My best friend has a planet fitness Black Card membership and so I get in as a guest. I think it’s frustrating and not fair that they are the only ones that are able to use things such as tanning beds, massages, and hydro massages. I get they are the ones paying but if they are bringing me to workout with them, I feel it’s fair that guests are also able to use them too. Especially if Planet Fitness wants more traction and customers. I also think the amount of effort you have to go to so you can cancel a membership is INSANE. To cancel her membership, planet fitness workers asked my sister to post them a hand written letter stating why she wanted to cancel her membership. I think it’s a total scam. Sure it’s cheaper than some places, but now I’m waiting here for my friend because I was refused to use any extra special equipment.

Im updating my original review with my personal experience training here for most of the last couple of years.
Currently its mid October 2025.
I dont train here for crossfit nor free weight body building or as a person looking for state of the art amenities for under $30 monthly as a blackcard member myself I love having all the perks I use and its unbeatable price.
Also after personally witnessing grown men making the lockers locked while empty or leaving the facilities dirty immediately after staff cleaned up is not a reflection on Planet Fitness staff.
People break things that require time to repair.
The staff here are awesome. They are professional and helpful.
They made my check ins easier after I downloaded their app.
And in response to crowding during summer being inconvenient to some people, its because Planet Fitness affords students free training which helps our kids have a place to learn to workout.
Teach others gym etiquette, correct those who make lockers ,showers, and the bathrooms a mess.
I wont blame PF or a staff member for the immaturity of the few and rare patrons.
Lots of us are regulars training here often for a few years now.
Give this gym your time, train often and change for the better.

Not in a nice area. Too busy. The treadmill I was on was shaky. I like to tan there but it’s standing only. Several bulbs are burnt out. It’s not as clean as I’d like to see. I canceled my membership because I don’t use it enough. Employees are nice. I wanted to get with a trainer but couldn’t… which is supposed to be included in my membership. I wasted a lot of money for years and kinda wish I never signed up.

Will not be going here as I don’t appreciate staff’s attitude which are condescending and rude. They put you on massage chairs where patrons are already seated without checking. Spa equipment is broken or doesn’t work right and getting someone on the phone to help is not likely either. Called three times and first time was told that staff could do nothing about background noise that was louder than they were on the phone LOL. What the point of having a phone then? It’s too much of a nuisance for me to come here.

Dude with the long hair will harass you and play with words to force you to download an app to gain access to the gym when it is NOT required, calling over the phone does nothing given the men do not listen to what is being asked, and I have been billed twice for an annual fee without any explanation or answers as to when I'll be refunded.

Cons: This is a big one for me and is the reason I removed 2 stars. This gym only has one employee working in the morning. Often times the front desk is abandoned so the employee can clean. (no issue with him. Not his fault the owner is being frugal.) I end up having to chase down an employee to schedule amenities. This is an annoyance and waste of my time. Time is precious, hire another person for the morning.

Love this gym. Yes it gets crowded but im always able to finish my workouts! Sean a trainer at that gym needs to be more curtious when asking guests to move to a different spot when giving those 30 minutes classes. On two different occasions I witnessed him asking two young girls that where already working out and into it to move, just like that he had them move no please and no thank you😠 I myself asked them if they wanted to workout where I was, i left just to give em my spot. Because i felt so bad he did that to them young girls. Second time it was my son on a different different day. He wasnt even using that spot, I told my son he should workout there. Sean turns around and say yoo hey yoo you need to move im using that spot, my poor son gets up, I was watching w anger while working out and didnt say anything to not ruin anyones workout. Again he didnt say please and thank you nothing just his ugly I work here you gotta listen to me look😡 we pay for going this isnt free and he needs to learn how to talk to people. It took him more than 30 to actually use that spot like are u serious, Next time I wont stay quiet.

Dude with the long hair doesn't have proper communication skills for the job. He wwas forcing me to download the PF app before checking in and wouldn't let me use my number. Saying specifically that the reason for the app is in case he isn't at the front to check me in, it makes everyone's life easier... I was honest by telling him I don't want to use the app because I do not have space for it on my phone, but he refused to listen to what I was saying and continued repeating that I need to download the app. At this point, he was making me visibly uncomfortable.. especially when a dude was still using a key tag with a barcode to check in.
This absolutely is the strangest encounter I've had with another human in any gym...

I honestly had a really bad experience at this gym. I had already paid for a full membership, but they still wouldn’t let me work out. It felt like they were just making it weird and difficult for no reason to let me get started. There was one lady in particular who just seemed super unfriendly and made me feel like I didn’t belong there. She had a terrible negative attitude and was very controlling towards the other staff around her. I came in excited to start working out and left feeling annoyed and completely unwelcome. To be competitive honest I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially if you’re a teenager IN HIGH SCHOOL trying to get into fitness. They made what should’ve been a positive experience really frustrating and IMPOSSIBLE.

I had a concern about Planet Fitness hours in San Diego .
Outside San Diego there are many locations that offer 24 hrs availability. The staff on duty was able to explain the issues concerning this.
Even though l am not from California staff stated as a planet fitness member l could still voice my concerns by email to the appropriate departments because members views and opinions are important to planet fitness organization.

This use to be my home gym after after covid.. loved it .. it wasn’t packed everyone was friendly!!! Now I go to the one on Euclid due to it being closed for maintenance Iv been coming to this one for the time being .. and it has a steady amount of people it does seem like it gets crowded cause it is a smaller gym.. they have a lot of good equipment and machines also .. staff is friendly .. you do have some gym hoggers or those who sit there on their phone on a machine which is very annoying but hey that’s their time to waste not mine.. overall it’s a decent gym..but I’m looking forward to going back to mine 😭 soon hopefully!

Good equipment, helpful staff, chill environment I go early on in the day as the evenings can get a little packed, and the app has some pretty cool things like guided workouts. For a gym beginner like me this place works out really great and for 25 $ a month for a black card pass you can’t beat that. Decent gym, friendly staff however one problem, the lockers often wont open and today i foujd myself luckily with a towel having to run and flag someone down for help... what if i didnt have a towel? Anyway i spent a good 20 minutes teying to get in and even cut myself on the lock mechanism. Then finally after getting help i had to describe what i had in there "backpack and clothes" a good indication that it was my locker was the fact that i walked in with clothes on i shouldn't have had to wait so long to get help, i get that you cant just have someone in there all the time but you could put a phone or help button since its such a common occurance this has happened multiple times to me in the past but luckily there was somone around that i could ask to go get help. Anyway im thinking about switching to a less humiliating gym and one that doesnt result in injuries fron tring to get into a locker lol. Currently checking into 24hr firness or maybe the ymca

Always a great experience here. I wish they had some of the newer equipment that counted reps and cool down time, but that's not an actual problem. I noticed that a lot of people "camp" at machines on their cell phones at this particular location. I wish the staff would enforce a time limit because I dislike asking people to move. Terrible experience, completely unprofessional gym, staff and management! Went it weeks prior to cancel membership which I was forced to do because they do not give you an option on the app. So upon going into gym to sign I was canceling my membership the staff at counter could not get the computer to work so they wrote a note and assured me I would be getting an email which I never received. Now upon next cycle I’m charged so I not call the facility and speak with Sean to find out the manager because I have had no help so far, was told there was never a note made and given time manager will be in which is not all

I tried going for a bit,good part of a year, but after not feeling comfortable going because of how the equipment seemed to be in need of repair a lot, not to mention this location not having classes, abd trying to join class at other locations was just to difficult, I canceled my membership. The only thing they ever asked if me was "Why are you canceling?" Not how things could have improved or been better. Staff was overall nice. Hated going because if I wasn't early then i couldn't use the machines I wanted, and alot of the younger gym goers just didn't follow the rules of common courtesy and it never really seemed to be enforced. Lacking in free weight options compared to other gyms I'd been a part of. Only really good plus was location to my house, and staff was generally friendly at least.

The owner of this franchised PF doesn't clean it very well. One of the showers is leaking water from the spout, about a gallon every 2 minutes. This has been going on for a couple of weeks. Before that, another one was leaking as bad and wasn't fixed or turned off for about a month. And that one still isn't up for use. The staff are very good and are friendly.

My wife and I had to end our membership at Planet Fitness. Despite our efforts, Planet Fitness still charged us the annual fee, even though we weren't going to be members for the upcoming year. I talked to management and was told we missed canceling the membership by a few days. A few days, really?! So, Planet Fitness will take your money with no problems when ending your membership. Not to mention the employee and manager weren't at all helpful or professional. Worse gym membership I've ever been a part of. Don't waste your money.

I went to this gym several times a week for nearly 6 months, and everything was acceptable, until their recent “renovation” that took place at this location from 6/26-28, 2024. They have since removed a significant amount of machines completely with no replacements. The machines that they didn’t remove, that used to have multiples so people didn’t have to wait, now only have 1 version of each, leading to much longer wait times than before. This gym used to be organized by body part, but it is a completely disorganized mess now. They moved the 30 minute express workout into a completely different room for no reason, and haven’t updated any of the overhead signage stating which area is for which part of the body. It’s a nightmare. The first day they were open after this “Reno” I went in and every other regular was confused, frustrated, and upset by these changes. People who I’ve seen working out alongside me for 6 months were asking employees where things were, and why they took away so much. I asked the girl at the front desk if they’d be adding more, to which she responded that “this is the complete renovation.” I mentioned that a huge amount of machines I used were gone, and all she had to say to that was “yeah, we got rid of a lot of stuff.” I took another brief look around, turned to her and told her to cancel my membership. She told me that because I paid on the 17th of June that I had until 16th of July to use the club. After she cancelled my membership, my planet fitness app updated and no longer offered me the barcode for the membership I’ve paid for, so I in fact do not have until the 16th of July. I immediately drove 15 to mission valley and signed up for a beautiful newer gym over there. Clearly this planet fitness doesn’t care about retaining or upsetting their customers. Shameful customer service experience, especially for someone who has been regularly working out there for 6mo. I wouldn’t be surprised if this location sees a massive spike in member cancellations, and a huge dip in their business.

PS: this location is sandwiched in between a Dollar Tree and a coin op laundry mat in a dingy strip mall. If you’re a woman, you will be stared at through the windows by vagrants passing by. Be aware.

I just finished a road trip from Portland, OR down to San Diego. During that trip, I stopped at five PF locations (not including the three I frequented in Portland), so I speak with some authority when I say that the locker rooms at this location are the filthiest in the country.

The showers were disgusting (I thought I would get a staff infection just looking at them), there was crusty grime on the sink faucets, all the lockers were dusty and dirty with some containing left behind socks and underwear, plus many had broken locks. Apart from some dirty medicine balls and shoddy mats, the front was clean, and everything appeared operational, including the water fountain which was sparkling-- but that doesn't make up for the reprehensible state of the locker rooms.

And I don't want to hear the classist b/s of "you get what you pay for." Just because this membership is at a lower price point, does not give whoever manages and operates these locations the right to let the facilities go to filth. People with lower spending limits have just as much right to physical health and well being as people with country club memberships. If something isn't done about the Euclid and University locations, I'll cancel my membership, encourage others to do so, and to not join these clubs.

Still the worst wifi and this has been an ongoing problem. Other PF locations in San Diego don’t seem to have this issue. You need wifi here because there is no cell signal.

No WiFi for a month. Closed captions on TV news channels can’t be figured out. No paper towels this morning. What’s hard about this?

I go to the planet fitness in Atlanta Georgia but since I’m visiting San Diego this is one of my to go gym.

I'm sure the gym portion is decent, but the locker room is not great. The showers are in complete disrepair. Took me three showers to find one that worked well enough to use. I won't be coming back to this location.

The gym is alright has its up ans down .. Ive been coming to the this location for years . One thing for is the music doesnt have to always be blasted so loud .. we have headphones for a reason And another is the internet is terrible .. its always been terrible ( its nothing new ) . Its just a gym but customers want to enjoy their time while they are here

One of the best PFs around. Clean! The staff is so great too!
Even the people working out are friendly here! Crystal on the AM shift is wonderful, love her smiling and always cheerful attitude.

Art is fantastic. Always smiling and saying good morning or a see ya. He's attentative to the club, always staying busy.

Premises very clean, well kept, staff is very friendly and professional, the members have always been polite and respectful with each other,when I've been there. It's a very relaxed, pleasant, happy environment. Glad I joined !

I understand this is a low budget establishment, but I feel this locker room should be checked for infectious diseases. I’ve seen truck stop bathrooms cleaner than this.

I talked about the internet and not about the telephone signal. If I wanted to talk on the phone, I would stay at my house. I want to be able to distract myself by listening to music or watching a video while I'm on the device. And there is no good internet at the gym. Get it now ?

They were able to pull off a decent PF from a less than average retail plaza. They have all the same equipment as others but it’s a tight design and not much room. Other than that it’s good. Always recommend a Black Card

this place is very friendly.i don't use the equipment a lot so I'd say see it for yourself. for 10 bucks you don't have to risk a lot .one thing I do wish is that they were open 24 hours .sadly I think those days are gone .

I want to give a huge shout out to Gael ! He provided amazing customer service and totally went above and beyond for me after my tire popped right before entering the parking lot. He took the time to help me change it and always gives a nice friendly greeting when i check in. He is truly a great employee and deserves the recognition.

Honestly, this gym is really well run. From the staff, being courteous to the facilities being super clean to all the guests very polite and courteous. One of the better gym experiences I’ve had.

The parking lot is a disgusting mess. Gym members have to walk in this in order to go into the gym. As a traveling black card member I did not stop.

Next time, if you can put the right time you guys are closing on holidays. Because it says 7am-7pm on Sunday and I get there at 4pm, and you guys are closed at 12pm already. U got people waisting gas because of your mestup schedule.

Gym is alright. Clean, active staff. Broken equipment gets replaced reasonably quickly but my biggest problem with planet fitness is their music. Literally everyone in the gym is wearing headphones. I don’t understand why the music must be so loud. I got multiple alerts on my iPhone saying that music was over 90db. I politely asked if the staff could turn it down just a little and he said he’s not allowed to.

I guess they will be “allowed to” as soon as they get hit by a multimillion dollar lawsuit.

Nothing against the people working there. Everything against planet fitness.
