I’ve taken two beginner classes with Victor now, and I intend to continue going. Victor is a great instructor and really knows his stuff.
He actually cares about students having proper form and alignment and takes the time to helpfully correct you if you’re engaging the wrong muscles or have poor posture. I’ve been trying out various Pilates studios, and many of the instructors don’t seem to care if you have proper form and will let you do the wrong thing, but he truly pays attention! This matters to me a lot as I’m new to Pilates practice and want to make sure I have a good foundation. Getting the fundamentals right ensures an effective workout and helps to prevent injury.
He is also deeply knowledgeable and experienced in Pilates, more than your average instructor. He’s been teaching Pilates for almost 20 YEARS, he’s a former track and field OLYMPIAN, and has a degree in physiology and biomechanics so he really understands how the body works. And he’s what’s called a third generation Pilates teacher, which means his teacher’s teacher was Joseph Pilates himself!!! You can’t get any more OG than that.
If you’re serious about trying Pilates or advancing your practice, I can’t recommend his studio enough! (He also gets bonus points for having a clean and spacious studio, new Reformer machines, and plenty of free parking!)
So glad he’s part of the Pilates community in LA.

I wasn’t sure if I should try the class based on the few negative reviews. But it was nearby so I did anyway. I’m glad I went! Victor was quiet but very kind. I didn’t have it right a few times and he came over and gently showed me. He walked us through every motion, showed the positions with his hands and sometimes on the machine itself. Counted down super calmly. I felt comfortable and focused. The machines are new and super clean. I thought the vibe was nice in there! Great spot to pop in before a grocery store shop too! I did Pilates 1.0 class and I’d say it was a good class if you want to get into a groove of Pilates. It wasn’t crazy challenging but I was still pushing myself at moments. I could’ve turned up the difficulty a bit so I might try the 2.0!

Don’t go- it’s an unattractive studio and the instructor / owner is basic and rude.
During the class I was feeling too much strain so I took off a spring. He saw me and I said I needed less because I said I had old injuries. I said it was 2 years ago…I did PT, healed, I’m fine. I just needed to adjust it. He was very condescending, “remove your feet from the straps”. He made me leave half way through class. Humiliating.
The studio is dark and stuffy with blank walls. You stare up at cold florescent style light fixtures. No music. No smiles. And no modifying. So if ever in your life you had an injury that makes it harder to do a back bend or flex that knee, too bad.

Just took a class here and I’m already hooked! I feel so good! The instructor was fantastic, super clear and encouraging throughout. The small class size made it feel personal and comfortable, and I appreciated the hands-on guidance. Can’t wait to come back!

Victor is fantastic! Challenging but just the right amount. The studio is lovely as well. Big and airy, unlike many which are crammed.

This is the worst Pilates class I have ever taken ... this instructor has no people skills or personality...a disgrace to the pilates community. Speaking to people like they are less than will not get more participants I plan to never go back. BEWARE IF YOU LOOKING FOR A ZEN VIBE >>>NOT HERE!

I wanted to really like this place because of the positive reviews previously listed. The machines were clean and newer, the class itself had a great variety of exercises/moves, parking was free and plentiful.
I had Victor as the instructor and the first half of the class was fine enough as the moves were simple and he demonstrated footwork positions with his hands.
Second half was a little more challenging to follow. I have nothing against wearing a face mask for health reasons or protection, but it makes instructions difficult to hear when the instructor wears one (which he was), especially when the studio size is large. During one move, I had a hard time hearing and understanding what he was trying to say and he said, "YOU'RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION!" I found that extremely offensive and presumptive. Victor - how do you know I just can't hear what you're saying because of your mask? How do you know it's not because YOUR instructions aren't clear? I was paying attention the entire class and tried to understand what he meant with his instructions, but when I failed to actually do what he instructed, he assumed it was because I wasn't paying attention.
I don't need to be made to feel like I'm a 1st grader who isn't paying attention in class. Instead of being helpful and coming over to point or even demonstrate on an empty machine what I was supposed to do (it was simple enough, my trouble was I couldn't hear what he was saying and his instruction was vague, especially as I was a first-timer to his studio and not familiar with his instruction style yet), he assumed I was intentionally not paying attention. Thanks, Victor, but no thanks.
I've been to Whole Body Method, West Adam Pilates, Bodyline Pilates and a few others in the area and the instructors were more welcoming. Victor gives off almost a dance-class military vibe that may work for others, but unfortunately did not work for me.
That being said, I'm still giving a couple of stars because the OTHER class attendees were great at showing me the moves when I couldn't hear or understand him.
I'd like to recommend that he takes a gentler approach to his teaching style and that he try to be more empathic to new class attendees.

Love Victor’s classes. I started with the beginner mat and Pilates and have worked my way up to reformer 1.5. I really like the way the classes focus on form and breathe. Couldn’t recommend this studio more!!

I have worked with Victor, the owner and main instructor at Pilates Essentials, for over a decade. He is the most educated, hardworking, encouraging (and underpaid!) coach I've worked with. You will learn great form, an excellent mindset, and receive hands on instruction which is rare these days. The best example of his high quality & standard of work is HIM -- he is in his 60s and looks like he's in his 40s. 11/10 for Victor and Pilates Essentials!!!

I was a newbie beginner when I started classes at Pilates Essentials a few months ago, and have really enjoyed coming back here weekly for classes with Victor since. The studio is conveniently located in a small retail center with parking, Starbucks and Vons.

Great pilates studio! It is really spacious and the instructor is incredibly patient and accommodating for beginner students like myself :). It's in a shopping complex, so parking is not an issue which is so helpful.

Great studio! So beautiful, bright and clean. The instructor is very knowledgable about pilates and the class was an awesome mix of half Mat and half reformer. I can't wait to go back for my next
class!
