This Manteca location is great, and the staff is very helpful. The only issue is that they close at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday — which feels too early for those who work on weekends & gets off late. Please keep it open Atleast 10 😂 but I also want to give a shoutout to Alex, who’s always in the men’s room cleaning and making sure everything is in order. He’s a great asset to this location.

I’ve been a regular member at Planet Fitness for the past five months, and overall, I’ve enjoyed working out here — the equipment is well-maintained, and the environment is usually friendly. However, my recent experience left me really disappointed.

While I was about to start my set, holding the bar and ready to lift, an employee came up and interrupted me because my gym bag was on the floor right next to the machine. He insisted that the bag needed to be in a locker immediately. I politely told him I’d put it away after finishing my set, but he demanded that I do it right then and there.

No one has ever mentioned this rule to me before in all the months I’ve been coming here, and the way he handled the situation completely disrupted my workout and ruined the rest of my session. I understand that rules are important for safety, but the situation could have been handled with more professionalism and respect.

It is way too over crowded at this gym. You barely can get a full workout in all the barbells and dumbbells being hogged and some of the guest don’t have no consideration of giving you space when using the gym machines like get out of my way! And how does a gym don’t have a bench press machine? They really need to get it together with this gym! I don’t too care for this Planet Fitness at all. I was there at 5am this morning And I noticed they were playing middle eastern music. I asked the girls why is this music on blasting. She told me that they get on and play music I thought it was a station that continuously plays music. If that's the case play all music Spanish, Chinese, philipino music we live in America if they want to hear their music listen to it on their phone we shouldn't have to listen to it. I’m very mindful of employees’ time, as I also work in customer service and retail. I always make sure to leave at least 10 minutes before closing, and I verify the hours on Google before going to ensure I have enough time for a good workout.

Today, I was asked to leave at 10 p.m., even though both Google and the official Planet Fitness website list this location as 24 hours. On my way out, I did notice a small sign on the counter stating “closes at 10 p.m.,” but I hadn’t seen it when I arrived. I’m sure the hours can easily be updated online to prevent confusion for members.

What really bothered me, though, was the way the situation was handled. One staff member shouted that it was closing time, and another asked if he could yell and tell people to leave on weekends—when she said yes, he responded, “Thank God,” which I found very unprofessional and rude.

It’s a great gym like most planet fitness gyms most equipment works a lot of them are broken but the worst part about this specific one is the lack of hygiene of the people that use this gym very bad body odor that you can smell from across the gym. The other day I used the preacher curl machine and couldn’t make it through my set because of the smelly sweat from the pad, I tried to wipe it down but the spray they offer here seems watered down or doesn’t offer any change to the scent of the padding on the machines. Other than the body odor of certain patrons this gym is great the only thing I would change is adding a rule to make sure people use deodorant or at least shower before coming to the gym.

I so appreciate the staff and cleanliness of this location. I recently visited the updated Stockton location and was appalled at how filthy the showers were. 4 showers filled with hair and dirt.

Over the short time its been open its only gone downhill. I would say at least 20% of their equipment is broken at all times.
I've noticed that people just leave their equipment where it is and or without wiping it down.
It is overcrowded at all times. Even if you go early hours or late in the evening.
Very limited free weights especially dumbbells.
If you're thinking of going to this gym for the price, factor in the frustration.

My Worst Experience with Planet Fitness – A Warning to Others

I’ve never had such a frustrating and disappointing experience with a fitness club as I’ve had with Planet Fitness. Despite canceling my membership on October 24, 2024, I was still charged monthly, totaling over $100 since November 2024.

When I noticed the charges, I immediately contacted both the Manteca and San Jose locations, as well as ABC Financial (their billing service). Unfortunately, dealing with them was a complete runaround. No one took real responsibility, and I was continuously told that my account was still active—even though I had already cancelled it.

I made it very clear that I had not stepped foot in any Planet Fitness location since my cancellation date. Even worse, I provided them with screenshot proof from the Planet Fitness app showing that my account status was inactive. Still, they refused to acknowledge the issue or issue a refund.

To make matters worse, the app and account system itself are unreliable. It’s completely unacceptable for a national brand to have such disorganized account management and zero accountability when it comes to handling members’ money.

This has been the worst customer service experience I’ve had with any gym, and I do not recommend Planet Fitness to anyone. If you value transparency, accurate billing, and basic customer support—look elsewhere.

Plot twist: Planet Fitness might actually be genius, and I’m here for it.
I walked into Planet Fitness expecting to hate it (thanks, internet), but six months later I’m writing a love letter to the purple paradise that changed my relationship with fitness forever.
Why Planet Fitness is Actually Brilliant:
$10/month - While other gyms are charging the GDP of small nations, PF said “What if fitness wasn’t financially traumatic?” Revolutionary concept, honestly.
The Judgment-Free Zone is REAL - I’ve worn my rattiest t-shirt, forgotten deodorant, and accidentally used a machine backwards. Nobody cared. Nobody stared. I just… existed and worked out. Wild.
Pizza Mondays & Bagel Tuesdays - Listen, other gyms pretend you’re going to meal prep quinoa forever. PF knows you’re human and sometimes humans need carbs. This isn’t enabling, it’s emotional intelligence.
The Beautiful Reality:
This place is full of regular people doing regular people things. Soccer moms getting their steps in. College kids figuring out adulting. Retirees staying active. Night shift workers squeezing in workouts. It’s like the most diverse, wholesome community center that happens to have treadmills.
The equipment? Perfectly adequate for 99% of fitness goals. Unless you’re training for the Olympics, you don’t need to deadlift a Honda Civic. The massage chairs and HydroMassage beds are practically therapeutic, and the red light therapy booth makes me feel fancy.
The Staff Actually Rocks:
They’re genuinely helpful without being pushy. No aggressive personal training sales pitches. Just “Hey, need help with anything?” followed by actual useful help. Refreshing.
The Real MVP Move:
Planet Fitness figured out that the biggest barrier to fitness isn’t lack of equipment - it’s intimidation. They removed the intimidation factor entirely. You can’t fail at Planet Fitness because there’s no standard to fail. You just show up and move your body. That’s it. That’s the whole assignment.
Plot Twist Moment:
I’m in the best shape of my adult life, and it happened at the gym everyone loves to mock. Turns out consistency beats intensity, and $10 beats $80 when it comes to showing up regularly.
Final Verdict:
Planet Fitness isn’t trying to be everything to everyone - it’s trying to be something accessible to anyone. Mission accomplished. While fitness influencers argue about optimal workout splits, I’m over here actually working out consistently for the first time in years.
Rating: 5/5 stars - Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s perfectly designed for real humans with real lives and real budgets.

The gym is nice and somewhat clean. I have couple of comments that needs attention right away. First, the machines are broken half of the time and it takes months before it gets fixed. The wires are always broken. You would think that those kind of parts would be in stock and readily available to get fixed. Secondly, there aren’t any window shades!! In summer months, the sun hits you directly if you are on any number of machines. Lastly, is a suggestion. If you could please change the opening time on the weekends. 6am would be better. Thanks.

Staff is super friendly. The personal trainer guy (not sure his name) is a super cool dude and very helpful especially with any tips on working out. The manager has weeded out all the staff that was rude or obnoxious so everyone there are really nice folks. I go there every other day and spend a couple hours there so I'm there all the time the only complaint that I have has nothing to do with the staff or the facility it has to do with members abusing the equipment or sitting on the equipment while on their phones not working out which then hijacks the equipment from people who are trying to work out

I have no idea how my account ended up at the Manteca location since I've never been there, but dealing with their management was a nightmare. I tried for a year to get my membership canceled, but the manager never returned my calls, and every time I spoke with the front desk they apparently didn't care enough to leave any notes on my account.

When I finally got the manager on the phone, she claimed there were no notes about my previous requests and then refused to cancel my membership, even though I hadn't used it in a year. She also refused to waive the overdue fees and wouldn't give me district contact info or confirm when I could expect a call back. The lack of professionalism and customer service here is beyond frustrating.

Thankfully, Miela at the Lodi location handled everything in one call. She canceled my membership and waived the fees without any hassle, something the Manteca manager claimed she couldn't do.

If you think you might ever need to cancel your membership or get customer service assistance, I highly suggest avoiding this gym. The lack of communication and accountability here is ridiculous.

Nice people, nice location. But when you're old and skinny and you've been camping and your grubby and the locker room is freezing, you need hot water in the shower. I have visited Planet Fitness locations all over the nation and it's rare that the shower water is just downright cold. Do better, Manteca! The gym is affordable at $10-$15/month, but you get what you pay for. Machines are often out of order for weeks (e.g., 2/3 of the cable machines have been down for over a month), and there's always something broken. It gets very crowded in the weekday evenings and weekend mornings, so plan to visit outside those times if possible. The lack of squat racks (only Smith machines and cables) and insufficient benches can be frustrating. Overall, it gets the job done.

Bathrooms are apparently cleaned often but they always smell like urine especially near the sinks. Maybe spray more odor eliminating stuff in there?

Been lifting for years and wanted to share my honest thoughts about this gym. After spending some time here, I've got to say - it's pretty basic and has some real issues.

Let's talk about equipment first. If you're used to a proper gym setup, you'll be disappointed. They're heavy on machines, which isn't necessarily bad, but the free weight section is seriously lacking. There are a few racks of dumbbells, but that's about it. No Olympic bars, no bumper plates, no proper power racks - basically none of the essential equipment you need for serious strength training. Sure, you can still get a workout in, but you'll be pretty limited in what you can do.

The facility itself needs some serious maintenance. The bathroom situation is rough - there's a constant urine smell that just hits you as soon as you walk in. Most of the equipment is showing serious wear and tear, with torn-up benches and seats everywhere. The machines are covered in dust, which honestly makes you wonder about the overall cleanliness of the place.

Space is another big issue. During peak hours (especially after work), it gets insanely crowded. The layout isn't great to begin with, and when you add too many people, it becomes almost impossible to maintain any kind of workout flow. You'll spend more time waiting for equipment than actually using it.

On the positive side, I'll give credit where it's due - the staff is genuinely friendly and helpful. Also, if you're looking for post-workout food, there are plenty of good options in the area.

Look, I'm not saying don't join - it might work if this is your only option or if you're just starting out and mainly want to use machines. But if you're serious about your training, you might want to look into other gyms in the area. Sometimes spending a bit more on a membership is worth it for the right equipment and environment.

3 GOLD stars. Staff is friendly and you could get a basic workout in, if you could deal with the wear and tear.

PLANET SLUM- This planet fitness got bought out by new franchise owner. And the new owner is TERRIBLE. I think I'm gonna switch to another gym in town because:

– They just kicked me out at 9 PM on a Sunday due to reduced times, it used to be open 24 hours a day seven days a week.

– They don't have enough weights, shortage of weights and they're always strewn across the gym by different people.

– Poor condition of the equipment and interior of the building. Benches are peeling, water damaged nonfunctional TVs on the ceiling, walls falling apart, out-of-order machines etc

– the dip assist machine breaks 2 to 3 times a year for 2 to 3 months at a time, it SUCKS

– the "filtered" drinking water machine or filtration is not maintained. That water smells worse than a public chlorinated swimming pool in the summer. They don't even care that the light on it doesn't indicate that the water is good or bad anymore.

The Planet Fitness - - At least here in Manteca - - is HORRIBLE. There is no maintenance person on-staff so when machines break down, they're down for months at a time. With all those workout machines and all their associated moving parts, you would think that they would implement some sort of preventive maintenance program, but NOOOOO, they wait for a machine to fall apart, then they put in a 'work order' for repair and then it's at least one month before it gets fixed, and usually several months. You get what you pay for - - - - Sure, they're only $9.99 / month, but you take your chances every day when you walk in just to see what machines are up-and-running. The only reason they're getting a 2-star from me is because the staff is very friendly and the facility is kept pretty clean, otherwise they'd get zero or one star.

One of the worst gyms in the area. They used to be decent and 24/7 until December 2023 when they were bought out by an east coast investment group. The first thing these geniuses did was reduce the hours of the gym. More equipment sits broken for longer because all they care about is maximizing profits while disregarding the customer and their needs. The bathrooms smell like urine and the hand dryer is broken. They usually do not have handsoap in the bathroom and lately their AC broke down and they have not fixed it in the last week, so everyone in there is working out in a humid sauna basically and the whole place reeks if everyone's body oder. DO not sign up for this cheap business.

I travel for work and by far this planet fitness in Manteca is the cleanest, friendliest and most comfortable I have been at since I joined.

Showers and bathrooms are cleaned hourly and the staff goes out of the way to say hi and engage.

The black card area is so clean everything works unlike lots of PF I have been too.

Thank you for making me feel great at the gym.

I've been using Planet Fitness for the last six years w/a membership at Manteca for over 2 years but commuted to Silicon Valley & mainly used clubs in that area. Manteca location has gone through a lot of changes. It's had a couple of different managers. Jordan was super nice and called everybody by name. Although overall this is one of the cleaner locations and well-organized floor, the high level of cleanliness started slipping after he left. They were open 24 hours and everybody was happy because that's what they signed up for. Ironically, the main PF info still says all their locations are 24 hrs. There's are no discount for the huge cutback in hours.
At some point this location started closing on holidays and not just Christmas but the 4th of July, Mother's Day and Snail Appreciation Day. I realized it's the trend for the Me too generation but it's really doesn't make sense from a business perspective.
Although in my younger years I was in bodybuilding competitions, I've been doing mainly circuit, treadmill and massage chairs. And for those who are bad at math, that's $180 extra per year to have access to the Black Card area. Over the past 2yrs I've dealt with lazy employees who tell me the chair is out of order when I already know it's just that they need to manually start that 2nd chair.
They know me at this location.
Today I came in at 8:35p and the snarky 17 year old told me I'm sorry but you don't have time to get on the massage chair because we have to close that area by 8:45. I asked for the manager and she said "Actually, the manager is who told me no one can be back there after 8:45". The current mgr being the bossy stone-faced chub who picks on certain people re the over abundance of silly rules.
Between them closing at the 8:45p on Friday & Sat night - when 9-5ers finally have extra time after wrapping up the long week - and all the other many changes such as the filthy water fountain and the out of order signs, and the "don't ask to work in" signs (Wait Your Turn) and the unfriendliness from the regular staff, I'm just done. I'm canceling my membership and going to a real gym that appreciates my money.
I recommend that unless you are willing to put up with the huge mood swings of this location, & anti-American attitude from the chain, you should go elsewhere for your Fitness needs. Super disappointed in the attitude I got tonight.
For $25/mo, you can go to a real gym.
Update: I've started my own routine at home using good old fashioned Tae Bo & P90X, got a massage chair insert from Amazon & have actually lost 15 lbs. I was asked by corporate why I ended my membership and they told me NONE OF THEIR FRANCHISES HAVE PERMISSION TO CLOSE ever and that part of the training is to always be friendly.

This gym is overcrowded, and the bathroom/shower room is dirty, stinky, and running out of hand soap all the time. The floors are dirty and wet. The staff at the front desk are very rude, don't know how to say hi, and basically have no customer service at all. I am wondering why this gym is hiring some people who hate to welcome you daily to the gym, and whenever they see you walk in, they look the other way to ignore you. I hope the gym management will pay attention to these points, and it will be helpful.

Had a class yesterday and by far was Amazing, hilarious and motivating. The trainer challenges you to your max which many don’t do, that push is what helps to keep going. Friendly, knowledgeable, respectful, just over all Positive experience, since this isn’t my home club I will definitely be coming back. Appreciate the staff who helped me get a class shout out to you cause I wouldn’t have been able to experience that if it wasn’t for your help! Appreciate it

I was originally in a $39.00 annual contract since 2022. I was recently charged $49.00 for the annual fee. When checking my contract files, someone initiated a cancellation Without my knowledge last year and created a new contract the same day with a random abbreviation where the MEMBER’S signature should be while a Justin Smitt authorizated.

It’s not even about the $10 increase. It’s the principal and the way you guys went about it.

The management and workers make this the best gym in Manteca. They feel like friends and family. Makes me want to keep going. The management has done a fabulous job at making this PF a desirable location to go to. I just wish the maintenance kept up better with making sure all the machines stay in tip-top shape.

Staff is rude.
Place is always a mess.
People film themselves in the bathroom (this is illegal), and staff doesn't really do anything to stop it.
But I have a big water bottle and they take the chance to ring the stupid alarm and have a laugh. Spineless in enforcing real policies (and the law) and happy to make customers feel bad for wanting to be hydrated. Very weird priorities, so I'm out.

It is a good place but it seems that the maintenance of the equipment is not their priority, there are machines that have been broken for more than a year and it does not seem that they will be fixed soon, every day there is more machines like this

The last place I want to workout here.
Some of the equipment is from the time of jesus era, the EZ barbells are loose, leg equipment are out of order and some equipment scream louder in pain. The front desk has no clue who or when they going to fix. They keep on saying next week and Idk when would that arrive.

Update: It's been 7 weeks now and 3 weeks since I added a comment. Still those equipments aren't fixed and some benches are torn. And about ETA, the response will be it's always the next week. Hoping them to be fixed as early as 2025.
