Yvonne and Perseverance P.T. is truly a huge step above the other physical therapists in town (sadly I've been to several to compare, but my search for a great one is over! :) Right from the start Yvonne's focus was on all of me, not just my injury. She wanted to understand why I got injured so we could not only heal it, but prevent it from being injured again. She recognized that a previous collar bone injury was impacting the geometry of my shoulder joint causing binding in the joint. We are now working on getting the shoulder to sit where it needs to naturally, through her hands on manipulation and my exercises and stretches at home, I can feel the progress in the right direction. Amazingly, she even encourages me to text her if I have questions between sessions! She is truly one of a kind!

Edit to add - my shoulder issue has long since been resolved, but working from home due to Covid-19 has created other issues. Not having my desk set up as it should be, staying home and not being as active is taking its toll. Yvonne quickly identified what is creating problems with my hip and knee and I know if I follow her directions this problem will be resolved as well. Thanks Yvonne for your help and keeping me able to do the things that are important to me!

I came to Perseverance because I was having chronic lower calf muscle injuries when jogging. This was two and a half years after ACL replacement surgery and when I got back to running following normal recovery my calf muscles would get extremely tight and eventually I would get small pulls/tears and have to take a couple of weeks off. Eventually, I was getting injured every time I tried to run. Yvonne helped me to understand the compensatory motions that I evolved due to the knee pain when starting running again and how those transferred too much shock load to my small lower calf muscle rather than my quadriceps absorbing the heel strike shock.

Yvonne is fantastic at detecting the small motions and compensations that we do that later turn into injuries or pain. I found it immensely helpful to understand what my body is doing so that I can be on the watch for falling back into bad habits as I get back to a normal healthy active life. Yvonne helped me to identify another issue in my lower back following an injury lifting heavy furniture.

It is amazing to me how different things are now after several months of methodically improving muscle and joint flexibility, then strengthening and then movement patterns. I was on the precipice of thinking that my active life was going to be much smaller than it had been, no running, no jumping, just cycling and constant back pain. While the issues still can creep back up, I now have the tools to quickly get them back under control and keep on being active. My experience and outcome from my time with Perseverance has been the best interaction that I have had with any physical therapy, and I have had several previous PT experiences to compare it to. I could not recommend her enough.

Yvonne is a terrific advocate for my overall well-being and her holistic perspective and approach to helping me regain my flexibility, strength and range of motion is just what I need. “Traditional” physical therapy, all too often, focuses on relieving symptoms of a single body part rather than identifying and treating the underlying cause(s). Yvonne has provided me a clear understanding of the causes of the dysfunction in my entire body and a simple plan for a path to wellness. Mind you, simple does not mean easy! It requires commitment and perseverance on my part (and help from Yvonne) to make sustainable change and improvement. I only wish I found her years ago - before an unnecessary and unhelpful surgery and too much ineffective symptom-based PT and medication.

This review is long overdue... Dr. Yvonne Castillo is an excellent physical therapist who uses her knowledge as a physical therapist combined with her pilates training to deliver personalized treatment. I came to her with hip/back pain and severely limited mobility. Within the first few sessions I noticed my posture improved and within weeks I had no pain and improved mobility in my spine and hips. Not only does she address your specific needs, she is constantly educating and informing you for long lasting results. I highly recommend Dr. Yvonne Castillo.

I can honestly say that Yvonne saved me during the middle of my LA Marathon training when all I wanted to do was quit because of the intense knee pain. After the first PT session it was clear that Yvonne was going to help me get back on track! The “homework” exercises and stretches between PT sessions were great as well. In the end I was able to run the marathon pain free! I’m now keeping up with what Yvonne taught me, running a few times a week and training for a half marathon. I am really glad that I made the decision to find some help and I definitely went to the right place. If your hurting from any type of sports injury or just any pain from everyday activities go see Yvonne and you won’t regret it!

Getting physical therapy by Yvonne Castillo has been a huge help in me dealing with IT band issues. I’m glad I went in before eventually causing myself some harm to my knee joints. She has a knack of getting to the root cause of an issue and effectively treats that first. I was impressed by how much the therapy sessions made improvements and also how well she could explain what she was doing and why. Also I did not realize how tight my hamstrings and calves were. Her fixing that, which helped with leg flexibility, was just one of the ways she improved my condition.

I can run and hike with far less knee and hip pain than before. Perhaps most importantly is she equipped me with the knowledge and tools to continually work on preventing IT band pain in the future. I definitely recommend physical therapy for treatment and highly recommend Yvonne if you are looking into physical therapy.

Yvonne is an outstanding Physical Therapist! She has a strong passion for and dedication to helping patients achieve their goals and return to their highest level of function. My colleagues from Stanford Orthopaedics have repeatedly referred their SB-based high level athletes to her for post-op rehab because of how confident they are in her ability to help patients optimize their outcomes and how pleased they have all been with her care and attention to detail.

You know you're in good hands right from the start. Yvonne is all about getting you back to doing the things you love. She wants to know your goals, even the ridiculous, probably way out of reach ones, and makes a plan to get you there.
I'd been limping around some hip and IT band issues for over a year. In one session I was feeling, moving and walking better. Within a few weeks the difference running, on the bike and in the gym were huge and the gains keep coming.
I've been to plenty of PT where the first thing you get is a bunch of things you need to stop doing and an endless list of stretching and exercises that no one with a real life could possibly do consistently. That wasn't the case here. The take home work was manageable in terms of time and difficulty and Yvonne was all about doing as much as I could and finding ways to get back to what I couldn't.
No joke, the sessions hurt sometimes, and a lot in some spots, but that's really the only way it's going to be effective. I always trusted Yvonne understood how far to push and that she and I had the same ends in mind. Even knowing she's going to hurt me in spots, I look forward to coming in. It's not the dread you hear from others about their PT experiences. I walk away physically and mentally far better from it everytime.

Yvonne is knowledgeable, skilled, and intuitive...the perfect mix of art and science! She is helping me to feel great throughout the third trimester of my first pregnancy. The manual work she does to loosen up my hips and sacrum is magic, and the pilates sessions are helping me safely strengthen my core and pelvic floor so that I'm prepped for labor, delivery, and all the adventures to come. I highly recommend Yvonne to anyone seeking PT, including those who are pregnant!

I went to Yvonne Castillo for physical therapy following shoulder surgery in 2017. From the moment I met her I could tell I was in the presence of a knowledgeable professional. She was both extremely good at her job while also being compassionate, empathetic, and friendly, and the sessions always flew by. She’s also very good at helping you focus on the goal of repairing your body and doing what’s needed in order to receive the benefits of the program.

My recovery went exactly according to plan. In fact, I almost wished I hadn’t recovered so quickly, because I was sad to see our sessions end. Needless to say, if I ever feel the need to work on my shoulder or anything else requiring PT, I would contact Yvonne immediately. I can’t say enough good things about her.

I have heard nothing but the best about Yvonne’s work as a physical therapist. After suffering a weight lifting shoulder injury that required surgery to repair, I experienced it first hand.

Her professional experience allowed me to achieve my strength and range of motion back in a surprisingly fast time frame. Before I knew it, I had full function of my shoulder again with my complete range of motion. My shoulder feels more stable and stronger than ever now.

Working with her to rehabilitate my shoulder was the best decision I could have made because I was considering doing it on my own and I am glad I didn’t because thanks to her I was able to test among the top candidates in my law enforcement physical assessment selection only a month out from being able to use full physical contact.
Thanks to Yvonne I have been confidently weight training daily without any discomfort and I have been able to start training in my law enforcement career as a Sheriffs Deputy with the Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Office!

I have only been going to physical therapy for 3 weeks and in those 3 weeks I have never felt more energetic and mobile in my whole life. I am fairly young, 28 years, so I didn't think that I was as stiff as I was. I knew I had some hip imbalances, but I never did anything to correct this. Furthemore I am a dancer so I am capable of moving my body fairly well. This led me to believe that I had no mobility problems.

Still something was always bothering me. I knew about my hip imbalances but I was stubborn and didn't want to do anything about it. After a long time of procrastinating I finally went to go see a physical therapist. When I met Dr. Castillo I was immediately amazed. She was able to discern so much about my body, my weaknesses, and my mobility within the first 5 minutes. At first I thought I only had hip imbalances and it would be a quick fix but Dr. Castillo was able to link my imbalances to other problems such as being stiff and having mobility problems. I was shocked at just how stiff I really was. Here I am, at 28, dancing and doing shimees and body rolls, yet I couldn't even handle someone putting minimal pressure on my back.

Dr. Castillo started helping me correct my weaknesses and imbalances by giving me some exercises. By the end of the first week I I could move more easily and even my dancing improved in such a short period of time. I lift weights as well so physical therapy helps with that. My only regret was waiting so long to seek aid. Dr. Castillo is an amazing P.T and I highly recommend anyone who is on the fence to seek physical therapy. I especially recommend physical therapy to everyone who is young because it will help us maintain our mobility and help eliminate joint problems as we grow older.

Dr. Castillo, was extremely helpful in her knowledge of how the body works and reacts when injured. I have been in a long recovery from numerous injuries to my knees and back in which most of the time with prior therapist's it's a 30 minute session and your done. I visited Dr. Castillo initially by text and she was very responsive and informative. I was already working with a therapist but wasn't getting the best treatment. In the 3-4 sessions I worked with Dr. Castillo, I felt is better then if I had done 8-10 treatments with the prior therapist. I'm confident that my active lifestyle will keep going for a very long time. I have the most confidence with Dr. Castillo that I have recommended her to family and friends due to confidence that they too will get the treatment that is needed.
