I am giving this place a two star. It's a shame they have people at the front desk who clearly have no customer service skills. A female employee was very rude the moment I walked in. I did not even get greeted. I wanted to sign up, so I asked to get a membership. She said, "do you know what you want." Which I found odd considering she should of just got a sales person to sign me up. She instead told me I needed to just go online. I drove all the way there and received no service. Unfortunately because of this employee that clearly did not want to service me, plant fitness has lost a membership sale and gained a bad review.

2.5 stars. This particular spot is missing key pieces of equipment and not enough of other equipment. I guess m if youre.new to fitness it would be ok but if youre intermediate or above, this place would not be a good fit.
This particular spot isn't very clean either. There isn't anyone maintaining the bathrooms. They needed some help.
Its also very muggy. Not ventilated well. I know you're supposed to sweat but it wasn't comfortable and.i.was surprised since it's in walnut creek. The people and staff were friendly.

Staff is friendly enough, but the entire 2 months I was a “member” here I felt like they were shaking me down with supposed late fees. I can’t trust a company that charges my account without notification, especially $40+. Hard to cancel on your own, and I was never sent my Member ID after signing up online so I couldn’t. Not a great experience

I’m aware planet fitness has a bad reputation among lifters, but this place has me wondering why. The staff are nice, the facilities are clean and well maintained, and it’s only $15 a month ($25 to use the spa area, which is quite nice).

Only two issues:

1. They have smith machines instead of standard racks. This does kinda suck

2. I think the free weights and smith machines area is very popular and often crowded compared to the rest of the gym. They could expand it by getting rid of some of the lesser used stuff.

I’d give 4.5 for the reasons above, but I can’t so I’ll just round to 5. Great all around, affordable gym!

Nice gym, great value, tho it's super busy in the after-work timeframe. Another small gripe is the ratio of machines/weights to cardio equipment is like 10/90, at least in terms of space in the main area. Very little room in the free weights area, hard to move around. Plenty of benches and squat racks, but could use some more room. Funny thing is I've never ever seen the cardio equipment even close to capacity, most of the time there's maybe 25-30% of the cardio machines in use.

UPDATED REVIEW: They've started (hopefully more to come) moving some equipment around, and expanded the footprint of the weight training area, so it's much more roomy now. You aren't jammed up against the dumbbell racks or right against the Smith racks, but as of yet I haven't noticed any new/additional machines. I still think there is far too much cardio equipment for the members who use the gym, as most are using the strength training equipment. A few more Smith racks would be helpful, as the four existing ones are ALWAYS being used (usually by someone who does one set and then stares at their phone for 10 minutes in between). The crowd has also thinned out somewhat, though this is probably temporary during fall/winter/school sessions.

The staff and members at this location are rude and petty and complain about everything.

This is the best Planet Fitness location I have been to. I travel for work and I've been to many different ones and in different states. I drive an extra 8 miles to go to this location. It is very clean and the staff is amazing.

Some of the other locations have gotten rid of their 30 minute express workout. That workout is the main reason I joined Planet Fitness. I think it would be a mistake for other locations to continue to get rid of that workout routine. This location has it and I drive extra for the work out the people and the location.

This gym is absolutely horrible there’s not one soul who dedicates their time to a safe stable environment in this gym. My daughter and her friend came to this gym for summer membership. Unfortunately she started to feel unwell working hard like Mohammad Ali and vomited it happens in sports and fitness what else is knew. What I’m actually disgusted in is the fact that the staff knew of this incident and did not ask once if everything was alright or if medical attention is needed. The janitors took 15 minutes to approach. I’m not even going to speak on the evil souls who probably even had children watch and not once asked if she was okay. But the staff you should all be ashamed of yourselves and remember humanity the next time someone needs assistance. You are all being paid to be indecent citizens great job at failing society.

I like the gym, has everything you need, is clean, nice staff, accessible but the thing that gets me is that it isn't a consistent schedule on when they are open and they aren't 24 hours. I specifically go to planet fitness because it fits my hours and is cheaper than most. My boyfriend and I work late hours and it's a HUGE inconvenience when we go to the gym at 9:30 pm and they tell us we have to leave by ten on Fridays and they close at 7 pm on the weekends. It's a huge let down also because they advertise 24 hours operation but don't at only this location? In a good neighborhood? PLEASE CHANGE THIS PLANET FITNESS OF WC!!

This is one of the cleanest gyms that I have been to in the Bay. It has all of the equipment that you need for either cardio or strength training, and the lack of free barbells prevents others from slamming weights on the ground. The staff is awesome, and they deserve all of the review stars in the world.

That said, the gym has a small footprint, so it can get a little crowded during peak times, especially if you want to use dumbbells, smith, or cable machines. They have tons of cardio machines, but honestly, why the heck are you doing cardio indoors when you live in a Mediterranean climate? I'll never understand this, but hey, I'm sure that people have their reasons.

And this leads to the gym's biggest downfall: the influx of people. This is no fault of the gym, which I believe is excellent for what it is, but using weights after 3PM is basically out of the question due to throngs of high schoolers (why don't the local high schools have decent gyms?) and people making good on their resolutions. And ever since January, the resolutioner crowd has gotten progressively worse to the point where the free weight area is shoulder to shoulder with people for the majority of the day, even off-peak.

Oh and the app's crowd meter doesn't work. Just use google maps.

The typical crowd is also relatively respectful when it comes to gym etiquette. Occasionally you'll encounter someone using a bench as a water bottle, phone, or bag holder, or they might look at you with a befuddled look when you ask if you can work in on a machine that they claimed as theirs, but overall it's a good crowd.

Now to those of you who are doing a new years' resolution, I have some advice for you:

1. Don't use the calendar as a means of getting fit. You'll probably quit in 2 months, all the while screwing up everyone else's workouts. Why not join in March? You'll also avoid the other resolutioners crowding up the gym.

2. If you ignore this advice and join anyway, don't quit after 2 months. You basically overcrowded the gym and inconvenienced the dedicated gym-goers just so you could try and fail. You have now entered the judgement zone.

After going to a different PF in a neighboring city, I came across this PF. I’m so glad I decided to come give this gym a shot. This place, from the equipment and its employees, all are outstanding! The gym, the machines, the bathrooms are all kept clean! The employees are so friendly and welcoming to everyone!! The minute I step inside here, I am greeted and told “We got you! Have a great workout!” I constantly see the employees cleaning and walking around seeing how they can support us in the gym. It’s a great place to workout and should be an example of how ALL PF should be!

Tbh, I miss when they had a scale in the locker rooms. I understand the business model and the number absolutely does not matter however for ppl looking to track and are training, it's a downside. Great place for beginners and casual working out. If you're training or looking for more, maybe not the best spot. Packed frequently, small locations (some are pretty spacious) are relatively clean, and friendly staff. It's nice affordable and convenient for all walks of life. Concord location is my home location, parking sucks.

The Walnut Creek Planet Fitness is new and clean. Plenty of machines and (so far) not too crowded. Most customers wipe down their machines after they use them (unlike 24 Hour) and an attendant is also wiping down machines. 🎉

That said, I did manage to get a fierce cold from there (a common risk at any gym) so I've reverted to masking and keeping my hands clean and gloved. Call me wimpy. I can take it. I prefer that any day to getting sick. 😋

There is a huge bank of large TVs (about 12?) that are viewable from the treadmills and ellipticals, clearly marked with their stations. They include: ABC, NBC, Fox "News", HGTV, CNN, but no MSNBC (alas). Because they are assigned I don't think they change them on request, unlike 24 Hour.

The staff is friendly. There are free mini-Tootsie Rolls at the front desk too. 🍬

The locker room is clean. The lockers are very shallow so don't bring a big workout bag. I have to really stuff my regular 20" workout bag into the locker to get it to fit. 😮‍💨 There are only two benches for changing. 🙁

Parking is easy during the week but you may have to park upstairs on the weekends. There is a three hour limit on parking which is more than I need to wear myself out. 🥵

Honest review of this PF. From my understanding this is a corporate gym versus franchise. They obviously have more options on upgraded equipment versions.

That being stated, I can only give 4 stars as although they have better financial backing, I am disappointed that they opted for the purple vinyl type mats versus the gray rubber mats. It is very challenging to not slide around on the mats or have the mat itself slide (especially during any plyo or very sweaty type exercises).

The 45° Leg Press is also not the better option, as there is hardly any grip on the foot pedal and one can slide up during the press.

The upright bikes seem to indicate low battery frequently, which hopefully gets resolved.

Not just wanting to complain about the equipment, there are great upgrades, such as the abduction and adduction machines, which allows you to increase the angle by tilting the seat back.

Most of the machines have a timer and counter on them, which really adds value to one’s set and reps. They have more machines than the franchises.

The cable pulley machines are also pretty impressive, with the slotted weight options and different design altogether.

They keep the place clean and are constantly walking around and cleaning. Even the manager partakes in this, which I find amazing and he gets much respect for doing so.

Overall it is a great gym, great price, great space, great manager (free parking - when not competing with downtown shoppers)

Amazing place to workout and enjoy your time off from work!
It has been two weeks that l'm a member @ Planet Fitness in Walnut Creek and I really enjoy my time there. Team is extremely friendly and always happy to help and support you with anything you need~you can schedule your own training program with a personal trainer who is willing to help you out with the best exercises for you. The equipment is clean and sanitized all the time. No complaints at all!

I used to be member at 24 hour fitness and bay club and I’m not saying they were bad for the price you can’t beat this one. You don’t have to break the bank to be fit.
This gym is new, it’s clean and staff is very pleasant. Oh and the perks that come with black card are amazing.
Also since January is approaching and every one and their mother will be at the gym they have a tool on their app called ‘crowd meter’ to see how busy it is at any given time. It’s a nice tool to have when you trying to avoid crowds and wait time. Overall this gym does it for me and I’m looking forward to going there every day

It's a judgement free zone, except the only judgement was race based. The manager (Ed) didn't approve of us working out with our friend. He claimed that we were "training" with our friend and that is not allowed. He told us not to work out together in the future. I honestly suspect because the area is predominantly white and we are not. Our friend was white and we were not. Thus, he thought we couldn't be just friends. Many people work out together and that is perfectly normal. He said "he saw it with his own eyes." I'm not really sure what exactly that means. I believe he saw many others working out together but singled us out because of our race. That's the only difference between us working out together and others working out together.
