I have been working out at Pillar for 15 years and it’s been the best experience I have ever had with personal training. I have worked with Colleen to achieve my personal health goals as well as to improve my fitness for surfing and snowboarding. Over the years she has helped me meet my goals as well as excel at my athletic abilities in the water and snow. Colleen definitely changed up my regular weight training by adding pilates to my training. I never thought I would like Pilates, but I love it. I really think it compliments my weight training and other activities. From all my years snowboarding professionally I have some imbalances. I never realized how disconnected my limbs were from the rest of my body. Colleen and pilates has made a phenomenal difference in my pelvis stability, alignment, and strength. Besides always getting a great workout and working towards my health goals at Pillar, Colleen makes it so much fun. I’ve never not seen Colleen with a smile on her face and words of encouragement oozing from her lips!

The studio is spotless, thoughtful, and well-maintained. The owner is very grounded, authentic and I feel that if there was ever a solution needed for anything, she would be the first to offer it. It feels like the energy of the studio is forward, moving… Forward thinking. And as a forward, moving, forward, thinking person myself, it feels like a sanctuary.

I have been doing pilates for approximately 9 years, and have had the opportunity to work with some very good trainers. Nothing, however, compares with the instruction I receive from Colleen Naus. I began working directly with Colleen approximately 18months ago, and immediately noticed an improvement in my technique and strength. She has the ability to communicate the many nuances in positioning the body for optimal form, hence proper alignment for best outcomes. Where, in the past, I would sometime grudgingly go to my classes, I now wake up on a pilates day and think “yes! I have class today” Thanks Colleen for bringing this JOY.

If you’re looking for a Pilates studio, I’ll save you some time - this is it. They do individual private sessions or small groups of two to four people, so regardless of the format, you get careful attention to your form and movement. This is not some Club Pilates workout or group fitness class with a teenager hollering at you to get your reps in; this studio engages in high quality Classical Pilates.
If you’re thinking of trying Pilates for the first time, getting back into Pilates after a short break (or Pandemic-long break, lol), or if you are recovering from an injury, I’d highly recommend this studio. They know what they’re doing, so you can get an amazing workout and start moving and feeling better right from the get go.
For years they’ve had a studio down in Solana Beach, but this year they have a new studio in Carlsbad, which I find even more convenient. Their flat-rate pricing is nice whether you prefer to buy a class pack or pay-as-you-go. The instructors are fabulous, particularly the owner, Colleen. Her ability to cue you to move slightly differently and get the move just-right is unmatched, and she’s just a wonderful, giving person. Trust me; you will love her classes.

Vacationing in Carlsbad for 6 weeks from Rancho Mirage, CA to escape the heat. Was overjoyed to be able to find a wonderful Pilates studio near where we are staying n Carlsbad. I take classes at home in the desert 3 times a week. So, finding Coleen’s studio was so perfect. The studio has great equipment. New and diverse. My husband has joined me for a few group classes and a semiprivate and enjoys the workout as much as I do.The instructor, Coleen, is highly skilled in every aspect of movement. I believe she was trained as a dancer which lead to her interest in other aspects of how to keep the human body healthy and strong. She is one of the very best instructors I’ve ever worked with and I’ve been taking Pilates for over 25 years. I highly recommend Coleen’s studio.

Pillar Performance is a fantastic gym. The trainers are knowledgeable and friendly and the environment is supportive without the pressure or superficiality of some big-box gyms. I love that they offer both pilates and strength training, which really compliment each other if you do both. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone who wants a great personal trainer.

I don't know what I'd do without my regular exercise routine with pillar. I work a high-stress job, and the high-quality and challenging workouts are crucial to my overall health, not just my physical strength and stamina. Since training with the pillar staff doing both personal training and Pilates, I have lost over 20 pounds of body fat. I feel stronger than I have since college, and my posture is better than it has been in years. The atmosphere is much more inviting than the big gyms I've been in, and at pillar you feel like you are not just a number, but part of a team. I'll be working out with pillar for as long as they will put up with me.
