On my way to the studio, I received a message from the vet that my dog’s labs had come back with concerns. I didn’t want to be charged the late cancellation fee so I decided to still attend class but kept my phone silenced and on me just in case. During class, the vet responded with recommendations and I was trying to figure out the severity of the situation. Marla, the instructor, came over and told me that phones were not allowed. I explained the situation quietly and told her that if it wasn’t an extenuating circumstance I’ve never brought my phone into the studio and that it was silenced and didn’t seem to be bothering anyone. She didn’t care and told me that I should leave, kicking me out of the class. My partner and I both left, which arguably is a bigger disturbance than if I had stayed. I can’t believe how unkind and unsympathetic Marla was. I first started going to Modo in NYC over 10 years ago and chose this studio when I moved to the area because I had such a great experience in NYC but I’ve decided to cancel my membership and go elsewhere. For a studio that preaches compassion, Marla seems to be the complete opposite.

BEWARE arriving 2 minutes AHEAD of class will NOT guarantee entry. It was my first time here and I was set to get to the studio 10 minutes early to class. Traffic pushed back my arrival to 6:25 pm. I couldn’t find street parking because it was gridlock hours so I had to circle the block which added 3 minutes to my arrival. When I got there at 6:28, the receptionist did not give any sense of urgency and was trying to make small talk and then she got distracted when another client walked in. By the time she checked in with the instructor it was 6:32 and I had missed the class by two minutes. I was extremely frustrated by the complete lack of flexibility. I want to emphasize I was NOT late. The receptionist could have ushered me to the class quickly but she didn’t. There was no clarification on where to park and very easy to miss the fact that they do not allow late arrivals when you’re just scanning the abbreviated class description on Class Pass. It took half an hour to get to the studio and I was frustrated to be turned away at the door. No where else have I experienced this kind of utter lack of accommodation in LA. I can’t imagine the accessibility issues for someone less able bodied. Don’t know if I will come back.

Modod Yoga is both a sanctuary and a place of great power...and havign taken to day with Emily Morwen I will express she is not only one of my favorite teachers at Modo, she is one of the greatest I've experienced anywhere. Her pacing and sequencing are superb and she empowers her students equal to every challenge she offers them. She is delightful, intelligent and masterful in her delivery and I am extremely grateful to be able to practice with her...

Wonderful studio. My first choice - Echo Park is awesome too. I have been coming here since I moved to LA and it's more of a home than any home I've had and lost in the city. Sadly, I had to give up my be awesome membership when another apartment became unaffordable and I needed to leave LA. But one day, I hope I'll be rich enough to do more than buy an occasional class pack. *See below for hilarious but sweet response from the studio about energy exchange... since I'm living in a different city most of the time.*

Terrible front desk and customer service. Arrived 2 min after start of class. 12:02 for a 12 noon class cuz this area is stressful for parking. They never start on time and the one time they do they won’t allow someone to walk in 2 min late. Everywhere in La and the world quite frankly has a 5 min grace period. They don’t even have a 1 minute grace period and are so rude about it. Yoga is meant to de stress and have compassion and to have an insane policy like this without 2 min grace period is just crazy in a big city. What is it to them to allow people 1 or 2 min late no one has settled in. Horrible :(

I had a mixed experience at this yoga studio. The receptionist was very rude and unwelcoming, which almost made me walk out. However, the yoga teacher Thalia was absolutely amazing, knowledgeable, kind, and truly inspiring. Their classes are the only reason I decided to sign up for a membership. I hope the studio works on improving front desk customer service, because the teachers definitely deserve better support.

Emily Bayer is so nice! I wasn't able to afford to continue my yoga practice and went in to inquire about the Energy Exchange program. Right then and there, Emily offered me to be her guest and within an hour, I was in class. Christine was the instructor and I got a really nice yoga session in. The poses were reasonable and some poses were new and other poses were fun and some poses were a little more difficult. A great range of poses, a great instructor, a marvelous experience. Thank you, Emily and Christine and the entire Modo Yoga staff for a warm and welcoming safe space. Thank you for being kind and gentle with me. Thank you for your encouragement and thank you for your presence. You are so wonderful.

They were AMAZINGLY warm and welcoming here at MODA on La Brea, after I had an 8 year hiatus from yoga. So caught up in life’s Ferris wheel of day to day struggles and stress. Thankfully, I moved very close to this studio and ran into a friend who was taking classes here and very pleased. I went ahead and decided it was (past) time to get back to myself and do something good for me. SO grateful to have had Morgan for my 1st class. She was an angel guiding me gently back to my practice in the most warm, supportive way. I felt so relaxed in her class yet motivated to continue my yoga practice now more than ever! Matthew was also super nice at the front desk.
Ivorie is PHENOMENAL. I had taken classes from her before at another yoga studio. She brings so much physiological insight, meaning, substance and LOVE to her classes! Modo is my yoga home now. Beautiful vibes here!

I recently had the pleasure of attending a yoga class led by Ivorie at the La Brea location, and I can confidently say that she is one of the best instructors I have ever encountered, not just in this studio but across all Modo locations.
Ivorie's background as a former Cirque du Soleil dancer truly shines through in her teaching. Her deep understanding of the body's muscle structures and movement mechanics elevates her classes to a level of professionalism and expertise that is hard to find elsewhere. She combines this knowledge with a grace and fluidity that makes every pose feel accessible and attainable, no matter your skill level. She has an incredible knack for breaking down complex movements, ensuring that everyone in the class understands the hows and whys of each pose.
What sets Ivorie apart is her thoughtful and intuitive approach to instruction. She has an innate ability to read the energy in the room and adapt her classes accordingly, tailoring her cues to meet the needs of her students. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or a complete beginner, she makes every participant feel welcomed and valued. I appreciate how she provides modifications and encourages us to listen to our bodies, fostering a safe and nurturing environment for exploration and growth.
The atmosphere she creates is both calming and inspiring. Her fluid transitions and articulate explanations not only keep us engaged but also motivate us to push ourselves just a little further. Ivorie's passion for yoga and her commitment to her students' well-being are palpable, making each session not just a workout but a holistic experience for the mind, body, and spirit.
If you're looking for a top-notch yoga instructor who will challenge and inspire you while cultivating a supportive environment, Ivorie is the one to seek out. Her classes are a delightful journey that I look forward to every week, and I can’t recommend her highly enough!

Modo Yoga is my favorite place to practice. Matter of fact, it’s the only place I practice. Clean space, welcoming staff, and even a cold plunge to cool down after class. Being within walking distance makes getting to class on time an easy win, but the real reason it’s become a regular practice for me is the teachers. Ivorie is hands down one of the best—her classes are dynamic, intentional, and never the same. She puts so much care into every session, often weaving in themes that keep the practice fresh and meaningful. Caroline is another favorite—her classes are solid—but honestly, every teacher brings their own unique energy. I’m so glad my friend Olivia referred me to Modo; it’s truly changed my life for the better.

Modo Yoga on La Brea is a comfort blanket for me. LOVE the dim room / hot yoga combo, which makes it hard for me to practice at other studios with brighter lights. From the check in to the class, the energy of the staff and studio are always on point. I am a cult follower of this yoga studio. I’ve been coming at least 4 times a week for the past 6 months and I just can’t recommend it enough. All of the instructors bring their own strengths to each class. There’s a class for every type of athlete, yogi, or just random person looking to meditate and feel healthier physically and mentally. EVERYONE greets you so pleasantly without agenda. No hassling like a regular gym membership. It really feels like a community. Shoutout to Victor for being my favorite front desk friend; JRob for getting me addicted to cold plunging; and Shundreya for expanding my reading list and spiritual studies!!!

Until recently, I've only attended the heated HIIT Pilates classes here. No complaints at all about that one - I've had two different instructors (Madisyn and Florence), and they were both great. This class was always challenging and I would leave feeling like I got a great workout in. Both teachers had great energy and were helpful and encouraging. Based on the HIIT Pilates classes alone, I would have rated this place 5 stars.
However, I had such a baffling and bizarre experience here recently that I don't anticipate ever returning again.
I decided to try out my first hot yoga class here, and my instructor was Simonee. I arrived to the studio 10-15 minutes early. There were two staff members (a man and a woman) at the front desk who were each helping a customer, so I waited in line to check-in. The female employee finished with her customer first, so I went to her, smiled, said hi, and gave her my name. Being that it was a hot yoga class, I needed to rent a sweat towel. However, not only did she not ask if I needed anything for class, she just didn't say anything at all - it was very bizarre, she literally sat silently, staring me in the eye, with a disgusted look on her face.
I didn't really know what to do, so I kind of just stood there feeling awkward and waiting for her to acknowledge that I was checked in so I could rent my sweat towel and be on my way. After quite literally about 30 seconds of this, another customer entered the studio behind me. The employee literally JUMPED out of her seat and excitedly greeted the customer by name, gave her a hug, and started making conversation with her... meanwhile I'm still standing there not knowing what to do. At this point, the male employee finished up with his customer and offered to help me out. He was kind and efficient.
Once I was in the class, the instructor walked in the room... lo and behold, it was the female employee from the front desk. The class itself was very challenging, but it felt very different vibe-wise from other yoga classes I've taken. It didn't feel like the spiritual components were there, it felt more just like pure exercise. I got a good workout in, but the yoga classes I enjoy most also leave me feeling spiritually nourished, and this one didn't do that.
The class environment was kind of odd as well - the person to the left of me was doing literal acrobatics, which is fine, I'm happy for her that she can do that, but it's like girly we are supposed to be in happy baby right now and you're doing a stationary cartwheel. The person to the right of me put his mat down so close to mine (he had plenty of room on the other side) that the whole time, his sweat kept flicking all over my face and body. At other studios I've been to, the instructor will gently handle it if a student is being distracting or getting too close.
As I was exiting the room after class, Simonee and I made eye contact. I gave her a polite smile, and she responded by LITERALLY looking me up and down, curling her lip, and giving me a completely disgusted look even worse than the one she gave me at check in! I was so shocked, I didn't even react.
I've never met this woman before in my life, it was very bizarre. Maybe she was offended that I, not knowing she was the instructor, assumed she worked at the front desk and thus approached her to be checked in..? Or maybe this class is just for regulars, given how warmly she treated the clearly-repeat students throughout class.
Regardless, it was such a shocking customer service experience and made me feel completely unwelcome here. Despite my positive experiences with other classes and instructors, moving forward I will likely avoid this place entirely because of this experience.
I have never been treated like that at any business establishment I have ever been to in my life. Perhaps if Simonee chooses to be more in tune with the spiritual, love and unity based side of the practice of yoga she could feel compelled to improve on this.

Whether you’re experienced or unexperienced, I strongly suggest you pass on this La Brea located studio. Don’t waste your peace, practice, energy, or $32 on a class here. There are far better yoga studios in LA that offer a better (cleaner and unpretentious) yoga experience.
I’ve been here plenty of times (including other Moda locations) to discern at this point that this is just a physical exercise for this particular location, it is not a place of peace, moral virtue, etc. that the philosophy of the practice harnesses.
I’ve practiced yoga for twenty years (around the world) and have never been to a place that doesn’t honor the purpose of the practice as much as this studio.
The studio is not the tidiest and it is not an authentic yoga studio filled with spiritual, welcoming, socially conscious individuals that are leading with unity and love (two concepts that are essential to all limbs in the yoga philosophy).
It is also NOT a cultured place to practice ( I am a person of color, a blend of cultures). The uncultured part never bothered me so much until today when I felt a prejudice.
Before the class started an older white woman who wanted to position herself where she was comfortable (meaning I had to move my mat I placed before she walked in) LIED on me. She went out to the front desk and lied and told the instructor (Deacon) that I was on the phone while I was stretching. I was never on the phone and would never be on the phone when entering the business, studio, before class starts, etc.
She also told him that I wasn’t on the red tape. Not many were, most were on the black tape. She had been weirdly eyeing me out while I was stretching as if she was bothered by my presence, but I paid it no mind.
Well, the instructor (Deacon) stormed in, not to make an announcement to everyone, but to stand over me and my mat and single me out… demanding that I put my fanny pack (that I carry my emergency contact info in) in a dirty locker (they’re never cleaned) and made me move my mat.
As I walked to other end of the wall to move completely away from the woman, I noticed that not all practitioners were lined up to the red tape, but he never made an official announcement to everyone. It was about singling me out and making me move to make her superior.
I would have handled that completely different, but again, it’s this particular yoga studio that has this bad energy looming.
The irony of it all.. before the class started, when I checked in at the desk, the concierge asked if I had any special requests, and I simply responded “for the instructor to go easy on me” and the instructor, Deacon was sitting there and heard me.
The times I’ve practiced here, the instructor (referred to as Deacon), has had a hard core rude personality and carries himself with an unnecessary level of superiority. It is a very unpleasant energy, but if you love sarcasm, have a high threshold for being talked to rudely and having your positive spirit nudged for unnecessary petty things before class starts, and can tolerate prejudice…you’ll be fine. I live 5 mins away, but it won't be an option going forward and I'll never recommend it to anyone. Ever! By far the worse yoga studio I’ve been to in Los Angeles. Set your intentions elsewhere .

There are a million other yoga studios that are better and less pretentious than this place.
For a yoga studio they don't have any leniency. I was literally 3 minutes late and they didn't let me in. I've been to another Moda before and they were slightly better but this one sucks.
I drove 25 minutes to be there. Took me 5 minutes to find parking and they were not even a little bit understanding.

I recently became obsessed with hot yoga after trying it for the first time in July 2023.
I had an incredible experience at Modo hot yoga studio, and I can't help but praise it. I’m on class pass and recently had the opportunity to practice in many yoga studios, such as CorePower Yoga, Sweat Yoga, y6, and more. Modo yoga is my top priority when I book a hot yoga session on ClassPass.
I live in Santa Monica, and since they closed the Venice location, this is the closest location to me.
From the moment I stepped in, the cleanliness of the facility stood out. The well-maintained space added to the peaceful ambiance, making it a welcoming environment for a rejuvenating yoga practice.
What sets this studio apart is not just the ambiance but the expertise of the instructors. Their deep knowledge of yoga and its nuances is evident in every class, ensuring a fulfilling and practical session. Additionally, the convenience of renting mats and towels makes the experience hassle-free. The cherry on top is the spacious showers and bathrooms with everything you need post-practice, enhancing overall comfort and satisfaction. Nothing is like a cold shower after a sweaty, hot yoga session.
If you're in Los Angeles and looking for a top-notch hot yoga experience, this studio should be at the top of your list.
Parking- during the AM, you can park on the side street; it’s free for two hours even if you don’t have a parking permit.
On Saturday, I was able to park right outside of the studio by the parking meters.
Other reviews mentioned they have a valet parking close by.

Just did the 2 week unlimited for first time students. I highly recommend Modo. I practiced at the Echo Park and La Brea Studio’s. What was comfortable and reliable was that the studios flow and function the same. Excellent and professional teachers that teach at both locations. The La Brea location- Staff, teachers and general students seemed down to earth, approachable and inviting- no weird yoga false pretense which unfortunately sometimes can happen at yoga studios. The facility is clean, easy to maneuver, and great amenities. Staff are kind and helpful. Modo offers an array of classes- I look forward to more! Thank you

This is by far my favourite hot yoga studio. The instructors are amazing, and you get a great workout in… I always feel welcome and it feels like you’re part of the family from your first visit. Highly recommend!

Such an amazing yoga studio. Great mix of class types and times to accommodate all levels and schedules. Very clean and welcoming space with a friendly staff and fellow members. The studio has an amazing community and peaceful atmosphere. The Instructors are very engaged during the class and provide a breadth of cues to help improve your practice. I cannot recommend this studio enough. Modo yoga is my happy place :)

The parking is so bad. Every time I need to spend 20 mins to find the parking spot. So stressful, and the opposite result is you want to do yoga. There was a day there was no parking at all I called them ahead and said no parking at all while on the call I found a spot and was not sure it was I'm to park there but I decided to park there. But they said they wouldn't let me in even though I'm only 1 mins late. Personally don’t suggest you go to this location.

I'm 3 months into regularly going to classes here and have a felt major change in my body. The heat is the perfect level - not overwhelming but definitely warm. The heat level makes it easier to stretch deeper into the poses. I always come out of class feeling physically & mentally renewed!

This place is so awesome! I was a true beginner - I had never done hot yoga before - and everyone made me feel so welcome. The teachers are amazing, the space is beautiful, and the classes are a great mix for all levels. Now I go all the time and would highly recommend for anyone interested in hot yoga.

Love going here for a variety of hot yoga classes. Always super clean and friendly. I find that they don’t heat the room as much as Fire Hot Yoga but it’s sufficient to get your muscles to relax.

Very solid yoga studio in La Brea. All classes are hot yoga but not like Bikram(I found to be too hot). 2 studios offers a variety of classes. I recommend you take the Modo class, yin Yang, moda flow, core flow in that order of difficulty. They also have a studio’s in Echo Park and Venice

I’ve loved my experience at Modo, both this location and the Echo Park one. Some classes use breathe as the music and others have actual music (the name of the class will denote which one it is). The heat is a great addition to the practice. I’ve had inly wonderful experiences with the instructors. The only thing that is difficult about this location is the parking. On cross streets it’s 2 hours between 8-6 M-F and No Parking at all other times so unavailable for weekends or early AM classes. On the same street as the studio there’s a no parking block that starts at 7am so I’m honestly at a loss for parking for the 6am classes.

I tried two classes at Modo and I don't think they do a good job at making it an inclusive environment for beginners. The instructors don't explain what muscles you should be engaging in each pose, how to make modifications, or walk around to offer corrections like I've experienced at other studios. I found the environment pretentious and probably best suited to very experienced yogis.

I'm new to yoga and and several visits to Modo have really put me off yoga as a practice -- I was really hoping for a focus on the fundamentals of the movements and to get some pointers from the instructor. I'd give Modo a miss if you're new to yoga, it is probably better suited for more experienced folks.
A side note, there is a real draft near the emergency exit, at one point I was actually a little chilly!

I didn’t love this place. They make a big deal about being even a second late to class and won’t let you in (which I get it- it’s disruptive- but everywhere else I’ve ever been has at least a brief grace period- life happens), and also about leaving the studio during class. Y’all it’s damn hot— if I’m not feeling well best believe I’ll step out.
The vibe is that they are trying to hard to be ~chill~ that they are definitively ~not chill~.

I've been going to this location regularly since the first weekend of September 2017. I'd wanted to check this place out for several years, but had concerns because of a back injury. My current gym's yoga classes were not adequate for what I'd been previously accustomed to.
The first day was a little intimidating. I arrived 15 minutes before the class started and had to sign a digital release form on my state of health, goals, and I was asked by the instructor what level of yoga I'd taken previously. I answered, "I've done everything!" Great. The instructor informs me no ins and outs since the class is packed! Oh, and it's a 1 hour and 30 minute class with the thermostat set at 100F degrees!
An hour or so into it I'm starting to freak out. Can I do this? Then we are told to rest, drink water as the AC kicks in. I can do this! At the end of the class I'd signed up for the $50 Intro Month Special.
A week into it and I was reached out to via email and asked how it was going and if I wanted another month for $60. Hell YES! By now I was hooked and back into the flow of it. My back has been feeling much better as I've been building my core strength.
I've been renewing my Be Awesome membership every month since. Great place, vibe and instructors who actually take the time to make sure you know how to get the best out of your yoga practice! I love this place! 5 stars all the way!

I never thought I would enjoy hot yoga until I went to Modo. Even as a beginner and newcomer I felt right at home. The studio is clean and peaceful and the instructors care about your technique and experience. I’ve only been practicing at Modo for a month now and it’s already become my daily therapy. Great workout, great people, & great practice.

I happened to walk by Modo on a whim, they offered a free class - so i was all, let's give it a shot!
And full disclosure, I'm a year shy of fitty, but I'm pretty athletic - swimming, martial arts ... but I never did a hot yoga class, and for the first 5 minutes, it was challenging, but in a good way.
After it was done I was hooked!!!! I've signed up and try to go as often as can. It's been a month and I feel just great!
The facilities are great, and the teachers - especially Simonee and Carolina are no joke!!!!
I'd 1,000% recommend it to anyone.

I moved to LA recently so I am shopping for a new yoga studio to go to. I have been doing hot yoga for about 3 years only, but my studio back in Florida have been amazing and staff are genuine. I came in with my friend at Modo to inquire since the location is perfect it's walking distance from my apartment, as I walk in, a gentleman looked at me and my friend, I said hi and I told him I'm interested in signing up, he looked at me again and my friend and asked us, "do you even do hot yoga" in his passive tone. I looked at him and smiled and politely said yes I have. Then a girl at the desk who apparently doesn't even work there commented about the cupcakes we're carrying, like we're disgusting for even having them. I just think these staff are pretentious, as a yogi, they're attitude isn't positive and that's not what you expect from yoga instructors. The energy you give is the energy you'll receive. I hope Modo management will closely look at the staff they hire. I'd still want to find a good studio so hopefully I'll find one soon :)

What a sweet bunch of people. I had such a good time here. The front desk people were superfriendly and helpful, the class was amazing (taught by Carolina!) and I left feeling like a million dollars (seriously I only have like 10 grand in the bank and no retirement). So feeling like a cool million is good. Now let me go blow some money on new clothes and shoes. Holla!

I liked it. I just started a 30 day pass. They extended it during construction. The front desk person I met on a Wednesday night was very nice. The teacher was very nice too. One of the negative posts seems odd and needs more specifics because I honestly don't see what they're talking about. I had never been there and look forward to taking more classes. The studio is nice and I love that it is near the den meditation studio. Maybe I had a great experience at Modo because I tried the class after 2 meditation classes. I love that they have a 5:45am and 9:45pm. I loved the positive message signs also..."don't hate meditate" and "your vibe attracts your tribe".

if you looking for the place to relax after long taugh day and practice some yoga - go and find some other place! the customer service is a piece of crap ! I was late 4 mins and they would not let me in. they would hold me at the reception desk explaining about some crap policy about not letting people in as soon as teacher goes into the room. well I have been at those classes before and teacher was in and still couple of people would come and enter the room. waste of the evening. waste of the driving and waste of the money I spent for the babysitter I paid to go and enjoy and practice the yoga !

One of THE WORST yoga place I have even been in my living life. I'm so upset that I wasted my money here. It makes me wanna cry.
1) THEY DONT HAVE PARKING
2) FRONT DESK HAS MAJOR ATTITUDE
3) NOT YOGA STANDARD MOVES, their teaching is mediocre
4) ITS DIRTY, locker rooms are nasty!!! Ewww
5)THEFT ......
6) THEY CHARGE YOU FIR EVERYTHING, I'm surprise they haven't yet charged people for breathing....this just shows they only want your money and don't give a $hit about you.
7) THEY ARE NOT EVEN ON YELP, that how much they suck!!!
I am not sure how they have 4.8 rating other than the fact they rate them self--- fake rating.
I have taken yoga more than half of my life and this place is the worst I have ever been to. I was literally late 4 min and they refused to let me in....it's a joke because I have been to strict Bikram yoga and even then they give 5 min grace period. Please save your money and go some where else this place will ruin your motivation and love for yoga. I'm so upset I feel like I have been ripped off....from the start their was a weird vibe to it and I still decide to give them a chance and it was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!
There so many places in LA to take hot yoga/bikraham I only went here because it was close to me :((((
Thank God it was only $40 they ripped me off.
I'm sorry but it's even about the money it's....it kills you inside if you had plan to get back in shape and you feel all inspired then you go to a place like this and all the sudden you don't even wanna attend a class anymore because of the service!!!!
I have never rated a place so negatively not do I ever have time but this place pushed me out of my mind.

Modo Yoga LA is absolutely amazing! The studio itself has a great aesthetic/modern vibe. All of the staff (front desk and instructors) are friendly and super knowledgeable. I come almost every day to workout here. This studio has literally changed my entire life! 1,000,000% impressed!! Modo is NOT a pretentious studio. Everyone respects you, your body and whatever stage you are at in your practice. This place has an amazing sense of community and family-like-feeling. The students and instructors are incredible people--warm, friendly, super compassionate and everyone welcome newcomers with open arms. They have several different levels of class (all hot yoga). The locker rooms and bathrooms are also impeccably clean and well-maintained! I am a fan of Modo Yoga for life!!

The dedication, the culture, the workout, the sweat!!! I can honestly say that MODO is one of the better practices in my life. Every time I practice I feel better and at the end of the day, I am better. Emily, Deena, Joe, Ezmy and everyone at the studio are like spiritual family. I love the studio (clean, premium and inviting), I love the teachers and facilitators (warm, deeply vested souls) and I love the practice (a challenging mix of soul and sweat :) You can't beat it!
