It affordable with decent equipments. The thing that freaking annoying is this "LUNK" alarm the hurts your ears. They abuse it for the closing time. I think there absolutely a better way to let people know it will be closing soon. We know English language better. Great place to work out in the mornings. They get quite busy in the afternoons, so plan accordingly. Staff is friendly and helpful. Sanitizing spray bottles and paper towels at all trash locations. Hydro & chair massages are a perk as well as the body enhancement red therapy pods. There are also tanning booths (but I haven't tried). They have minimal free weights like short barbell weights, dumbbells, and kettlebells. Sometimes, you have to wait for a Smith Machine to open up (same goes for cable machines). There are no barbell free weights. Also, there is an excessive amount of cardio machines upstairs, which could be replaced with more machines (like the new hip thruster or deadlift machines in Poway location). Overall, great location and amenities.

Love this gym but the hours are GARBAGE! Go back to 24 hours! Some of us have families or work and can only come at night. Every day you keep these garbage hours is a day you potentially lose customers to 24 Hour Fitness. The 24 hour thing was the one thing that first drew me to this gym back in 2016. I’m writing to express concern about an unfortunate experience my mother and brother had at your Otay Ranch location on the morning of Friday, May 2nd. My brother, who is on the autism spectrum and does not use a phone or other device, regularly attends the gym with my mother. Until now, there have been no issues with her assisting him at check-in, and the front desk staff have typically been friendly and understanding.However, during this visit, the Member Services representative /shift lead ( white shirt ) handled a misunderstanding regarding my brother’s membership in a way that came across as unnecessarily rude and disrespectful. The interaction created an unwelcoming and uncomfortable environment for both my mother and brother.We understand that procedures must be followed, but we ask that your staff handle such situations with greater sensitivity and professionalism. What is there not to like about the Otay Ranch Planet Fitness? It has been a magnificent experience from day one (Dec/2023). The staff are polite, patient, and attentive and they work diligently to keep the gym clean and functional. I would highly recommend Planet Fitness and the Black Card membership to anyone based on my experience at the Otay Ranch facility. I thoroughly enjoy working with the trainers, Cameron has been extraordinary in both guidance and goal setting, but most importantly in helping attain said goals. The whole team at Otay Ranch from the manager, Nick to the amazing staff like Karla and Sean have made it such a positive experience that I don't think I would have stuck with gym life had it not been for the Otay Ranch facility and staff. I tried to cancel my membership due to medical condition but they convicted you to freeze it instead. They said they that in order for me to cancel it I have to go in person but all of a sudden they can do it over the phone. Please have the Manager, Nick, call me to discuss cancellation. The reason for cancellation is incorrect.

I cancelled for the following rational:

After 3 years, I wanted to downgrade my subscription from Black Card to Basic Classic subscription. I went in to speak to with someone at the front desk, about downgrading, twice. Each time I was told that due to billing cycle, between the 14th and 17th of month, I had to wait to down grade subscription. I accepted that policy, as I was in no rush.

I went in yesterday, Thur. 1/23/25 to exercise, ~ 6:45pm. I spoke to a young lady, Savannah(?), who was happy to assist me to downgrade. Unfortunately, after waiting for a period of time, she could not figure out how to downgrade me. She told me to come back tomorrow to downgrade my subscription.

Frustrated after just trying to do, what should be a simple downgrade, I asked her to cancel my subscription. Unsurprisingly she was able to do that fairly quickly.

The young lady seem to be a recent hire. It is not her fault, but it surely is a lack of training and oversight.

It's Sunday 17, 2024, 12:00 pm. I shaved in the locker room and ready to take a shower but there is no hot water. No courtesy call or sign to tell customers that there is no hot water. I called the front desk from the locker room and spoke to Melissa who said that she knew about it and that they have been trying to fix it. She said that one of her coworkers will take a look at it when he comes back from lunch. 100% bad customer service. I shaved and have all my stuff ready to take a shower, and ready to go to work in a couple of hours but can't because they got no hot water. This location is supposed to open at 5am on weekdays. For the past several months, that has not been the case. Out of 5 weekdays, on average they open on time maybe 1 of those days. This is particularly an issue because the morning crowd is generally there because they want to workout before going to work, but by not opening up on time, our workouts are cut short. The Planet Fitness located on Birch Road in Chula Vista surpasses all other branches I've visited in terms of cleanliness and overall experience. Despite not being the closest location to me and hearing a negative review from someone close, I decided to see for myself. From my first interaction with Karla, the front office representative, I was impressed. She was not only welcoming but also incredibly helpful from my initial phone inquiry to my integration process with the Active and Fit Direct membership. Karla took the time to give me a detailed tour upon my arrival, explaining the equipment and additional services available for Black Card members. I travel a lot for work and have visited several PF around the US and this one is by far the best one I've ever been to! This is a good size gym. It does get a little busy and the meter on the app is never accurate but it's still layed out pretty well with plenty of space. If you're thinking about joining and you think $25 is too much just realize that you will feel at least $30 better so it's worth it. This has happened a few times now and needs to be addressed. I took this picture at 5:15 AM and there is no one here from the staff to open the gym. I finally ended up leaving at 5:30 am. There’s a long line forming outside of the gym with people quickly getting tired of waiting. If you’re choosing this gym to have 5 am workouts then I’d probably go elsewhere since you can’t guarantee that you will get a workout in when you purposely got up early. Most of us want to start our day with a workout but apparently you can’t guarantee you’ll be able to workout since hours of operation are not consistent. No use calling security because you’re just sent to voicemail. Disappointing.

I liked this gym at first . But now its become the hang out spot for lots of kids who dont know how to use the equipment and goof off. Not to mention the constant phone use while using the equipment. If you go to the gym, go for its intended purpose NOT to watch your shows and look on social media. There are lots of people waiting to use the equipment, be curteous. Very frustrating and annoying. I’m a single father who lives nearby the Rolando location, and hits the Otay Ranch location when I take my son to school in the area. Thanks to the premium black card membership, I can hit every location in San Diego (and more, even in Vegas - just no slot machines there).

The 30-minute workout room is my go-to, my usual, another second home. I set my stuff down in front of a pillar, do my pre-workout stretch (I’m too old for pre-workout drink, sonny), adjust a step to make room for myself & other bypassers, sync my workout clock with the stoplight that still doesn’t give a warning blinking before switching lights (which is okay, because its timing is actually slightly shorter than the actual minute & 30-sec intervals), put on my music, spray my hand towel with cleaner, pick a machine and start on a step, enjoying the view of the mountains during the step routines.
I’ve seen a review complaining about people coming into the 30-minute workout room just to do sets and play with their phones. I get it. I hear you. People don’t follow rules. People are stupid.

I let it go. I can’t find a nicer way to admonish other gymgoers to use the 30-minute workout room just for the 30-minute workout. I used to be all passive-aggressive and stomp harder during my steps while staring the violators dead in the eye. Now I’m like, hey, mi casa su casa! I work my way around my visitors and remember to use the machine(s) I skipped. So, the 30-minute tests not only my strength, agility and stamina, but also my patience and attitude. I do better now.
Also, I found ways to modify the step routines that are harder than the original posted step routines (You can google image the orginal step routines because I’m sure they’ve been disposed).
To take things easy on my 42-year-old boomer bodily infrastructure, I move one leg at a time instead of jumping or thrusting my legs out for burpees. I need to TikTok this.

Moving on from there. The place is clean, and the equipments are good (despite some cardio TVs not functioning as if we bring wired earphones anyway).
The staff is somewhat friendly, trained to welcome us in & out, molded by the seemingly entitled bougie general population of Otay Ranch to speak only when spoken to, but courteous and helpful. Just gotta reach out to them.

After all, I love this location. I always return and do recommend. Get your poke next door, or maybe Mexican food and cerveza across the way.

Worst customer service ever!
My fiance and I are going to train in the afternoon, today we decided to do it in the morning and while my fiancé was waiting for me to finish my routine, the people at the front desk asked him to leave the facilities because he was waiting at the community tables and according to Front Desk those tables are exclusively for managers. I asked them to show me the policy that only managers could use them, and they told me that basically the front desk set their rules, and that if they said they were for managers, they were for managers inly and we couldn't use them.
