It’s been about a year since I started training with Cody, and I can’t even begin to describe how much he’s changed my life and my perspective on fitness and health. The workout plans that he creates are specific to your goals, your injuries/pain, and what you like to do for your workouts. Since training with Cody, I’ve eliminated my sciatica (something I’ve been struggling with for years!), I’m able to life heavy without any lower back pain, I’m so much more confident in my body, and because I feel so good, I have been more athletic which was a goal of mine.
I told Cody from the beginning that I want to make sure that I have a healthy relationship with fitness and food because it’s very easy for me to mentally put myself down if I don’t accomplish something or hit a weight goal. He really takes this seriously, and it shows in the way he carefully asks how my nutrition has been, how I’m feeling physically, and whether I’m liking my progress or not and always provides great feedback and suggestions on how to improve.
Cody is also incredibly knowledgable about fitness, health, the body, and nutrition. He makes understanding the science behind what we do easy. If he ever doesn’t know the answer to a question I have, he makes sure to do his research on the subject so that he can provide answers. His constant education really shows in the way he trains and teaches you about fitness.
I highly recommend training with Cody whether it’s in person or online!

Cody is an excellent coach. I learned something new almost every day working with Cody, he is very knowledgeable, approachable/friendly and made training fun!! Cody’s expertise in health and fitness combined with his digestible way of coaching makes him one of the greater personal trainers in the Bay Area. I think anyone can find his coaching very valuable, whether you’re a beginner or have a couple of years of experience under your belt. I was under his coaching for 3 years and I have nothing but great things to say. If you want a diligent, and genuinely caring person, Mr. Barnes is the man. Would definitely recommend!

Cody listens. I always feel heard and respected. He is non-judgmental and interested in my individual progress. He is responsive when I have questions or feedback between sessions.
There is no one-size-fits-all program. Cody designs my workouts around my goals, likes, dislikes, abilities, limitations, and available equipment.
Whenever something isn’t working, for whatever reason, Cody finds a way to adjust. There is no giving up or pushing through pain. I always feel safe, and ready to keep working to get stronger.

I've been working with Cody for the last year and a half, and in that time have gone from being afraid to set foot in a gym to feeling pretty much at home there. Cody helped me establish goals, and provided the programming, in person training, and accountability that I needed to accomplish them. I appreciate how Cody explains not just the what, but the why and how of what we do, so that when I am working out in an unfamiliar environment I have the knowledge to make any necessary adjustments. When I’m having trouble performing a movement, Cody has the patience and expertise to narrow down what the issue is, and add or modify exercises to overcome it. I highly recommend Pure Intent Fitness whether you are wanting to build a new fitness habit from scratch or are working towards a particular goal.

Cody has been my trainer for almost 3 years now and he’s been so awesome! Not only do I see results physically, but he’s also very attentive and intentional about improving my mental and emotional health as well. Cody is very knowledgeable about the functions of the body as well as the conditions that can cause obstacles to a person’s further muscle development. He uses that insight per each person’s condition respectively, and personalizes each exercise in my training to target to my personal goals with confidence:) Overall an amazing trainer, and a genuinely nice guy to work with!
