I’ve been training with Emiko for the past three months, and she has completely transformed how I approach fitness and nutrition in midlife. She helped me understand what my body needs to thrive and that shift in perspective has been invaluable.
With her guidance, I’m lifting heavier than I ever thought possible, all while staying pain free and without the lingering soreness I used to expect. She has an incredible eye for identifying muscle imbalances and takes the time to strengthen weaker areas through progressive exercises.
Beyond her deep knowledge and professionalism, she is genuinely friendly and encouraging, someone who has been there and knows exactly how to help women feel strong at this stage of life. I also love that she has equipped me with a flexible plan I can now take into the gym on my own, so I know exactly how to make the most of my workouts.
If you have been looking for a personal trainer who understands the midlife journey and can help you build lasting strength, Emiko is the one. Highly recommend!

Emiko offers a completely unique and carefully detailed strength training regimen for midlife women. I have done all kinds of fitness training throughout my life...dance, weight lifting, cardio, pilates, barre. But I felt frustrated by the offerings I was finding in my late 40s. I wasn't focused on weight loss (I'd ditched diet culture years earlier) and I wasn't interested in a quick fix. I wanted to be strong, capable, flexible, and steady. Now, a few months after working with Emiko, I'm all of those things and more!
I feel at ease with challenging fitness tasks and move through the most strenuous part of my days with no problems at all. I recently completed a hike that used to leave me panting and aching...this time, I sped up the hill and felt the power and possibility in my muscles. Many of the small aches and pains that used to bug me have disappeared -- shoulder pain, a fussy knee...both gone!
Two things about Emiko's program have really stood out to me. First, she worked me through adaptations and advancing moves so gradually that I barely noticed how much more I was lifting or pushing. Workouts required my focus but did not exhaust or deplete me. Secondly, Emiko was amazingly adaptable to the ups and downs of my life as a mom. She understood rescheduling needs, she gave me restorative exercises instead of my usual workout after my kid had been sick for a week, and she just generally made workouts work for me -- I was never so sore that I couldn't bring the groceries in from the minivan the next day.
In short, Emiko is a real gift to any woman who wants to improve her overall fitness, feel better in her day-to-day, and know that she's the strong woman we all want to be. Give Emiko a try...you won't be disappointed.

I started working with Emiko because I wanted to prepare for a hiking trip and had been having trouble increasing my fitness activities without getting injured and frustrated. She is empathetic and holistic, and I felt better almost immediately. I look forward to and prioritize working out which is new for me. I love that I can just show up and follow her lead, and she will help me know when it is time to move up a weight or change an activity by observation and checking in with me. I highly recommend her.

I found Emiko searching google for a trainer for specializing in "women of a certain age". She is truly a gem! Gentle, but firm, with great knowledge and kindness. She has transplanted herself in my ear...reminding me how to stand, lift, squat and bend CORRECTLY in my everyday life. I spent my life hating working out, but I look forward to our sessions. Exercise mixed with girl-chat and life tips has made working out bearable (dare I say even fun!).

After the mid-life change , I started to notice my body shifting. While I weighed the same (5’8” and 138lbs) my clothes fit different. My middle was bigger even though I was eating less. Sit ups, hot yoga and HIIT didn’t seem to make a difference in the muffin top. In addition, my strength seemed to be deteriorating at an alarming rate. Opening a pickle jar was suddenly a challenge. I was also experiencing frozen shoulder and occasional knee issues. As someone who has been active with dance and yoga my entire adult life, these issues seemed to appear out of nowhere. I decided to find a trainer that specialized in mature women as we have different issues with hormones and metabolism than someone who is 20 or 30 years of age. I was so excited to find Emiko. After our initial meeting, I knew I wanted to train with her. She is a wealth of information and completely dedicated to her coaching. She has educated me on the many changes that occur during mid-life which are all NORMAL. But it also meant I had to train a different way. We focus on what matters to me…..strength, longevity and stamina. At first the exercises were small and very detailed, kind of like mat pilates. Once my hips and core were stabilized, we moved into strength training (weights/machines) and stamina (reps) and a variety of other exercises. She slowly builds the program with something new added each week and includes a video link for my home workouts on how to do the exercise properly. As a competitive ballroom dancer in my 50’s and a social pickleball player, I can participate pain free without worrying about hurting myself due to weakness. My core is stronger, my hips feel more stable and I can do eight pushups on an incline, working towards doing them on the floor. We also discuss diet and I was surprised to learn how much protein women over 50+ have to eat to maintain their muscle mass. Emiko has provided helpful recipes, tips and videos on how to increase my protein slowly and affectively.
I also love that my workout is in a google spreadsheet. She follows up each week with a progress report and gives me things to work on. Appointments are easy to schedule and she's so pleasant to work with.
I feel stronger already. I am really excited to see what happens over the course of the next few months!

Emiko is a wonderful personal trainer! I have been working with her for over four years. I really appreciate her attention to detail and the care she puts into planning my training sessions. She listens to my goals and does a great job of explaining why we are doing each exercise. She also communicated with my physical therapist when I was having shoulder issues so that she could design a workout that would complement what I was doing with my PT. I am also impressed by Emiko's research skills! Whenever I have had something feel off/strange during a particular exercise, she will look into it so that we can get to the bottom of it and clear it up. I have learned so much by working with her and greatly appreciate how much she genuinely cares about my health journey.

Understanding the importance of weight-bearing exercise for women as they age, I felt it was time for me to get started. I was looking for someone with Emiko's particular skill set and supportive demeanor and got so much more! For me, the convenience of online training is a game changer. I use minimal equipment and enjoy adding slowly as the need arises. Her training style utilizes small, precise movements done with great care and attention to form. With previous programs, I usually end up with back pain or other problems soon after starting but have had no such issues as the program is built around my needs, abilities and goals. I've enjoyed many improvements to posture and strength already. Emiko gently meets you where you are and uses her knowledge and kindness to get you where you are going. I'm very grateful!

I was an athlete in college so I was used to training hard and often. After graduating, balancing my career and personal life made going to the gym 6+ days a week not only impractical, but it also wasn't great for my health. Plus, my hypermobile joints weren’t getting the support they needed while exercising so I struggled with injuries and losing interest in working out. Emiko keeps my training sessions friendly and fun and I really appreciate the way she adapts my workouts for where I’m at each day. Some days I feel great, other days my pain is bad and there are always options that feel good and don’t make me feel like I have to push myself on the days I don’t have it in me, which helps me actually stick with the workouts instead of dreading them.

Emiko knows what it means to be an active older woman and helps me be the most fit version of myself. When I started training with Emiko, I just wanted to keep up with my athletic husband and teenage girls on our family hikes and trips. I was also recovering from a back injury and wanted to get fit without injuring myself again. Today I feel stronger than ever before! Not only am I keeping up with my athletic family on challenging hikes, but I am once again able to live my daily life pain free. I am enjoying the great outdoors now more than even with Emiko's help and motivation.

I felt completely stuck and overwhelmed by gyms and the constant focus on losing weight. I was looking for a trainer who wasn't interested in punishing my body, but rather, strengthening it and celebrating all it can do. That is what I found with Phases Fitness. Emiko works with your body where you are, and you progress over time. She teaches you how to listen to your body, and how to do the exercises properly, so that in the future you won't get hurt. And you can see your progress month after month, and it's exciting and encouraging. Calling Phases Fitness was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Emiko is AMAZING! She is #antidiet and for ALL bodies. She was responsive to my needs week to week and we kept working toward my goal of enjoying paddleboarding more since my body has changed a lot in the last 5 years from chronic illness. She went above and beyond with researching and had all moves attached to easy to view youtube videos. I can't recommend her enough.

Emiko is a phenomenal personal trainer and coach on many levels! Her knowledge and passion for fitness are incredible and so are her valuable insights into life in general. She is very patient, caring, thoughtful and nonjudgmental. She takes an interest in me as a person and it shows in the programs she creates for me and MY needs. She does so much more than just supervise my workouts and give me nutrition advice--she truly makes it personal.
I cannot thank Emiko enough for helping me feel good about my body again, especially as a woman in midlife. She has positively changed my views and opinions on this stage of life completely! Because of her I have a healthy relationship with food and I actually ENJOY working out both at the gym and at home.
I would highly recommend Emiko to any woman who is serious about taking better care of herself and living a healthy lifestyle inside and out. Hiring her to train me was one of the best decisions I have EVER made!

As someone who doesn’t like to workout—but who also wants to be fit—I was having a hard time getting started on an exercise routine and frankly I didn't even know where to begin.
Working with Emiko changed the way I think about exercise. I used to think that “working on my core” just meant “trying to get a six pack”. But once my core got stronger, I also noticed that my back pain was gone! I used to think that I had to go long and hard for exercise to make a difference, but what my body ended up responding to was a handful of specific exercises done slow and steady.
Emiko was able to motivate me and she used approaches that worked for me. If I hit a slump, she found a way to help me out of it. The best part? Within 2 weeks, I was already seeing changes in my before and after pics!
Thank you Emiko for a foundation I will always use!
