It's an older gym with an older layout so they don't have as many of certain stations as I'm used to. Not a big mat area. And the massage chairs are not the best. So minus one star. But when I went (Saturday afternoon) it was clean and quiet and altogether pleasant. Maybe not as nice as the gyms that cost literally 6 or 12 times as much but I got the job done! Would come back again if nearby (or try one of the many other PFs within a short drive!).

This location has gotten worse over the past couple of years. From filthy restrooms to a complete lack of a dedicated area for stretching and exercising on floor mats, the quality of this location has declined. A few days ago after finishing my workout around 6pm I was walking to my car and noticed that all lights in the parking lot were off. None of them had been turned on and the parking lot was pitch black in some places and creepy as heck. I locked my car doors and got out of there. I like doing my workouts before dinner, so probably going to change my home PF to a safer and cleaner location.

To the Management: I'm sorry but I work a demanding job and don't have the time to discuss all these issues with your site manager. It's the responsibility of PF to ensure that a location is clean and safe for members to visit. Issues like bathroom cleanliness, lack of a floor mat area to stretch and exercise, and no lights in the parking lot after dark can all be easily observed if someone goes to check.

Extremely disappointed. Been a member since 2018. I called and spoke to Hamza and asked if PF allows men and people identifying as women in the women's bathrooms/ changing rooms . He said yes they do. Do better Planet Fitness. You lost a loyal customer and are about to lose a lot more. I quit my membership at 24 hour fitness to join planet fitness on Saratoga avenue. I had a relatively good experience at planet fitness when I lived in Vegas, and 24 hour fitness is notoriouslu overcrowded and filthy, but my first visit to this club was a complete disappointment. The staff were rude, the restrooms were absolutely atrocious and filthy, and the overall vibe was just bad. I really made a bad decision here. Whatever you do, DONT JOIN THIS CLUB !

They have this guy who has set up camp in the locker room on more than one occasion and has some kind of disease that who knows if it’s communicable. The guy sits in there for hours on end. PLANET FITNESS is a place I DO NOT recommend. I had the 25 a month subscription, but it failed to meet my expectations. The gym was often crowded, the locker room was small. For example there’s only one stall in the men’s restroom. Additionally, the staff were very rude and condescending. They would make comments about members simply going in to shower and not workout and they would attack me about my payment being due despite me telling them about my situation and that I would pay it off in a few days with the late fee. Remember they’ll charge you a late fee for anything and they won’t take it off no matter what you do or say. The marketing behind planet fitness is that it’s a “judgement free zone”, but the comments made by the front staff made it an uncomfortable experience. I now have a membership at the 24h fitness and it is a much better experience. Yea sometimes it’s overcrowded, but the locker rooms are bigger, I don’t have to wait on someone using the only stall available, the front desk workers are nice and non judgmental, and I can easily talk to the manager about payment methods and late fees. I’d rather attend a gym that isn’t judgmental and works with their clients than a gym that tries to squeeze every last cent out of you. Lastly, the machines and weights are very limiting. The dumbbells only go up to 75lbs, there’s no bench press, and the machines are subpar.

I have been a member at this location on Saratoga Ave in San Jose for several years.
What I witnessed yesterday after my work out was disgusting and a major health issue for all male members using the restroom area.
The men's restroom has not been properly cleaned or sanitized for probably well over a month, or longer.
The mirror in the men's room was disgustingly filthy where I could barely see my reflection in the mirror. The sinks and urinals were heavily soiled, gross!
They have a new NO BAG policy and NO OPEN TOE shoes policy, and I noticed several members with bags blocking the isles between machines, and there are still members with open toe clogs on while working out. Hey PF, way to go on enforcing some very important health and safety policies!.
Four TV’s for viewing are still broken and have been this way for several weeks. I really enjoy watching TV while I do my 45 minute elliptical, makes the time go by.
Still as of right now, I am not recommending this location as a PF gym until management gets this place cleaned up.

I’ve been a customer for about 1 year and three months. It’s cheap… you get what you pay for. It’s pretty dirty and machines are down all the time.

The peck deck machine was down for a week. This machine gets used every day all day long. It’s popular! It’s a big part of my workout.

So this morning I inquired at the club, when it will be fixed. The kids didn’t know. They said to ask the manager. He was at a table behind the desk. Al Tapa is his name. This guy would not even look up at me. Just staring into his laptop and being rude. Great management skills btw! He was very rude as if I offended him personally. I said “I guess that’s why it’s $10 a month”. He didn’t like my comment and said I could leave. I said no I’m going to go workout. Then he said I was banned.

I went to workout and then after I tried to apologize, if I offended him or anything. He would not accept my apology. We exchanged a few unkind words and then he threatened me to a fight in the parking lot. This was in front of two teenagers at the desk.

He canceled my membership without my consent. I just paid the annual fee and it’s only March. This manager Al Tapa is abusing his power as a manager. He honestly is not a very good manager and the store reflects this.

This is a nice place to go training. Well maintained and nice staff. I saw good improvements in their use of space which make it easier to get the equipments you need when you need it. They need one more multi use cable machine. This is very high demand. I like the red light machine. A sauna, infrared or heated would be a nice addition to the black membership though.

I travel lots, and this planet fitness was nice when I walked in, but then I went in the bathroom, and it was GROSS. The shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The hard water stains are not going anywhere. The huge mound of hair was disgusting 😑. And it smelled like someone had just dyed their hair. I have had a membership at this gym for a couple months. So far the staff seems fairly friendly, as are those who work out there. It seems that's the members are a rather young demographic. The locker rooms are not kept up as well as I would like, there are a couple of broken shower heads that have been broken for months, oftentimes the floor is wet and slippery, but rather than getting a mop, the staff just puts out a yellow slippery when wet sign then congregates at the front desk. The soap dispensers and automatic faucets are broken and difficult to work. They do not have hair dryers in the locker room. The mirrors are often dirty and the sink countertops have water resting on them all the time. On the actual gym floor, despite being crowded oftentimes at peak hours, the equipment seems well taken care of and fairly clean almost all the time. There is a good variety of machines and free weights. The music they play is decent, and it is generally all in all a pretty relaxed atmosphere as far as gyms go. The obvious draw is the very affordable rates which make it an extremely ideal gym for people whom are just trying to get back in the swing of working out or for those who are starting for the first time. I think that all in all you get what you pay for, and in this case despite the frustrating I listed in the locker room the value is very much all that it should be for what they charge.

I visited this center during the late night hours and it was terribly filthy. All of the trash cans were overfilled and the towel dispensers were empty. It’s a health hazard to not have this equipment clean and refilled. I notified the front desk about my concerns and I was told it would be addressed. Dirty, extremely crowded, broken machines, dirty smelly bathroom, cars get broken into in parking lot, staff just sits behind desk on their phones or has long conversations with friends when they should be cleaning, people slamming weights and blasting their music on their phones without earbuds. Staff was nice and welcoming but the facility has this nasty dampness to it due to heat. No AC and an enormous ceiling fan that only kinda helps. Started sweating in 1st minute on treadmill. Came to this PF since it’s close to work. Equipment is great, everything is clean. Members are awesome and friendly as well as the front desk staff. The reason it has a 1 star for me is the Manager. I used to work for commercial gyms as a Manager. I ALWAYS said “have a nice day” or greeted the members as they walked by. Even if they didn’t say it back or noticed me. She did not. As I walked out I said “have a great day!” With a smile on my face, the front desk worker made sure to say goodbye, she didn’t. Instead she looked away and with a scowl. Please, if you are the manager, be sure to be kind and courteous to ALL members. Especially for a gym chain that is supposed to stand for: fitness for all, all inclusive, safe fitness space and friendliness.

I didn’t realize they paid people at this location to sit on their phones while working the front desk! Whoever woke up on the wrong side of the bed and worked on Sunday evening disrespected my friend and I over his own lack of attention to detail and unwillingness to explain simple guest check in procedure. You’re going to be on your phone while my friend checks in, thinking it’s fine since no one (meaning you) stopped us, let a whole minute pass by when we are already setting up for our workout - and then BELLOW across the gym - “excuse me you need to check in”, and when we go and ask you how it works - just stare at us with a condescending expression the entire time without saying a single useful piece of information other than “yOu sTilL nEeD to ChEcK iN”. This planet fitness saratoga san jose doesn't have a customer service. I was using my crock shoes because my ankle is hurt when I use my tennis shoes and i was walking a little bit limp and slow. It was ok when I came in. I was using the sitting bike then I use the hydromassage. This staff white guy was very nosy while I was on the hydromassage and looking at my phone and anything with me. After I'm done, this white guy whisper to spanish guy on the front desk to tell me something. Then this spanish guy, told me, next time don't use that crock shoes on the gym. I said Ok with an F. 10/21/23: Saturday night — GYM is CLOSED due to water 💦 💧 🚿 SHUTOFF!

During September many long-standing problems have been corrected. New cardio equipment was installed on 9/12/23 and this is a big improvement. Equipment layout was also modified, seems much better now even during peak hours.

Usually the staff is responsive to problems — if they can take care of it — they do it promptly and properly. If they can’t take care of it — they write up a work order — which goes into the “system”. Often problems with facilities or equipment goes uncared for after many reports over weeks and months. Recently some old problems are now fixed. A few still remain.

Specifically, the men’s locker room sink area is basically a swamp. It is always very very damp, often standing water remains pooling on the floor for many hours every day — day, in and day out — week after week. This area needs to be redesigned — it is a health hazard, and a safety hazard. POTENTIAL SOLUTION: Replace the automatic faucets! The water comes out very high above the level of the counter around the sink. Some of the taps have a bubbling stream, ok, but others spray water — profusely — all around the entire sink area. This leads to stray water, splashing and leaking all over the floor, repeatedly and constantly!! — This is a very very bad design in the men’s locker room area. Planet Fitness – you can do much better!

Update 4/6/23: again, no one here working to talk about my concerns.

3/31/23 I’ve been coming here for abt 10 months. I do like the location, people, and machines. However, the cleanliness has declined significantly. I ask for refills at cleaning stations often. Today I had to find paper towels and do it myself. The floors are constantly disgusting. Lots of lint balls and paper towel particles. Machines are dusty in the grooves, too. Today, no one has been manning the desk, as well. I’m writing this review in hopes there will be changes, so I do not leave and go somewhere else.

The most disgusting and disturbing gym experience I've ever had. I travel a lot so I've been to a lot of gyms in California and throughout the US and I've never experienced anything like this place. They never-ever clean the bathrooms or showers. I'm not going to get all the way into because if yhe attached photos of hair and feces don't deter you than nothing will. I will say I found feces in all of the showers and came back 3 days later to find the same poo still right where it was on my previous visit. It's only $2 more per month to get a 24hour Fitness membership with the same amenities and you get access to A LOT more locations throughout the bay area!

*Edit (response to owner response): Have you seen the attached photos? Those are absolutely deplorable and unacceptable conditions that do present a real health hazard from things like hepatitis, parasites and fungus just to name a few. We're not talking about sweaty workout equipment, we're talking about spreading disease. I should not have to tell anybody about this. If I can walk in and see it once a day when I go in then I'm 100% sure one of the 24 hour staff members and/or the location manager can see it too. I appreciate the response but OMG! COME ON!

I used to go to another gym and because I couldn’t lift as much as other people I would get weird looks but ever since I started coming here I have never gotten weird looks. This is truly a no judgement zone.

People breaking into cars in the parking lot. People trying to steal my empty airpods case while my airpods are in my Ears lol. this gym is so overcrowded, you can barely breathe in it. Oh and girls filming tiktoks in the changing room.

OK Facility, around medium crowds every time but equipment is clean and not trigger happy on the lunk alarm. More of an issue with the actual building rather than the business, however.

Five stars. Great staff but the lockers need work. They could definitely remodel the locker room better to make it more spacious and clean. They need more yoga mats too

One of the worst gyms I’ve ever been too. Machines are broken, overall repair is needed, and everything was dirty and grimy on main gym floor. I was disgusted by the men’s locker room, looked like a toilet overflowed and the staff half-heartedly tried to clean it up with paper towels.. that they then just left on the ground. I side stepped pieces of human excrement as I refilled my water in the sink because the water fountain in the main gym floor was extremely warm and tasted horrible. There was a buildup of mildew and filth in the showers and in the sinks that made my skin crawl. It looked like it hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned since the gyms inception. I attempted to tell the staff about the abhorrent/unhealthy state of the bathroom, but they were non-existent during my brief visit. This gym should be avoided at all costs- it probably has many health code violations and needs to be shut down in its current state.

Edit after seeing other people’s posts- I don’t know what gym they’re going to but there’s no way it has regressed to it’s current condition in (4) months since the last review. Might be fake reviews to boost their rating back up

Only has 4 stairmasters and 2 of which have been broken for weeks. Disappointing that they cant even fix machines in a timely manner.
