I’ve been training with Coach Matt at the national wushu training center for about four months. Coming in a total beginner, Coach Matt laid a great foundation for me to feel challenged but still accomplished after each class. He gives great individual feedback, which is always a sign of a great teacher and Coach. Yes it’s outdoors on concrete, but it’s actually really nice to feel immersed in the heart of the Chinatown community! See you in class!

I've been training with NWTC consistently for 7 months and really love it. I started at age 35, in decent shape from strength/cardio training, and had previously studied Brazilian jiu jitsu and taekwondo. This kind of martial arts training is totally unique, emphasizing flexibility, coordination, agility, and aesthetics. And if you're into Hong Kong action movies, this is the class to take... it's big, flashy (and at advanced levels, acrobatic) choreography, the same sport that Jet Li practiced before becoming an actor. It's really fun, a great workout, and physically and intellectually challenging.

Coach Matt is an awesome teacher. Classes are usually around a dozen adults of diverse abilities and backgrounds, and held at an outdoor park in Chinatown with lots of individual attention. The culture of the school is really friendly and welcoming. The way Matt teaches is very systematic and well-designed, and it's cool to see how each lesson and routine builds on what came previously over many months. Matt has such a depth of knowledge about each little movement, can explain it to you in 5 different ways, can immediately tell where you're struggling or confused and help you troubleshoot it. You can tell this comes from a ton of experience, and knowledge passed down through several generations of teachers.

Highly recommend this school to anyone who's curious!

I've been training here for about six months now which is great because I can finally settle into the art/skill. The teacher is great. He likes to talk and share stories but we also get down to business especially as the skills become more difficult. This works great because if you have a pain, comment or concern he is open to discussion. Safety comes first and he always makes sure we have stretched. It's a great community and location. The other students have positive attitudes also. Overall, I am happy about my choice and have no regrets.
