I love Orangetheory Fitness so much that I was beyond sad I couldn't go especially after moving up from SoCal to NoCal during the pandemic. Imagine my thrill to find out that my new house was just a few blocks away from the Shattuck Orangetheory Fitness. The staff are awesome, especially the manager, Van, who goes above and beyond for the members and crew. I love the coaches, especially Noah, as well as the front desk crew. Everyone takes time to learn our names and say hello and goodbye as we come and go. The location is great and the workouts are always amazing in true OTF fashion. So glad to be a regular here and thankful I found my OTF family.

OTF classes are wonderful! A perfect balance of building strength, cardio, but not too intense. I always feel good after a class. I really like the energy and structure, and given that we have a personal trainer guiding each class, the price is quite affordable too. Cameron's classes are inspirational, always upbeat and a balance of positive affirmations and challenging expectations.

Love love love this place. I've been coming for almost six months now and the environment makes me want to come multiple times a week. Every single person here makes it a fun place to be. I've worked my way up to 5x a week partly because I am trying to get into better shape but partly because I love the good vibes here so much. Front desk staff is always in a good mood and makes me feel welcome and valued. The coaches are also amazing. I switch up the times that I go quite a bit due to my work schedule so I've been to all of the coaches' classes and can genuinely say they're all amazing. I consistently go to Noah's Monday morning class because his high energy and motivating messages throughout class are a good way to start my week. I can also say that the community here is awesome. I've been doing group fitness for over 10 years now all and many places have members that are somewhat cold and standoffish. Folks here motivate each other through the workout (even without prompting from the coaches!). It's so welcoming!
And of course, the workouts will kick your butt into shape!

Great staff, wonderful coaches. As a female runner in my early 40s, I needed a way to add strength training into my routine while still getting the endorphins of my daily run and this has been the perfect addition. All the coaches are great, but I especially like Noah who gives lots of encouragement and Alex who always has a smile on his face and seems like he really enjoys coaching.

I’m in my late 30s, and joining this gym ~5 months ago to get the first serious, regular exercise of my life has been one of the best efforts I’ve ever made. Along with several other midlife-crisisy overhauls, this gym has become a pillar of my personal transformation and growth, and I can’t recommend it highly or widely enough. Just show up when you signed up, then do what they tell you; it’s so easy (mentally)!

It’s easy to stay on track with this ever changing workout. Berkeley is a great studio because the classes are small. Noah is consistent and gives great adjustments. Jazon is fun and silly. Alex is very positive but encourages you to push yourself. Give it a try… the first class is free.

I really thought I would never be someone who kept a gym routine, but since starting at OrangeTheory I’ve been going twice weekly for about a year! I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it and how easy i found it to stay motivated (truly I could never ever motivate myself to go to a normal gym).
The coaches and staff are all really nice, and I find this location in particular to be really comfortable and relaxed, and a little more spacious than other OrangeTheory gyms I’ve been to. I love that they have classes throughout the day too, making it very easy to fit my schedule.
Some people think OrangeTheory is expensive but I think it’s totally worth it for the class/training format that it provides. Besides, previously I was paying $50/month for a gym I never used, so paying $139/month for a gym I actually want to go to seems well worth it. :) I’m a total OrangeTheory convert!

I've been going for about a year. Clean facilities, friendly staff. A little crowded sometimes on the floor, but classmates are friendly and accommodate - this may actually be part of the strategy to build community! Coaches do give pointers for the strength exercises but what was the best here was Noah gave a (free!) lifting heavy workshop that had a bunch of specific technique details that there's not time for in the regular class. I'm looking forward to implementing!

Went to my first ever OTF Christmas Eve workout with my mom and sister. Coach Alex was very cheerful and welcoming! The check-in and locker storage area are squeezed a little tight, but overall nice location and a lovely, HIIT workout!

I don't understand why they are so secretive about their offering. Their website gives no details, so I had to read Google reviews to get information about their classes. It does not look like they have what normal gyms would have, which is a set of machines to practice on your own, group classes (not just their orange thing which reportedly includes 30 minutes of treadmill that I am not going to do because I prefer to run outside) and maybe even a swimming pool. I wish they were upfront about their offering, it would be less disappointing that you have to physically go there and face the onslaught of the sales pitch.

I LOVE this place!! The team is really great- so upbeat and helpful- from the desk staff to the coaches, everyone is friendly. They were especially awesome during the DriTri challenge- they put in a lot of effort to decorate the studio and cheer you on. I’ll be really bummed if this place ever goes away! I joined Orangetheory Berkeley in Oct 2022 and have been a regular since. As I’m older, I wasn’t sure initially if this would be a good fit. I discovered all ages are welcome! I like the inclusive, friendly, helpful vibe from the manager Van, to the front desk staff, to the coaches. The coaches also invite us to let them know anytime if we need adjustments to any part of the workout. We are invited to both challenge and pace ourselves. While all the coaches I’ve experienced are good, my current favorite classes are coached by Jazon and Noah.

Coach Shantel is simply the best! She is the reason I joined and keep coming back. She is constantly motivating throughout the entire class. The motivation she uses has crept into my everyday life, and I'm not mad about it. Coach Jenna is another amazing coach who pays great attention to everyone's form. She is incredibly knowledgeable and I appreciate all the advice she gives. I try to take each class that these two are coaching and I encourage others to do the same.

Also just want to make a special shout out to Coach Jenna. She did a workshop for rowing and the technique and coaching helped me take 10 seconds off of my time! I try to take her classes as much as I can. I find her attention to form to be unmatched and have always felt very supported and encouraged by her. She has great energy and her playlists are solid!

I did not find it worth the price for the following reasons:
- For a group coaching gym, places like F45 or Sweat and Health + Fitness are more organized in timing the workouts and coaches provide more guidance and constantly check your posture.
- I do not like that all classes have 1/2 time in the treadmill. After one month it feels repetitive.
- Amenities are much better at other gyms with similar price. For example, better shampoo brands at other gyms, free towel service, cleaner shower rooms.
- Limited schedule, if you go to other luxury gyms that cost the same you can get group coaching classes and free access to the gym if the class schedule does not work for you.
- They market “trial month” as one month basis but they sneakily tie you into two months.
- One pro: staff are nice.
Overall not worth the hype. I would rather do Equinox, Sweat and Health + Fitness, or F45z

What a fabulous day with OTF. We were celebrating two very special birthdays and 60 years of friendship. Dawn was wonderful in the pre-trip planning listening to our wish list and then ensuring we would have an experience never to be forgotten. She did not disappoint! We L.O.V.E.D. our day with Nancy (our private guide). Nancy was prompt at pick up and welcome companion, smiling with us throughout the day. She guided us with expert knowledge and stealth navigation, allowing us to seamlessly flow through the day as we explored both the American and Canadian sides of the Falls! It was such joy as we saw the Falls from every angle! Nancy and Dawn truly provided us an experience of a life time and one we won't forget. THANK YOU!

While all the OTF staff at various locations I’ve visited are super nice, the Berkeley team is next level kind, supportive and fun. There’s never a dull work-out. They know your name, and they cheer you on. Each coach has their own style , but I always come away learning something new about exercise and about myself. What a fun way to stay fit :)

I love OTF Berkeley, I’ve been going for years. The staff is friendly and engaged, and the coaches really try to make working out fun and safe (which as anybody who goes to a gym knows, working out is not always fun, and sometimes being surrounded by friendly people is the difference between going to the gym and staying on the couch.) If you need help getting motivated to improve your health, consider OTF. They plan all the workouts, you just show up.

It took me forever to get the courage to try Orangetheory because I thought everyone would be in great shape and I'd stick out like a sore thumb because I'm not. Welp, I was wrong. People of all fitness levels go there and NO ONE cares what anyone else is doing! You're really focused on your own workout. Plus, it's kinda dark there which is great. No one wants to work out in fluorescent lighting. The workouts are really challenging but you can definitely modify. The staff is super welcoming and it's a great community. This is not a "bro" type of gym at all, thank god. I've only been going for a week but I'm hooked and highly recommend it.

Small but mighty gym!
I never thought I would be that person who would haul myself out of bed at 5 AM to make it to a 6:15 AM workout and run as fast as I can on a treadmill, but now I can't start my day without it!
The studio assistants at the front desk are always SO friendly and nice, and if you're lucky, the studio manager will bring his friendly dog to greet you. I think all the coaches here are fantastic, but I usually go to Peter and Jazon's classes and always have a great time. Peter always does a great job at motivating me to push myself harder (safely) and if you're lucky, you might catch Jazon's occasional dance move or impromptu karaoke.
I really think that the Orangetheory workout itself is for people of all fitness levels. Even though it's a structured class, there's plenty of room for athletes and couch potatoes (not unlike your dear reviewer) to get a challenging workout that's also doable.
I think that just looking at the membership at Orangetheory Berkeley reflects that. You'll work out along side marathon runners, people who haven't run a mile since middle school, college students, working professionals and parents and grandparents. There's no judgment or an elite click of mean girls, we're all there to get a good workout and have fun because we all have the same bizarre idea of fun.
So show up, give it a chance, and maybe you'll find out that you can sing "Sweet Caroline" while running 7 MPH!

If you’re looking for a new workout or looking to get back into working out, OT Berkeley is absolutely fantastic. Coaches and support staff are fabulous, attentive, and just a pleasure to be around. That energy is clear all the way up to the store manager, Lee, who is also super kind and accommodating.
As someone who struggled to create a regular workout schedule for years, OT Berkeley’s class availability, variety, and vibe has really turned me around! The OT team has, for me, revived the joy and fun of working out (and working hard!).
Fave classes are the Monday and Wednesday afternoon classes with Malcolm, but all the coaches are amazing.
If you’re considering signing up for OT, this is your sign to do it!

If you're thinking about checking out Orangetheory and especially the Berkeley studio, don't hesitate. It's awesome and it's worth it. I've been going for almost a year with an unlimited membership because of the warm management and staff, supportive friendly coaches, and high-quality, varied classes on equipment where you get your own station as you rotate through the room on treadmills, WaterRowers, TRX and weights.
Orangetheory is an effective, heart-based high-intensity interval training (HIIT) group workout led by well-trained coaches with high-energy music. I particularly like the community vibe of the brand and feeling like I am a part of something where I can join challenges and measure my progress with all the data that's recorded and stored in my app,
Shout out to studio manager Lee and all the amazing coaches (can't go wrong with Malcom, Jazon, Beth and Peter) for being so helpful and encouraging. I've never had a regular fitness routine and started from an almost sedentary point in my life, and now I am comfortable running full treadmill blocks, challenging myself with my rowing distances and times, and realized I love lifting heavy weights. My mental health has drastically improved, as well as my resting heart rate, cardio fitness, muscle strength and overall health. The habit has changed my life and class is usually the best part of my day.
If you're thinking to yourself it's expensive and wondering if it's worth it, think of it this way: you could pay super cheap for a box gym and get no attention, or an exorbitant amount of money for a personal trainer and individualized attention. Orangetheory is the perfect midpoint for me: the per-class cost is very reasonable when I come 3x a week or more and I get the group energy, a coach, the workout is planned and designed for us, and dedicated equipment. I wouldn't get this kind of workout or progress on my own.
If you're wondering if you're too-whatever (out of shape, old, weak, slow) -- it's still for you. The workouts are for all levels, and you take it at your pace -- the coaches will even offer modifications.
And if you're wondering if you'll lose weight -- that comes primarily from nutrition. But, there's a great domino effect from wanting to eat right to fuel those faster runs and heavier weights that results in overall health improvements from better habits and decisions, and all those things combined have helped me bring my weight down and get stronger.
Just go -- and stick with it! From a genuinely grateful member.

Disappointing experience with management.
If you sign a 6 month contract, it will automatically roll over into a month to month at the end of the 6 months - even though you signed a 6 month contract. You will receive no info explaining this or the fact that you need to cancel your contract before 30 days of the 6 months completion(even though you signed a 6 month contract).

Everyone from the front desk staff to the instructor was very supportive and I enjoyed working out at my own pace yet still challenging myself. I bought a membership because I honestly felt like part of an Orangetheory family upon walking in and someone was there to check up on me throughout the class to make sure I was doing alright. Janese and Chazz (works the front desk) were very helpful in making sure I knew the system and Brandon (instructor) had some great music and good vibes all around. Looking forward to my next workout!!

One year in, the results have been more transformative than I could've imagined: When I first joined, I had just recovered from a bike accident, and was very out of shape - I struggled to maintain base power walking speeds (~4 mph), and I needed long breaks between weight training sets. In the past month, I've set lifetime personal lifetime records for mile time (sub-6 minute), bench presses, weighted squats, and treadmill inclines at all-out speeds. I've lost a lot of weight and feel great!
OTF is fun, challenging and highly scalable to individual workout needs, the workouts change every day, and the team is very friendly.
I can't stop gushing about OTF to my friends, and I've convinced several friends to try OTF - and at least four have since become members.

The staff was so accommodating and welcoming from the moment I stepped in the studio. It was my first time at an OTF studio, and I never felt out of place for a moment! The front desk staff, specifically Lau, made sure I knew what was going on, made sure all my paperwork was up to date. I would absolutely recommend the Berkeley studio to a friend!

OT Berkeley provides challenging-High Intensity workouts in a coaching environment. Awesome trainers. but if you are in Lafayette, CA OT, check out OT trainer-coach, Brandon Thompson. Incredible traininer--keeps the intensity up. keeps you motivated....and takes time to show proper form for each exercise.
