Awesome gym. I go every time I visit my family in Oceanside. Great Hyrox and CrossFit type classes. The owners are really great. They hosted a hyrox simulation race Friday and it was a blast. Very well organized.

I recently participated in the Spartan Obstacle Specialist course with Coach Mike and I can not recommend it enough!

I have been racing Spartan Races for years and let me tell ya even as a vet you can still always learn something new to advance your races!

Coach Mike was very welcoming and used different techniques to guide all the participants thru the course.

Whether you’ve ran 1 Spartan, 10 Spartans or have never been in the start coral before, this is the course for you!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. MROC Training in Oceanside is one of the most impressive, supportive, and high-quality fitness facilities I’ve ever visited — and I’ve trained at many gyms across Southern California.

I participated in their HYROX Simulation event, and the experience was nothing short of phenomenal. From the moment I walked in, the staff, coaches, and volunteers created an environment that was welcoming, motivating, and incredibly well-organized. They put so much care into planning the simulation, running each station smoothly, and making sure every athlete felt supported and challenged.

The volunteers deserve special recognition — these amazing individuals gave up part of their holiday to cheer us on, help run stations, and keep the flow efficient. You could feel the passion and community the moment you stepped inside. Their energy, attention to detail, and positive attitudes made a huge difference.

As someone who trains for running, triathlon, HYROX, and obstacle-course racing, I can confidently say:
➡️ MROC is built differently.
➡️ This is the place for anyone serious about functional fitness or OCR.

The facility is spacious, clean, and designed with purpose — sled lanes, rigs, carries, walls, grip tools, cardio equipment, turf areas, and so much more. It is truly one of the best-equipped training centers for professional obstacle course preparation, HYROX-style workouts, and high-intensity hybrid training.

I live in Orange County, and even though it’s a drive, this gym genuinely feels like a second family. The coaching style, community atmosphere, and supportive culture remind me why places like this are so rare. I will absolutely be returning for drop-ins whenever I am in the area — and possibly even weekly — because the value of this environment is unmatched.

For anyone considering:
✔️ HYROX training
✔️ Obstacle course racing
✔️ Spartan or OCR certifications
✔️ Functional fitness
✔️ Community-driven workouts
✔️ Simulation events to test yourself

MROC Training is THE place to be. Their professionalism, expertise, and passion for helping athletes grow is next-level.

I highly recommend this facility to athletes of all levels — whether you're a beginner wanting to try something new or a competitive hybrid athlete looking to level up.

Thank you again to the entire MROC team for hosting such an impactful event. You’ve earned a loyal supporter, and I can’t wait to come back.

Happy holidays — and thank you for making this c

Updated review

I’ve now been here for three years and I couldn’t be happier. Love the people like family. We love and support each other. Can’t go to another gym. People ask me… why don’t you find a gym closer?? I say…. They are not MROC!

One year ago I started at MROC as a newbie because we had a crazy idea to do a Spartan race. I knew nothing about it so I researched gyms that help with obstacles. Called and spoke with Mike who was great and convinced me to come in on a Saturday to check it out. So we come. And it was benchmark week. Challenge.... to do 4 rounds plus a buy-in and a buy-out within the time limit. It was crazy nuts and hard. Last year couldn’t do the simplest things and I didn’t even “complete” 2 rounds. Now fast forward to exactly one year later. Benchmarks today. Finished 4 rounds! With obstacles! Wow, I’m so proud of the journey this gym has taken me. Thank you Mike Confer for calling me back and being so awesome that I drove all the way to Oceanside to “try out” a gym. Didn’t realize it was going to become a second home. Thank you coach Tiffany Palmer for your support, your coaching and inspiration. Coach Brandon Sandberg for showing me different techniques, celebrating me and cheering me on!

Success is a series of falls in which you keep getting up, not giving up and continue the task until you achieve the goal. MROC has made that possible!

Update from 2025: Still a member and am loving this gym. Best place to work out, get strong, reach your goals, and make life-time friends!

This review is looong over due! I’ve been a member of MROC for over a year now. I joined MROC after my friend Julia and I completed the Spartan Monterey Super in 2018. I realized as I was slowly crawling up those hills, attempting obstacles and falling off, doing my burpees, that I needed some help and guidance to prepare for the next race, the beast, which was 4 months away!

When I joined MROC, I was super shy, and nervous because I expected I would be doing group classes with athletes who were already in shape, fast, etc. I was pleasantly surprised that people of all ages and abilities were part of MROC. I became part of a community of athletes who exude positivity, support, and are fun to work out with! The coaches are amazing, highly-qualified, highly-skilled, motivating and full of energy! They want everyone who steps foot into MROC to succeed, to meet their goals, and push themselves mentally and physically. The work outs are never boring, they’re fun and definitely challenge you to improve. The coaches incorporate strength training, cardio, HIIT, with obstacles built into the work out. Mike and Krista have built a one of a kind gym for people of all different fitness abilities to improve their skills, get the best OCR work outs, as well as valuable information on nutrition!

Since joining MROC, I’ve lost weight, gotten stronger, lifted heavy weights I never thought I could, my endurance has improved, and I’m able to tackle obstacles and successfully overcome them, on the course and in life. I’m so grateful to be part of MROC, surrounded by supportive athletes, and amazing coaches.

I had signed up for my first Spartan race in October 2021 at the suggestion of a friend. Not knowing anything about Spartan races, I started looking into them. I found out that it included a lot of obstacles that I had no idea how to tackle them. I researched gyms that had obstacle training and found MROC. I called and spoke with Mike. We had a long conversation which included us coming in on a Saturday to check it out. Found out that the coaches and most of the members participated in Spartan races and that added a sense of confidence. We came on a Saturday and took the class. It kicked our butt, it was a combination of running, carrying sand bags, slosh pipes, going over walls and obstacles and other stuff within a 35 minutes! IT WAS AWESOME!!! I realized this is exactly what I needed to prepare for the Second hardest Spartan race I had signed up for. Right after class we became members. Even though my commute would be 30 minutes!

I thought I had joined a gym to prepare for the race, but what I got was a whole lot more! The coaches are podium earning medal winners at Spartan races…. And the most kindest, encouraging, supportive people! They took me and turned me from an overweight, 50 year old to a 2 time (3rd in July) Spartan racer! The members have become special close friends that help, support and encourage you in and out of the gym. Mike is the owner and I’m so grateful that we spoke that day and encouraged me to come try it out. I’m an MROC member for life. No other gym compares because the coaches and the members are unique to MROC. We share accomplishments, defeats, obstacles and help each other finish the races. With or without tears! (Mine)

I can't say enough good things about this gym and the people who run it! As someone who has severe social anxiety, everyone at MROC really makes you feel like a part of their crew from the minute you step foot here. I'd 1000% recommend this gym for anyone who wants to get in shape, learn new techniques for weight lifting, preparing for marathons, or simply just wanting to exercise but have fun doing it. Thank you all for everything you've taught me! I'll for sure be coming back! :)

If you're military-bound—whether you're prepping for boot camp or Officer Candidate School (OCS)—MROC is hands down the place to train. I started my journey back in September 2024, dedicating 5-6 days a week to getting into top shape. Fast forward to March 2025, when I arrived at Navy OCS and realized just how much MROC had prepared me for the grueling challenges ahead.
At OCS, my class started with 138 candidates, but by the end of our training, only 95 of the original class remained. Many washed out, unable to keep up with the intensity. Meanwhile, I was thriving—constantly at the top of my class and often called on to race against the best, including SPECWAR candidates. More often than not, I came out on top. In fact, many of the workouts we did at OCS felt like a walk in the park compared to the ones I’d done at MROC.
By the end of OCS, I was awarded the coveted Silver Tape for finishing in the top 10% for Physical Training. I earned a near-max score on my PRT, with 130 push-ups and a 1.5-mile run time of 8:38.
If you’re serious about getting into the best shape of your life for military training, MROC is the place to be. The intensity, the community, and the results are unmatched. This gym will set you up to succeed—both in boot camp and beyond.

7/15/25 I’ve been here for a year now and what a life changing experience this gym has been for me! From the Multiple races I’ve conquered, to lifelong friends I feel I’ve made, to so many goals crushed. I’m in the best shape of my life getting stranger and faster every day! The coaches are amazing and knowledgeable the facility is clean and the community of inspiring individuals that I go to the gym with I couldn’t ask for a better experience! if your looking for a gym to help you crush goals and get into the best shape of your life and motivate you to be the best version of yourself this is the place!!!

8/15/24. By far the best experience I’ve had going to a gym. the coaches treat everyone like family, they are knowledgeable and willing to scale a workout to your ability while still pushing you past your limits. The gym itself is one of the coolest gyms with built in obstacle’s used for spartan race training. And the members are some of the most enthusiastic and fun people to workout with it’s like one big happy family.

The run clinic was superb. Coach Mike does an excellent job breaking down the form as it relates to the body’s anatomy and natural movement. He puts the focus on skill instead of speed and distance, both of which will naturally follow and can be done better once the form and skill have been mastered. I highly recommend 10/10. Thank you for the knowledge.

A couple of months ago, my boyfriend and I decided to try out this gym—your first class is free! He signed up right away and absolutely loves it. Seeing how excited he gets to go to class every day makes me so happy.

I’m a little on the shy side, so it took me a bit longer to join him, but I’m so glad I did. The community here is truly one of a kind! The coaches are incredibly friendly and helpful—they always take the time to explain things clearly and offer modifications for every skill level or injury.

It’s also just a super fun way to get moving. If you’re feeling stuck or need a little extra motivation, this place could be exactly what you’re looking for. We love MROC!

MROC definitely deserves five stars. While other gyms fall short, MROC stands out for a few reasons. The athletes here train super hard, and that pushes me to work harder and improve every day. I’ve seen big improvements in my strength, speed, and conditioning since I joined.
The best part about MROC is the community. It’s a great place to meet new people and make lasting friendships. The supportive environment makes training feel easier, even on tough days. On top of that, MROC throws fun events every month, which keep things exciting and motivate me to keep pushing myself.

I took the Spartan Obstacle Specialist Course at MROC and it was an amazing experience as an athlete. I am looking to compete at a more Elite Level in OCR and this workshop was exactly what I needed. I am in the gym 6 days a week, but this class offered skill training in obstacles such as monkey bars, twister, carrys, running technique, Olympus etc. that you just don’t get time to practice unless your in a race. Not to mention OCR strategy tips from the coaches! Would recommend 10 outta 10.

Bonus, the coaching staff was kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming to those who train and MROC or just come in for the short course.

Original rating: MROC is the best obstacle training gym around. While I was a member there I was in the best shape of my life. My runs got faster, my lifts got heavier and my races got easier. MROC is amazing! I had been struggling to motivate myself to get in shape but have never been interested in traditional gyms. After seeing an ad for MROC I spoke with Mike, one of the owners, and came in for a trial class. I was admittedly anxious but the community there was so welcoming as soon as I arrived. I was hooked after the very first class. The classes are challenging but rewarding, and even after only a month I feel a difference in my strength and energy.

Coach Liv does a fantastic job of motivating the class while ensuring people are staying safe with proper form. There is a lot of positive energy during the classes which makes it easy to work out at your level during the sessions. There is no pressure to overexert yourself and I genuinely enjoy the varied workouts.

If you are looking to get in shape and have fun while doing it I highly recommend you give MROC a shot. I look forward to continuing my fitness journey with MROC and hope to see you there for your trial class.

I was initially extremely convinced I was too old and too out of shape to join this gym. For the last decade I have been going to yoga, barre, and Pilates, and was bored to death. I knew I wasn’t self disciplined enough to go to a big box gym and hire a personal trainer, I’ve been down that route, and it’s too easy to not go when no one is holding you accountable. And then I turned 50. If you haven’t had the luxury of having your body slowly fall apart, especially after multiple back surgeries, joining this gym was as realistic as flying on a pig. I saw it accidentally after seeing a workout and thought, “suckers”. And then my jeans wouldn’t magically close. I decided to take the leap, and found that this is no ordinary place. It’s a family, a community, a place to meet like minded people and achieve what I thought were impossible goals. The trainers know my name, we all want the best for each other. I feel so high on endorphins after every class, I didn’t even notice the 12 pounds that have already fallen off. I’m so fortunate and grateful to have found MROC, it truly changed my life dramatically for the better.

About 8 months ago, I was looking for a gym where I can train for my Spartan race which I’ve been racing since 2021. My friend highly recommended MROC Training. At first, I was skeptical since it’s a bit far from home. I gave it a try and signed up for a free week pass and to my surprise this gym really exceeded my expectations. The coaches are very knowledgeable and professional. They are also among the elite athletes. All the workouts are movements based on real world situational biomechanics. That means this gym is fitted for all levels of fitness, age and gender. Everybody is welcome!!!!
Personally, since I joined this gym, I’ve seen tremendous improvement in my overall strength, endurance, health and I’m still getting better everyday.

Obstacle courses to train you for both spartan and hyrox races, open gym hours, and overall it’s just a gym that you can feel confident in. On top of that, the coaches and members are absolutely awesome. You will be welcomed with open arms. Come check it out and see for yourself!

MROC is not just an awesome gym, it’s a welcoming community. I have thoroughly enjoyed every workout. This gym has expanded my knowledge of different muscle groups and works for any fitness level. It’s fun and new every day. The staff are knowledgeable, the members are amazing, and my only regret is not signing up years ago.

This gym is awesome! If you’re looking for a place to find great coaching, solid programming, improve strength, conditioning and cardio look no further. The gym culture is fun but work hard. No egos or forced RX workouts. They have a great app for viewing workouts and tracking results from workout to workout. Added bonus, if you’re into obstacle course races this place has all that equipment and these get incorporated into daily workouts.

I found MROC by signing up for a single obstacle course training class in preparation for my first spartan race. What was originally planned for a 1-time thing, ended up turning into an amazing part of my life. For the last few years, I’ve tried to get back into the gym consistently but have let excuses hold me back. Since I’ve been at MROC, consistency has not been an issue. Between the coaching, programs, people and environment, it’s all so addicting. It's challenging but rewarding, draining but motivating and overall, so much fun! I have not been to a place like this where everyone is so motivating and excited to celebrate your growth. I thank everyone at MROC for the great experience and I definitely recommend MROC to others.

As being a new member, I’m so grateful to have found this gym. The gym itself is great but the people and coaches make it fantastic. The coaches are there to support you and help with your techniques and they join the workouts too! It’s not just the coaches who make it great, but everyone else too. We are all together and support one another (whether it’s saying good job, keep it up, fist bumps or high fives every time we go for a run or do a certain exercise). It doesn’t feel like a competition compared to other gyms. Everyone there is supporting you to help reach your goal like a family.

When I first joined MROC 5 months ago, my initial goal was training to complete a Spartan race. I haven't raced competitively in over 10 years (since high school) and I wanted to gain that competitive edge back. Throughout my time at MROC, I've had the pleasure in taking the Obstacle Specialist Workshop coached by Coach Mike and the Running Skills Series coached by Coach Matt. During these seminars, these coaches provided excellent knowledge, technique, and feedback to improve my obstacle skills and running techniques. Each coach worked with me 1 on 1 to ensure I performed the workout correctly without mistake or injury. They displayed great patience, understanding, and were truly dedicated in helping me perfect my craft. After training at MROC 5 days a week consistently for 5 months, I have seen some tremendous results in my endurance and strength. MROC has helped me drop 2 minutes off my 5k time and helped me break 20 minutes for the Carlsbad 5000 and MROC has given me the confidence to run in the competitive division for Spartan in my first year where they have helped me place top 10 in my age group for each race. If you are looking to make a change in your life, a different set of workouts, a coach to really push you to your true potential, this is the gym to be at! Thank you MROC and all the coaches for making a huge impact on my life!

Came to the gym 5 months ago to start getting back into shape after working out on and off for the last 8yrs and train for a Spartan race in January. I have had nothing but the best time and best experience with everyone here. The coaches and members are awesome and I feel like I am on a team again. I have done 4 spartan races since joining the gym and have continued to improve with every race. The workouts are not like any other gym I have been to in a good way. Highly recommend.

I participated in the Running Skills Series led by Coach Brandon with assistance by Coach Matt. As an avid runner focusing on longer-distance trail running, I was keenly interested in fixing current form issues and improving my overall running mechanics, pace, and efficiency. I was incredibly impressed with the attention to details, taking us back to the basics and teaching not just the what but the why behind proper running form, movement, mobility work, nutrition, hydration, and gear choice. Coach Brandon took before and after videos and the difference in my form and speed was abundantly clear. It's amazing what can happen in just a few weeks with expert-level instruction and coaching. Which is exactly what I expected based on my previous experience at MROC - the attention to quality and detail at this gym and through their coaches is top-notch!

MROC has completely transformed my life, and I couldn't be more thrilled to give it a well-deserved five-star review. This gym has been nothing short of exceptional, and I attribute much of my success to the outstanding coaching team, with special shout-outs to coach Matt and coach Brandon.

From the moment I walked through the doors of MROC, I was welcomed with a sense of community that's hard to find elsewhere. The atmosphere is not only motivating but also genuinely supportive. The staff and fellow members create a positive, encouraging environment that makes every workout something to look forward to.

Now, let's talk about Matt and Brandon, the dynamic duo of coaches at MROC. Their knowledge, passion, and dedication to helping clients achieve their fitness goals are truly commendable. The effort that goes into the weekly programming has been invaluable in my fitness journey. They go above and beyond to ensure that each session is not just a workout but an educational experience, empowering me to make better choices in and out of the gym.

One of the standout qualities of Matt and Brandon, in addition to their fitness expertise, is their lighthearted personalities. These coaches not only bring a wealth of knowledge to the gym but also a healthy dose of humor and positivity. Their ability to make even the toughest workouts enjoyable with their witty banter is truly remarkable. It's not just about getting fit at MROC; it's about having a great time while doing it.

What truly sets MROC apart is the holistic approach to fitness and well-being. It's not just about lifting heavy weights or running fast; it's about transforming your life. I've seen remarkable changes in my strength, endurance, and overall health since joining MROC. This gym has become a second home, a place where I've made lasting friendships and found the motivation to become the best version of myself.

In summary, MROC deserves every one of its five stars, and I have Matt and Brandon to thank for being incredible coaches who have guided me on this incredible journey. If you're searching for a gym that can truly change your life and provide an amazing fitness experience, look no further than MROC. It's more than a gym; it's a community, a support system, and a place where goals are crushed on a regular basis.

I started the 28 Day Challenge on July 19, 2023 and I love the gym. I found it Googling "Ninja Gyms Oceanside". My favorite part is all of the obstacles, and that is from a 58 year old woman who can't even do a pull up (yet). I am confident the coaches will help me achieve my goals of successful performance of the obstacles. It may take a while but I have already gone from being afraid to do a 12" box jump to performing multiple reps on the 16" box, barely able to hang my full body weight to traveling 5 rungs on the monkey bars, and never flipping a tire to flipping the 300lb tire twice. The coaches are fantastic following the WOD (Workout of the Day) with their corrections and advice on movements in the gym for the last 2 months I see little improvements everyday which keeps me motivated and the best surprise was being able to descend stairs pain free. In the past the pain in my knees was excruciating. I have to admit my muscles have been sore ever since I started but it's a good kind of satisfying feeling that comes from hard work. The other members are great too, encouraging and lifting each other to better performance. Even when I don't feel like working out I know I am going to leave ther feeling fantastic. Exhausted but fantastic.

The. Best. GYM. Around! Yes, seriously! MROC is the best gym around!

I would describe MROC as a unique gym with a fun mix of obstacle course training (think Spartan, Deka, Hyrox etc.), cross-fit, and HIIT workouts. Every workout starts out with a dynamic warm-up then goes right into a creative program that blends all the above training principles. It is fun, yet very challenging. Each day of the week presents a new workout so you wont be stuck doing the same things day by day. I think the coaches enjoy finding new ways to physically whip you into shape ;)

The coaches I have taken classes with (Brandon, Michelle, and Matt) are great athletes who actively compete in various OCR races and are also extremely knowledgeably about fitness, obstacle course training, and strength and conditioning techniques. They strive to ensure safety and proper lifting techniques are applied. Their goal is to make sure you get a good workout in but without injury.

If you are looking to run in a Spartan, Tough Mudder, Deka, or Hyrox competition. MROC is the place to train at.

If you are looking to get in shape while surrounding yourself with awesome and encouraging people. MROC is the place to train at.

Whatever your goals are. MROC is the place to train at.

Don't be shy! Try the 28-day challenge and see for yourself.

I started by trying out MROC with the 28 day challenge in early Feb of 2023 and got hooked. I’ve run lots of Spartan Races over the years but always had issues with the overhead obstacles. Since starting at MROC, the coaches have worked with me to help me crush them and I can do them all now (though I’m still working on getting faster on them).

MROC’s classes have a great mix of strength, agility, obstacles, and running and mixes them all together in a way that’s approachable and challenging for people of all skill levels.

Love the recovery lab and open gym too. Really good culture and friendly members who will welcome you no matter how new you are to working out.

Whether you’re looking for a specialty gym to help take you to the next level for Spartan Races, Tough Mudders, or other obstacle races or just want to get in shape, MROC is the place to be.

10/10 would recommend.

MROC has everything you need for OCR and Spartan Race training. Although I've completed 25 Spartan Races, their Obstacle Skill Series training provided pro tips and multiple techniques to complete an obstacle that I never considered. The MROC equipment/obstacles replicate Spartan's and enabled me to repeatedly practice what I learned; likely saving me a 60-90 burpees per race. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and top notch OCR performers. It's totally worth the time and money to invest in MROC training.

Was in the area for a short time for work, decided to try out this gym because it looked so fun! Not only did they have a flexible payment plan for my short stay, the whole gym had a really great vibe. All the instructors are so sweet and encouraging and knowledgeable, so are the folks who attend classes regularly. Definitely not your average gym — the obstacle course aspect makes it like a big jungle gym for adults plus you get stronger and more prepared for any obstacle course races you may do. Lots of classes offered early morning and later in the evening. Also they do a body scan for objective tracking of your progress! Would def recommend to everyone who wants a welcoming and super unique gym.

All the other five star reviews got it right for this gym. I am so grateful I decided to join as soon as I moved to Carlsbad. I have learned so much in the short time I’ve been a member. The coaches truly care about your form and progress. They are so upbeat and the members are so incredibly nice and motivating. The obstacles are super fun and make you want to get stronger to conquer them. You will be pushed to be better and to do it with a smile on your face.

I recently took the running clinic which was 3 sessions over the course of three weeks. This was exactly what I needed. I used to be a runner, but due to a back injury had to take the past year off of running. Now getting back into it I wanted to make sure my form was correct. The clinic taught me better form and so much more. I feel so much better running now and am ready to start increasing my distance. If you’re on the fence about one of their clinics I say just do it. You’ll have fun and probably gain more than you expect.

This review is a long time coming. But how to convey how awesome this place is? I would give it 100 stars! I’ve done a lot of workout programs…like, a LOT! But I’ve NEVER made the progress like I have in the 3 1/2 months I’ve been coming here! When I started I was pretty good at hanging motionless from the monkey bars. Now I can go UP the monkey bars, swing from ring to ring, go over the high wall faster, and today I got the Spartan race weight Herc Hoist to the top…TWICE!! I can lift heavier, use better form, and run faster! The coaches here are WORLD CLASS! Even in group classes, it feels like you’re getting so much one-on-one coaching. There’s no way I’d have made this much progress in such a short time (if ever) by attending traditional group fitness classes at any other gym I’ve gone to. If you’re looking for a place to get in the best shape of your life, whilst having a ton of fun, stop looking and join MROC! I’d heard about MROC from a friend and was curious, but super intimidated! The first time I walked in, Coach Brandon was there & cheerfully said, “Oh come on in, don’t be intimidated, it’s just basically like a playground for grownups.” And that’s about sums it up…a playground full of really fun encouraging people where you get awesome at doing cool stuff.

tl;dr…Just join, you won’t regret it!

***UPDATE May 5, 2022***
I just wanted to provide a quick update on my review. After about 1.5 years of being apart of the MROC Army, I couldn't be more happy with my decision to join MROC! Going to the gym is now truly something I look forward too each day.

The gym has drastically improved all aspects of my health and fitness. I've lost about 30 lbs since joining and have made incredible gains in my strength, endurance, and cardio. Now instead of just trying to survive the workouts, I'm working on pushing myself each day, and am setting and achieving goals I never thought possible.

This is all thanks to the MROC staff and fellow gym members who provide a community of support and motivation that is unmatched. I can't recommend MROC more to anyone that wants to improve their health and fitness and have a great time doing it!
******
MROC has been a true highlight in my life since I joined back in September! I can't recommend it more to anyone looking to improve their health!

As a gym it was exactly what I was looking for. They do a great job of incorporating all aspects of overall fitness: strength, cardio, endurance, mobility, and functional fitness. Which was critically important to me, because I want to be the best balanced athlete I can be. Their workouts are INTENSE but in a good way! They help you push past your limits, work harder and do more than you ever thought possible! And yes they also have all the awesome obstacles you could ever imagine! So if you're an OCR racer or just looking for something new and fun to shake up your workouts, you can't find another place like this anywhere in SD.

But what I really think makes MROC so unique and special are their Coaches — they are simply EXCEPTIONAL! I don't know how else to put it. Not only are they incredible, elite level athletes with a deep knowledge of exercises, fitness and mobility, but their energy and enthusiasm is infectious! They create an atmosphere that is so positive, happy and motivating that you can't help but want to be there, even as they're kicking your butt in a workout!

And I've had amazing results since I joined! Everyone kept saying "you just gotta keep showing up" and boy do the results start coming in! In the short time that I've been there, I've lost a considerable amount of weight, made major gains in strength, and greatly improved my overall cardio. MROC has got me back on the path working towards the level of fitness I want to achieve and I couldn't be more excited to "keep showing up"!

What can I truly say about MROC that hasn’t already been said? I was looking to switch up my workout routine after being at my workout studio for 4 years. I needed something that was going to challenge me both physically and mentally. I was looking for something that was going to push me past what I thought my limits were and make me a better athlete all around. I checked out their obstacle simulation course on a Saturday and was instantly hooked. After trying a few other workout studios, I kept thinking about how challenging the course was and how much I was itching to come back. What else sold it for me was how much they want you to respect the space that you’re in and keep things clean. That is HUGE for me! Everything that everyone is saying in these reviews are spot on. MROC has some of the best coaches I have ever worked with. They are not only your biggest cheerleaders, but they also truly care about what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Trying new things can be super intimidating but you have a community of people behind you at all different phases/paths in their lives, cheering you on. It is challenging but, it is FUN! At the risk of sounding like I'm exaggerating - this place changed my life. I'm not a member and live over an hour away from MROC but I heard they had a running clinic through word of mouth and decided it was worth checking out. I love running and have been recovering from a series of injuries, so I almost didn't go, but again, thought that I might still get something out of it even if I couldn't participate. Not only could I participate, but I saw and felt an astonishing change by the end of the clinic. We covered an impressive amount of information in so many areas related to running like lifestyle, nutrition, form, equipment.... For something that I have loved doing and pursued my whole life, I had no idea how little I actually knew. I wasn't by any means the only one that saw success - I think every single person there felt a certain degree of the same. More than the external/physical improvements though, I felt a renewed sense of hope in what I would be able to accomplish going forward, knowing that I am approaching it in a much healthier and worthwhile way. Thank you so much to both coaches - Tiffany and Brandon!

I've never been a gym rat before but something about MROC keeps me showing up consistently every week. The encouragement & support I get from the coaches and all the members is very real. Definitely worth every penny!!!! I'm loving the results too.

I never thought, at 47, I’d be in the best shape of my life! For 27 years I had been working out at the big name gyms, doing my own thing. One of the best things about Mroc is that the amazing coaches design workouts for us! No more thinking about what you’re going to do at the gym or if you’re doing it right. The coaches are there assisting you every step of the way. If you’re looking to train for a Spartan race this is the place to be! I recently ran my first race and placed 7th out if 15 in age group. The coaches and I are already working on getting me to the next level for my second race !
The first thing I noticed at Mroc was that this gym was on another level. As a beginner there, I was worried I couldn’t do all the others could do , but, to my relief, the expert coaches modified the workouts for me. Whether your an elite athlete or just starting to workout, the trainers will meet you where you’re at on your journey.
The other members are welcoming and encouraging to all! We are like a big family and I’ve made several new friends.
If you want to race Spartans or just get into better shape, you will reach your personal goals here!

I joined MROC in November 2021 and have had the most wonderful experience ever joining a group fitness community. The people (trainers and athletes) here are truly kind and genuinely happy to be there, to see you, and make you feel welcome immediately. I've joined many different group fitness places, including crossfit, and none of them were as welcoming and FUN as MROC. The incorporation of running, lifting, HIIT training, and obstacles keeps your body constantly moving and reacting for a true total body workout.
If you enjoy working out, have goals you want to achieve, and are looking for a fun, inviting place to do it, MROC is the place for you!!

traveled 2 hours to get here. Oh boy was it worth it. had everything i needed to get the "ninja" workout i needed. But this facility is way more than Ninja, i think they had every fitness modality one could ever want. The trainer had a couple great techniques to help me conquer my weak areas. The facilty was super clean, super organized. Asked my husband if we could move closer. Best gym ever!.

MROC is fantastic and I couldn't be happier there. I took over two years off from OCR after moving across the country, and after being at MROC for only 4 months, I actually did better on the obstacles than in the past.

If OCR isn't your thing, the gym is still terrific. The community is top notch, and there is nothing but support from the other members.

The gym also hit a home run with the primary coaches. Not only are Coach Tiff and Coach Brandon world class athletes in their own right, they are excellent at leading classes and getting the absolute best out of everybody.

Went there on the open gym day and honestly could not have had a better experience. Both of the present coaches were extremely friendly and helpful. I was there for an hour and a half and every bit of it was challenging, but fun. If you want a new way to train and enjoy yourself, go to an open gym day and try this out.

MROC is where you go when you don't want to just progress in your fitness journey, but when you want to redefine it. It's where you go when you're ready to challenge yourself and learn what your body is truly capable of.

MROC is special because of their holistic approach to training. Yes, the training programs are intentional and challenging in the best way. But it's more than that. It starts with the warm reception you get from Coach Jody and filters through every element of your workout. You'll learn proper form and technique for every move no matter how small (shout-out to Coach Brandon who never cuts corners so we can always push ourselves safely!). You'll come to appreciate what mobility can do for you (seriously, you need to take one of Coach Jeremy's classes!). And you'll always be met exactly where you are while consistently encouraged to grow (you won't find a bigger chearleader than Coach Tiff!).

However, I have found that there is a drawback. Between the stellar coaches; small class sizes; infused accountability; program structure; and an unyieldingly supportive community, you'll find yourself stripped of any excuse you may have been able to hide behind. If you bring the energy, you will reach your goal.

I found MROC on Google in 2016. I completed my first Spartan race and it was obvious I was lacking many skills necessary to participate in obstacle course races. I attended Saturday OCR bootcamps until Oct of 2020 when I joined the gym on a full membership.
MROC coaches are very experienced and knowledgeable in strength training, running and obstacle course skills. They always challenge us to push harder while making sure we have a good form.
MROC offers regular nutrition challenges and workshops as well as mobility classes to encourage us to take care of our bodies beyond the workouts.
Our gymfam is very friendly and we all have each other’s backs, in the gym and outside of it.
I highly recommend joining MROC if you are looking to challenge yourself and learn how to properly exercise and get stronger and faster, all while having fun with some awesome people.

Thanks again!!!

Excellent training, great results so far and I've got these new people in my life that bring nothing but positive energy to the table. I can not say enough good things about this business or the employees. I love the gym, I love to train, more so, I love to see results. Ok, done, I am already feeling incredibly good getting back into shape here. But that's not really brag worthy. I walk in and literally EVERYONE is smiling, sweating, and motivating the people around them. The vibes at MROC are so good, it's hard NOT to push yourself and believe in yourself when the coaches and others training outwardly believe in you. Plus, you have people with incredible credentials right there to help you meet your goals. The owner has gone out of his way to film short videos to help you recover at home, there are guided meal challenges, if you like competitive races (Spartan, Tough Mulder, etc) you are in a gym full of people who want to do them with you, if like to lift heavy weights they do that too, even runners are there getting there sweat on.
Forget the traditional gym, come join me at MROC.

Very happy to have joined this gym. Working out before hand felt like a chore but with MROC I actually enjoy going to workout. The coaches are well versed in all things fitness and the classes are very challenging but coaches are quick to make adjustments and provide alternate workouts should the workouts of the day be too challenging. Good for any starting fitness level. Shakes up your workout too as during one session you might be doing deadlifts then scaling a rock wall or A-Frame obstacle; keeps it interesting. Coaches care more about form rather then reps to make sure you don't hurt yourself and get the most of your workout. Everyone we've encountered there have also been very friendly and encouraging during the workout process. Working out with the Coaches and other members definitely feels like a team effort. MROC is an astounding place to achieve your fitness goals, whatever they may be. There is so much buy-in from an incredibly accomplished coaching team; they put in a staggering amount of effort to design challenging and varied group 35-45 minute workouts that can be catered to individual fitness levels. Whatever your fitness goal, (e.g. competing in endurance races, losing weight) the coaches will make sure you specify it so they can help you reach it. Workouts rotate every 6 weeks and contain a mix of cardio (e.g. hill repeats), obstacle (e.g. monkey bars), and strength-based (e.g. squats and cleans) exercises, ensuring that you will advance all aspects of your fitness. The sheer amount of certifications and training the coaches have results in a strong focus on working out effectively and safely (i.e. with proper lifting form). I am always impressed by the detailed, individual attention I receive during a group class with ~20 people. Finally, the MROC community cannot be overlooked -- the people here are more than "gym buddies:" by joining this group you'll inevitably form close friendships that extend well beyond the gym. I cannot recommend MROC enough.

Fantastic functional fitness gym combining a great balance of free-weight strength training, body-weight exercise, HIIT, and obstacle course workouts in an ultra-cooperative, mostly outdoor environment. Unparalleled encouragement from members and coaches with deep knowledge of mobility & injury prevention! (Quick version)

I joined MROC in late Sept. of 2020. While sitting on the couch watching “American Ninja Warrior” I noticed the contestants creating & training on elaborate set-ups in their backyard, and clips of them ‘flying’ around obstacles in a specialized gym. I wanted that! I certainly didn’t have the motivation to build it, so when 30 seconds later my girlfriend Googled MROC less than 2 miles away I was a little shocked. 3 years had passed and I never even knew it was there . . . I had never looked. The next day I walked in the gym to talk to Mike about joining.

Being 48 and on the edge of clinically obese, my apprehension was real. Questioning my ability, fearing injury, and if I’m honest, still not wanting to work too hard. I was a wrestler and lifted weights in high school, and have been active most of my life with hiking, basketball, snorkeling/scuba, biking, etc. until about 15 years ago – that was about the last time I was close to being in-shape. Having worked some very physically demanding jobs, and consistently embracing a ‘weekend warrior’ mentality, without warrior training, I’ve racked up a laundry-list of injuries from a combination of time, circumstance, and poor judgement.

The first 3 orientation sessions were eye-opening. Gravity is intense in this place! Holding your own body weight off the ground and trying to move it can be, and was, humbling. I did NOT have a straight upward line of improvement. I could barely run when I started, and certainly not without pain. My body has been strained and I’ve had to modify/substitute exercises. The urge to pass-out and vomit did occur in those first 3 months.
Almost 6 months have passed and I’m feeling years younger! I’m down from 224 lbs to 195.5, as of today. Obstacles that I could only hold on to for a few seconds I can now complete easily. I never enjoyed the deadlift until, in the first session, I learned I had never done it correctly; now it’s second nature and I feel powerful executing it. The challenge of learning the movements, group atmosphere, and contagious energy tempered the hardship by adding plenty for my mind and spirit to thrive. By MROC utilizing 3D measurements and regular app-based data entry tools, the progress I’ve experienced is undeniable.

A HUGE benefit to MROC is the coaching enthusiasm & expertise. Coach Brandon and Coach Mel are incredibly effective at getting my body and mind to do what it does not naturally want to embrace. What has pleasantly surprised me is their engaged oversight, paying close attention to form (adding constant correction), and ability to adapt my workout around injury – nullifying a huge excuse for me in the past to throw in the towel.

The supportive body of members is the literal heartbeat of these intense sessions. MROC is made up of a very diverse positive group of which there is always someone to relate and connect. Unlike any gym I’ve been a part of, the support and encouragement from the members was immediately noticed and made me work harder. I will not soon forget the group cheering that erupted mid-workout when I completed for the first time a version of the corkscrew obstacle. I hadn’t even realized there were eyes on me at the time. Since then, I have spontaneously taken part in cheering for others, and am inspired by their courage to take on what they have never done perhaps in their whole life.

MROC has put the fun back into exercise for me, all-the-while, preparing me to embrace the adventures I have yet in life to experience . . . rather than find excuses to avoid them. Truthfully, I believe I am just scratching the surface of the resources, potential, and community MROC have to offer!

Too many good things to say can’t find the words to say it but here it goes!
Being new to MROC was intimidating!! And I say that in the best way possible. Intimidating but EXCITING! From the outside looking in, it’s hardcore. But once you’re in you’re hooked!
It may be tough and challenging, but all at your own pace.
I specifically love that they take 3 days to personally train you in fundamental movements before group training. It doesn’t just stop there though, coach Brandon & coach Mel consistently throughout the classes watch and correct form/grip or even modify if needed.
ALL of the coaches are knowledgeable, fun, and amazing to workout and mobilize with. Not only are the coaches great but the community within as well. Everyone is constantly encouraging and pushing each other.
Never a dull moment at MROC!
With that being said in the short amount of time I’ve joined the gym I feel stronger and faster, result city!

I found MROC when I was just looking for a gym that was actually open during COVID, with some obstacles. While I was initially a bit turned off by the family oriented nature of the gym (by that I mean everyone is really supportive and close knit), because I really just wanted a gym to workout and not talk to anyone, its really grown on me and I have found a group of people I consider both friends and family. Its a great place for the elite athlete and someone just starting out, and the community aspect brings people from all different levels/abilities together. I always feel like I'm being pushed to be better, lift heavier, run faster, while also being encouraged. The coaches are really top notch - very accomplished athletes themselves, extremely knowledgeable, and supportive. Even the app we use at the gym is pretty cool and allows us to easily track progress (for example, if I want to see my max all time for deadlifts, or find out if I had a new record), and allows for some healthy competition since you can see how others are performing in your class and other classes. The layout and equipment at the gym is pretty good too. My only complaints are that there's no sleds and that open gym hours are not as long as I'd like, but the gym owner does a quarterly member survey and is always reacting to our feedback, so I trust in time, there will be sleds and longer hours.

MROC cannot be properly described with words, but I'll tell you my experience! I was looking for something different and heard about Spartan races. I found MROC on a Google search and set up my introduction with Coach Mike. First thing the coaches at MROC did was teach me the basic movements that I would be doing. Coaches Mel and Brandon went over all of the obstacles at the gym by demonstrating them first then they asked me to execute what they just taught me, not hard at all. The second step was to join a group class! WHOA! This is when l realized the workout is anything but basic, in fact it is tougher than any other workout I've done. Third thing that I experienced was the constant encouragement and assistance from every coach and every member. Every member I've met wants everyone else to do great during each workout. When I'm worn out and barely moving, another member will start cheering for me or the coaches will do an exercise with me (like running) to help motivate me to push further.

This gym is more than just a workout place, it is a family of athletes and I'm proud to say that I found a new home at MROC!

While I have always been active I really got into fitness about 7 years ago. It started with home videos like Insanity and outdoor activities such as running biking and paddle boarding. As I got older, my responsibilities shifted and my time for these activities became scarce.
As a way to prioritize my fitness (and to get out of the house), I’ve tried several gyms in North County over the past few years.
First was Orange Theory which provided a great indoor cardio workout. Their tread mills and rowers are great but I quickly maxed out the weights that were available for lifting. Also while I liked many of coaches I found them cheering me on instead of helping me improve my technique to achieve my goals. As I wanted to become stronger, I then joined a box gym. With a focus heavy lifting, I enjoyed the wide variety of equipment but often found myself spending 1.5-2 hours at the gym as I was unsure what to do each day.
Then I found MROC.... For me, MROC has been a great balance of cardio, weight lifting and functional fitness. The classes are small and coaches do a great job of motivating while still correcting technique.
Over the past year I have become stronger and better conditioned but more importantly, I have become a better athlete! This is because MROC teaches the “why”behind everything they do. Since joining, I have learned about Olympic lifting, trail running, obstacle course racing and more. In addition to being a better athlete, MROC also offers classes on diet, mobility and running that help with performance, recovery and injury prevention.
Another thing I like about MROC is the bench mark week that occur every quarter. These workouts are the same each quarter giving you the opportunity to recognize your improvements first hand and more imperially set goals for the next quarter.
Lastly, while the gym is great the coaches and members are what make it special. From my first day there the entire gym has gone out of its way to make me feel like a part of the community. Whether you are the strongest or weakest, fastest or slowest everybody is there to support and cheer you on.
Whether you are looking to race your first Spartan, become a better athlete or just get in shape and have fun MROC has something that you will enjoy and a community that will support you along the way.

Now it’s nothing to knock out 20 push ups of different types a round. My deadlift is now up to a 215 max and 135 back squat. I also shaved over 2 minutes off my mile.
I have also gained a huge support system and friends that help me achieve my goals and make sure my technique and form are on point!
Excellent coaches, ok,....the best, great programming, and also support for nutrition!

THE PREMIER gym in North County if you want top quality coaches and personalized training for superior functional fitness. Mike and his crew specialize in getting people ready for Spartan races but their support has much more to offer. They help members with goal setting, nutrition, running techniques, and have the energy to keep you motivated to meet your goals. Highly recommended for all ages.

If you’re serious about getting in shape, there’s nothing out there like MROC. Gyms are boring and monotonous. MROC is fun, exciting, challenging, and you’ll be part of a great community that pushes you, encourages you, and helps you be better in every way.

I was not sure what to except when I decide to join MROC 2 years ago. I was very out of shape and had never done any obstacle course training. All I can say is WOW! This has been the best decision I have ever made! Not only is MROC fun but I t’s like having a second family! A fit family that you can go run with or say I’ll meet you at the gym. The coaches are so attentive and caring and know everyone on a personal level. They know your strengths and weaknesses as well as how to motivate you to get better with each class you take! I can not recommend this gym enough! Make the call talk to a coach and get in the gym you will not regret it! MROC is definitely the best choice when you are looking for a great workout a safe environment and new friends! Come join the family at our fantastic gym!

Joining MROC Has been the best decision I’ve made in a long time. I live about 40 mins, sometimes an hour, away from the facility. The early mornings and long drives are well worth it it. I love everything about this gym. The trainers, the workouts and the workout partners. I can’t thank MROC enough the the live, time and effort they put into this gym.

As a OCR racer I was looking for something that would train me specifically for OCR racing. Trail running, obstacles, weight training as well as diet and nutrition. I found all that and more at MROC. They consistently adapt to OCR racing with obstacles and new equipment not to mention educated experienced coaches that motivate you in so many different ways. At other gyms it can be scary and intimidating. Not at MROC, day one you are part of the tribe!
This is the only place to really get serious about racing or just have fun with a great group of like minded in people.

If you even considering this as a gym, just stop thinking and come join NOW. I have been dealing with a bad hip and lower back for 10 years now from my military service and in and out of physical therapy, the chiropractor, injections, everything leading up to surgery (which I'm trying to avoid). The coaches and staff here are extremely well educated and passionate about the overall well being and success of each individual person.
During my initial meeting, they took me through a list of basic movements and immediately started scaling and altering movements to where I could still participate and pain free. They also introduced me to "Active Release Therapy" which I had never heard of before, but I gave it a try and in conjunction with the gym and therapy my range of motion and mobility have improved so much (at least what I consider a huge improvement) in just a matter 3 months.
The coaches know everyone by name, your personality, and what motivates and drives you while knowing how to and when to "scale you back" when needed for us high intensity driven folks (like myself). I can't thank the coaches, staff, and members/family here enough for helping me climb this personal mountain and start to see over the horizon and couldn't have asked to find a better gym to do it at.
So again, if you're looking for a gym and considering MROC, just stop and come in now, you won't regret it!

I joined MROC about 1.5 years ago and haven't looked back. I wanted a gym that would help me get into shape and motivate me to stay in shape. Mike, Krista, Mel and the other coaches do just that. I didn't know anything about obstacle course racing (OCR) but the training program has been challenging and FUN (well, after class is finished...). MROC is a tribe of supportive OCR athletes, enthusiasts and those of us who just don't want to get creaky as we grow up. I highly recommend you check MROC out and find out why JUICE-ing makes a difference.

Been going to MROC in Oceanside for over 6 months now and I’m very pleased with my fitness results so far. It’s been years since I had a gym membership and I was looking for a place that provided not only a great workout but teaches useful everyday techniques I could apply to my outdoor activities and hobbies. Since joining I have been able to track my success in the benchmark testing MROC provides on a quarterly basis, they also encourage the use of a personal health and fitness app called Naked Labs. Both of these have shown that their methods equal results, the best part is I actually enjoy putting in the work because the coaches Mel, Brandon, Krista and Mike are just good people and really care about each members fitness goals. The results also show big time in the other activities and sports I do. Best place I’ve found in Oceanside and North County, my best friend has joined me at MROC and I hope to have other friends join as well in the future. I’ve set a goal to complete a Spartan Race Trifecta this year which wasn’t even in my wheelhouse last year. This is the place to go if your training for Tough Mudder and Spartan Race style Obstacle Course Racing events, once you check it out you’ll be hooked. Veteran family owned, obstacles, equipment and workouts are top notch, no matter what kind of shape your in this place will make you better, never any judgement on your abilities from coaches or members, they will tailor the workouts to fit your personal needs, and you will feel comfortable. It’s a family.

MROC has been a saving grace! I just joined this gym three months ago after so many years of not having a consistent workout regimen, running a mile or playing on jungle gyms. The first time I walked in the gym, I felt the magic. After my first three months of working out here, I feel the difference in every single aspect of my life.
The coaches work with you to develop individualized workout plans/fitness goals, develop action plans to make your goals achievable and push you to show up for yourself the whole way. The workouts are fun, the other members are SO encouraging and motivating and you're given the space to carve out your best self.
So why haven't you signed up yet? Come and Spartan up with us!
