Mike is an amazing trainer. Took me under 1 on 1 when I was out of shape to make sure I'd understand how to properly lift, good form, etc. for a week or two and then I started coming to the regular class. The structure, schedule, and atmosphere is perfect. There are 2 morning classes and 1 evening class, 3 days a week so making it is always easy to plan for. It's never easy, but the class is always fun and super rewarding. Definitely recommend!

Mike is the best!
I’m totally new to working out and the gym, and honestly, I was kind of nervous at first. But Mike made everything so easy to understand. He walks you through every exercise/technique until you really get it.
His classes are fun, and I always leave feeling pumped and excited for the next one. If you’re looking for someone who knows their stuff and makes the gym feel less intimidating, Mike’s your guy. Highly, highly recommend!

What I appreciated most is Michael’s attention to detail when explaining the importance of learning the right form and movement during an exercise. He wasn’t interested in selling me his classes or personalized one-on-one session; just gave me good information and encouragement. He has remained helpful although he recommended a gym closer to my home. 10/10

They never give up on anyone who asks for help, always willing to work with you while pushing you past what you think you can handle. Can't recommend more highly.

It's been about 4 years since I've last worked out. Mike helped me get back into it and paced my workouts really well, as well as teaching me the correct form for each exercise. He also checks in after sessions to see how I'm feeling. Best trainer I've had!
Alison is also a great trainer because she pushes us to our limits and you can see the tandem between her and Mike whenever they're both doing sessions together.
The community is also great, and it's a very enriching environment. Every time I walk out of that door I feel like I actually did something good for myself. It's like a gift that keeps on giving.
Great place and even greater people!

I’ve worked with a number of personal trainers over the years. Hands down, Mike is the best. Great programming so the sessions are challenging yet doable (even deadlift days…haha).
Even more importantly, Mike’s got a fantastic personality. So it’s easy to be motivated to show up. Highly, highly recommended.

He may be "Hated" but Mike is my favorite trainer. I've been working out with him for over 10 years and he got me into the best shape of my life. He made my fifties my "fittys!" Yeah he pushes you but we also laugh a lot who could hate that? Just don't be late or you have to do burpees! UGH!

Michael Lopez is the best trainer I’ve ever had. Every day is a challenge but also a delight. Michael motivates with a great knowledge of form and function, but also a fantastic sense of humor. He makes working out fun. In the past, Michael helped me lose 40 pounds and get in the best shape of my life. He’s currently helping me shed my pandemic weight gain, and we’re having a ball. He even texts me the day after our workouts to check in and see how I’m feeling. Michael truly cares. If you’re willing to start exercising and create a healthy routine for yourself with Michael’s expert help, you absolutely won’t regret it. A+++

Love this place! I've been to a couple of other Cross Fit locations and this is by far the best! Michael is an amazing coach!! I love that he is in constant contact with all his clients by getting their feedback on the workouts and on how they feel! I have never seen a coach take this extra step..... so personalized! He, along with the other coaches, take their time in teaching and correcting your form as well as motivate you! If you want to reshape your body and fitness level, while having fun, this is the place for you! All the members are nice and friendly too :)

I've done Crossfit just once before and it HURT. All I wanted to do was improve my running through cross-training and I thought I might as well pick something that'll make me feel badass about it. So the first time... liked the training, not so much the hurting, and it hurt my running more than improve it. Then there's this STEEL BARBELLS two blocks from my house... i figure, let me try it again and this time I'm setting my own rules instead of someone else forcing me to do weights I'm not ready to do. Well, it turns out I didn't have to do that! Michael clearly has worked with beginners before and knew how to build up but push my limits at the same time. I found that I can still do gym time AND run an easy 3-5miler on the same day (if i have the time... which is another story) - i didn't need to sacrifice my training plan because I was sore from the gym. Going to the gym should be fun! The workouts are tailored to your level, even within a group class, and the members are a friendly bunch, really fun and encouraging to be around. But still... expect to work and sweat!
For newbies and experienced Crossfitters alike, I think it's safe to say you can't go wrong coming over to STEEL BARBELLS.

I'm just gonna paste my review from another site since it still applies:
This place is great!
I was hesitant about doing any Crossfit sort of workout since I've heard funky things about people hurting themselves and as much as I would love one of those fancy six-pack things, I didn't want it THAT bad. I prefer to break a sweat rather than a bone.
In fact, I didn't even start coming here for Crossfit. I first heard about Steel Barbells through friends of another place I was working out at. I was just meeting there to take a bus to do the Spartan Sprint last year. That's where I got a chance to meet all the great trainers and clients. What I found was not just a bunch of people that like to work out, but a community of people that also do stuff together outside of the gym. Since then we've partied at a lounge, gone wine tasting in Malibu, had a BBQ, and spent a day at the beach! Everyone at Steel Barbells is fun and welcoming and never tried to pressure me to join their gym despite me joining them at all these events. I had never before felt so welcome at a place I wasn't even a member of.
Eventually I was just too curious. So I decided to sign up for a class to check it out for myself.
That's when I found out it was Crossfit. I was still a bit hesitant, but I thought I would give it a try anyway. The trainers didn't just throw me into classes. They spent time coaching me, helping me get down my form, and get used to the exercises. Despite the fact that we were moving around weights, jumping, and running, the trainers made me feel safe and took away that fear I had of doing Crossfit.
I've now been doing it for about two months and I love it. It's a great workout, and there's a fun twist to it: competition. You're not just working to improve your best, but you're also racing other clients. Sometimes we get into teams and compete with each other. All of the competition is fun and not taken too seriously, so there's no fear of losing. We encourage each other to do better, and we're with them when they're struggling. And I've been on both sides of that. I've been the one that needs the help, and I've had the chance to help others. It makes the experience much stronger and more exciting rather than just doing a bunch of reps and watching the clock.
I highly recommend giving Steel Barbells a try.

If you are looking for a place to have fun and stay fit this is the place to be. This is not your regular GYM, they are a family and they have fun working out together! You have no idea how fun is all the classes and Mike Lopez aka "the most hated trainer"( you will love why) will make sure you will get a kicked ass workout. See you at the box!
