Edit: When I first started coming here in 2023, it really was a great bargain. Ample equipment, larger location than Inglewood and Torrance. The staff was pretty nice too and there was this one guy... kind of heavy set but always friendly and always cleaned equipment and restocked supplies regularly.

In 2025, I'm seeing more broken equipment and I'm having to find a cleaning station. The helpful staff members may be seen once or twice but it looks like the big guy moved on. I'm also seeing more equipment tied by people on their phone (which is why I stopped going to the Torrance location)as well as more kids and young people running in the main area. Now I can't even enjoy the benefits of having a black card membership because the aqua massager acts up or is broken.

On July 2nd at 2:30 in the morning, I had to wait an excessive amount of time just to get into the gym because the cleaning crew had piled multiple bags of trash in front of the entrance while sifting through them for recyclables. I took pictures that night to document the situation. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident—I’ve observed the same behavior on many other nights as well.

On top of that, the cleaning itself is subpar. I’ve watched them rinse the showers without using any cleaning solution or scrubbing, and afterward, the floors and showers are still dirty, with hair and debris left behind. It often feels like their priority is collecting recyclables rather than actually cleaning the facility.

It’s disappointing to be inconvenienced and left with a gym that doesn’t feel sanitary. The management really needs to address the cleaning standards and ensure the crew focuses on maintaining cleanliness instead of sorting through trash in front of members.

This place in Hawthorne is terrible. I'm here asking for the massage chair/bed. As always, two women are talking. It's 5:30. I got out of bed three times because the #10 they told me about doesn't work and they're here. They didn't give me another bed. They told me they'd come look, and I've been waiting for it for five minutes now. They're rude. Turns out #8 doesn't work either. They should have helpful staff at this place. I think I'll have to cancel all the time. It's the same thing. They don't have good customer service.

2025 update: black card member privileges are almost always out of order, there’s horrible smell in massage bed 8, they have been alerted of this, don’t know if it’s the room or what but cannot relax due to smell. ALSO ADD a big sign alerting members they will be towed after hours if parked on right side of lot.

I’m barely giving 2 stars, member since opening & no they did NOT have a sign stating no parking in DD areas. I was illegally towed costing over $300 when I tried to find out ownership or management of the lot seems like a secret. I reported this to BBB & to the police as no one was able to provide contact info to ownership. Illegal tows are big business, now as a blk card member I was told I’m disobeying bc I did not have the app and therefore could not enter with my guest. What? I’m a paying member and my guest always gave the phone number to be checked in. Not everyone has an app. The fact I scanned my card and shows current black card membership paid should have been enough. Very rude group of young people who do not know how to conduct business. They tried to embarrass me and laughed. When I stated the front desk would just her name/number of my guest Jay & Alexis said well this is how we do it and we’re here now.

Okay… so, where do I even begin with this place? 🤨 It’s… well, it’s a gym, I guess. The lighting is kind of dim, which gives the whole atmosphere this eerie, almost supernatural vibe. You walk in, and it feels like something’s just… off. You’re not sure if it’s the smell of rubber mats mixed with cleaning solution, or the way the machines seem to watch you as you walk past. Either way, it’s hard to shake that feeling that you’re being observed by something that isn’t human. 🧐

The staff? Friendly. Too friendly. Almost too friendly. They’re always there, offering you a “free fitness consultation” or asking if you need help with anything. But sometimes… they linger, like they know things you don’t. 🤐 You know, stuff like what’s REALLY going on behind the scenes. But no—just take your protein shake and run, right? Run.

Speaking of running, I’ve spent hours on the treadmill here. HOURS. And you know what? I lost way more weight on Ozempic than I ever did on that treadmill. Who knew that a few injections would melt fat faster than running in place for an eternity? 😅 Maybe the treadmill is just a modern-day torture device, slowly draining your energy while pretending you’re “working on yourself.” But who needs that when you’ve got Ozempic? It’s like a magic pill, but with way fewer creepy stares.

But hey, Planet Fitness is definitely “judgment-free”—at least that’s what they claim. You’d think with all the judgment-free talk, the mirrors wouldn’t feel like they’re staring straight into your soul, silently judging every move you make.

So, three stars. I can’t give it more because, well, it's just kind of… unsettling? But it’s a gym, and it does its job. The real magic happens when you stop running, sit back, and wait for the Ozempic to work its wonder. 🫠

This place is horrible at keeping up with their shower cleaning. There is always trash and hair all over the floors as well as random people sleeping in stalls where people should be able to change. My experience here is not that bad. Gets the job done. I really want to thank Ame for being super helpful and kind. I was trying to do something with my account but I showed up when the system was down. She reassured me that it will get done and she wrote down my info for the account. Summer months are torture at this gym. There really needs to be a limit on how many high school students you let in the gym. 7/10/2025 there must have been the whole high school there I was unable to get on the machines I wanted to use all week. I commend what you are trying to do but at least make a separate section for VIP users. This is crazy and if it continues, I will just cancel my membership.

Not all Planet Fitness locations are the same. I discovered my new favorite gym during my visit outside of Inglewood, CA. It was clean and orderly, with several machines that were different from those at other locations. The locker room was excellent, and the Black Card spa featured the best massage chairs; the hydrotherapy chair worked well, too. The staff at the Hawthorne location were very welcoming and encouraging. Additionally, a significant amount of parking was available, and the location itself was great.

However the receptionist was very short with me, there was no staff to show me how the machines work, the bathroom stalls had tissue everywhere, the dressing area has hair all over the floor and there was an unbearable odor coming from the showers. There’s an old man who gets at gym at around 1 am who has 4 lockers (82, 81, 69 and 68) an maybe others I’ve seen them, with padlocks full of garbage and plastic bags that stink every time you open them! They should check the lockers DAILY! and avoid this type of situation since it is quite unpleasant.

SMELLS AWFUL!

And no, I'm not going to talk to management to get them to do something because it's clear that they don't do anything. Just like the filthy, horrible parking lot they have full of homeless people living in their cars. At the end of the day, management doesn't get paid enough to care.

For the most part, of all the other gyms within 20mins, this one was my favorite, but after not having any toilet paper for days, I question management.
I was told that it was ordered, but management could have gone to Costco to get a pack for the interim and should have been reimbursed by the owner.
Ironically as I began to type my review, the toilet papers was finally delivered (after not having any for days), staff placed it in the bathroom, but didn’t bother cleaning the bathroom.
Another staff member placed the rolls on the toilet, which was dirty.

I truly love this gym and have a deep appreciation for the staff, who are always friendly and welcoming. Compared to the Torrance location, where I’ve encountered unprofessional and rude staff, the Hawthorne gym stands out for its positive atmosphere. However, I’ve had concerns regarding privacy and cleanliness in the locker room and shower area, which I believe need to be addressed.

The mirrors in the locker area, particularly near the showers, create an uncomfortable situation. They are positioned in such a way that individuals can unintentionally be filmed or photographed while getting in and out of the shower. On one occasion, I was unknowingly captured on someone's Instagram Live. Despite expressing my concerns to the staff, I was told there is nothing that can be done about it. This has made me feel violated and uncomfortable, and I believe this issue should be taken seriously not just ignored. Adjusting the mirror placement or removing them altogether could significantly improve privacy and ensure that everyone feels safe and respected.

While I understand that privacy concerns vary from person to person, I think it’s crucial that the gym address this situation to prevent further incidents. The bathrooms can definitely use more frequent cleanings and restock. Additionally, I noticed that the parking lot could use some attention. There is often a lot of clutter and debris in the parking lot It would be great if the gym could work on improving the cleanliness of the parking lot.

That being said, I still love this gym for its positive atmosphere, great staff, and equipment. While it doesn't have all the latest machines that Torrance has, it’s still my preferred location. I hope the privacy concerns in the locker room and cleanliness can be resolved, as it’s a major factor in my overall experience.

I’ve been extremely disappointed with the overall cleanliness and management of this gym. The parking lot is frequently littered with trash, creating an unwelcoming first impression. Upon entering the gym, it’s common to see employees sitting idly at the counters, often engaged in meaningless conversations, including the manager, who appears disengaged from the tasks at hand.

In the evenings, I’ve noticed that employees allow homeless individuals to sleep on the sofas and massage chairs, which raises serious concerns about safety and cleanliness. The state of the restrooms is particularly concerning: they are often dirty, with no toilet paper, and soap and water frequently spill over the sinks. This is despite employees being stationed at the front desk. The smell in both men's and women's bathrooms is foul, with a musty foul odor.

Additionally, there have been times when I’ve observed unsanitary conditions, such as a pile of feces left in a shower I have also regularly experienced no toilet paper and recently for over a week straight, it's also an ongoing issue people taking photos in the shower area and locker area which is a privacy issue. The cleaning practices seem inadequate — the showers are only cleaned by the cleaning crew at night, sprayed with solution and rinsed off, but not scrubbed. It’s hard to see how this is effective at disinfecting. The rest of the bathroom/gym maintenance is lacking due to the employees socializing instead of doing their job.

For the gym to improve, it’s crucial to have a team that takes their responsibilities seriously, starting with the management. Employees should be proactive in ensuring the gym is cleaned more frequently especially during rush hour and safe, and the facility should be maintained to a much higher standard.

Do yourself a favor and stay far away from Club. I went in today around 12:30, and the level of disrespect I experienced was beyond ridiculous. There was a staff member behind the counter, a big black guy with nappy hair, who acted like I wasn’t even there. I asked if I could use the massage chair, and he half-heartedly said yes—but I needed to sign in first. Fine. I start signing in, and this guy turns his back on me and starts chatting with some girl, completely ignoring me.

I stood there for a long time waiting for him to help me, and every time I asked what chair I should use, he brushed me off. He didn’t care. Just kept talking to the girl, like I was some kind of nuisance. I had to ask him three times before he finally gave me a half-assed answer—“chair five.” The girl had to step in to help me because this guy was too busy treating me like I didn’t exist.

This place has ZERO customer service. You’re not just paying for a service—you’re paying to be treated like garbage. I’m writing this not because I think they’ll do anything about it (they won’t), but to warn anyone who thinks this place is worth their time. If you want to be ignored, disrespected, and basically shoved aside, then by all means, go ahead. But if you want actual service, go somewhere else. I will never be back, and I recommend you don’t waste your time or money here either.

Worst location I've ever been to across the entire country. I expect this brand to be consistent across locations and this gym is filthy, broken, inconsiderate people with no gym etiquette, workers who don't care, genuinely the worst one I've been to in my entire life. Never coming back. It poses legitimate safety issues when the employees literally lounge around, letting people walk into the club without scanning in. I witnessed this multiple times. Someone is going to get hurt or killed based on what I witnessed tonight and it poses extreme liability issues for the entire brand. There are signs posted about not parking at DDs its on the back walls and posted on the back of DDs building and in front of the building you will get a tickets if you park there at the wrong time of night,I got one , the downside i is that the parking lot is always covered in Trash and homeless people screaming to themselves and I can never get any Hot water in the shower. TERRIBLE PARKING even at 10pm. Even at 1130pm. The lot is small and always pretty much full. I made the mistake of parking on the DDs discount side of the connected lot yesterday and they quickly towed my car all the way to South Gate. It cost a whopping $409 to get the car back that night plus ubering to south gate. DO NOT make the same mistake I did. Even if it's after hours do not park on DDs side. You will get towed.
Because of that and the lack of parking in that area (side streets full of no parking signs) it's massively inconvenient to come to this location unless you go around 1am. Or don't mind waiting around for someone to leave.
You'd be better off going to any of the other planet Fitness locations in the area.

Aside from that it's a pretty standard location. The equipment works. It's not always super clean and usually low or no toilet paper in the restroom. Typical planet Fitness things.
Just please beware of the parking situation. It feel especially predatory because planet Fitness is an attractive option to people who are low income and may not have $400 to get their car out of the tow yard. It's almost like they're counting on that fact.
Whats the harm in parking on the DDs side after hours anyway? Nobody is coming to the store at that time. Because it's closed.

I’ve been to about 70+ PFs and even though my experience was more of a 4-star, i’ll give them a 5-star because of the convenience and location. Yes the parking lot is a bit sketchy but so is most of LA. I liked how the hydromassage chairs were always available. They do have just enough equipment for the amount of people that are there. I wish it was less busy and/or the guests were actually focused on using the equipment and not being on their phones. The staff was friendly and there was always something nice to look at in the gym 😉

This location is very dirty inside and out the men's bathroom is disgusting the employees are very unprofessional you'll see them lounging in the bathroom instead of cleaning it. Come late at night and it's like the Ringling Brothers Barnum& Bailey Circus the employees just allowing people to sleep in the black card area even get high in there while they are either on their phone looking at videos and social media or the two female employees carry on with each other gossiping with each other like they don't have paying members they should be making eye contact with. The men's bathroom is disgusting beyond words it smells like urine the trash is overflowing and the lazy ladies at the front desk sometimes say they don't have a male to clean it, absolutely not a valid excuse. When there is a male there to clean he's on his phone too you ask them if it can get cleaned and the energy gets very uncomfortable between the employees arguing and the bathroom still doesn't get cleaned might as well let the night crew go home and let the members run the gym like they are doing anyway. Seems like they need all new crew. If you come at night it's like watching a soap opera who has time for that.

It's okay. Right now there are many teenagers "working out". Sometimes they are in groups either there all talking and not doing anything just sitting on the machines or they are on their phones sitting just taking a machine. I try to go as early as possible because in the afternoon and night it is impossible to get a nice workout.

Honestly I yust love coming to this gym but ever since the whole black card and you can bring ur teenagers its toooooo over crowded and literally you can't use no machine what so ever I literally have to wait for 10 mins for a machine 😒 the only that dosent except guest is the one in Carson if I have to go their then only to avoid to many people.

Iv started back at this location again and since I've gone back I've never had an available associate to help me get a massage chair. Each time I'm just standing there for 10 minutes looking for someone. It keeps happening to the point I have to drive to Torrence just to use the chair! Hire enough ppl pls. I'll change my review if I can get a consistent experience at least twice in a row

The young man employee was doing drugs in the changing room, when confronted about it, he laughed and called me names. He threated to cancel my membership. Then he acted like he didn't understand me and just spoke to me in Spanish. That kid should be fired and management should really do something about this.

This gym has become my reliable go-to spot for achieving my fitness goals. Interacting with the staff, including Jay, Zach, and others, has always been a pleasure; they are consistently accommodating and helpful whenever I need assistance. I've received excellent support from managers Derrick and Eduardo as well.

Admittedly, the gym does tend to get crowded, particularly with a lot of kids, but it's better to see them here staying active than causing trouble elsewhere.

Overall, while there are areas for improvement, it's evident that the staff are dedicated to ensuring a great experience for members.

One recommendation I have is to enhance the visibility of the existing sign informing patrons about the parking arrangement at the DD’s parking lot to prevent their cars from being towed at night.

I used my one day pass and loved the gym. Only reason I'm hesitant to join is the massive amount of TVs they have . I got nauseous while using the treadmill, I wish they didn't have all those screens that distract and make the place feel chaotic.

All people do is “workout” in groups and hang around the weights just talking saying they’re using the machines. While there I just see them talk and talk and talk and not one weight lifted. The “fitness” center is a joke.

Way too busy. There are only four smith machines in the gym and you have to fight your way to get to one. Today was chest day and I was in the gym for 2 hours and was unable to get a smith machine to do my bench, which is an exercise that I strive to improve on. So instead of bench, I had to wait 30 minutes just get an adjustable bench so I could do inclined dumbell press. I figured I could just sit there and knock some sets out, then eventually I could snag a smith. I sat and did 8 sets of inclined dumbell and 5 sets of Flys and was still unable to get a smith machine. Also it doesn't help that there are groups of kids in the gym that will just sit at a smith machine for an hour. They just camp out there . Also there is a serious lack of chest machines. At my hometown planet fitness they have and incline, mid, and declined chest press machines that I enjoy using. All this gym has is a chest press, dumbells, one fly machine, and 4 smith machines. Now I could get a solid pump in with these. It's not bad equipment at all. It's just the excessive amount of people that go here. I've never seen a planet fitness so packed. If it wasn't for the crowd this would be a great gym to go to. Maybe it was just the time I went today. I'm going to try to go earlier tomorrow and hopefully I can beat the crowd. if not I'm have to have to find somewhere else to go get my lifts in. Which sucks because this is the closest gym to me. But I'm paying a membership for machines and equipment that, due to the crowd, I don't have access to.

Hoy 19 de Diciembre a las 5h35 aproximadamente aquí en la sucursal de Hawthorne 90250 recibí un mal trato por parte de las 3 personas que estaban en el frente recibiendo a las personas.

Yo había pasado con mi Black Card y lo puse en el scaner, y fui al baño y luego salí para ver algo en mi carro.

Y al entrar de nuevo un sujeto me grita que escanee de nuevo, no lo pide amablemente, por que si hubiera estado atento a las personas que llegan me hubiera visto que ya había entrado.

Empieza a exigirme que lo haga de mala forma junto a sus otros 2 compañeros.

Se nota que no saben tratar al.cliente y en ves de estar pendientes y saludar cuando uno llega están conversando.

Deberían elegir mejor a su personal del trabajo.

Cuando esta el jefe ahí si están pendientes y son amables pero cuando están solos hacen lo que les da la gana.

Uno viene por sentirse bien pero con gente como esta, no se puede.

Ojalá hagan algo para mejorar.

Had a horrible experience here. It was my first time coming to this gym. The parking lot is so small. My car got towed because i parked two spaces to the left of the gym which is considered “DD’s parking” even tho there are no divisions. The signs they claim are posted are so small and on the wall. And i was facing away so no way to see them. They need to do a better job letting their paying guest know about this specially if it’s late night. Also when brought to your employees they couldn’t care less and were no help.

Car got towed!! parking at dd because the gym’s parking lot is full. Paid $400+ to get my car back! No clear sign and no any warning. There are many reviews already complaining about this, and at the same time when I found out my car got towed there are a couple of other people’s car got towed as well after workout!!! If the same situation continue to happen to customers why not put up a clear sign? Gym needs to provide more info about this!!! Now they just sit there and watches their members car keep getting towed and do nothing. Okay gym but Horrible experience
