A great gym with lots of space to try out different routes. They reset the routes every couple of weeks so itβs hard to get bored! The gym equipment is well maintained, the bathrooms are clean, and the staff are all helpful and kind. There are fewer beginner routes, but itβs still a great place to introduce a friend to bouldering.

The gym and environment is pretty nice but the biggest gripe is that the kilter board and spray board haven't been adjustable for the past few months. Considering the price that they're charging, it really shouldn't take them so long to fix something so many climbers use in a CLIMBING gym. Just fix the things that people will climb and your rating will go up again.

Incredible gym. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable on climbing. Tons of different routes for different levels, and routes are reset intermittently to keep things fresh.
Thereβs a full gym setup and outdoor area to stretch, use bars, and walk a slack line. Been a wonderful addition to my daily routine, and super cool people to meet day to day as you climb.

Expensive now and not worth the price. Bouldering only. The setting is fair... It was better when they were PG. Their ratings are generally way off and there aren't that many routes for the size. Their free weights and cardio equipment are fine, but they're missing some machines I want, such as a seated row. Speaking of machines, their spray and kilter boards are constantly broken, so good luck training that way. The San Francisco location has also gone down hill.

It's an okay gym with newer amenities. Staff are super nice. Strangely a bit sparse for how large of a space it is. The density of problems seems like it could be way higher. You can do a lot with a small space and minimal holds and some creativity, but this gym feels like it's missing a massive opportunity. Feels like there could be more crammed in. Every other problem seems to have way more holds than needed until you get to harder grades. I presume it is to give options on easy climbs or for folks with different heights but it seems way overkill. I'd rather have a greater variety of problems. Grades are a bit all over the place, even considering how subjective grades are. Kilter board is stuck at a steep angle, can't be adjusted. They have a huge regular gym area that I haven't used much. There are other climbing gyms in the area that are much cheaper with better setting and better community experience. Doesn't seem worth it for the price.

Went there while traveling for work. Great venue with lot of space and quite diverse setting.
I especially liked the one start / several ends for problems with increasing difficulty, which provides diverse challenges with reduced wall cluttering.

I politely brought up the topic of the sauna being broken tio the manager Tiff and she was extremely rude and condescending towards me. All I asked for was a prorated credit towards my dues and she actually literally told me to cancel my membership if I'm "so upset."

Please read the reviews before thinking of attending! If you're looking to sign up and be part of a gym... READ the reviews....
Gym is in poor repair and management constantly lies to members. It took them a year to simply add an extra bench, all the time claiming it was "back ordered." Imagine that - only 3 benches for 12 racks. Sauna goes down because of poor circuitry / parts, they claim it's because members are pouring water on the coils. The lies go on and on.

It has now been over one month with the menβs sauna being broken. Given the price point of the gym (over $100 a month!), it is absolutely unacceptable. There is always, of course, an amazing excuse as to why. Itβs gotten to the point where Iβm starting to think theyβre just taking the members for a ride. Itβs either that or they really canβt manage keeping a sauna despite other businesses seeming to have been able to figure it out.
They keep on saying that theyβre not raising prices for this year, but given the fact that the gym doesnβt seem to be able to provide the amenities that they advertise and that we pay for, how can that be seen as a positive? At what point does it just become false advertising?

The corporate ownership / management of this place shines through. The gym is in poor repair. The sauna keeps repeatedly breaking down over and over again for a collective of months and somehow they haven't figured out how to 1.) prevent it from happening 2.) Having a plan in place for when it does. I'm tired of hearing "we're waiting for the part to arrive" or "we're waiting for the technician to have availability." The worst part is NO CREDITS OR CONCESSIONS FOR NOT HAVING ACCESS TO AN ADVERTISED AMENITY! I canceled my membership and am going to Sender.

I enjoy this gym space for what it is and have been a member for 2+ years. While I think the employees are all good honest people, the sauna is at least 50% of the reason Iβve maintained this membership. It has been almost an entire month of the mens sauna being down. There must have been at least 8 weeks this year (possibly
more) when the sauna hasnβt been functioning. Iβm not sure how management hasnβt learned from the other dozens of times it has gone down. If it is so hard to find a technician or a piece to fix it then you need to be better prepared. We DESERVE an account credit for this amenity we are constantly not having access to.

Visiting from out of town. Setting was good, albeit softer than my home gym by a decent amount (and my home gym is known for being soft in our area). Some climbs did feel like the route was planned for aesthetics first and body movement second though.
Sauna was broken which is a disappointment given how many other complaints there were when I looked at the google maps.
Worst of all though I saw someone in rental shoes, jeans, and shirtless and it made me want to vomit. I almost went blind. It seemed like more people there were interested in cosplaying as a climber than actually climbing.
2.5/5 stars. 5 for the gym normally, minus 0.5 for the broken sauna and minus 2 stars for the Gumby.

Gym is in very poor condition. Sauna doesn't work. Shower drains are clogged with hair and smell absolutely putrid. Shampoo and soap is always out. And all the woke stuff they push gets old quick. If the sauna isn't fixed in the next week or if it breaks down yet again after that I'm moving to Sender One.

Thereβs plenty of issues with this gym (route density, lack of cleaning) but this likely a function of corporate cost cutting and bad management rather than the employees as I know them all and they are great people.
The Sauna, the main reason many of us fork over $100 a month and suffer with the rest of the experience, is BROKEN more than it is working. No one gets a discount, nothing gets expedited to fix it. Be thankful when itβs working and enjoy the heat even though itβs filthy and never cleaned.
Weβre going on weeks of it being broken (just the most recent time in dozens).
Either replace the system or fork over the money to fix it for real. Iβve been a member at many gyms that cost much less that can manage basic cleaning and to keep it running.
We should get a discount for the inconvenience!

I used to love coming here but in recent months Iβm beyond frustrated by the sauna not working. Iβve been a member here for a while, and itβs disappointing to see the gym declining instead of improving. The men's sauna is constantly broken with no updates on when itβll be fixed, and the showers are often out of soap. Instead of addressing these issues, the gym just puts up post-it notes saying theyβre aware.
For the price weβre paying, we expect better maintenance and communication. Itβs a great gym in many ways, but these recurring issues are frustrating and need to be addressed.

Nice facility overall, but some notable drawbacks.
The climbs generally feel too soft, lacking creativity and challenge for intermediate climbers. I often find myself breaking the beta, or the climb feels inaccessible to most people. It seems like the setting is either too easy or too awkward, leaving little for those in the middle skill range. One major gripe is the finish holdsβwhy end the climb 3/4 up the wall? It feels anticlimactic.
That said, the kilter and tension boards are fun additions, but they tend to be monopolized by the same clique, making it difficult to join in when there are several people waiting.
The sauna and towel service are standout amenities, though you occasionally encounter odd behaviorβlike someone vaping in the sauna once. Still, most people here are pretty chill and friendly.
If you're looking to prep for outdoor climbing, Iβd recommend Rockreation, Sender One, or Aesthetic Climbing Gym instead. This gym seems to cater more to those aiming for competition climbing. Just my two cents!

This gym chain has a horrible membership freeze policy that canβt be used unless you are freezing the entire month and submitted 5 days before the next month. Their corporate team doesnβt care about the members as they took 2 weeks to get back to me about my freeze that I submitted 4 days before the end of the month. Charged my card sent an email saying weβll freeze your account but weβre going to charge you for the month and any remaining amounts are non-refundable. Because of this I decided to cancel my membership which they still go back to a non-refundable credit. That email took another 10 days before I received it. The staff here at this location is friendly and the gym is nice, but I would not recommend going to this gym chain because their corporate office doesnβt understand what customer service is about.

I have climbed at all the gyms in the area (touchstone, rockreaction, hangar, ect..). But, Movement is definitely the most premier bouldering gym in the area. There is a lot to say about this gym.
The climbs: The quality of the routes is consistently high. From delicate dance like balance problems on slab, powerful overhangs, outdoor-esque crimp-fests, and so much more. There's a diverse range of climbing styles that cater to climbers of all skill levels. At some gyms I find you can power your way through too many climbs, but here I feel my technique and route-reading is constantly challenged. Sometimes there's really interesting comp style stuff too which isn't my particular favorite style, but fun nonetheless.
Grading: I would say Movement is stiffer than aforementioned gyms, about 1-1.5 grades stiffer (on A V scale rating). For reference at touchstone I could consistently climb V5-V6 in one to two sessions, here V4-V5 requires several sessions of projecting and work, work, work. I was a little discouraged at first, but in the end I feel this gym has made me a stronger climber.
Training: The gym is massive. Six full squat racks, weights, machines. Good climbing training areas with multiple hangboards, pulleys, and training boards (kilter + tension baord 1). Outdoor area is nice and spacious also. I really prefer having a climbing gym that also has such a big non climbing section because when I feel too burnt out at climbing I have a nice space to keep my body moving.
Semi-cons: Climbing density could be bigger, but it is nice to sometimes have more space between climbs
Cons: Membership is expensive$$$, but worth it if you come often. Daypass + rentals is expensive for friends $$$ if you don't have guest passes.

Every once in a while, I tend to go to a different climbing gym than my usual one, and Movement has been one of my monthly add-on gyms. It's one of the best places to go in the area if you're into climbing and can afford the price. It is on the pricer side, but you can instantly see why the moment you walk in. The climbing section is huge! However; they only offer bouldering, so if you're a top roper or lead climber, they dont offer it at this location. There are several different climbing walls, and they all scale up a fairly high distance, too, so nothing feels too cluttered. Movement uses a phone app, Kaya, to help you figure out climbs if you're solo climbing, but it isn't required, and you're able to climb what you want. The gym offers yoga and climbing classes. Movement is also split with a regular gym that offers free weights, barbell training, plenty of bars for pull-ups, a stretching location, and tons of cardio machines. The staff is extremely nice too, always willing to help while staying professional. The bathrooms are always clean and offer lockers, showers, and even a sauna. If you're looking to get fit or to change up your usual climbing gym, I recommend coming to Movement. They offer many discounts, so check back every once in a while.
Updated April 5th: This place is still good. Workers are super nice and helpful. Clean environment and community have gotten larger. This place gets super packed for the first Friday of the month now, haha, mainly because of the BOGO deal. It's still a cool place to go to and climb.

Excellent service! I'm used to the touchstone gyms in the bay area, and came here to climb while I was away. I decided to bring my siblings for their first time and the staff helped us through the orientation and rental process. My siblings had a blast, and the facility was gorgeous. When i move back down I'm definitely choosing movement as my home gym π great for all athletes, climbers weight lifters, yoga enthusiasts, calisthenic manics and all! Heads up: setting feels sandbag if you're used to dynamic or flowy moves, the gym style is slow and static.
Update: came here on the punch card deal and brought two groups of friends, had an absolute blast! Kuddos to the staff for being so attentive, and for taking care of me and my friends/family, no doubt one of the best gyms in OC!

I have fond memories of this place. My buddy used to take me here with his guest passes, and, let me tell you, I re-arranged my life to never miss a day. Even when I injured myself in the gym, I figured out how to acute rehab quick so I could at least partially get on the wall. Then, afterwards, we'd chill in the sauna. I guess the sauna's my only mild complaint, and I honestly don't see much of how staff or management could fix it: people are noisy. I really love a quiet, contemplative sauna, but, despite the rules telling you in polite words to keep your trap shut, people like to gab on. Like they just can't endure a moment's quiet and need to distract themselves from themselves with some speaking. I can see why that would make a sauna attractive I guess, but it detracted from my enjoyment.
But I digress, and perhaps I do so hypocritically. Anyhow: this place is good; I like it. The first Friday of the month is free if you're going with a member. So try to find a member to be friends with I guess?

Bummed to have spent the insane price of almost $30 on a day pass only to find out a huge portion of the gym was all comp routes, another massive portion was closed and being set (was closed the full 6 hours I was there) and the rest was set to about 20% density (see pic) with almost no routes up. Thatβs something that shouldβve been mentioned when I asked for the day pass, as I wouldβve declined and gone somewhere else for this session. The facility and staff are good, but Iβve seen homewalls with more problems than this gym had to offer the day I was there.

Great gym! Climbing walls have a good range of angles, and most are full height. Pads nice and soft.
Routesetting style is more classic as opposed to comp style (i.e. not many dual tex holds, if that is your thing). Generally good outside of v3s which could be improved upon.
Gym area is nice and spacious with new equipment.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. I signed up for the tour and then the intro to bouldering class. If you sign up for both and decide to become a member, the initiation fee gets waived, which was a super cool surprise for me. I've taken yoga a few times, used the outdoor workout area and fitness machines, as well as bouldered. I'm really enjoying my time here so far! Looking forward to HIIT and total body fit classes, the saunas and trying out the slack line. I love the outdoor space bc it's nice to exercise outdoors with the sunlight & "fresh" air. They're community-oriented and I can't wait to their next Queer night. It's my first time bouldering ever so I can't speak to the authenticity or rate their routesetting abilities. Again, everyone seems to be nice and respectful for the most part. Always use caution & spatial awareness when climbing & descending.

This is a climberβs review of a climbing gym. If youβre a beginner or a weekend warrior, youβll probably have a good time, so just ignore this review. This isnβt about their plentiful amenities, well-kept and clean gym, or friendly staff (all true btw), itβs about the climbing.
Let me preface this by mentioning that Iβm just vacationing here. In my limited scope, I have found that American gyms are quite soft in general. Movement is no exception, and stands about middle of the pack in this regard. There are softer gyms (Sender One immediately comes to mind), but Iβve also been to stiffer gyms during my time here. It makes sense, as this is a commercial gym, not necessarily a tryhard climberβs gym. They want to create this illusion and make people feel like theyβre progressing fast.
Unfortunately, this has created a massive gap in skills required to progress, with the first one appearing between V3 and V4. V3s here are typically jug-fests β a complete disrespect to the grade. Whereas V4s are calibrated closer to what youβd find in stiffer gyms. This reinforces my earlier point that this is a commercial gym designed to boost a beginnerβs ego (easy flashes until V4). However, for beginners who actually stick around and try to take climbing seriously for the first time, they will find this sudden jump in difficulty quite a jarring experience as it doesnβt foster incremental progression.
My next gripe involves these weird extension problems with a tiered grading system. For example, a V6 problem will have a V6 finish and a V7 finish. The holds and movements to the V7 finish arenβt much different from what preceded them during the V6 portion, just more of the same. I wouldnβt call this lazy setting necessarily, but the grade of a problem shouldnβt be a function of length, but rather the difficulty of the crux.
This next one doesnβt affect me, but Iβve seen it impact shorter climbers. I find that many problems are height-gated (either start or crux) with no intuitive ways around them. For a business that promotes inclusivity, this is an ironic oversight. Maybe Iβm just spoiled as we have national and international comp setters back home, but it is possible to have good problems for a range of heights simultaneously. I hope this is something Movement routesetters can work and improve on.
This last one doesnβt affect me either, as Iβm just a visitor, but members have told me that the walls here reset quite often (a new section 2-3x a week). As someone used to a minimum 8 week rotation, this is foreign to me. How do you encourage members to project hard boulders?
I donβt want this come off too much as a rant. This comes from a place of wanting Movement to grow, as I would like to come back and visit when Iβm in the area again.

Good gym. Not a good climbing gym. If you don't climb, there is a BOGO sale for the first friday of every month. Lots of seating areas and a kid friendly traverse wall. Cool snacks and great customer service.
TLDR: expensive yet outrageously mid
Some cons:
- Very competition climbing orientated
- They tend to grade climbs soft, especially if it's crimpy.
- It is unclear which holds you're supposed to start on because the tag "floats" instead of "touches" the starting hold. I'm assuming it's the one closest to the tag, but it's so easily open to dispute and confusing sometimes.
- They physically imprint "FINISH" on finish holds. A little weird because this means that those holds can't be used for anything else, and the ending is always going to be the same few holds. It also means that you can't finish routes by touching the top of the wall. Not a big deal but I can see how it gets boring if you climb here a lot.
- 1/3 of the gym is designated for conventional gym equipment. For a huge climbing gym I personally think that this is kinda dumb. They definitely have the space, height, and budget for roped climbing for $88 a month, and choose amenities that you can get at any gym instead.
- The only gym in southern California that doesn't offer a single crack climb
- Definitely not thorough enough with new climbers on safety etiquitte because a lot of people will just stand right below someone climbing for no reason and kids just run wild on the pads

Great place to climb and meet friends. This gym is super beginner friendly and has a lot of great starter routes if you want to get bouldering. The gym has a really nice gym, slackline area, bouldering and yoga classes.

Absolutely amazing gym! The bouldering is spectacular, always something new to challenge me. The fitness area is spacious and has every piece of equipment I would need. Only thing to make this gym even better would be a 6am start time, to allow for a pre-work workout! Thanks to everyone who keeps this gym going!

Iβm sure the climbing gym is wonderful and the walls look great but the customer service was terrible.
I bought a Groupon for a week membership to try out movement gyms and went to the Santa Clara location while on holiday break, and was hoping to check out the fountain valley location but was told my Groupon was valid only at one gym, something that was not mentioned or specified anywhere in the terms and conditions nor in the Groupon.
I was not offered a discounted price or anything and was told I could pay for a day pass which costs more than the Groupon.
Recommend sender one climbing in Santa Ana who has always had amazing customer service

I like planet granite a lot. Really good routesetting, cool sauna, and great gym facility. The only reason why I stopped going is because I need a gym with rope climbing. Paying almost sender's price for a facility that doesn't have any ropes just doesn't work for me. That said, definitely choose this place if you're more of a boulderer and care about having really good gym equipment.

Great facility, horrible staff. Rosie was a nightmare, hostile vibes the second I stepped foot in because my mask was not fully on. First thing I said to her was "hey, my bad its my first time here and i'm excited to climb!" Her response was about their mask policy...thats it..nothing about 'welcome to the gym, great to have you, just a harsh look in the eyes with a frown.... When I was climbing she offered me refund if I would leave because I took it down to take a breath. Not even 24hr fitness is this narly... She was more excited to tell me about her mask policy than about having a good time climbing....

Itβs one of the newest and shiniest climbing gyms in Orange County with tons of square footage and state of the art equipment. Climbing and working out here is such a peaceful experience. If I lived closer to the area, this would hands down be the gym to join.

$25 all day pass with climbing shoe rental so you can climb to your heart's content! The shower in the locker room is great. Took a few tries to learn about the lock on the locker room. They have water bottle filling station so bring your reusable!! My only wish is that I took photos.

This gym is amazing, I have been to the factory, sendorOne, and Rock City. This gym is by far my favorite, the routes are difficult and this gym offers a very high learning curve. They're are saunas, showers in the bathroom, yoga, a full gym with classes.
The prices are extremely fair 80 for students, 90 for non - if you do the month to month. You get 6 guest passes a year, you can use up to 2 a month and on Fridays guests can come after 5pm with no hit on your passes.

Really great bouldering gym. Facilities are excellent. Most of the staff are as well, but they've got some of the old Sender One staff over here. If you're familiar with the culture at Sender One, they're less than professional. Get used to being harassed with passive aggressiveness. Best to avoid them if they're also climbing, or if they cause you problems, report them to someone in management. Unbelievable.

I'm a new climber and was convinced by a friend to check this place out. I usually go early in the morning and stay until close to lunch time. This place is HUGE, clean, and peaceful. The staff is friendly and so are the other climbers I have interacted with.
I'm not sure what the other reviewer was complaining about temperature...but the several times I have been there it seemed to be cool and had adequate airflow, ensuring it wasn't stuffy or smelled.
I definitely will most likely sign up for another month!

This is my new favorite gym. Sets are awesome. Facilities are awesome. I used the sauna after climbing and took a shower after that. It made me feel so much more recovered so much faster. I went in the morning so it was very cool temp for me. Since they open at 6am and my schedule is changing soon, it will fit perfectly into my new routine. I am definitely getting a membership. Staff is friendly. I cant say enough good things.

Wonderful facilities! Really great walls and setters.
3/5 stars though because it's so hot. Challenging to work out hard while pouring sweat unnecessarily. It's a gym - much easier to get a good workout in when the temp is below 70 than when it is above 80. PG Portland is freezing cold - which is great! You can wear a beanie and sweatshirt and take layers off as you warm up. PG FV is hot, stuffy, and uncomfortable. The facilities are very nice, just plan on going outside to cool down.
