I’ve been staying in San Diego for a short period and decided to try out Neighborhood Gym with their weekly membership option — and I’m genuinely glad I did. This turned out to be one of the best fitness experiences I’ve had, especially as someone who prefers private, quiet workout environments.
What makes Neighborhood Gym unique is their private-access system: you book a one-hour time slot each day and you get the entire gym to yourself during that period. For me, this was absolutely perfect. I could focus completely, train without interruptions, and move through my routine efficiently. It was the closest feeling to having my own personal fitness space, and I loved it.
The facility itself is excellent — everything is new, clean, and well-maintained. The equipment is modern and covers all the essentials: cardio, free weights, machines, mobility tools, and everything you’d expect from a full gym setup. Despite being a smaller footprint compared to big-box gyms, every piece of equipment is high quality and thoughtfully selected. The layout is simple and efficient, and it never felt cramped.
Another big plus is the bathroom and shower access. Being able to quickly change or take a shower after working out made it convenient to go straight into the rest of my day. For someone like me who often plans back-to-back work sessions and meetings, this made a huge difference.
The location is perfect — walking distance from where I’m staying near Crown Point / Mission Bay. It’s rare to find a gym that’s both this convenient and this well set up for private self-scheduled workouts.
Although Neighborhood Gym is a mostly self-service model, the staff deserves special mention. They were incredibly welcoming and helpful during my onboarding process. They walked me through how to use the app to access the gym, how to book sessions, and made sure I was completely comfortable with the system. Even though it’s a self-service gym, it never felt disconnected — the team clearly cares about supporting members.
Overall, this gym has been a perfect fit for my time in San Diego. If you value privacy, efficiency, clean facilities, and a stress-free environment, Neighborhood Gym is an amazing choice. Highly recommended, especially for people who want a flexible, modern, self-guided workout experience.

I originally came here looking for a private gym, and what I found was even better. The setup and the program are nothing like what I expected—honestly, it’s the best version of a “private gym” experience you could ask for. The owner’s communication is impeccable, the environment feels supportive, and it’s perfect if you struggle with gym anxiety. I’m really glad I started my journey here, and I can already see how special this concept is.

Great spot with everything you need for a good workout session (dumbbells up to 60-70 lbs, kettlebells, bike, treadmill, squat rack). Water station and bathroom with shower that makes staying hydrated and cleaning up after very convenient. Not a local but loved it and would recommend to give it a try!

As a woman I love the privacy of the workout rooms. I can get my workout in with no distractions and disturbances and no waiting for equipment/machines. The facilities are sparkling clean, the equipment is high quality, and the staff is always very kind. Thank you!

When I’m not writing horror novels, I’m looking for a sleek and private space to get my workout in! Neighborhood is hands down the best gym space I’ve ever stepped into. A smaller private and limited member gym. And whoever designed the place, I want them for my house! Bravo.

Wow wow wow. I wanted to gate keep this place because I seriously haven’t stepped foot into something like this before! I hate working out in big box gyms. And neighborhood answered that calling I guess! It’s a small sleek studio that has some of the best equipment, and the DESIGN!!! I wanna live here. I signed up on day one!
