Updating my review because the manager of this Planet Fitness did call me after leaving this review and explained that, yes I had cancelled when I thought I did. So they will refund me a months membership cost since I somehow had two memberships going at once apparently. I tried asking her how that happened and she wasn't quite sure why, I'm not sure either, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. However I did get my $24.99 back so I am thankful for that even though it was kind of a pain to get it back and I don't think I would have gotten it back without leaving my initial review which I have kept below here. Would have liked another free month or something for the hassle but oh well, I guess I didn’t ask to try and push it.

Why won’t this Planet Fitness refund me?

I liked using my planet fitness account while traveling. I haven’t been to this specific location in Madera but I picked it as my home base because it is in California. California law requires gyms to allow online cancellation while where I live in Minnesota there is not a state law requiring online cancelation so Planet Fitness does not provide online cancelation in Minnesota and many other states (lame and predatory).

Anyways I enjoyed using my black card membership while traveling. However I don’t plan to travel for a bit so I no longer need my PF membership. I thought I had cancelled the service however apparently I hadn’t, and was billed for another month.

I called five days after the charge explaining my situation and wondering if I could get a refund for the extra monthly charge. I was told they wouldn’t refund me because in my contract it says I will be charged at x time and if I don’t cancel by then I will be charged. I said ok I get that but I thought I had cancelled could I get a refund for this last charge? They still said no they wouldn’t refund me and that I can call my bank if I want to dispute the charge ( I tried that and don’t think it’s going to work.). I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to and the employee said no, she is the assistant manager and her manager would say the same thing that they wouldn’t refund the charge.

I told her I thought that was ridiculous they wouldn’t refund the charge and left it at that since it didn’t seem to be going anywhere. I get that “technically” they don’t have to refund me but like come on…would you help a guy out???

Anyways two stars because I did enjoy the membership up until the cancelation. Was nice having access to multiple gyms while traveling. But yeah predatory and lame that they won’t allow online cancelation in many states, making the cancelation process more difficult by forcing people to call and speak with a rep or go in person to cancel. Also unhappy that they won’t refund me and what I imagine are other people that would like a refund after forgetting to cancel. Not impressed by that customer service when other companies would be willing to refund a charge like that happily, especially since I’d spent ~$60 already with the company.

Overall good gym.
However sanitation in the bathrooms need improvement. The urinal grounds loo like mopping isn't doing it and need some deep cleaning. Smells like pee anyway of the week. Need some stronger sanitation products. With that fixed I think this gym is a gem in Madera.

I love my local gym in Madera because the staff is super friendly and the place is always clean, however, there tends to be a common deficiency when it comes to paper towel availability. They are either empty and not replaced, or have completely run out of paper towers all together and waiting on the order. Offering guests reusable hand towel towels to wipe down equipment is an infection control issue!! I would also like to suggest the addition of the cryotherapy bed at the Madera location. I understand space is limited but sacrificing a massage chair for a cryotherapy bed, would definitely be beneficial in our location.

I went in to sign up two months ago but the female staff kept ignoring me (should’ve been my first red flag) while I was signing up and every time I asked for help they made me feel like I was being a huge inconvenience when they were just standing around talking to each other
All I was told was that the first month was $1 and that from there I’d be charged 24.99 a month
But then I got charged 44.99 last month then again this morning 49
When I called they told me that it’s their annual fee and that should’ve been explained when I signed up

This gym has gotten packed with young teens that are breaking machines playing around like it’s a jungle gym, sitting on machines for over 30 mins on their phones with not one rep completed. I timed this. Bless the staff that is enforcing the rules for us Paying adults who don’t have 4 hours to be at a gym. Shame on the fact this gym turned into a day care. I am at the point where I would rather drive to Fresno. Please enforce the rules for these children so you don’t lose your paying customers. And thank you Bianca and Santos for always being so kind and helpful and making us paying members feel comfortable in a gym full of disrespectful kids!

Absolutely the worst Planet Fitness I’ve ever visited.
Many machines were out of service, and others were malfunctioning — clearly a result of poor or nonexistent maintenance. The bathroom area was dirty and neglected, and the showers had no hot water.
It’s shocking that management allows this location to operate in such poor condition. Thank God we don’t have gyms like this in Florida. This place needs a serious overhaul.

Disappointed by Staff Treatment After Over a Year of Positive Experience

I’ve been a member at the Madera, CA location for over a year with no prior issues. The facility is clean, and I appreciated having a space to work out consistently. Unfortunately, a recent interaction with staff made me feel disrespected and singled out, and ultimately led me to cancel my membership.

During my visit, I was approached by a staff member named Jr. regarding my gym bag. I noticed that other members also had bags but were not being approached. When I respectfully brought this up, my concern was dismissed. Jr. then referred me to Bianca, the on-duty supervisor. Rather than offering any support or fairness, she refused to provide contact information for corporate or franchise management and told me there was no one above her to speak with.

The way this situation was handled—deflective, defensive, and dismissive—left me feeling completely unheard. After being a loyal member for over a year, it was upsetting to experience such poor customer service and a lack of accountability.

I’ve canceled my membership and hope that this feedback encourages better training in professionalism and respectful communication. Members deserve to be treated with fairness and dignity.

I have mixed feelings honestly. In the first place I don't like the management, always looks bored, not very helpful and to be honest sometimes I don't think they jnow what they are doing. The machines maintenance ia not the best, you can see some machines out of order for weeks, seats that are cracked or cut ans loose nuts here and there that no make me feel very safe while use them. Then people overall have no consideration for others, many times some guys or girls take a machine and basically use that machine like is their personal one ans you can even wait 45 minutes before thei leave it. To no talk about the small groups of friends that literally get a machine, share between them and only them. On top of this I feel always uncomfortable also because how the people starry at you continously like you are doing something wrong. Then I dont get what si the point to have refrigerator for drinks if the drinks are hot and disgusting.

Mens bathrooms are always filthy and smell so bad like urine. There was a piece of gum and used band aide in the shower for weeks. Poorly operated facility, machines are always broken and not repaired for weeks on end. Very cold temp cant break a sweat even with a sweater. Dont ask to use massage room because they look bothered that you made them put down their phones to turn on machine. Especially the guys that work there. They act sassy and irritated miserable with their life or something. Very sad to see this and im not the only one.

I am new to the gym thing.

Been to this Planet Fitness twice trying to use the 30 minute circuit.

I have commented two times to the staff to move out the people who just take over the circuit machines. Today the lady at the front desk that I said something to said she would take care of it momentarily but did nothing. I had to ask the other users to move and point out the sign on the wall. This is NOT my job!!

One of the ladies overtaking the machines with her girl gang was standing around just taking selfies of her booty.

Rethinking the gym thing. So far not a good experience

Gym was very open, machines spaced out far enough from eachother. Dumballss max at 75.plenty of Smith machines, depending on the time you go. I'd say very clean for a gym that has so many people coming in and out.Worker that I talked to actually knew the fees and membership info as well. I'd say maybe 4-5 machines were down that I seen from being there, pretty big gym so not that noticeable. Also the black card for 24.99 is great when I know most people like taking someone to workout with. Bodybuilding wise this is a great gym. If I liked lifting heavy this wouldn't be the spot tho just saying.

If I could give a 0 I would. Jovi the manager was so disrespectfully rude to my daughter who called to cancel, I called back to talk to someone else who was nice, she grabbed the phone from him and spoke to me confrontationally rude thinking that I was my daughter. Upon asking for someone else she said she was the only manager and I said no there’s others, she said that I can wait til Monday, I said so there’s nobody else tomorrow she said no. She was ridiculously rude and was absolutely no help to us. I’ll be contacting corporate.

The harassment in this gym is real .... I signed up online and after signing up online I called to make sure that they had all the correct information and they said that they did & that I was good to go this was late September I believe so I started going to the gym in October they started telling me that I needed to update my payment information because supposedly my bank account didn't exist yet they were pulling the payments out of my debit card never missed a payment up to date then I started to get threats that my membership was going to get canceled if I didn't give them a banking account a routing number or a credit card to put on file as a second payment method so I went back online did it again and I received a confirmation email saying that everything has been updated I called the gym once again and one of the employees was actually able to repeat my routing and my account number back to me so it was confirmed that they did receive my information update now to November there's still threatening to cancel my account even though I haven't missed a payment the staff there is really rude they keep saying I signed a contract in one of the little boxes I checked I have to do comply to what they're saying even though I asked them to repeat what exactly does the contract say and they can't even tell me what it says they just say you check the little box most of the times the employees are rude always on their phones and always gossiping behind the desk yet I get harassed every single time I go in and check in because my account is not updated yet it's been confirmed that it has been .... and if you read the past comments of other customers you would see that this is not the first time it's happened it's happened prior not too long ago I suggest you think twice before I actually considering this gym as it's been a big problem and a headache to many people that signed up here... look for a better option
