I miss this place. I came here a few times a week when I was staying in Oakland for a month. The classes are wonderful. They have just the right amount of heat, not too much and not too little. I love that the teachers stayed true to yoga tradition while also incorporating their own personal flavor. I was on a monthlong inner spiritual retreat and coming to Nest Yoga supported that beautifully.
My favorite teachers were Dyamen and DeShauna.
I canβt wait to come back!! Thank you so much Nest Yoga πππ½

Truly incredible classes - rare to have a studio where each teacher is a master of their class, but Nest does it

I love Nest Yoga so many reasons. Top on my list is the depth and breadth of their teachers. Next comes the quality of the teachers they have on staff. Unbeatable! And finally, I also appreciate the diversity across their clientele. There is something for everyone and everyone is welcome.

I love Nest Yoga. Kim, the owner, is lovely and has curated a warm, welcoming space for all yogis. She is really eager to respond to questions or help with any issues. The different class offerings are great and the membership options make weekly classes much more affordable. I love Jody's class and look forward to it every week!

Everything from ropes/traction style classes, deeping one's practice workshops, roll & restore, recovery support, aging, grief to full body flow, meditation and so much more. Very kind staff. Such an awesome studio! 5 of the teachers there are on Sonima's list of 100 most influential global yoga teachers. I absolutely love taking classes from Richard Rosen, Jacquie Rowley, Nichole Chase and Annie Carpenter. Darren Main's restorative with hot stones - is so good! That is not saying anything about all of the other teachers - this is just the teachers I have practiced with and love so much I just keep going to their classes. I am a 500 YTT and I learn sooo much from these master level teachers. The students here are pretty astounding as well - there is an older demographic and do not think that is going to give you a pass - you are going to WORK - some of those mature yogis leave me in the dust!! Kim, the studio owner, is so welcoming and kind. The spaces are flooded with indirect light from skylights, clean and loaded with all the necessary props. There are many classes that are also offered live on zoom - so I I am traveling or don't feel like leaving the house, I can still get my practice in. There is also a very diverse pre recorded library of classes. A+++++

Unfortunately I had a negative experience during a Complete Yoga class. However the space was clean, bright and had a variety of props available for class. I wasnβt familiar with this type of yoga, not sure what itβs called, but no flow just switching between different postures and poses. When I tried playing around with and inversion after not feeling comfortable in the one being taught, I was told to get out of that posture because it βwasnβt apart of this class.β I have never experienced a class in which you were discouraged from playing around, or changing something because of discomfort. Iβm sure this is a great studio for certain clientele but this class just turned me off.

Had an absolutely incredible roll out class with Lynn here. I felt so safe and welcomed and was able to get a lot of mobility out of my shoulders (a problem spot for me). The room was clean and spacious and the equipment was lovely to work with.

I found Nest about a month ago and I love this place! For 20 years I was a power vinyasa girl, but due to a lot of health issues, this is a time of slowing down for me. Lynn and Melinaβs classes are both helping me be able to embrace my new pace, and loosening and lengthening me as well! The studio is very nice and the staff are super sweet. The only thing that is a little weird is that they donβt play any music during class or do Om, but maybe thatβs just a different approach than I am used to. Overall, this place is pretty amazing!!

I had a wonderful first week (new long-distance student at NEST) doing virtual zoom classes. Staff makes you feel welcomed and all my questions were answered immediately (esp. with the technical issues of using website and the Zoom app). Leslie Howard's classes and workshops were fantastic! The introductory 7 day Pass was a great opportunity to check out other teachers and Yoga styles.

Personable and professional. Rather than building a studio that generates the same damn flow class in neat 60 minute intervals, Next is building a community of practice with truly experienced teachers. You can tell because the students actually interact with one another, whereas at most studios there's not even any eye contact.

This is a clean, well-lit, well-situated studio in the heart of Oakland's Piedmont Avenue district. The class was challenging and the students were at all levels. Metered parking is easy in the lot across the street on 40th Street.

Great yoga place, with large, clean, well kept yoga rooms. Teachers (the ones iβve tried - about 4 of them) are, in general, knowledgeable and friendly. One star removed for setting up 90% of the classes as βall levelsβ. I understand that, from a business perspective, offering classes for all levels is probably one of the only ways to grow or make real money. But, still, this is enough to remove one star since for beginners is dangerous, as they are asked to perform poses they are not trained to do.

You and the Mat has excellent teachers and staff, as well as a beautiful space that is very inclusive. I went to over 20 classes in a month and without a doubt every single class and teacher had something unique to offer. Sarah Moody's class on Friday (Yoga for Flexibility) is wonderful, she is extremely calm and it's a great way to start the day. Richard Rosen's classes are Iyengar based, so that means it will be different than a flow-based class, but there is so much to learn from his experience and the class is very engaging and I always feel great after. Margi's yoga for flexibility on Mondays is also one of my favorites. She always has many options for people of the different levels, and I always leave with a smile on my face. In total, I recommend You and the Mat to everyone, and I look forward to every class I take.

I think You and the Mat is a wonderful place. The offer of various styles and classes and times is excellent and the monthly fee is very reasonable. I particularly like the free choice of classes and the fact that I can adjust my attendance freely according to how my daily schedule and wellbeing unfolds. The studio rooms are spacious and light. The staff very friendly.

Reasons I like Y&TM:
β’ Beautiful space with a simple wooden floor, lots of light, space, and fresh air.
β’ A schedule that includes a lot of classes and times to choose from (7 pm is a good time for a class, for me).
β’ Many classes that are suitable for all levels and that get back to the fundamentals of yoga.
β’ Instructors who are friendly and down-to-earth. They wonβt make you feel bad if you canβt do the splits.
β’ Great intro pricing β a month for $49 and an even cheaper (ridiculously cheap) Groupon deal.
β’ A lot of good-quality props that are made from sustainable materials.
β’ Some donation-based classes for charitable causes.
Iβm also giving them 5/5 Green Stars based on some of the reasons mentioned above.
