really don’t care about the members except that if they see someone excelling they will BOOT YOU OUT!

This review is only on the basketball program for 7-9 year old .. if you thinking about it I suggest look into it harder .. my experience is one that will not have me returning. I came thinking the program will be great based on other ymca programs else where, But the league ended up being two teams facing off every game day. No rules no score .. not even a whistle even when parent gave one to the coaches. (New and wasn’t used) my son lost the techniques that regulated games he had from other programs because this way of playing. (Traveling, fouls double dribble) I understand no score .. but no rules .. I believe it bring poor habits being built. As far as staff .. everyone was very nice practices had great drills so in that side of things it was good but again without rules you can not implement great basketball habits which at this age is a must I believe.

Perhaps good for anything other than the weight rooms. Staff allows children and teens with no adult supervision or guidance. Kids crowd around machines, talking, and barely using them. Staffs response is for people waiting on equipment to constantly ask them to hurry.
There is a constant gross misuse of equipment. For examle, I watched a kid literally doing flips and acrobatics off an unsecured barbell in the squat rack for his workout. Staffs response was they have them sign documents when they sign up about use of equipment, but that's all they can do. I guess they think that covers them from any legal liability, and that's all they are worried about, but it is still highly negligent toward the safety of these kids and other members.
Weights are never put back where they belong. Kids hitting eachother with foam rollers. People literally vaping in the weightroom. I've personally never seen this kind of thing allowed in any YMCA or other gym in general in my lifetime.

My wife and I have been active in Chula Vista, McGrath, Santee, and Mission Valley YMCA’s. We have been dues paying members for 20 years. On their worst days the YMCAs in San Diego may not be perfect but they are never “incompetent” as one reviewer put it. We’ve always found they are competent, usually very friendly, and usually accommodating. As a Navy CPO it has been my job to judge the competence of others.

The layout feels a bit cramped on the second level. Especially once the gym gets busy. The equipment is also heavily used and could use an update. It’s moderately clean but I don’t often see people cleaning up after themselves with the disinfectant and towels. There are plenty of stations posted around with towels and cleaner. I did see one of the trainers wiping down some of the machines, but people should really clean up after themselves. Gym etiquette and cleanliness is appreciated by everyone. Considering how busy it gets, members should be more mindful of sharing spaces. The crowds are definitely my biggest drawback to using this facility.

Avoid this place at all cost! Not even Family Friendly! Men's locker room is disgusting!
I was with my family trying to Swim in the pool and before going in a juvenile blonde life guard came to us and with attitude shouting from far away asking me about my daughter's age!! and trying to apply non-heard of swimming rules.
I asked the manager for clarifications she responded "I am busy now and I can't help you" with attitude as well !!
this was Friday July 16th 2021 at 12:30PM. Manager was in the indoor pool and the other one was outdoor pool.
I went to the front and Cancelled my membership right away and asked for a refund!

I've been going to the YMCA for the last 4 years since I moved back to San Diego. This branch is my home because its closest to my house. But its always clean, family orientated and my kid use to attend the child watch. But things have change a little, I still go workout, they have cleaning stuff for all equipment and they give you a towel to clean it. Six feet apart on equipment and you have to wear your mask in certain areas. I really enjoying going back , the hours are extended a tad bit..

I don’t recommend anybody to sign up to a personal trainer at ymca because they are not reliable and its so hard to find a personal trainer matches with your schedule or your availability because most of them are booked already and you should be the flexible one when setting the times for the session not them ! I signed up for personal trainer and paid for 10 sessions asked specifically for a female personal trainer then in got surprised by male personal trainer calling me to set the appointments for my session because he is the available one then I called the supervisor Karen so she said it was a mistake and they didn’t realize your preference, then 3 weeks after finally a female personal trainer called me asking about my availability so we set the times together, I took 3 sessions with her she was good but unreliable she canceled my classes like 4 times at the fourth time when I told her this is your fourth time cancellation with a short notice like 30 minutes prior to the session with different excuses and I’m committed with a work schedule she text me that she can’t promise there wouldn’t be more cancellations and she can set me with another trainer! I was thinking if the personal trainer’s coordinator like that what about the rest ! it was such a bad experience , I asked to refund my money and she said her supervisor authorized the refund and she will be at the gym the day after to process it and until now I didn’t get my refund, left many voice messages to the supervisor asking about my refund she never called back! I thought when I signed for a personal trainer and paid all that money I will get service depend on my availability but unfortunately my experience was the worst and until now I don’t know when I will get my refund!

Unfortunately it’s come to this. Overall, a great facility but needs much improvement on the maintenance aspect. Approximately 6-7 months ago, they closed half of the men’s locker room due to supposed locker break ins and theft of personal belongings. By closing it, they removed all the lockers in that half. So now you have a very crowded half locker room, where if you enjoy having people in your personal space or sitting on another mans lap, then this is the place for you. Then on top of that, they hire so called managers who can’t answer simple questions, such as when will the locker room be completed. After complaining several times, they finally painted the walls. Then a month later, new carpet. But still no lockers and a closed room. It’s ridiculous at the response, or lack there of since in all reality, it’s not a cheap facility to belong to compared to others. And what’s even worse is the fact that the thefts were most likely because people like to put stuff in the lockers without locking it up. They still are doing that, so what’s next, no lockers when these idiots get there stuff stolen for not locking them? Very frustrating. And I know I’m not the only one, have talked to other guys who are considering dropping membership. I hope they get their stuff together, because I’m tired of bumping knees with everyone in the locker room. It’s not that hard people.

I went to the gym to attend a swim class this morning only to find out the class had been moved outside. I do not like to swim outside and only joined this gym because it has an indoor pool. But I went inside and found one lane open and went in. Before I even finished one lap, a woman at the edge of the pool waved me over and started yelling that someone wanted my lane and I would have to share. Nobody else was asked to share I did not want to, so I left the pool. I am not returning because the aquatic classes have been moved outside and because I think it was incredibly rude to take over my lane. I will be cancelling my membership.

I cancelled my membership today after I found they let people walk-in into the pool with their running shoes. It's insane, gross and they're okay with it. They informed me those wear swimming shoes. I can definitely tell those are not as I was swimming in the pool. I don't know about you but I I don't feel it's safe for my kids to swim in the pool. They have no protocol for sanitization of even those who wear swimming shoes. Their solution is add more chemicals to the pool water/can't control is similar to people going into the pool without taking a shower. Someone from county should investigate take action to protect the public.

The service in this place is unbelievably incompetent. Specifically, the front office staff members. I will ask them the simplest of questions and the people at the front desk, which are usually 3-5 people, are puzzled and make me look like the stupid one. For example, I asked them where the outdoor basketball court was and they said it was past the camp. They also mentioned that I couldn’t go unless there was supervision by a YMCA staff member. I asked them to send one and they said that they did not own the court. They just said one thing and changed it completely. If I were the manager, I would seriously consider fixing the front desk staff service one way or another. They sit there whenever I see them, acting like kids talking, laughing, and gossiping. For a clean, nice, and well kept YMCA, this staff is not what it deserves. And it certainly isn’t what we YMCA members and guests deserve as well. Me and my family love the place and we need people to act more mature.

I paid for a membership for my 13 year old daughter specifically so that she could use the pool. She is on swim team and is getting ready to begin junior guards for the third year in a row. The past 4 times she has went to swim she has been unable to, but this last time really got to me, apparently the pool was full, they happened to have younger kids learning to swim, my daughter asked if there was any way she could help out with the class just to get in the pool, as she has had experience assisting younger, she explained that she had been on swim team since she was 8 and really wanted ro get in the pool to prep for junior guards. They asked her age,and after saying she was 13 they told her she had to be 14, some of you may feel I'm out of line, but this is ridiculous. We pay for a membership to use the pool, which is never available. If you are thinking about paying for a membership for this purpose, i would, think twice.

Idea for a new class.
There are many people in the east county who are living with Parkinson's Disease. There is an exercise gym called Rock Steady which is helping many PD people but it is located in Encinitas. From east county that is too distant. This exercise program involves non -contact, boxing style fitness. It seems like a perfect program for the YMCA. I am certain that you would have the community interest.

Nearly-new facility with high-quality gym equipment and talented class instructors. The indoor pool, outdoor pool, hot tub, and kids splash park are always clean. However the pool and spa seem to be "down" for maintenance too often. This YMCA is far superior to its sisters in the east county. Monthly family fee is around $80 (updated July 2016). Guests are truly all ages and races. Everybody's welcome.

It's taking them forever to fix the outdoor pool heater.

We love it here. The youth staff are ALL awesome. My boys always have such a great time in the play room whenever I work out. I have zero complaints about any staff member. They do such a great job with my kids and always engage them, they always remember their names and get them playing and doing crafts/activities right away. For this reason alone (although there are many other wonderful things about this center), I love this place!

I really like the gym at this Y, it also has pools and many other programs for the community for a very fair price for students. They have every free weight you need to work out along with many treadmills and machines if you need them. Its always clean and the staff are friendly and helpful.

This place was discussing. Not only was it over crowded but a lot of the equipment was out dated. They also don't I force the rules in the gym. Not once did I see anyone wipe off the equipment after using it, and the employees saw this and did nothing !
If you want a nice clean facility your better off going to the Cameron family YMCA in Santee.

Everything is clean and the staff is friendly. I love that it's a family friendly environment. I wish they would open at 6am or 7am on the weekends because I like to workout early.

This is the best gym I've ever worked out at and everyone is so polite and friendly. Its right by Steele Canyon where I go to school. I love doing L.I.T. camp during breaks because I get to help kids with a lot of things. And they always bring me a smile on my face. I would like to say thank you for the good work everyone is doing to keep the gym.

The child watch hours are sometimes inconvenient and I dislike the open swim hours... Open swim should be all the time! Otherwise, it is an excellent facility. Super clean. Staff is always friendly. Also, I wish they were 24hrs or at least open at 4am
