Update: after climbing here for almost a year, I achieved my goal of topping 100 × V4 boulders! (and 18 × V5)✌️

The best climbing gym I have ever climbed. And also the 1st V4 and V5 sent here. Highly recommend it! Don't forget to watch the video on YouTube from Magnus Mitblo reviewing this gym! Now, it's my family's weekend gym!

Awesome gym! I just wish it wasn't so far away from me! Plenty of climbing to keep you entertained all day, super nice facilities, showers, sauna, friendly staff, the works. I expected the grading to be super soft at such a new gym but it wasn't too bad. Still softer than outdoor grades of course, but way more accurate than someplace like gripstone or movement. Most of the 5.10s felt like they could've had 1/2 the holds taken away and still maintained the grade, but they still had good flow and were fun to climb. The 11s and 12s were all fun challenges and it felt like setters took care to differentiate between the letter grades as well and keep the grading feeling pretty consistent throughout the gym. My only complaint is how hard it is to get a lead test scheduled.

usually have a good experience here, staff are super nice, the one thing is that the children here need to be put under control. setting is not consistent, either it’s a comp set or a ladder and they need to fix this

Super friendly staff. Amazing gym and an awesome environment for anyone trying to get started climbing. Biggest gym in the US with many problems ranging for beginners and experts not sure what the highest grade is but probably a v11.

Started climbing in March or April of 2023. No regrets 😉. Everyone chilling and trying to work together to solve problems is what I think is the coolest thing about the gym. Somewhat packed on weekends and there's a awesome gym area as well.

Day pass is expensive but the climbing gym itself is really good. Sadly, I've seen messages supporting Hamas and or disparaging Israel left up on their wall multiple times. I don't feel comfortable in an environment where this is acceptable.

Lead policy is ridiculous:

"Our lead test is strictly for climbers and belayers who are prepared to pass the test. It is forbidden to use the lead test as a form of practice and violators may be barred from testing in the future."

To practice, need to book $120 sessions. In other words, can't climb here unless you learned elsewhere or can cough up several hundred dollars on top of your membership to take enough classes to get solid on lead.

Love Pac Pipe. Been climbing here for ages.

But there’s one creepy old man who works there. Basically it was near closing time, and the locker I used wasn’t opening. I walked in towels to the front and asked for help. This old dude who works there saw me walking up, dropped everything he was doing, and positioned himself closest to me. I went to the other young man instead. The young man went to help me and I successfully got the locker open. Literally a minute later at 10:02pm, this same old dude worked came into the WOMEN’s LOCKER ROOM as I happened to be walking out. I was very confused why a male employee, not a few minutes after closing time, would already be walking into the women’s locker room. It didn’t seem like standard procedure. Honestly, it felt like he saw me in a towel earlier and was hoping to catch me in the locker room changing. It left me feeling gross and unsafe - and mostly very confused.

Thankfully, there was the other ethnic young man employee there who was nice and respectful. I appreciated his help.

Some of the most unfriendly climbing gym staff that I have met, and I have been to a lot of gyms across the US. Was refused a belay test because I came in during "peak hours" on Saturday even though the gym was actually quite empty. After paying $30 for a day pass (which isn't cheap) I didn't even get to try the lead walls. The facility itself was good, but didn't feel like the staff wanted to really help me at all.

This location has a toxic employee that’s aggressive, unsafe and doesn’t even have the skills to judge. What I witnessed today was an angry human that refused to even identify themselves as an employee. Horrible experience that shamed someone clearly knowledgeable. Zero tolerance for unkind behavior and causing safety issues for their sake of gratification like a parking ticket cop. Avoid at all costs. The management is dismissive and defends the actions of bad hires. Stay away.

My car got vandalized from another gym member in the parking lot. I guess that can happen to anyone but what is not great is that they were 0 helpful despite having cameras and access to the gym members. They were more defensive rather than helpful, despite me not blaming them at all. Tried to talk to the manager in person or by calling for 3 weeks but she was never available…

Gym is good. To the guy with glasses working front desk May 17 between 5:30-6:30pm, gave me so much judgement and attitude for being my 3 cousins’ legal guardian just because I look young? He told me that i’m not “considered” their legal guardian if i’m “not their mom”. Their parent isn’t even in the country, they live with me. Do I have to bring court papers or a dna test just to receive professional etiquette? He could’ve just asked me and my cousins’ for our IDs.

Membership costs are extreme for the benefits they provide. Desk staff were perpetually in a poor mood, condescending and sometimes quite rude. Area resetting schedule is awful for how much you pay for these memberships. Why pay $100 a month when routes are going to be up for 3 months at a time.

Touchstone staff act like they know what they’re talking about when it comes to the belay and lead tests but they obviously do not. They seem like they’ve never climbed ropes before yet are somehow qualified to determine if someone else does. I understand that all staff with experience have left Touchstone, but have some dignity to make sure your staff don’t teach incorrect practices to others.

Started climbing here when it opened in 2021 and have since climbed at gyms and crags all over the place and never once have encountered a place that handles children less responsibly. Regulars talk about it all the time, it's a known issue, and in the span of any of the sparing visits I make back here I see a ridiculous number of close calls with unattended kids on bouldering mats followed from far away by inattentive parents. I'm thankful that this place more or less introduced me to climbing but your gym is massive, understaffed, and you have woefully inadequate orientation for parents of small children.

Pacific Pipe is a great rock climbing gym! It's got great bouldering, top-roping, lead climbing, and a speed climbing setup. It also has standard gym equipment if you don't feel like climbing.

The staff changes up the route regularly and the place is large and has lots of routes to try!

The staff is also very accommodating!

I've been to four different rock climbing gyms, and this is by far the best one!

Pacific Pipe is a great climbing gym that offers a truly excellent experience. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the friendly and efficient staff. Even though there was a line for check-in, it moved quickly and smoothly without feeling rushed, which is a testament to how well-staffed and organized they are. I needed to take a belay test, and that process was equally efficient, organized, and professional.

The climbing itself is fantastic. There's a great variety of climbs to suit all skill levels, and the two floors of bouldering offer a wide range of unique challenges. It was also fun and inspiring to watch some of the expert climbers tackling the more difficult routes. Despite the gym being busy, it never felt overcrowded; there was always plenty of room to climb and move around.

Overall, I had a great experience at Pacific Pipe. The combination of friendly staff, efficient processes, diverse climbing options, and a clean and spacious environment makes it a must-visit for any climber. Highly recommend!

Awesome space, it’s really cool to see a historic building transformed into a climbing gym while maintaining its former skeleton. Staff are a little standoffish, unfortunately (and unsurprisingly, given the sport’s culture). I was visiting in town from the east coast, so of course I didn’t have my gear with me. Upon not seeing any complementary liquid chalk dispensers, which are common in other gyms, I politely asked if there were any. I was met with a “no, but you can *buy* liquid chalk” from one front desk employee, and a “that would get gummy so fast!” from the other, insinuating that it was somehow a silly question (as an aside, who would willingly buy liquid chalk over powdered?) Seems the west coast hasn’t caught up with the times, apparently. Fun routes, though!

Excellent climbing gym! The gym is large, well maintained, and has a wide variety of climbs. The walls have varied topography which keeps climbs interesting. After climbing, I went to purchase a branded t-shirt and tank, and was told by an employee that the clothing was unisex sizing. I didn’t try on the shirt (since I was sweaty from climbing) and when I got back to my hotel, the clothing was clearly women’s sizing.

Went to PP for fitness classes & workshops as part of the free “Fit with Pride” event. Didn’t do any climbing, but the place looks like a climbing mecca with huge spaces for top-roping & bouldering, shoe rental, pro shop gear, locker room w ample showers/towels/sauna. There was even a food truck out front. They have a good yoga room, cardio equipment, an open exercising space, free weights & machines – though Iron Works probably has more weight lifting & strength training options. Bike parking area was generous and bike routes to/from Berkeley/Emryvl/Albany were safe & easy.

Touchstone is like "our places are pretty awesome but I'm sure we could do something bigger and better". So big, yet so chill. Workers all friendly. Love Pacific Pipe. I purchased an intro to bouldering class that was lead by Ovier (i’m not sure how to spell their name). Ovier’s class was extremely insightful. They had a focus on safety tips, climbing etiquette, techniques for beginners. After taking the class I felt confident climbing and working toward my personal goals in bouldering. The class ultimately inspired me to sign up for a membership at Pacific Pipe and Michael was also very welcoming and helpful through that process. Since then I’ve visited all of the touchstone climbing gyms in Oakland, Berkeley, and SF and I have concluded that Pacific Pipe is my favorite gym to climb at. Highly recommend this gym. (Pro tip, climb before 6pm if you want to have a parking spot in their designated lot, else be okay with street parking and a short walk to the gym).

Such a cool gym at this old warehouse/factory! Lots of bouldering, top roping and wonderful staff. It gets really cold inside during the winter though since there is no insulation. Bring a jacket!

One of the coolest rock climbing gyms ever! It’s HUGE and has so many different routes to climb. Spent a couple hours here, it was a ton of fun.

Love this gym. Sooo much terrain and great setting. The grades on the ropes tends to be a little soft.

Best climbing gym around. Sooo much bouldering and the facilities are very nice and clean. I used to go to movement in Santa Clara and recently moved and this gym is a much better deal, the price is similar but Pacific Pipe is a much larger gym. Lots of places to lock your bike. There’s also a taco truck outside a lot of the time (: Love it here!

Bouldering and a lot of rope climbing. Has a coffee area 10-2pm and a sauna. Lots of great weight lifting equipment too!
