I only went to this OTF once because my fave coach, coach Garmen, from La Cañada was scheduled here on an evening I could go out of my way to pop into her class. Love this facility. Wish I lived closer to this location, but I went to see my fave coach and it was my first time on the new treadmills and it was a fantastic workout! The energy in this location from the coach and the members was so exciting! Definitely recommend checking out this OTF & trying a class with Garmen!!

I was visiting and staying with friends near the Pasadena OTF, so I signed up for a morning class with Coach Cara. She was so welcoming! Loved her energy and her instructions were great. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

I tried a class and I didn’t like it at all. You have to keep wiping down the machines the whole class and the coach we had seemed kinda controlling .. wait for this, wait for that, don’t leave your weight right there. So annoying! The vibes were whack!

THANKS FOR THE RED FLAG... I didn't even go... they offer a free first class, and the website says as long as you live or work in the area. Well, apparently it's only if you live in the area despite what the website says. I can understand they may have a policy, however, the person on the phone had a terrible attitude. You have to have a piece of mail. Honestly, I could have provided proof but why would I want to give my money to such a horrible, rude business?

Clearly, they are not interested in new customers. If you're new, go somewhere else. There are some lovely other places I've been to in the area - sticking to those!

Update:
On 1/28 clients were allowed to enter past the “strict cut off” while I was denied a few days earlier. 2/8 tech was down for entire class (no screens with exercises or performance tracking) and front desk showed up 45 mins late. The coach truly did the best that she could on her own. Showers are broken and dirty. Clearly management doesn’t have a grasp on its inconsistent policy or operation. Worst location I’ve been to in the US.

Coaches are strong. Customer service is horrible. On 1//21 Liz and Ramzi didn’t let me enter class because I was 11 seconds past the cut off for class entry and turned me away. It feels like the staff don’t have your back. As a regular, I’m so disappointed. I’ve been to 10 locations across the US and have never had to have such an unreasonable conversation with the front desk (while staring at a timer with staff and talking about the significance of 11 seconds).

Took a class on Super Bowl Sunday after a year of not taking classes. I was super excited to come back into the studio since it had been so long and I was so disappointed with the customer service at the front desk.
When I was asked where I wanted to start I stated wherever I will end with the treadmill. The person at the front desk said she couldn’t tell me and I was confused. After a little back and forth the coach of the class had to come in and explain there was a theme workout where everything was random. I had no idea that was the case and chose to start wherever since it didn’t matter. I didn’t understand why the person at the front desk didn’t just say that to begin with instead of confusing me and being rude to begin with. After she told me my number she was shaking her head as though having this conversation was a burden on her.

I used to come to this studio so often and was so excited to get back into it, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back after this experience

The coaches are great and make the workouts fun. By scheduling classes OTF keeps me accountable to actually going to the gym which was a major problem with other gym memberships since I’d tell myself I’d go and when it came time to go I’d make excuses for myself.

Update 2 years later… still the most fun workout and longest I’ve been able to commit to a gym.

They don’t accommodate and all they want is charging you fees. Compared to other Orange theory locations, Pasadena is the worst. Its not as clean. Bathrooms and showers are not neat. They don’t even have tissues or any napkins that you can use. All they want is you buy water, napkins from them. Do not use this branch!!
Their customer service is terrible and they just want to charge you!

Not letting me in for being 4 min late to the orientation secession. Even if assuming it’s a restrict policy, the staff must be trained to at least “fake” it that they care about customer satisfaction and not treating customers with zero interest in retaining their business.
I hope the business owner reads this review.
Almost the worse customer experience EVER!

I showed up 4 minutes late exactly and the woman at the counter wouldn’t let me in because I was “past the 5 minute late mark” And she talked about the policy, liabilities etc, I said I was still within the 5 minute mark and held up my phone to show the time. She said it’s doesn’t matter because I would need to be ready to go within the 5 minutes, I told her I was ready, and she said “now it’s 5 minutes and 30 seconds”. I will never go back to this location.

The actual gym is pretty average, but the smell of the building is terrible. It smells awful (like sour bananas or eggs and more than likely mold). The building is also extremely warm in certain spots of the floor. I have literally never been in a OT class where I was so hot I felt like I couldn’t complete the workout. I pressed through of course, but it was not a good experience. Between the warm temperatures of the room and the HORRIBLE smell I more than likely won’t return. The need for a new building should be top priority. The building is certainly not up to code, I can’t imagine what I was breathing in while working out, smh. (customer service was OK, nothing over the top or above and beyond, but certainly not bad either) The instructor was pretty good as well.

First of all, this location has way more members signed up than class spots that they have to offer. There are always super long wait lists (sometimes 15-20 people) for the classes. You can put yourself on a waitlist and sometimes you’ll get into the class and other times not. It makes it extremely hard to plan your day not knowing if you’ll actually get to workout for the time you are waitlisted for. It’s not uncommon to be placed on a waitlist and get a notification an hour or two before class that I’m now accepted into the class.

The workouts are ok. Nothing special. They can become a bit monotonous. Same with the instructors. I didn’t find any particularly motivating or outstanding. They are more just following a pre-programmed workout that was handed to them. Members are just fixated on their splat points and going hardcore, all out with very little attention paid to proper form.

Lastly, BEWARE of the contract that you are signing up for. This place has been designed to lock you in, get your money, and make it difficult for you to quit. Making money is their main focus rather than actually helping you achieve your health and fitness goals. I decided to come here to return to exercise after surgery. After notifying multiple instructors of my physical limitations (nothing high-impact, no sit-ups, no planks), most gave me very little modifications. After one week of workouts, I decided that this place was not a good fit for me. They wouldn’t let me out of the contract. I offered to pay for the individual classes I had taken. Still nope. They went ahead and charged me for 2 months because even when you want to cancel they make you pay for another month. There was no exception for my medical/physical needs even with a doctors note. Pretty disappointing. Very little regard for members’ physical well-being. Don’t recommend coming here.

As with most OTF negative reviews, most of the critique is about the policies for lateness and canceling and not the workout. So, if you are a card-carrying OTF cult member and have mastered the schedule and class process, OTF Pasadena holds its own with all other studios.

This will be my home studio for a few months while I have a work project in Southern California, so I was glad to find one so close to where I'm staying. Cara and Leslie are great coaches and I expect the rest are as well. There is plenty of street parking around the studio and the staff is helpful.

As far as the studio layout it is a long, narrow gym, so Lift 45s can be a little tight. It is not a big deal, just be prepared to get cozy and be willing to shift around to where there is open space.

Love orange theory and the staff..if you visit different studios you will see the difference in layouts /space. I’ve been going to OTF for 2+ years, and I travel quite a bit so I’ve been to a lot of different studios and sadly this OTF was underwhelming for me. I brought my parents here and it was only their second class ever. They are very new to OTF and to the world of fitness in general but the coach was very negligent. I want to offer some points of improvement for her:

- Be more attentive. When my mom was clearly confused on what to do on the rowers, and trying to get the coach’s attention, she couldn’t. I explained it for my mom.

- Better timing. When rowers were moving to the weight floor the coach was already demoing before several people had even made it over. This can be confusing for “noobies” and cause them to miss very important information like proper form!

- Provide more guidance on form. Both my parents needed form-correcting on the rowers and the weight floor. I even gave the coach time to step in but she didn’t. So I corrected them.

- Be more ATTENTIVE. Again. My mom obviously was looking to lower the bench and fiddling with it for a solid 2 minutes. But the coach was again unreceptive. I needed to do it for her.

- More positive energy. I understand this is subjective so take it with a grain of salt but the coach seemed very disconnected and cold. She didn’t show interest in how either of my parents were doing or stop over and check in on them. I also never saw her smile.

- Be more informative. The coach never explained splat points, calories, or the muscles being targeted when doing certain exercises.

- Lower the music when you’re talking. This is self explanatory but to be pedantic, when you are explaining an exercise, just lower the music a little bit. When you’re done, crank it back up. It will do wonders for your clarity.

- Be more ATTENTIVE. Again. On my dad’s row station he didn’t even have a medicine ball. We had to trade off between mine and my moms while one of us (hopefully) was still rowing. I went searching for more medicine balls, and we were trading off right in front of her but she didn’t give a hoot.

- I’ve already said it 3 times....When my dad’s tread station touch screen was off I had to flag the coach down to get someone to fix it. She literally walked right behind his station and didn’t do a thing. Very frustrating.

I get that for a class full of regulars, a lot of this is a moot point. Most of us are autonomous and can figure it out. But I also don’t think that should be used as an excuse/crutch to avoid going that extra mile as a coach every time. Every other studio I’ve been to the coaches have nailed it. Every single one of those points above. Regardless of the demographic. This was the first time I felt disgruntled during a workout. I was doing everything for my parents that the coach should have been doing.

On a positive note, the front staff were amazing. They were accommodating and kind. Specifically Cassandra. She was very helpful when trying to book me, my girlfriend, and several intros amidst a wild scheduling nightmare. And when we got in and met Ali she was also very friendly and helpful.

Additionally, the facility overall was clean and well kept. I will always highly recommend OTF. It works. Just sometimes the coaches...don’t. Pasadena studio is super packed. If you’re looking to get into OTF and having trouble getting a class at Pasadena, start with Glendale.

Orangetheory Fitness Pasadena allows for one to get their workout in while having fun and not having to think about what exercise to do next. The different challenges that are offered almost monthly allow for additional ways to motivate oneself to consistently attend the classes. The coaches are excellent at motivating everyone to do their best while providing feedback on form to ensure that they are not only doing the exercises properly, but also so that they do not get hurt. I am confident that when I walk into Orangetheory, I will get a solid 60 minutes of continuous exercise while giving it my all because of the coaches. Orangetheory helped me build extreme endurance while training for a marathon, which in turn allowed me to shave more than an hour off my time! I highly recommend this program to anyone who is looking for a change in their fitness journey with visible results!

I love how it's interval/circuit based and how each day is different. Same machines/equipment, but a whole new workout for my body.

I also love the HR monitor based program as it pushes you to challenge yourself further and also makes you compete with yourself more than with the class. Everyone is in a different place in their fitness journey and being able to see where your HR is at, really helps with that.

And AMEN to the fact y'all do a cool down/stretch for 5 minutes at the end. So many studios just let people leave but that's where I believe most of the injury comes from, is not stretching. Just absolutely love this studio and haven't been able to stop talking about it!

Workout-5
OTF is one of the best workouts in town! I've been attending OTF Pasadena since March 2016, and haven't done the same workout twice. I am always challenged during my hour at the gym, and time seems to fly during the class due to the great music and energizing workouts. I have become stronger from these workouts and can use much heavier weights and complete more reps compared to when I started. My endurance and power have increased on both the treadmill and the water rower, and this improvement is a direct result of my classes at OTF. Also, the instructors are motivating, and make sure everyone is using correct form. Recently, some of the classes I regularly attend have been more crowded than usual so there are 3 groups instead of 2 during the circuit. Even with large classes, the instructors make sure to explain the rotation and exercises to reduce confusion, and they still give individual attention to those that need it.

Products/Technology-4
I like that I can track my progress using the OT Beat app. Classes are scheduled using an app as well, which makes it convenient to schedule and cancel at my convenience. Emails of workout stats are sent directly after class. The heart rate monitors are not free, and there is a fee for borrowing a heart rate monitor during class. I felt like I was being nickled and dimed when I first realized I had to purchase a heart rate monitor to view my real-time stats during class; however, the monitor can be used during workouts outside of OTF with the help of the OT Beat app.

Customer Service-4
I have received good customer service during my time at OTF Pasadena. Kerrie was the first staff member I met, and she has always been courteous and friendly. She is the only staff member that calls me by name. The other staff are also courteous, both in person and over the phone and via email. There are some policies that deserve reading the fine print. For instance, if you sign up for a class package, your account is automatically charged once a month, and 30 days notice is needed prior to cancellation. I believe this cancellation has to be done in the studio. There are also fees associated with cancelling classes with short notice or arriving late (you may lose that class).

Facilities-5
My favorite aspect of this gym are the facilities. The equipment is new. The bathrooms and shower room are clean and well maintained...just make sure you get to class early if you need to change into your workout outfit because there are only 2 bathrooms and 1 shower room. I have been to some other OTF studios, and there is more space in the floor area at OTF Pasadena compared to some other studios, which means less bumping into other patrons during the strength portion of the workout. Parking is ample and I feel safe walking back to my car after night classes.

Overall Rating- 4.5 (but I will round up and give 5 stars)
This is an amazing studio, great workout, and a fun environment to meet new people and inspire your workout journey. I wouldn't keep coming back after so many months (and so much money) if it wasn't worth it!

The reason why I love to come Orangetheory is because of the amazing and knowledgeable trainers. I am constantly amazed with their upbeat attitudes throughout the duration of my workout. The workout itself is incredible. I get cardio and strength all in one. each workout is different every time I come in. I think that is one of Orangetheory's redeeming qualities: it's anything but monotonous
