I absolutely love Planet Fitness. I have been working out there for years which has totally benefitted my health, wellness, and fitness. The facility is clean and the staff super friendly and helpful! I LOVE the recent improvements and additions they've made: they have a new strength training section, many new state-of-the-art machines, and I'm really enjoying the new spin bicycles with screens that take me on exciting visual bike tours. I always look forward to my workout there!

I am so disappointed that my 30 minute workout space has vanished!! I always went directly to the circuit training area in Yellow which was separate from the rest of the purple work out area. I felt comfortable there, more so than the regular gym area. I am a Black Card member and am really not looking forward to returning to Planet Fitness. Please bring it back!!

I gave this specific planet fitness a 3 because the fact they have more treadmills instead of weights machines show that they prioritize another aspect of physical activity instead of the most important aspect of muscle building and there store hours are lowkey terrible because unlike other planet fitness gyms that are 24 hours, they close around 10 pm getting rid of people who genuinely want to go through physical activity for health but never have enough time in the day.

The changes they made to the gym are HORRIBLE. Want some advice? Here goes: If it ain't broke don't fix it. They make absolutely no sense and apparently hired some outside firm that "specializes" in reorganizing gyms. My advice was free. They also took out or moved lots of the cardio equipment. Why? And now there is a really long half empty row in front of where the treadmills used to be.

This is my first Google review, but I had to post something. PF in Petaluma reduced the number of bikes from 9 to 4 and only 2 are recumbent. Due to physical limitations, I’m only able to use the recumbent for aerobic exercise. I’m considering cancelling my membership if additional bikes are not added.

They just did a little remodel on the place and took out all the machines that I was using daily. I loved my little 30 minute workout circuit with the stairsteps and keeping the cardio up in between the exercises. Just starting to actually see some results and lost a little weight And now it’s gone.

What I've been told us that the high school kids get free access to the gym which is going if you're there to work out as a high school kids but bad if they just go to hang out

The staff really try their best to keep up the gym condition. Used to be top notch. The past few months, equipment is showing wear and not getting replacements for torn and cracking equipment surfaces. Today they were out of paper for wiping down equipment after use. I used to go here all the time but I moved recently and came this week while visiting. The last day the older woman who works there came up and yelled at me for having my small gym bag on the floor, which was tucked under my bench. I understand the rules completely but she was so rude and condescending. Then only singled me out while the guy next to me had this HUGE backpack stuffed full just sitting next to the bench not tucked away. Either make everyone follow the rules or change them. It's ridiculous, I came here for 5 years and won't be back now. Definitely not a 'judgement free zone'.

The problem here is that the location is overall decently set up in terms of machines and the space is open. Like many gyms, it lacks for free weights which seem to be constantly hogged by guys doing their little mini circuits, often using two benches at a time.
But what was truly frustrating was this exceptionally bad management of the doors during December wherein they had to sharply limit the number of people coming who could be inside at one time. The gym was essentially unusable for a week. I'm not sure if it was a real problem or just a way to deal with staffing issues during the holidays but it was very annoying and poorly handled. I cancelled my membership as a result and once I saw that the manager's email was a gmail address (as in they're too cheap to have a proper company email) it left an even worse taste in my mouth.

I recently joined Planet Fitness in Petaluma, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience! The gym is always clean and well-maintained, creating a welcoming environment. The variety of equipment is impressive, catering to all fitness levels, and I love that it’s never overcrowded. The staff are friendly and helpful, always a warm greeting when you enter. I also appreciate the "Judgment Free Zone" philosophy—it makes working out feel comfortable and motivating. No intimidation. Plus, the membership price is incredibly reasonable for all the amenities offered.

It makes me so happy to come back to the Bay Area and come to this location. It’s pristine, the staff is awesome and there is so much equipment (including 4 hydro massage machines)… it makes working out here great! Wish NYC/Brooklyn was as good as this gym! Honestly the equipment is in perfect condition and you don’t have to wait for equipment or for weight hoarders to put the weights back so others can use them - totally civilized, respectful and clean!

I love my PF family!!! The gym is for sure my second home, and that is even more true when the staff and atmosphere at the gym is friendly, accepting and fun. The manager Jillian has PF on LOCK! It’s clean, well taken care of and safe. Maddie, Michael, Matthew, Anubis and Eric are all extraordinary employees. I cannot say more good things about it. And yes- lot of people can say that other gyms are better for a lot of reasons- and as someone who trains for strength, physique, and health, I have had no problem with my gains here (it’s about consistency, commitment and diet too!)

I travel a lot between CA, OR, and NY so I joined PF a few years ago as a Black card member. The PS in Petaluma is my hands down favorite. Planet Fitness in Petaluma, California has proven to be a great gym to call home. I am a former collegiate athlete and lifetime gym rat, so I was skeptical about joining planet fitness to begin with, simply because of their laid back approach to the gym culture. However, I must say that the culture that Jillian and her team have established, is second to none. Jillian is a ray of sunshine; she greets each member at the front counter with a warm smile, sincere greeting, and an abundance of energy. She gets your gym experience/workout started the right way. Furthermore, she has great interpersonal skills and connects with members of all ages and backgrounds. If there is an issue at the facility, Jillian is on top of it and has it resolved as soon as possible. I see her mentoring her young staff and teaching them how to be professionals; how to interact with members; to take pride in their work. Quite a few members will stop at the front desk on their arrival or departure to catch up with Jillian, because she has built rapport with each of them. As a leader and business owner, I am very impressed with Jillian and can truly say, she has made my experience at Planet Fitness extraordinarily better. I hope Planet Fitness realizes what type of asset they have...

I enjoy this club for the massaging machines that help me with my arthritis and the circuit training that helps me lose weight and stay in shape. The crew members are very polite and courteous. But, it can get crowded and especially with the kids crowding the machines and showing disrespect to elders, along with sitting on the machines not working out and either talking on their phones or talking with the other kids around them.

Down graded to 3 stars. Could be 5 stars, but facility is under staffed. The 30 Minute Express workout area is meant to be timed by a red light / green light system to use all 20 stations in 30 minutes. However, it is now overrun with people who occupy stations for 5 to 15 minutes, mostly sitting and texting. I asked staff if there was a time set aside, like 1 hour in the evening for people who want to do the Express Workout as designed. Short answer is no, and they don't care that the area is unusable for the Express Workout.

Finally put up a sign to let the 30 Minute Express Circuit be completed in 30 minutes. Rerated to 5 stars. Thankyou PF.

So far so good, I have only been a member for a month. Tim and Jillian seem provide a great example for the younger staff concerning issues important to members, such as cleanliness, being helpful and they all care about the members concerns.
There are a couple of pieces of equipment that need work, but Im not real concerned because the leadership is aware of the problems and are doing what they can to get them fixed. Keep up the great work!

The definitely need at least one more Pec Fly/Rear Delt machine. There are always folks hanging around it waiting to get on. They could lose 25% of their cardio machines and replace them with additional weight machines and still have too many cardio machines. That said, I do like the gym and go there daily.

FOLLOW-UP: This is responding to management's response: I, and many others, have talked to the club manager about getting a new Pec Fly/Rear Delt machine (many times). We are always told he can do nothing about it.

The gym itself is fine and it is affordable. The problem is that ever since Covid, they have significantly cut the hours and seem to have no intention of going back. A major gym closing at 7:00 PM on a Saturday is just annoying. What good is a gym if you can't use it. I guess all I can do is voice my displeasure here although I doubt it will do anything.

Update 01/22/2024: this place has become a teenager hangout outside of school hours. While I’m glad they are not doing worse things, their time here is often a little working out, a lot of texting and hanging out on the equipment, making it hard to get a workout in. Sadly, I will be checking out other gyms even though this one is conveniently located for me.

Not bad, not amazing. It’s a place to workout. It’s clean and has a decent variety of weights, machines and cardio. It’s great for the price. No classes though, no foam rollers, and little space for stretching. Machine layout/organization could definitely be improved. Bathrooms are fine, but I don’t use the showers.

Front desk is friendly when they aren’t scrolling on their phones. Half the time they don’t look up to acknowledge you, but when they do they are very friendly.

Black Card Fitness members get use of the massage chairs, hydrotherapy chairs and tanning beds, which are a nice perk.

Overall good bang for your buck if you just want an affordable, clean place to get your workout in.

I've gotten there and had to leave because every single piece of popular equipment was being used. I go a bit later now to the 24hr location in Rohnert Park. Would LOVE to see this one go 24hrs. I had a nice workout. No waiting for machines. The main area was clean, well organized, and a lady was wiping down the front door windows. That's a good sign, right? Nope. After my workout, I was looking forward to a nice relaxing shower. The ladies showers were super dirty and the water was freezing. My workout buddy said the mens showers were the same. Not enough room to properly stretch. Theres not enough space for multiple people to do ab exercises, either. The shower stalls are hilariously cramped and the changing stalls don't have benches. This location needs a redesign and some equipment removed from the "stretching" area because it's cramped. Barely any floor space. These are things management cant fix easily and I doubt they'll happen, but other gym goers need to be aware. At least it's clean, though.

The equipment was in good condition. The gym was generally clean and cleaning supplies mostly stocked. All members were wearing masks during my workout. There was minimal weight slamming. The men’s showers need to be cleaned with a scrub brush and shower curtains need to be replaced— both have mold. Otherwise, a nice gym.

Generally it's fine at this gym for $10/mo. I cancelled my Black Card membership since I've decided to not use tanning beds or the Hydro massage. The cleanliness is an ongoing issue at this location that I don't think will ever resolve. Those things are used more than the changing stalls and the showers and those are two very dirty places in the gym. Nothing worse than getting dressed after a shower and having to dust off ur feet before putting ur socks on.. The shower curtains always have orange mildew and the same dirt, hair, tissue, etc can be on the floor in the changing stalls or showers for a week or more.
Now there's staffing issues lately. As I was getting out of my car today, I watched a gentleman lock all the doors and take off in a hurry when he saw me and it's only 2:30pm. It's the weekend and they close earlier at 7pm usually. However this is the 2nd time since the New Year they've closed around 2-3pm that I've been whiteness to. There's absolutely no warning for clients except a note on the door once they've already gotten here. Since writing this review, I've seen 12 people go up to the door and try to get in. It's very disappointing. There is an app for your business that doesn't really do much of anything except check you in. Might want to tell your developers maybe communications on the gym being closed through that app would be helpful, maybe even membership due date reminders, paying your membership, all that could be helpful on the app rather than just a scan bar.
Oh, another gentleman just came out and left in a hurry when he saw me in my car typing on my phone. So there were two people working and this whole time people have been coming up to the door he's just been hiding in there. He waited till it was all clear and ran out, here comes another couple to the door and they're locked and it looks like one of them might use this as their physical therapy-not today apparently, it's unfortunate. Nobody could cover today? Including either of the two young men who were here when I first pulled up? Neither one of them could possibly stay until 7? Might be worth it to find maybe slightly older employees or those who have more of a work ethic than these very young people who want to go do something on a nice Saturday. I get it, I've managed people most of my career and I know it's hard to find good solid employees, but 9/10 of the employees here lean on the counter and discuss what JC classes they're in or trying to out gangsta each other with a better story competition or flirting.
There is one I actually see somewhat regularly and is always busy cleaning and has been very helpful to me more than once. I really wish I'd caught her name before I wrote this but she's an African American gal and she's probably your star employee. If you can't give her a raise than offer her more hours if she'd like them cuz she deserves some recognition and a show of appreciation.

If they would enforce the mask mandate and policy i would give them five stars. When I started working out here everyone wore their masks properly and they would enforce. Unfortunately too many people had no mask on or under their nose. Helpful employees and clean gym, but not enough people to man the desk and enforce the rules on the floor. Maybe it’s an off day and will come back later this week to give it another shot.
Update:
Been coming back for a while and masks seem to be enforced and staffing (while been an issue for all service businesses) is quite good. Would be nice to have a squat rack/area but being picky.

Great equipment in a spacious clean gym. They preach “social fitnessing/distancing” and being “cleansiderate” by wiping down equipment etc .. but the gym staff does not enforce proper mask wearing. There are always gym members running on the treadmills with their mask pulled down below their noses and in some cases below their chin. Some gym members workout with their masks pulled down below their noses. The staff does nothing. It gives the appearance that they don’t want to upset their gym members by asking them to properly wear a mask. Proper mask etiquette is being considerate of all members and the staff should remind everyone.

I came today to join a gym for the first time in years and the employee behind the counter wouldn't or couldn't give me a straight answer regarding how to get started. I asked about a trainer to show me the machines and build a plan for my goals and was told to just scan the QR codes on the machines. She was really aloof, like she didn't want to be there. I came dressed to workout and motivated only to learn I can't sign up for membership at the gym, only through the app and would be on my own to figure it out. Friendly staff, clean, and not too crowded. Inexpensive memberships. No classes I'm aware of right now. Tanning beds, Water Massage chairs/beds. Clean showers, with private changing rooms.

Good little gym with great staff. Sadly, the owner doesn’t prioritize keeping the machines in working order. The below shown bikes have been out of order for over three weeks. I ask every week when they’ll be fixed, to which the staff reply that the owner has someone scheduled to come in to fix them. Also, if you need to workout in the evening, it’s very crowded. The broken machines exacerbate the issue by creating long waits for cardio machines.

Al principio antes de tener tu Membresía te prometen unas cosas pero ala hora de que ya estás asistiendo al GYM todo cambia para Mal yo soy miembro del Gym de petaluma. Y ya no sirve el wifi y una Máquina de Aser ejercicio que ya reporte ala Samaná que empezar a ir y no an hecho nada osea no an arreglado ni la maquinA ni el Wifi.

I really like working out here. Good price, The locker rooms are nice, has several showers, it's never busy but even if it gets busy there are plenty of machines to use and it is sooo nice ending my workout with the hydro message. The only thing I wish it had was a pool.

I change over to planet fitness from 24hr and I couldn't be happier. I come early. Ever morning I come in Iand see Erik L cleaning. Every morning! By far the cleanest gym I've gone too. Thanks Erik L and keep up the great work. We appreciate you!

The staff here are friendly and keep the place running well and running clean. The equipment on the main floor isn’t the best or most varied, and there isn’t a whole of room for stretching. However, with such a low monthly fee even for their premium Black Card membership, I’d say it’s more than worth it.

Fantastic! I’ve been to over 30 Planet Fitness locations and this has to be the best! This facility is very large and has every possible necessity for getting in shape! The staff are very friendly and the manager Anthony was just awesome! I had an issue with the shower water being lukewarm. He went out of his way to have it fixed, and even remembered me the next time! Who even acknowledges today? It’s very clean, the men’s locker room is spacious and well lit. Parking is ample and plenty of options to refuel after the workout. Overall a very positive experience.
