I’m new to La Jolla, San Diego, and Planet Fitness is by far the best gym I’ve tried in the area. For me, the most important things are always having a clean gym and access to modern, professional equipment. On top of that, Planet Fitness offers great pricing and flexibility, which makes it an easy choice.

The staff are friendly and helpful. Parking is free and plentiful in the lot but the spots are tight.

The gym equipment is decently maintained and the floor is overall clean. There is a large variety of machines and equipment to use.

Some complaints are in the abs stretching and pf360 room it can get hot and stuffy because there isn’t any airflow or a/c in those rooms.

Also the bathrooms are a mess on evenings 7-9pm with water everywhere, empty soap dispensers. My husband dreads the men’s bathroom and says it’s disgusting.

A while ago, a long-haired male staff member at the front desk of this location mistakenly entered the wrong membership end date for me. As a result, every time I visited a different location, I had to explain that my membership had not yet expired, which was very inconvenient.

I called my main gym (this location), and the manager told me that I only needed to show my cancellation form at other locations. But is it really that simple? Today, the front desk at the location I visited refused to recognize my cancellation form. It was only after I spoke with their manager that I was allowed to enter. However, this issue keeps happening because my main gym has not resolved the root cause — which is to update the correct end date in the system.

I don’t understand why, as the largest gym chain in the country, Planet Fitness is making customers bear the consequences of its own mistakes. Why make customers repeatedly explain themselves when the issue could be permanently resolved by simply updating a date in the system?

This problem began with a staff error and was later not corrected by the manager. From beginning to end, I, as the customer, have been the one affected. I would like to know — is this due to individual negligence by the staff and manager, or is this common practice at Planet Fitness?

From my experience, most Planet Fitness locations are quite good, but perhaps due to its size, there are inevitably a few less responsible employees. I sincerely hope Planet Fitness continues to grow and also holds its staff to higher standards in order to provide customers with a better experience. Thank you.

I’ve always liked Planet Fitness, but I do not recommend this particular location, especially because of one of their front desk staff. There’s a long-haired male employee whose initials are “SY.” He is very unfriendly and unprofessional. Every time I check in, he gives me a poker face, yet he greets his colleagues with a big smile.

Recently, I had to cancel my membership because of travel. According to the contract, I should still have access for one month from the cancellation date. However, during my trip, I repeatedly ran into issues because other clubs couldn’t find my information. I called several times, and after multiple conversations, I found out the problem: the front desk guy, SY, had incorrectly entered my end date. He set my request date as the end date, which made me lose an entire month of access.

Now, every time I visit a new club, I have to spend a long time explaining the situation, which is extremely inconvenient. All of this was caused by the unprofessional behavior of the long-haired front desk employee, SY. Even after I called them, they didn’t update my expiration date in the system. I strongly do not recommend this location.

Crystal manager of this facility she blamed me that I did not cancel my membership accurately while I was in the facility asked for signed digitally. Cancel my membership in Covid time 2024. I thought everything was OK until I check with my bank. I was still getting charged not just for $10 as original Membership price, but they upgraded me instead of Canceling my membership From basic $10-$25 until 2025

When I called in To discuss this issue, one manager, she apologized she saw the arrow. She said someone will call me to refund the money.
But no one called

Then again I called Crystal picked up the phone and she start blaming me .

I don’t think this is the way how you make business. I’m sure I’m not the only victim. I’m sure there’s many people during Covid time they receive such a horrible response from planet fitness.

This is my new place to go to. I travel extensively up the central valley and back and my old gym "The Gym" has been my steady go to place to hit the racks and chin-wag. This new gym is awesome. The staff are young, welcoming, and make me, a geriatric, welcomed. They are utterly professional. They come without a baggage. They are judgement free, and they help effortlessly. The place is awesome, and near where I live. The only thing missing is a swat cage -- but I can live without it. And the patrons are focused and serious -- no cell phone surfing between sets here! Phew! What a relief!!!!!!

2 reasons for 2 stars.
First, operating hours. Closing at 10 is frustrating. I work out at PF in many other states and everywhere it's open 24/5 or even 24/7. This PF is one of the most crowded I have ever visited, I can't imagine there isn't demand like on Arizona or Nevada. Maybe California salaries are higher but at least stay open to 11 or midnight.

Second - as many others have mentioned, the bathrooms always seem unclean. Maybe it's because it is such a popular PF but they seem less clean than any PF I've visited aside from New York.

Yes, the equipment is in good shape and clean and the staff are friendly but is doesn't bring the review score up for the two big offsets.

We went to use the gym for our first time here before we had to catch a flight and it wasn’t even open. We went on a Sunday and it opens at 7 AM and not even a worker was inside of the place. Every planet fitness I have went to is great, but this one was disappointing. There were multiple people just waiting outside of the planet fitness for it to open up. It looked like that was a normal thing that it did not open for 7 AM. If that’s the case then this planet fitness needs to do better because not everyone has time to wait 30- and hour for an employee to show up when they were suppose to be there already.

I love this gym! It's so nice and clean. The staff are friendly and the amenities are great! I like the wide variety of cardio machines and unique strength training equipment. Thanks to Planet Fitness, I have a new favorite place to work out.

I am shocked by the situation where a man dressed as a woman enters the women's locker room. Is this normal for your gym? When did this even become acceptable in society? Men come to the gym with their wives and daughters, so why is it okay for a man, even if he is dressed as a woman, to enter the women's locker room? I would not want my wife to be in the same locker room as him. This is madness. Does this mean any man can just put on women's clothes and go in there? It's absurd. I really like your gym, but I think you need to address this situation.

I had to get a full membership because the men's shower section was not working for a week. There are only 3 shower stalls in this entire gym. Is this a joke? You can sign up very easily, but they have done everything they can to make it difficult to cancel your membership through the app. In fact, you cannot even see the membership cancellation.

Trying to be nice because the person who helped me last time was nice...I'm visiting from out of town and this PF location is filthy and the quitpment is old. I thought I'd give them a second chance since the first time I went... my first visit, I had to thoroughly clean both the red light booth and the tan booth myself, cutting into my time at the gym. I asked if they were clean before I went in the second round, I was told "they should be", turns out, they were just as filthy as before, except maybe worse. I had to take pics, and I never do that! I understand businesses get busy...however, this location was not that busy and there was NO excuse for how unbelievably filthy it is! I've honestly never been more disgusted with a gym. Incredibly unsanitary. I'm now driving 11 miles instead of 2.5 miles, because I'd rather spend the extra time and money being in a clean, safe gym that I pay monthly AND yearly dues to. $30 just came out of my account for their annual fee. For how dirty and unsanitary this location is, no one should be accruing extra charges. It's not our job to clean the whole place...not to mention, the womens bathroom/locker room was filthy, and their hours of operation have stayed at COVID hours, closing early regularly. Even my "small town" PF fixed their hours after covid, open 24/hr during the wk and closing early on weekends. Please try and do better. I hate giving bad reviews. 😔

This place is disgustingly filthy. The gym equipment and main workout areas are fairly well maintained, but the men's shower and locker areas have not been cleaned in weeks. Who knows what lurks in the piles of hair and slime that seems to resemble something you'd see in a horror movie. How these folks remain in business is a mystery. I'm done with Planet Fitness. You kinda get what you pay for there....IN RESPONSE TO YOUR REPLY BELOW (if you can call it a response), I DID speak to your Manager yesterday and she tells me she has been requesting resources to clean the facilities for over a month now. My one complaint is that the music is so loud! Maybe I'm especially sensitive to the noise, but it sometimes hurts my ears, and I definitely can't listen to my own music over their background music.

I've asked a couple times if they could turn it down a little and the employees said they're not able to, which seems strange. It doesn't seem to bother other people-- almost everyone seems to have their earbuds in anyway.

I will probably switch to gyms that have music at a more normal volume. It's too bad because overall it's a good gym at a very reasonable price. The staff is nice and friendly and they keep it clean. The weights get busy on weekday nights but there's usually space.

This gym is seldom full but maybe once or twice a week, if you use the app it actually gives you a visual of how full it is.

Mobile app has suggested workouts, or you could just go it alone and use the machines at your leisure.

The gym staff are very nice and the equipment is newer and works well. The open layout is great and I like the gym overall. The problem is the restroom. Often times, the women’s restroom is messy with a lot of water splashed all over the vanity and floor. The soap dispensers are usually low or totally empty and oddly enough, this location does not offer disposable toilet seat covers or paper towels in the restroom which I think is unhygienic. Aside from that, the gym is fine.

By far the cleanest gym with the friendliest workers I’ve ever met, and I’ve been to all the nationwide gyms and even small local gyms. This should be the standard!

Plenty of parking, not too busy if you pick the right time and day to go, well kept and maintained equipment. Also, competitive pricing, tons of perks for the price.

I even watched the workers dust every nook and cranny of the machines as well going as far as lifting up the machines and vacuuming underneath. Now that is clean!

This is one of the few Planet Fitness franchises that requires Black Card members to sign in with their name on paper, and restricts their visits to 10 visits per month if their home club is different. The staff here is so friendly and seem like genuinely decent humans. I love them! Everything is clean. I see them wiping down machines and mopping regularly. Clientele seems nice, friendly and helpful as well. My only complaint with this particular location is that the heaviest kettlebell is 35 lb,
I believe. I really enjoy the Black Card perks. The massage chairs, massage bed, and total body enhancements are used almost every visit. I did visit another location and their massage rooms are dimmed. Kind of a nice touch.

The Sorrento Mesa location, always have been a perfect for me and my family. Clean, location, friendly staff and Manager Kalani always leading his staff with respectful and friendly experience. This location needs more equipment. Hip thrust machine, glute bridge machine, and hack squat machine. There is space for this machines. I’m hoping upper management is reading this. I’ve been going to this gym for 2+ years now and the staff has always been super nice for the entire time I have been there. In addition to keeping the gym very clean.

Just today I was in the midst of a heavy workout and was beginning to sweat. I wiped off one of my AirPods with a paper towel and accidentally threw it in the trash because I got distracted. Luckily, I realized what happened less than a minute after actually doing it I but was losing my mind because I thought I lost it forever. I went to the staff desk and asked if they could help me. Martin then put on a glove and helped me get it out of the trash. I was so relieved and thanked him a thousand. This is the kind hospitality they show at this gym. This gym has my gratitude and I am so thankful for Martin and everyone who works at this Planet Fitness for making this my favorite gym to lift at. Thank you, guys!

So I've been a member of planet fitness I believe for over a year started in Maryland and then transferred my account when I moved to San Diego. I joined the gym because I was told that there's no commitments no contracts. I tried to cancel my account today and I was hit with a $58 buyout fee which was not explained to me based on the supposed different options I would have been presented at the time of signing up for the membership. This is extremely frustrating because the communication was just not great and I'm stuck with this fee because of a quote unquote contract which shouldn't exist in the first place because this is a month-to-month gym. The manager on duty was extremely inflexible and I really would like to consideration for removal of this fee I have tried to go back to the facility that's on the other side of the country to see if they'd be willing to waive the fee but I think that to run a successful national business that there needs to be full transparency about what fees may or may not be charged should you choose to leave the gym for whatever reasons very unhappy with this experience.

Stopped into this location two days ago in the evening. Clean tidy lobby, locker rooms were as clean as I would expect by the end of the day and there was an employee working on the closing cleaning of the locker room.

Only two stars because 3/4 showers were in unusable or poor condition. The handicap shower had an out of order sign on it. I tried the shower next to it which had a non-functioning drain so I moved mid-shower to the next one over which had zero water pressure and temperatures fluctuated from freezing cold to boiling hot without warning. I did not try the last shower because I did not want to move a second time

I would not stop here again.

As with most planet fitness, many homeless folks attend. I would estimate half of all members at any given location are homeless. Most people who live in the area either have their own equipment, have a gym at their work, or have a gym at their complex.

Best layout in the 30-minute section that I've seen around - seems well planned out by someone who was actually knowledgeable.

Best mat area I have seen.

Decent massage chair.

Fantastic shower pressure and no hot water issues unlike most other locations.

Showers with doors, lockers with attached locks where you create your own pin number to open it.

Staff gave me a downright unfriendly look on my way out. If you have something to say, say it.

CONs:

1) hours open need to be extended earlier and later.

2) cleaner than some locations but not as clean as it should be - sometimes trash cans very obviously weren't even dumped for days, floor and shower not cleaned, etc.

3) extra step for visitors with other home gym locations requiring these members to write their personally identifiable information on list that they leave out exposing your identity / private, protected information.

4) some of the staff seem to be judgemental/have attitudes.

Know that a) some clients grew up in the area, left, and came back but you assume they're not from here and show attitude.

Also know that b) some people don't want to wear certain skimpy or trendy clothing while they work out - it doesn't mean they can't afford to buy that clothing. Some folks went through basic training wearing uniforms and gear so we prefer loose pants and a T-shirt while working out.

3) lastly, know that some people have medical conditions and can't do CrossFit type workouts.

Here's the deal - ya'll make about $15 and can't afford to live in this section of town. The irony being that I observed a staff member sleeping in their car in the parking lot. So staff should watch their judgment of others.

For the most part this gym is clean and the staff is great. The disgusting thin is the men's toilets have not been cleaned in the last three days. I have been coming the last three days and the same stains are in the toilet from the first day. Not a good look.

Great gym. Has all equipment necessary for a great workout. The employees are friendly and they keep the gym very clean. I would totally recommend PF to anyone.

My husband and I searched for a week to decide which gym to join. PF won out because they are close to our home, convenient location with easy in easy out, and the equipment we wanted. So Black Card Membership its is....sign us up! Hydromassage, full body enhancement, massage chairs, tanning all included too!

BUT what we didn't know was we were getting Kalani along with the already pretty sweet deal. Cannot say enough nice things about Kalani. Starting with an always friendly and upbeat "welcome back" when you arrive, he is the cheer you need daily at the gym! Always manning the front desk and working his butt off at the same time! Who is that Ghostbuster pack wearing guy cleaning the floors? Kalani. Who is that stocking the paper and fixing the treadmill? Kalani. Who is that organizing the food drive and decorating? Kalani.

I know that a new club is opening in Poway and I told Kalani....they cannot have you! We need you here. PF is lucky to have him 

This place is constantly clearing Bravo Zulu to the staff. The equipment is in wonderful working order and the black card amenities and incredible.

Very happy with my experience w this gym and its managers. Kalani, manager, is always there w a smile and something sincere to talk about. He's always cleaning something. Very clean compared to other gyms i've been to. Always easy parking. Very reasonalbly priced. They have lots of extras like massage chairs, hydro beds, tanning and more. I would def reccomend.
