Pretty large gym with lots of rope climbing options, a fine amount of bouldering, and some gym equipment. The route setting is pretty good, but there are quite a few warn down and greasy holds. Overall a busy but worthwhile climbing gym if this is the closest gym option for you.

Beautiful location, though a bit out of the way for most SF residents. Sadly, while the price has increased noticably over the last few years, what you actually get for your membership has decreased. The mats are wonky in many places. The setting is extremely basic and boring now, and the kilter board has numerous broken lights. There aren't very many free weights, but they do try to pack a reasonable number of cardio machines into the space. One bright spot is the rowing machines, which seem like the fly wheel or fans must've been replaced. Either that or they just do a much much better job keeping them clean than other gyms.

I was thinking pricey, but it’s really no more expensive than any other climbing gym. Movement has everything, big walls, bouldering, weights, yoga, tension boards, you name it, they got it. The view of the bay from the windows is incredible, like breathtakingly gorgeous.
Personal opinion: I wasn’t super stoked on some of the routes I did, some were super fun, but not many routes in my style and some holds were a bit old and polished, but to be fair, that’s me trying to be critical. Sweet gym, not my vibe, but I recognize a beautiful gym when I see one.

The reason to come here is for Sergey! He’s incredibly knowledgeable, welcoming, and always goes the extra mile to help everyone feel confident and supported—whether you’re brand new or a seasoned climber. Sergey has such great energy and is genuinely passionate about the community here. If you get the chance to interact with him, you’re in for a treat! This gym is lucky to have him. Highly recommend!

tldr; convenient location, routes aren't as fun as other gyms
I'm a newbie to bouldering, but have visited quite a few gyms around the Bay. The location is convenient, and the routes are challenging. However, I find routes at other gyms to be more fun, while still being challenging. The routes here seem to punish people with longer limbs, when compared to other gyms.

With views looking out to the Golden Gate Bridge, the beach, AND the city skyline, how could you not love this gym?!
The Presidio warehouse aesthetic gives it a truly unique vibe.
Great route setting, clean workout areas, and a cozy little co-working spot on the second floor.
Sergey has some great closing announcements 👌🏼

Amazing location. Not a great gym unfortunately. Gym machines are worn down or broken. The place is just aging bad and it's obvious they don't care lol. Bouldering routes don't get refreshed enough. I do like the setting a lot though, so props to the setters 🙏. The routes are sick. No climate control. Bad Hours. Bad music. Overall I would give it a 3.5/5.
After my sub ends I'm going back to bouldering project SEA or SLC. Those are world class facilities. This gym is for suckers that don't know better.

Bad gym. Super limited, greasy old bouldering. Routes haven’t been changed in months. They don’t offer an early day pass rate. Go to Touchstone. Climbing has been corporatized for years now, but don’t pay extra for a weaker experience.

I switched to this gym from Touchstone because it’s closer to me. I enjoy the location and the quality of the route setting, but it often feels overcrowded, especially around 5-6 PM when it seems there’s a dozen youth teams present. Touchstone had its own crowding issues, but I didn’t have to deal with a bunch of kids running around, which made the environment feel more controlled and safe. Hoping the movement team will address this.

Great location, friendly staff, good equipment but during the evenings the bouldering area is OVERRUN with kids from the climbing "teams" running around, screaming and jumping in front of you to hop on a climb. The gym must teach these kids better bouldering etiquette and these youth team nights only twice a week. It is a horrible and frustrating experience every time I go.

I pay an absurd amount of money for you to close the bouldering area for multiple consecutive days. For people that o ly get to come in once or twice a week. This sucks. I'm going to switch to touchstone.
Update: it's 10 days after they first shut down bouldering walls, and they still don't have them all opened back up. Canceled membership.
Update 2: one week post competition. There are still 2 walls that remain unset. Can't believe people pay $110 a month for blank walls.

Beware of hidden fees. They don’t care about you and don’t tell you all the costs up front.
It won’t let me reply; so I’ll state it here.
1. I wrote this review before you called me.
2. I was told I can cancel anytime in the 1st month which is not true; I have to cancel before the 25th.
This is deceptive in my book because you are happy to pro-rate upon entry but not on exit and you leave the onus on the customer to read the fine print on your website.

The route setting is really impressive, and there are lots of areas for bouldering and top roping. The bouldering holds are quite neglected and slippery, but well-set. The top rope holds seem to be in much better condition. Overall, this gym is really quite good, but needs to replace their bouldering holds and kilterboard lights

I started climbing here last July and from day one the staff and other climbers have been the best. The route setting is amazing and always fun no matter the grade. The location is great and they make great use of the building (got to love the old airplane maintenance facility aesthetic with the crane hook, swinging chair, and the exposed concrete). I’d say pricing is the only bad thing but it’s not unreasonable for the area and you get what you pay for. Honestly a bit sad to go off to college so I won’t be able to come here unless on break.
And if you visit make sure to use the sauna. So nice after a climb sesh

Recently toured the gym and participated in the Intro to Rope Climbing Class with my partner who is new to the sport. Hannah was a great instructor. We both felt very welcomed and enjoyed the atmosphere. The gym is located in an awesome location in the Presidio with great views of the bridge, city, and bay. They had a good variety of top rope, lead climbing, and bouldering and some cool features on the walls. There is also a gym area which looked well stocked.

Great gym in a beautiful location. Pricey memberships (pro tip: check Groupon for deals if you’re not sure about committing yet), but I think they’re on par with other gyms in the area. I’m only a beginner so I can’t speak too much on difficulty or how it compares to other gyms. But tons of selection for both bouldering and rope climbing, and routes are changed out very regularly. Sauna is a nice bonus. Weightlifting area is pretty robust as well considering this is a climbing gym foremost. Only complaint I can think of: I feel the weightlifting machines and equipment aren’t cleaned often/thoroughly enough.

Bouldering: Routesetting is far worse than Touchstone or Benchmark gyms. Difficulty past v3 created with either crimpy holds or risky dynos. Tall climbers should probably avoid, seems like many of the routes are set for kids comp teams. Routes take 3-4 months to cycle out and reset, which is wild for a small gym. Walls and holds themselves are universally worn and greasy.
Workout area gets impossibly crowded outside of working hours, equipment is barely ever cleaned. Walked away with sticky hands from using the barbell last week.

Also weniger jump&run / parkour-style probleme und mehr old school.

They recently changed their grading system for top roping, extremely confusing and inconsistent. No flow to their routes (except for the one corner of slabs). Worse of all, the ropes are all stiff and impossible to belay, which is beyond dangerous. Will not be back here for a long while.

This is my favorite climbing gym in the Bay Area. The location is great and when you're not climbing you can look out over the city and bay. I do wish they had some autobelays so you can climb solo. The gym and cardio equipment are well laid out and the facilities are clean.
The routes (the most important thing at any gym) are very good. There are a bunch of very challenging routes and if you are a beginner/intermediate climber they have a ton on offer. I never get bored trying all the different routes on offer. Also, they put up new routes all the time.
The only real negative for this gym is that the parking is difficult to get during busy times and costs money to park, which depending on how often/how long you go can easily double the price of a membership.

Great gym. Things I especially like
* cracks
* decent selection of lead routes
* top out boulder
* really nice hangboard setup, with bolts for subtracting weights
* campus board
* adjustable kilter board
If there was one thing I had to pick to improve, it would be a vertical-angled spray wall to warm up and ARC on, though there's usually a steeper spray wall (good) and theres a weird see through wall of all jugs on the other side of the gym (I think for kids?). But it's a small nitpick.

Super fun gym to join or try out - the building is incredible, they’re always changing the routes, and have a great gym setup.
Like the other Presidio buildings, it’s an old warehouse with huge ceilings, multiple levels, continuous windows that look out on the bay and the bridge and give the building a very airy feeling.
I’ve been a member for 2 months and they’ve changed every bouldering route in that time. There’s so many you won’t get bored.
I like platform lifting and free weights, and their gym setup is perfect for that: racks, dumbbells, barbells, and space.
First visit is free I believe!

Beautiful location but poor facilities maintenance and infrequent route setting.
It's hard to beat this incredible location, with great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco. This beauty is unfortunately paired with very poor maintenance at the facilities. Much of the hardware is broken or needs fixing (examples include exercise bikes with broken seats/water bottle holders/missing or splitting foot straps). When told about these problems, staff seems to already know about them and don't have an ETA for fixes.
Route setting has also slowed significantly. Both bouldering and top rope routes seem to stay for close to 2-months now.
The most frustrating aspect of these is that monthly rates have been raised to address these issues, without the issues actually being fixed.

Top rope routes are very creative with interesting beta, there's a high concentration of 5.10a to 5.11d routes in this gym, so as an intermediate you'll never get bored. They have lots of hard routes too, but not a lot of dedicated lead routes. There are several cracks, one of which is actually adjustable. Bouldering is good, but the beginner routes start are harder than other gyms. Santa Clara has more beginner options, while this gym has a wide and even range of problems. Overall the routesetters at this gym are A+ on quality. They have nearly every training board that exists, the bluetooth bouldering wall, full weight training gym with treadmills and everything. Facilities are fantastic as this is an old factory building on the edge of Crissy Field, and from the walls you can literally look out at the bay and the SF skyline. They had the windows open and there was a gentle sea breeze coming in along with tons of natural light. This gym well exceeded all expectations, A+ 10/10 bravo folks.

I started climbing 45 days ago after a 2 weeks trial period. The first step was to take a belay class (free), then the belay test (free too) and then I was able to come either by myself (some people that are also coming by themselves, can partner up and belay with you), or with my partner to top rope or boulder. I feel that the quality and diversity of the routes make it possible and enjoyable to come every day.
The place is rarely packed but I recommend to get there before 8AM or after 7PM.
They use gri-gri instead of belay devices (compared to Touchstone) so it feels very safe.
Some really good climbers come here so you can watch, learn from them and progress.
Staff is great, and very helpful.

It's the best gym in the city. I've been a member for 2 years and love the place. I mostly top rope but also take some yoga classes

Great gym and what a view! I don't get up to the PG SF as much as I should with traffic in the bay but that's not the gym's fault and I really should head there more.
They've got some great routes and lots of high walls, a large bouldering area and a decent fitness space with cardio spread all over. Throw in having a shower in the city, steps from a view of the bridge (I've watched the blue angel's zip by mid route years back) and how could you go wrong. When the window / doors get opened up and the breeze comes in, perfect.
Parking can be a bit of a pain, it's not cheap and the place is not near a whole lot else for a snack or driving around but that's the price you pay for a solid gym in such a great spot.

Good Bouldering, top rope, lead, selection that gets replaced regularly and a few crack climbing sets. Molly is an amazing Yoga teacher try to catch her at noon on a Friday if you get a chance. Traditional gym side has 4 squat racks, good mix of free weights and machines, equipment for WODs.

Staff was really friendly and helpful. We checked in and were given equipment fairly quickly. There was a good variety of course challenge levels. There’s also a GREAT view of Chrissy Field and the bridge. Can’t wait to go back!

Super fun wall, no fuss belay certification process, and an excellent bouldering area. Also there’s a gym? why, I don’t know, but i guess you can come here to work out off the wall if that’s your thing. You could probably find a better less expensive gym for pump metal, but as far as the wall goes, it’s a world class choice, at reasonable prices.

Been a member for eight years and truly appreciate this gym. Great routes, friendly staff, and yoga is excellent. The most fun you can have exercising indoors is climbing here.

Great climbing and a decent gym. The locker rooms and bathrooms could be better, but they have really cool routes and some really cool bouldering options. Also they have a parking lot and great views of the bay from the middle of the walls!
I do recommend to go try this place out...

One of the best gyms I've been to in the state. The setters are extremely talented, and the variety on the walls will keep you coming back. They just replaced all the pads under the bouldering area, the place is always clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Awesome place! Bunch of routes that are renewed every week. You’ll never get bored! It is usually not to busy, especially on weekdays. Stuff is very friendly and helpful. You can rent any equipment you need for climbing here. Parking is usually not a problem although it’s not free. However it’s easy to find a free parking spot if you don’t mind a little walk.

Not as crowded as Mission Cliffs and the route setting is better. Occasionally overrun with kids on the weekend but otherwise is a great place to climb.

I've been here multiple times, and each visit I'm greeted with fantastic staff and a great variety of climbs. Fairly crowded on weekends, however during most of the week it is minimally packed. If you are stopping by to view the Golden Gate bridge or any other close by attractions, this place is a great addition to your trip!

Who needs Tinder when you can just go to Planet Granite? It's not a total meat market, but it is a great place to meet other like minded people. The front desk is great about finding you a belaying partner if you're climbing solo. The culture and community rock! Located on the water next to the Golden Gate bridge you get some pretty fantastic views of Alcatraz and the bay when climbing. Gym is in an old airplane hanger leftover from back when the SF airport was on the Marina Greens. On warm days they open up the hanger doors so you can smell the sea water and feel the breeze. The problems are creative and well organized. They usually match the stones to be the same color for a problem vs. other rock climbing gyms mixing up the color combos and notating with the same colored tape. Drop in rates are a little expensive (~$22 more with gear rentals) If you live in SF consider a monthly membership. The monthly member prices are about as cheap as it gets when it comes to gym memberships for this part of town.
