I am a military veteran.

I have been working out at planet fitness for many years now in various states, 5 days a week.. As well as countless other fitness facilities in various states.

Isabel from the staff in Lakeside is the first person I have encountered in my years of working out at countless facilities to kick me off a treadmill for carrying 25 pound weights. As I might have to carry people for long period with the non profit I volunteer for.

I was being quiet and respectful.

Lakeside is a big military town, I can attest to this as I am born and raised here.

If military personnel are required to carry heavy loads for long periods.. of time.

If Veterans who stand up for our country can't train in such a simple fashion without being harassed by Planet Fitness Staff, I think veterans might need to reconsider giving their money to this company.

It might be another thing if a person was being disrespectful. It is more dangerous to take a shower in their bathrooms risking a slip than carrying moderately light weights.

WHY the HELL is Planet Fitness playing GOSPEL MUSIC over their speaker system??? 9:40am on a Saturday morning and the music goes from 125bpm fitness music to some hillbilly rendition of Amazing Grace. If I wanted to hear gospel music, I would join a church. I do not come to the gym for that crap. If it happens again, I’m cancelling my membership.

There's a full grown man that goes into the bathroom of girls, girls are scared of him in the bathroom, my friend told the front desk and they just said " on his license it says he's a woman we can't do anything about it " like are you serious he's a full on grown man, African American, full on bulk on his pink leggings, that's so wrong and I don't feel it's safe for actual women to be exposed to guys entering their lockers and showers like wow, this can't be happening. They just made it a hassle canceling my membership. I was out on disability almost the whole year of 2024 and I was told I can’t email them to cancel. I finally made it in person like they requested to cancel and they didn’t even check my ID. Just shady tactics to keep charging you when you are not going. Wouldn’t recommend!

My son has had a membership and he called today to find out about a annual fee that was going to be taken out on the 1st. The 1st guy we talked to Jacob was nice and trying to help out, then he put us on hold and had a female not sure the name get on and was completely rude and told him that he signed up for it and he should know. I asked to speak to a manager and was told no one was on duty and I can talk to another employee. Not a way to run a business. Canceled his membership and then instead of waiting till the 1st like it says they pulled the money out, overdrafting my son. Poor customer service here. Re think this business

Shower review: this planet fitness had hot water which was appreciated. The showers are a stall with glass doors across a hall from the changing stalls. The doors open toward the rest of the bathroom making it hard to transition from being toweled to nude without being seen but it’s not impossible. Overall they are fine and as a vanlifer most of what I care about at planet fitness.

Update2: The person at the front was unable to give me any good reason why 2 forms of payment would be needed any other place only needs one card and your subscription gets canceled if you don't pay why the need of 2 cards to force you to pay it seems like unnecessay.

I have been to over 20 different PF across the country. This is by far the best Planet Fitness. The two things make it so great is the overall size and layout of the gym. You have the free weight area, machines, abs/hip section, stretching area, 30 minutes area with the yellow machines, TRX and light dumbbells area, and tons of cardio equipment. The entire layout is organized and perfect. Additionally, the gym is always clean and all the cleaning gear is well stocked. Lastly the staff is great, very friendly and courteous.

If your insurance has a fitness benefit for senior citizens, this is your place! It is clean, spacious, and with showers and lockers. This Lakeside, CA, branch is on the 848 busline! The best thing about your membership is that there is a fitness trainer on site with person-to-person training sessions available to each member (hour appointments) at no charge!

Kids that look far too young to work out here sit on the machines on their cell phones or loiter around equipment with each other. Safety is a concern as there is a large homeless population in this area, and many pay minimum membership to use the bathrooms. Some of the same people camped out front all day are members. My friend was followed to her car by a fellow member who'd been staring at her in the gym. She approached the staff desk and was unable to find anyone to report this to. She's looking for a new gym. Cell phones have been used by male members to photograph women working out. Again, staff seems sparse at these times, and there is a general feeling for myself and other female members of not being safe. I personally have looked for staff to ask for help, or someone to walk me to my car at night and the desk has been empty. Despite feeling confident in my own self defense (trained in different methods) as well as being a former certified personal trainer ( I worked in the fitness/health club industry for several years as PT as well as management), even the cheap dues and convenience of the location is just not an environment I choose to put myself in anymore. I would not recommend it. For a similar price, you can do so much better.

Gym could be a lot better if it went back to the 24/7 schedule. Covid is over and this needs to be an abrupt change back to normality. Give people jobs and give people the ability to be fit again . Dont give 24 hour fitness and anytime fitness all your business. Use better business strategy and simply hire 3 more people to cover grave yard every night at each location. Love this PF. Staff is always friendly and gets to know their customers. This is the cleanest PF I've been to since I joined (2018). Black card member, tanning booths are always top notch, working bulbs the whole 9. Hydro massage never disappoints and full body enhancement is a great experience. They just got spray tanning, I personally hate spray tans but I've seen other members come out and it looks even and natural. Broken machines are always fixed in a timely manner. The layout ACTUALLY makes sense, some PF's are all over the place.

This PF definitely makes me feel welcome and comfortable to meet my fitness needs, they really adhere to the core values of the company.

Best gym I’ve been to!! Staff is warm and welcoming and the equipment is really well kept. I like that there are separate sections for hips and abs for more privacy, and the women’s locker room feels relaxing and cozy (never thought I would say that about a gym locker room lol). The spa and massage options for us black card members are also very nice. The value offered is way beyond what you pay for the monthly fee, even if you only make it once a week to workout. Highly recommend! 💯

I have always appreciated the PF facility, the equipment and the judgement free approach, but have been frustrated by the lack of a personal trainer. As a senior who has been away from regular exercise for a while, I would move from one piece of equipment to another, never feeling like I was optimizing my workouts and feeling a bit lost. Now I find PF does offer the help of a personal trainer. I met Josh Monday and he explained the program - and I’m all in! Josh seemed knowledgeable and personable and was sincerely interested my success. I’m very happy to work with my new personal trailer to get my routine, and my health back on track.

It was a terrible experience. My son and I went to cancel his Planet Fitness membership because he was heading to boot camp, which Planet Fitness did cancel. However, after five months, I noticed some charges from Planet Fitness. I called and spoke to the manager, Eva, who requested we come in again to cancel, which we couldn't do because my son is now in the military and no longer in California. Despite explaining the situation, Planet Fitness refused to refund the charges, even though we had canceled the membership due to my son's military service five months ago. I warned Eva that I would post about this on social media if they didn't honor our original agreement, but they didn't care. So, here it is: beware of Planet Fitness

In the last 6 months air quality has gotten very poor. I have COPD. chronic bronchitis to be specific. I've used this gym for about 2 years, but recently it's gotten so bad I have to leave within 10 minutes of entering somedays. They need thier a/c system serviced properly.
Both restroom scales are broken and different emoyees almost every month it seems. I'm guessing poor management at this point.

I've been to five locations in San diego. This is my favorite! It's the furthest away so I don't make it here very often. It's bigger than all the other locations that I've been to. They have heavier kettlebells then most of the other locations. The clientele are very nice although I find most of the people at Planet Fitness to be nice and helpful.

Actually been a member here for about 5 years. I’ve just kept my membership open during my health issues. Great location great staff friendly people a few gym lunks but still fun to workout here. Accommodating for my needs. I have anxiety around groups of people but not here. This place is large enough so I don’t feel claustrophobic and closed in. So I just go about my workout. One thing I need to say is that the restrooms get cleaned a lot but you have members that just don’t care if they throw water all over the place the floor the counters just like their own apartment. Not sure what’s up with those people but obviously they feel entitled to be that way. And hey, come on if you need to use a stall how about a courtesy flush before you paint the bowl and walk away. That said this place is awesome the staff is great hard working. Some people are never happy. I’ve gone through cancer treatment for 11 years and still just as positive as I have always been. Get with it haters, change your outlook and change your life and it’s so easy to do. Life is good

It's a great gym and it's super affordable. Unfortunately after early afternoon it turns into a daycare for all the local high school kids. They spend more time looking in the mirror, getting in the way, and acting a fool to impress each other than they do lifting a bar.
