I recently cancelled my membership after being a member for 3 years. To begin with, the studio floors and equipment are outdated. Their floors are crumbly and it hurts to stretch without a mat. On top of that, some mats are falling apart and I saw a resistance band snap in half on someone during a workout because of how old it was. Rowers and treadmills are constantly down and at times they do not detect my OTF heartrate monitor device. Another main reason I canceled is because, as a Latina, I no longer feel represented at the studio as there are currently no permanent Latino/a coaches. Additionally, many of my favorite coaches (Kaymi, Shelby, Jake, Joe, Suzy, and Valentine) have left over the years and the high turnover has made it difficult to feel the same sense of community and belonging that I once did. I am especially saddened and upset about Coach Kaymi's unplanned, abrupt, and sudden departure. She was the reason I stayed, even after some of my other favorite coaches left. Her departure ultimately pushed me to make this decision. She is an amazing coach and I know OTFDTLA will not be the same without her. OTF DTLA needs to reevaluate their management team because they keep losing great coaches. I will be taking my business to another fitness studio.

This studio really amazed me. It has been a while since I walked into a studio that impressed me this much. Out of almost forty studios I have visited, this is definitely my favorite in the Los Angeles area.

Being in such a corporate concrete setting, I expected the people to reflect that same vibe, but it was the complete opposite. Everyone I met was kind and welcoming. The front desk team I interacted with at different times were all super friendly.

My first experience was actually over the phone when I called to figure out parking. Madison went above and beyond by texting me clear directions along with a visual graphic and a YouTube link, which made finding the parking structure so easy. She was so nice and helpful. Jace and Danny were also great and very welcoming. (Thanks for the recs Danny)

It was a nice surprise to find Tesla chargers in the parking structure so I could charge while working out. I took several classes during my visit to Los Angeles and had Jasmine and Dave as instructors. Both were incredible. Their music selection was great and their coaching styles were motivating and fun.

To the manager, I have to say you are doing something right. Your team truly makes this studio stand out. This is the vibe. I do not think I will go to any other studio when I am in town. I have officially found my home studio away from home in Los Angeles.

STAY AWAY!!! For over three years and 1,000+ classes, I was a loyal member of this location until the gym went downhill under new management, and I had to terminate my membership. The current General Manager Shannen is an absolute volatile human being. There have been consistent occasions where she has been vile and condescending to paying members, her staff and even the coaches. Unfortunately, the toxic work environment she created has chased out the best coaches the gym once possessed, and the studio is left with mediocre and unmotivating workouts. The culture is so sour that it is not worth your investment to attend. The owner of the location is even worse. She refuses to invest in improvements to gym like adequately fixing the gym floor, which is old and disgusting. You will leave the workout with black knees and floor particles all over your hands. Broken and out-of-order equipment is a frequent occurrence at this location too. I would definitely recommend pursuing one of the many other gyms in downtown LA for your fitness needs. And if it's Orangetheory Fitness that you're interested in specifically, I would suggest trying one of the surrounding locations like Koreatown, Hollywood or Glendale, as those studios are under different ownership/management and by far a superior experience than what Orangetheory Downtown LA now has to offer.

Canceled my membership today may 28 2025 because the rude ladie manager! Do I have to say a name? It’s a dark bad ladie person ! She is not even good person to manage and run this place!

I inquired online over the weekend regarding trying out OTF and I received a call this morning regarding a free introductory class. Out of nowhere the guy asks for my credit card information over the phone for a free class. I asked if I could try the FREE CLASS without providing a credit card he said no and basically refused to book my reservation. I would be very cautious about trying a place like this so beware folks. He was initially nice at first but, immediately changed his tone once I refused to give my credit card info over the phone.

Ive been a member for over a year now and even referred a couple of my friends to this place. Coaches are great. However, I just cancelled my membership because of Shannon. She’s supposed to be customer care and yet took days to reply to my emails and was horrible with “customer care”.

I originally froze my cycle due to an injury and when I needed to extend the freeze Shannon didn't reply to my email for a week resulting in a new cycle. My classes from my previous cycle was gone.
When I finally got a hold of her via phone, she told me I needed a doctors note to extend the freeze and I couldn’t get back my previous classes not even partially and that I was told this by Mia in the previous email (I read the email and theres no mention of this). Had she replied on time I prob would’ve gotten a doctors note in time and I prob would’ve used my leftover classes so they don't go to waste.
She was cold and condescending which left an even worse experience.
I also spoke to Jerry on the phone when I couldn't reach Shannon and he was much nicer and helpful. However he said he would get back to me about the leftover classes and he never did.

Just overall a very bad experience. So many emails that never got replied to and I had to call multiple times cause Shannon was never in the office.

I really enjoyed my work out at the DTLA location. This was my second OT workout and my first in the DTLA studio.

The concept is easy to understand, you do a mix of cardio and strength training, and you go at your own pace. The equipment, music, lighting, and ventilation makes the workout so enjoyable. There are restrooms, showers, lockers and some toiletries available for use.

Coach Shelby was super nice, attentive and encouraging, at some point she came by and coached me on my form which is highly appreciated.

I’ll be retuning for sure.

Fiancé and I joined a year ago after recommendation from a work friend and this place has seriously changed our lives! Enough can't be said about just showing up and letting the coaches lead your workout and inspire you to be better. I've been a member of many different fitness centers from typical LA Fitness/24 hr fitness gyms to CrossFit studios and nothing has motivated me as much as this OTF studio.

Jake, Rafa, Kaymi, Anissa, Joe, Shelby, and Dave are coaches/staff we regularly interact with and they're always upbeat, friendly, and inspiring.

I'm relatively new to OT, having signed up less than a month ago. While I'm familiar with what my Fort Lauderdale studio offers, my recent visit to the DTLA location on Sunday, April 14th, 2024 was a delightful surprise.

First impressions matter, and the studio's cleanliness and spaciousness immediately caught my attention. Compared to my home studio, it felt quite expansive, though perhaps that's just the effect of DTLA's towering architecture. Nevertheless, I found the ambiance quite appealing.

The staff, particularly Rafael and Jocelyn at the front desk, were exceptional. Their warm welcome made me feel right at home, despite being in unfamiliar surroundings. Navigating a new environment can be daunting, but their friendly demeanor eased any apprehensions. I appreciated their transparency regarding fees, especially since my home studio had forewarned me about potential differences. Rafael and Jocelyn's careful explanation ensured there were no surprises, a detail I found considerate.

Meeting Coach Joe was a highlight of the experience. Despite his initially intimidating appearance, he proved to be incredibly personable and attentive. His willingness to guide and demonstrate workouts alleviated any uncertainties I had. Though seeking assistance can sometimes feel embarrassing, Coach Joe's approachability made it a non-issue. His infectious energy elevated the class, motivating me to push through the workout. While the music selection didn't quite match my preferences, Coach Joe's encouragement kept me engaged and focused.

Overall, my experience at the DTLA studio was highly enjoyable. The exceptional OT team made me feel welcome, and I look forward to returning during future trips to LA.

I go to both ktown and downtown OT. For downtown, I wish there also is 3G class and the music playlist to have hiphop / African American music. It seems like the playlists are often the same - aerobic mix. Also, compared to ktown, the facility isn't super great - lockers are not working and rowing machines look a bit older.

Two main reasons why I am avoiding this OTF studio and decided to cancel my membership.

1. Honestly, for being a “premium” studio; it’s outdated, the owner refuses to make any upgrades. From the treadmills that only go up to a speed of 12 (when all premium OTF studios have newer treadmills with 15 speed and bigger screens for more insight on individual performance), outdated rowing machines (again, owner refuses to upgrade to newer rowers with individual monitors that track performance), to the floor with benches that aren’t the OTF standard, and floors that are nearly impossible to do exercise in because it’s pebbled and leaves residue (it’s so bad there are uneven areas throughout).

2. Secondly, I have been a member for some time now, but in the last few months a new head coach, name rhymes with Jamie… just has not been the best in my opinion. I was doing one of the tread-blocks and wasn’t feeling too comfortable so decided to take it easy - this coach then approaches me and makes an uncomfortable and unprofessional comment about how I should be working out. Truly in disbelieve because I’ve always been able to work at my pace and do alternatives on the treadmill - I understand being pushed and encouraged to be the best version of yourself but the comment just didn’t sit right with me. I’ve avoided taking “Jamie’s” class ever since. This wasn’t just my experience; I know a handful of members that have avoided taking her class. They either go to other studios or have cancelled their longtime memberships because of the hostile environment “Jamie” creates.

Lastly, I would encourage you take a class if you’ve never done so (there are several outstanding coaches: Suzy, Luciana, Jake, Joei, Joe, Josh, and Sara) and staff in this studio — except for “Jamie”) it’s just unfortunate that the head coach has failed to present a professional and welcoming environment. Do keep your options open to other newer studios (they’re all within walking distance - from F45, Equinox, Camp, Soul Cycle).

Update: I signed up a new potential customer who wanted to try out orange theory for a class at 6:30. We arrived at 6:12 and the studio manager said there was not enough time to onboard - however my friend had already filled out the liability waivers online.

Did not understand why since there were 3 people at the desk, just chilling.

Barry’s for example doesn’t have any of this non sense - you bring a friend - they go right in.

Really bad customer experience here - your studio manager is literally throwing away potential customers when classes are not fully booked.

Studio floors are cracked and generally equipment is not well maintained. In addition the studio manager (Crystal) is less than friendly and took vicarious pleasure in not letting me in because in her clock, I was 5 seconds over time (I was a minute within time according to my clock which is synced every day).

In addition, basic bathroom supplies are not available such as workout bags etc.

Definitely does not justify a ‘select studio’ rating.

Disclosure: I've known the owner of this location for many years. She was my favorite coach back when she was a working at another franchise before opening her own. She helped me gain confidence and actually enjoy the experience of a HIIT class. However, this review is on my own accord and radically honest.

I travel throughout SoCal for work and visit many locations. OTF-DTLA is still the best location - my home studio is a very close second. DTLA wins IMO because they still provide shower towels and the garage has free EV charging.

I read a few negative reviews with absurd claims of "cracked floors" and safety issues. False claims really bother me because I work as independent contractor and understand what that's like. So ... I'd like to respond to those claims. All OTF locations have the same flooring because all franchises follow the corporate design guidelines. The flooring is a modular system, which I assume is sourced from one supplier, at least for the west coast. Also, there's nothing wrong with the equipment. The only improvement would adding the tablets to the rowing machines, but very few locations have that feature, so it's not that big of a deal.

Back to safety. I say this in an endearing manner; the owner of OTF-DTLA is a stickler for safety. It's one of the reasons she was my favorite coach. She assertively and politely corrected members, especially when their behavior on the treadmills endangered others. "Don't jump the rails! Thank you!".

Lastly, I recently visited OTF-DTLA and attended coach Caitlin's class. She's great! I loved her style of coaching and her music selection. I'm hoping to find time to attend her classes more often.

Before the workout there's a thorough explanation of what to expect. The "why" behind the "how" is very important and most people don't get that, even in basic education towards all learning. The utilization of the equipment isn't just demonstrated, you're watched trying it to make sure you grasped what was shown and explained. And the best part is it's curated and even though there are more people in room doing the workout, you feel like you have a personal trainer who's situationally aware of you. I loved it, and the next day, every muscle used let me know how important consistent workouts, other than walking are. I highly recommend Orange Theory. At least check it out in assessing what's best for you as an individual.

I joined as a founding member in 2017 and anxiously awaited the opening. I had previously been a member at the Melrose location, which I loved, but had a tough time getting myself into a routine. Everything changed with the DTLA location. I work downtown, making it simple to stick to some sort of schedule. First off, let me say, of all the OTF studios I have tried, DTLA is my absolute FAVORITE! Super great coaches, staff, and attendees. I stick to a pretty consistent schedule, so have gotten to know many people I take class with. The environment is friendly, supportive and fun. And, includes people of all fitness levels.

The workouts, well, they are fantastic! You get out of them what you put into them...but if you keep pushing yourself and improving the results can't be beat! I started a year ago at 125lbs and am now 110lbs of what feels like solid lean muscle. I never thought I could be much of a runner, but ran a 7min mile a few weeks ago for the first time in my life! That was an exciting moment for me.

Don't wait to get into better shape to try it, just come in and work from where you are. It will change your life and maybe even get you addicted to fitness! What can be bad about that?

Big fat scam.

I signed up for the Premiere plan thinking I'd be able to use it both here and in the Silicon Valley since I go back and forth, but that ended up not being the case because other gyms wouldn't accept a plan from the DTLA location. The Premiere plan is very expensive, but also the only plan that lets you use the gym regularly as the next one down only gives you 8 gym sessions per month. You also need to buy a $100+ workout band to take full advantage of OrangeTheory's system. This is in addition to the $89 initiation fee and the $189 initial membership payment, so be ready to shell out the cash right from the start.

You have to register/schedule your workouts and there is a cancellation fee within 8 hours of the workout, which gets very annoying (and expensive) if you've hard a longer than anticipated night here and there. The closer you get to the workout you want to schedule, the more likely you'll end up on a waiting list with an uncertainty of whether you'll actually be able to workout or not in the gym you're paying for right up to the last minute. The gym routines are random and decided by the instructor, so if you have a certain area of physical health you'd like to focus on, they don't care; you'll just be doing whatever they tell you to, even if you don't need it. This is not a mass or strength building gym, their workouts are mostly all based around cardio and endurance. Classes are 60 minutes long, so hopefully you don't need more or less than that. They blast whatever music they like (and I mean blast, they even have a bowl of earplugs at the front), so don't bring your headphones. Some instructors give clear direction, but many just mumble, so be prepared to be very confused about what it is you're supposed to be doing. There are two showers and two bathrooms which will be in use 24/7, so don't plan on this gym having facilities for you beside the gym itself.

The kicker that got me the most was that when you sign up for one month of membership, you automatically pay for the next month since they require a 30day minimum notice of membership cancellation. In other words, when you decide to cancel your membership at any given point in time, they force you to pay the next month of membership even if though they know you don't want or need it.

All in all, OrangeTheory was a $500+ mistake that I will never make again. Please just go to the YMCA or 24hr Fitness where you can go to the gym whenever you want without fees, choose your own workout routine, decide on a workout duration that works for you, take intimate free classes that are included in the membership, have access to more equipment and facilities, pay exponentially less, and not get royally screwed over if you decide to leave.

Orangetheory is engaging from start to finish. It's for people like me who don't like the gym because we feel out of place, and kind of lost. The community of trainers and members is great. Facility at the DTLA location is always nice, hope it stays that way.

As someone who never really loved working out, I surprisingly love these classes...the structure makes things interesting, always new, but always challenging. And all the class coaches I've had here are great - high energy and really fun. Coach Spencer is awesome - often gets the whole class smiling and high-five-ing. The happy vibes are infectious.

I love the music, instructors (Kailey, Whitney, Spencer, and Trent are my favs), and the workouts continually switch up what we're doing so it never gets boring. I love that I don't have to worry about what I'm going to do at the gym, I just show up and get a great workout!

A strenuous and diversified workout. Gene is a very motivational instructor. A range of ages in the class (I’m at the older end), but the group is friendly and the workout is suitable for all of us.

I have never been a fan of lifting weights or going to the gym for that matter. I did a trial class when the DTLA studio first opened and have been coming ever since. Going to Orangetheory is now always a highlight of my week; Whitney and her team are amazing and provide amazing customer service. Thank you!!

LOVE this place!! It’s an intense 50 minutes but when you leave you feel amazing. I love seeing my stats on the OTF Beat app post workout. It makes it really easy to track progress. Dana, Whitney and Gene are my top 3 picks when it comes to coaches - but all the instructors are great! This is my favorite location to go to in the city. Parking is in the garage right next door and they validate 90 minutes. Highly recommend!

I’m a SoFla OT member and my flight was delayed so I was able to squeeze an 8:30am Saturday class before heading to the airport. The staff was so friendly and nice! Gene was an energetic Coach who did a great job! I hope to be back soon!

Hands down, the best $ I spend every month!!!

OTF is the only gym I will go to! Their coaches are so kind, their clientele diverse.. young, old, fit, not-so-fit, gay, straight, and everyone in between. They make us all feel like family!

For me, I have several injuries and am overweight. I feel like I belong there just as much as the competitive athletes that train right beside me. Since the workouts are modified for each person's required intensity, we all get kick-ass workouts, despite our different fitness levels!

100% of the time, the coaches encourage me when I want to give up or feel hopeless. That take time to show me alternative exercises that better suit my needs (darn tendinitis and calf tear)! They even call or email me when I go MIA for a few weeks to make sure I'm okay (seriously, who does that?!? Most gyms are happy when you pay them and don't show up).

I jus stumbled upon this place when I was going to get coffee... I hope you try out a class (usually free at first) and have the same wonderful experiences that I have.

Awesome coaches but the management leaves a lot to be desired. Instead of helping me and a few other members with potentially malfunctioning equipment, they took an argumentative approach and pushed us out the door. May be overwhelmed with the grand opening but les hope the attitudes change in the future.
