I floated out of my session with Ryen feeling a greater awareness of how my body is moving and where I needed to focus some energy to unlock some stuck, tight areas. The movement sequence they guided me through was well-rounded, and everything felt safe and was well-explained and/or demonstrated beforehand. Ryen had really fun and encouraging energy throughout the session, and was super proactive about modifying the exercises/equipment to avoid flaring up my knee issue. As a queer chiropractor in Oakland, I have no hesitation referring my clients to Ryen. There was no weird diet or skinny talk, and it felt so nice to move my body in such an affirming space.

Queer Pilates is truly one of a kind. The space feels safe, welcoming, and deeply affirming — a place where all bodies, identities, and experiences are respected and celebrated. Ryen brings such grounded presence and care to every session. They are patient, curious, and incredibly informed — and I’ve known them for years, so I can say that’s just who they are at their core. Each session is thoughtfully tailored to how you're feeling that day, with no pressure to perform or push beyond your limits. Ryen fosters a space that is body-positive and rooted in deep listening. I always leave feeling more connected to myself. If you're looking for movement that meets you exactly where you are, look no further than Queer Pilates!

Recently started with Ryen, and their focus on helping me with flexibility and strengthening my weaker side has been great. Having done pilate before, Ryen is a great and patient teacher and I highly recommend.

Working with Ryen over the past several months has been life-changing. As someone with scoliosis who experiences chronic pain and joint instability, I never imagined I could 1) build this much strength and 2) reduce my pain so significantly. After having hip surgery a couple of years ago, I went through PT and tried various exercise classes to regain strength, but I often left feeling worse. For years I struggled with hip instability, back pain, and muscle weakness. Ryen has been instrumental in helping me address and alleviate the pain associated with each of these challenges.
From the start, Ryen took the time to research and understand my unique starting point and goals. They developed customized sequences to target my specific weaknesses while maintaining a flexible, dynamic approach. If something wasn’t working, we adjusted on the spot, which made every session both effective and empowering.
Ryen is an extraordinary Pilates teacher who truly embodies the concept of “movement as medicine.” Their kind, client-centered, and supportive approach has made a world of difference in my life. I’ve learned so much from them, and I genuinely can’t recommend Ryen and Queer Pilates enough :’)

Ryen is an incredible Pilates instructor who truly stands out for their patience, kindness, and trauma-informed approach to teaching. As someone who’s always struggled with spatial awareness and often feels lost in traditional yoga or fitness classes, I was amazed at how clearly Ryen explained everything. They used words and cues that made sense to me, making the class feel approachable and empowering.
What I loved most is how personalized the session was. Instead of following a rigid sequence of standard poses, Ryen tailored the class to exactly what my body needed that day. Their sense of humor and warm demeanor made the experience not only helpful but genuinely fun.
I’ve always dreaded physical activities because of negative experiences in gym class, where I felt embarrassed and shamed for not keeping up. Ryen’s supportive and understanding approach was the complete opposite—it was healing. I finished the class feeling amazing and excited for my next session!

Great workout for a fair price. Ryen is a great teacher, very easygoing and friendly while still pushing you hard. Highly recommend, especially to queer folkx who prefer something different than a typical gym workout.
