I’ve been training here for about 3.5 years now and it’s honestly the best Olympic weightlifting gym in Sac! When I 1st joined the gym the members were very welcoming and created a positive environment as Iwas just getting started with weightlifting lifting. Coach Russell is amazing and does a great job of coaching and pushing his athletes to new limits!

I started training here about two years ago and it’s honestly been life changing. In that time I’ve gotten so much stronger, built confidence, and even had the opportunity to compete at USAW Nationals. Russell is an amazing coach who knows how to meet you where you’re at, whether you want to chase competition goals or just learn something new.

The gym itself is set up really well. There’s a large Olympic Weightlifting room with eight platforms and plenty of equipment, and a second room that’s great for accessory work, bodybuilding, or functional fitness workouts. It’s a space where you can really grow as an athlete, try a new sport, or just add variety to your training.

If you’ve ever been curious about Olympic Weightlifting or just want a place to push yourself and get stronger, this is the place to go.

I love this place! Since I started coming here 2 years ago, I have gotten so much stronger and better at Olympic weightlifting. NorCal has kilogram plates, an array of both men’s and women’s barbells and a great community.

Training with the NorCal Weightlifting Team has been one of the most transformative parts of my journey as an athlete. The community is welcoming, hardworking, and supportive—but what really stands out is Russ’s coaching.
Russ has a way of seeing things others miss. His eye for detail, combined with his patience and direct honesty, has pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of. He doesn’t just coach lifts—he coaches athletes. He teaches you how to trust yourself, how to push when it matters, and how to show up even on the tough days.
Because of Russ’s guidance, I’ve grown not only in strength and technique but also in confidence. He’s helped me refine the little details that make the big difference, and his belief in me has helped me believe in myself. I wouldn’t be the athlete I am today without his coaching and the support of the NorCal Weightlifting family.
If you’re looking for a team that challenges you, supports you, and truly invests in your growth, NorCal Weightlifting is where you’ll find it.

You want to go to this gym. It’s a community based gym that motivates and helps one another to become better version of themselves. Open gym and everything you need to do without the machines!
