This Sunday afternoon my friend invited me to go to a dance studio Which was start at 5 p.m. for a belly dance class. At the front desk, there was an older lady. I asked her if I could pay without a reservation, and she said yes—I could take the class first and pay afterward.

During the class break, I saw a younger woman sitting at the front desk, so I asked her for the WiFi password. She told me their WiFi wasn’t available for customers. Then she started lecturing me, saying that my friend and I were “not listening,” and that she had already messaged us telling us we needed to book online before taking a class.

I told her that I had already asked and was given permission to join the class—you all could have refused me at the beginning. She then looked at the older belly dance teacher and said that the older lady was a new employee and didn’t know, and that she was actually the owner of the studio. She said she wouldn’t refuse me from taking the class. In my mind, I thought: You didn’t refuse me, but is it polite to lecture me about your rules in the middle of the class?

Then she ask me enroll online, I told her I was waiting for my friend to send me a referral link so I could get a $10 discount. She said that since I had already taken the class, she will unable to let me use the discount. I explained that I was still a new customer, and as long as I could complete the payment online, I should be able to use it. She quickly gave in.

I gave her $20 in cash and signed the waiver. She told me I could go back and finish the class. I told her I was already done. After the class ended, she questioned my friend like a school disciplinarian, asking whether she had received her message.

I’ve taken classes at several dance studios in Sacramento as a new customer, and it’s not my first time paying in person without a reservation online.But this time, the business owner and staff had messy internal training and rules, and somehow I ended up being the one “educated” during my first trial class.

I’ve been a student here for four months now taking Pole 1. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. This studio is taught by the kindest & most knowledgeable teachers who truly go above & beyond. I’ve had classes with Ceci, Destiny, Courtney, -a class taught by Iona, and a Mobility class taught by Allie -and I love each of them. I’m on the curvier side who is returning to resistance training after a LONG hiatus & Pole is doing wonders for me. I’m losing body fat, gaining strength, and am all around, much happier. As a deep soul, the encouragement of teachers (and fellow classmates) brings tears to my eyes at times! It is an honor to be a student here. Grateful!

The best pole/aerial studio around! The instructors are extremely educated and kind! This studio is an extremely loving and welcoming space. They have classes for all levels. Not to mention the studio is gorgeous and has the tallest poles around. Would recommend this studio to anyone looking to try something fun and new or find a new pole/aerial home

It's a beautiful, light, welcoming studio with a really awesome staff of instructors. The in-house teachers, Ceci, Courtney, Destiny, Allie, Iona, and Sabra to name a few, are all uniquely talented with a variety of styles and class levels to serve students of different experiences. Pole is my favorite but I know the Ariel Silk and Lyra classes & instructors are great too! Monarch also frequently hosts highly acclaimed instructors from around the world, bringing awesome learning opportunities to the area! Everyone is really welcoming, supportive and encouraging. If you are considering it, come try out a few classes! You won't regret it!

I absolutely adore this studio and all of the instructors who teach here ♥️ So far I have taken classes with Ceci, Courtney, Iona, Allie, and Destiny, and they are all so incredibly talented and supportive!!!! I have social anxiety, but I always feel supported and encouraged by them and they teach in a way that is easy to learn from. Ceci has started offering choreo classes where she teaches the same choreo on both sides and it has helped me so much in maintaining better body alignment. I LOVE all of the instructor’s styles. They each have something special to offer and there is a large variety to learn. I am so happy with the progress I have made as a dancer by coming here regularly and it makes me excited to continue. It’s also been incredible to have the opportunity to learn from instructors like Estefanía Jiménez and Doris Arnold. Monarch’s first showcase was soooooo much fun and I am beyond excited for the upcoming Halloween showcase. This studio really is so special and I am so grateful to be a student here 🥰

I love this place, all the instructors are so sweet and encouraging. It’s definitely a judgement free zone. Everyone including the other students cheer you on when you do a difficult move. They also have fun couple classes once a month or so so watch out for those announcements on their social media. It’s a cute light hearted date idea for you and your other half to make memories.

As a bigger girl I had my apprehensions about feeling comfortable and succeeding in a workout program like this. But after my first class wIth Courtney all those feelings went away. Pole dancing at Monarch has not only improved my workout routine, it has also improved my confidence. I recommend it for anyone who is looking for a good workout that also makes you feel sexy.

This is the cleanest, cutest, and most knowledgable aerial dance studio I’ve been to in the Norcal region. The owners Courtney and Cesi are some of the most talented instructors I’ve met and they really go the extra mile to make sure that their studio is a safe place for anyone and everyone that is looking to learn the art or to just come in for some fun! They stand apart from other studios especially being that they offer all types of aerial dance, as well as classes for kids which is just so amazing for my young niece and I! I’ve have the pleasure of partaking in all types of their offered classes and have met all their instructors and have had a wonderful experience with each and every one of them. Courtney is an absolute goddess of mastery with teaching pole tricks and Cesi is an inspirational creative with her choreo classes. Monarch Pole Dance is amazing! I have taken classes with Courtney and Ceci and have always had a good experience. They are both very patient with me in choreo and pole level 1, as I am a plus size gal with lots of back issues. Cecis choreos are always fun, and she is so great at explaining moves if your confused. This location is so clean and beautiful! Highly reccomend!!

This studio has such a lovely and clean environment with very welcoming owners.

I've been taking intermediate choreo classes with Ceci for a few months. She always comes prepared with the most divine choreo which focuses on mastering the nuances of each move. Her clear and patient instruction has facilitated my growth and I feel accomplished at the end of each class.

I have also participated in two workshops, one with the indomitable Estefania Jimenez. A very impressive workshop offering for a new studio.

If you're nervous about trying Monarch out, don't be!

I love Monarch, such a beautiful studio with amazingly tall poles! The teachers are knowledgeable in their crafts and provide the best coaching to their students. I love Courtney’s level 3 classes, I feel challenged and inspired, and she offers cues that help me get into moves that I have struggled with in the past. Cecis choreos are gooey and fluid, and her song choice always makes me feel slinky and sexy when I’m dancing. Truly something for all types of dancers!
