I’ve been working with Justin for rehabilitation of my right adductor, where I’ve had pain and limited external rotation for several years now. I've tried chiropractors and PTs before but nothing helped longterm. After just five Redcord Pilates sessions with him, I’ve experienced a remarkable improvement — the pain has significantly reduced, and my mobility is now on par with my left leg.

Justin is extremely knowledgeable about the Redcord system and skilled at identifying and addressing the root cause of movement issues. His sessions are thoughtfully structured, and he takes the time to explain each exercise and its purpose. He also gave me targeted exercises to do at home and in the gym, which, combined with our sessions, have made a huge difference in my recovery.

I am an ICU nurse at a very busy Trauma Center. I came to Justin because my body was constantly in low level pain due to physical strenuousness of my work. At 57 years old my body was telling me I needed to take better care of it. After 8 weeks of working with Justin my pain has largely been eliminated and I have the strength to meet the physical challenges of the ICU.

Justin Grinius is an extraordinary healthcare provider. He startted with a careful functional assessment (in the health professions assessment is the first step before you do anything else). He explained how the RedCord system works and along with traditional pilates-type exercises how it could me. He carefully guided me through the exercises, keeping in constant communication with me about my body.

I would typify his approach as one of caring based in a deep knowledge of the structure and function of musculoskeletal system.

Justin is hands down my favorite instructor. He is thoughtful, attentive and intuitive. He works with what is going on with your body, rather than what should be happening with your body. He is also incredibly knowledgeable and creative - if working this muscle in this way is not the best for you, he will find another way that is better and safer. Justin is a wizard! He’s the best and is so knowledgeable about the body. He ran a few diagnostic tests on what parts of my body I need to work on and my mind was blown by how much my abs and inner leg strength impacted my range of motion in my arms and neck. (Yes he can figure that out!)

I learned that subtle minor muscles in my body weren’t firing properly and Justin got me back on track with the crazy Nordic pulleys, levers, and contraptions he uses. I think he’s one of the only people certified in the US with this method!

He’s also very kind, checks in on his clients after every session, and is very detail-oriented to make sure you’re getting the best possible result in every session.

I was looking to supplement traditional physical therapy with additional strengthening but needed to find someone who could work around my recently dislocated knee. Enter Justin and Redcord - the perfect solution. If you've never heard of Redcord, well, neither had I, but let me tell you it is awesome! Justin has been able to make me stronger while working around my injury safely and without any pain. I've seen great results in a relatively short period of time. Plus, Justin is really kind. I am not athletic and was initially worried I wasn't going to be any "good" at this, but Justin always makes me feel like I am capable and motivates me to keep getting stronger every session. Working with Justin and the Redcord system has been amazing! Justin takes the time to assess where you need work, and then designs the work he does with you specifically around that. I was curious to try it out, and boy was I glad I did. He immediately uncovered several areas of imbalance and asymmetry that my body had, likely still lingering from a back injury many years ago. I had gotten rid of the pain, but my muscles weren’t equally strong on both sides, so I was compensating with the wrong muscles in several movements. This is a recipe for getting re-injured again more easily!

We were able to address these areas directly, and work in a very precise and targeted way, to get these muscles to wake up and strengthen, and start working as they should. The Redcord system makes it really easy to focus on a specific muscle and movement, so you can’t “cheat” with other, stronger muscles. It was really incredible to see the differences before and after the sessions.

If you have any injuries you’re trying to heal, or just know you’re out-of-whack from sitting at a computer and texting and all the other ills a modern human body has to deal with, give Justin a call! Highly recommended!

I was working with a personal trainer at CustomFit and became very interested in Rebalanced. I could see harnesses, red ropes, pulleys and equipment that seemed unique and more like physical therapy than fitness machines.

I was born with a defect that has caused me pain and limited motion with my knees all my life. It has always been a struggle to do strength training with my limitations. Working with Justin has been amazing.

Using the Redcord has allowed me to strengthen muscles and increase motion with my knees. Because we work hanging in ropes, any time I need extra support to offload weight, we can add an extra bungee or sling to allow me to a less challenging movement. We have progressed into exercises that I have been afraid to do because I was worried about injury to me knees.

I referred a friend to Justin that has suffered with chronic back paid who also found this to be very helpful. Even my orthopedic doctor is pleased with my progress.

This is really more than just pilates - this is a unique form that really lends itself to people that have injuries or defects that need custom solutions to get maximum results. I recommend Justin to anyone who has issues that have kept you from trying to gain back strength or relieve pain.

I went to see Justin after a low back injury that left me near tears every time I’d bend the slightest bit backwards. He took his time with me trying to identify my weak areas and how we could strengthen them to take the pressure off my back. He could tell right away the first thing I needed to do was strengthen my core. He articulated to me everything he was doing so I understood why we needed to focus on non-back related areas. We did a number of exercises including Pilates to help strengthen my lateral line (of course he explained what the heck a lateral line was and why I needed to strengthen it). I went to a chiropractor a number of times before seeing Justin and the chiropractor was never able to articulate what the problem was. Justin is simply the best.

Justin Grinius has been insightful and eager to help me overcome a decade of chronic low back and hip pain, as well as a shoulder injury that mounted in the months after a significant bike and then knee-boarding accident that turned my life upside down. After one session it was clear to me that the subtle strengthening of smaller muscles and core area was going to be targeted in a way that group pilates classes hadn't been able to. I spent the first 36 hours after our initial private session being pain-free, which was remarkable and unheard of for me in many years. Came to Justin because I’d had a left ankle injury since I was 11. I was starting to roll it every few days and was limping. He helped me activate my flat feet and glutes, correct my gait, and strengthen my left leg. I no longer roll my left ankle and my balance is so much better! I came to Rebalanced after a back injury that had me using a cane to get around. Getting in and out of a car was excruciating. The Redcord method, which involves hanging from an elaborate sling contraption that can be adjusted to exercise very specific muscles, has been a godsend for me. I saw improvement after the first session. After a few weeks I was able to stop taking a prescription NSAID that I had been on for many years. I graduated to a combination of Redcord and Pilates Reformer, which is also helpful. This regime has helped me with other issues/setbacks with my back, knees and neck. This is the ONLY place in the Bay Area where you can currently do Redcord. Justin is a fantastic practitioner-- professional, prompt, caring, and knows his stuff. I am not a person who ever spent much on my health outside of conventional medicine and chiropractic, but this has been so worth it. I now am able to get by with one session per 3-4 weeks. I might enroll separately in a group reformer class to supplement what I do with Justin. Can't recommend Rebalanced enough.

I could barely walk when I started with Justin due to a couple disc herniations. He immediately helped activate other parts of my body to take the burden off my back, and I was back to walking in no time! I now come to Justin weekly for what we jokingly refer to as "prehab," because I spend a lot of time sitting at desks and on planes for work. There are other appointments that I will skip when I'm busy, but I attend my weekly session with Justin religiously. I started training with Justin a year ago to strengthen my core muscles and improve my posture after an injury. I know that Pilates is helpful for back pain. I was also introduced to Redcord training working with Justin which was a great way to compliment Pilates reformer work. He designed an exercise program that helped me find the deep core stabilizing muscles I was having trouble isolating on while exercising on my own. After strengthening the core I was able to focus on my legs and arms also for fully integrated body conditioning. I felt a difference in my body within a month. If I could give Justin 6 stars, I would. He's that good. I started working with him 2 months ago because I have a L5/S1 disc herniation with radiating sciatic pain down my leg. I had done Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, 3 steroid injections and a whole lot of sitting around before I found Justin and discovered the virtues of Red Cord. I wasn't able to walk more than a block without squatting down to make the pain go away. In short, I was seriously contemplating starting a very serious medication and potentially doing surgery.

In just 10 sessions with Justin I've turned a corner. He patiently diagnosed me and I started seeing results after the 1st session. He has carefully built a regimen to gradually retrain me to walk and reposition my pelvic tilt by strengthening my core, glutes, hamstrings and adductors through the magic of Red Cord (and I believe it is truly magical). On top of that, he is a wonderful, generous human, and has given me confidence that there is truly a light at the end of the tunnel.

This weekend, I walked my dog around Bernal Heights Hill, something I didn't appreciate 6 months ago. I truly have Justin to thank. Now that we are moving out of the pain room, I'm going to continue training with him to improve my posture and strengthen my core. I am so grateful that I found him and believe that working with him is both magical and a pure joy. Do yourself a favor and take the plunge with Justin and Red Cord. You won't regret it!

When I was first injured, I wished I had a magic pill that I could take to make it all go away. I didn't find my magic pill, but I did find Justin who came pretty close.

After a year of disc issues in my back and a subsequent SI injury/ very limited mobility, I found Justin online. He thoughtfully listened to my situation and assessed weaknesses in my body. I previously went to other specialists or PTs and none of them were as thorough / insightful as Justin. Justin's entire approach is integration of the entire body, a key element in solving back and hip issues. Since I had not been able to walk much for many months, we had a ways to go in order to build me back up. However, I can say that after about 7 weeks with Justin, I have over double the endurance I had and feel about 65% better.

If it weren't for Justin, I wouldn't be able to take light weekend hikes and walk to work in the morning. So, unfortunately, there is no miracle insta-pill for injuries, but there are miracle-workers. I highly recommend Justin for anyone in recovery or who is just trying to get better results in their workouts.

I absolutely LOVE my Redcord training sessions with Justin – so happy it's now a part of my weekly workouts. I'd tried Pilates reformer classes before, and liked isolating muscle groups and working on my balance – but I felt sometimes like my core wasn't always strong enough to actually get the most out of some of the workouts. So when I found out about Redcord suspension training, I was curious about trying it to see if I could better understand how my other muscles compensate for each other,
and to improve my core strength (Justin's Redcord studio is located at Custom Fit, where I was already doing personal training).

After six sessions, I really truly feel a difference in my body – and the sessions are A LOT of fun!! Justin has helped me discover imbalances in my body, and has helped me correct those movements. For example, we discovered that I'd often lean toward the left side of my body – and I'm a lot more even now. I'm also thrilled that I now understand how much my lower back was compensating for my abs before – and now my core is a ton stronger and I feel I have that *mind body connection* with my core, for the first time! I work at a computer most of the day, and have noticed that since starting Redcord sessions, I don't have the dull back pain/discomfort that would start toward the afternoon. AND I feel like my posture is a lot better now – and that I'm standing taller with my shoulders back, just naturally as a result.

I highly recommend trying Redcord suspension training – for anyone at any athletic level. Justin's expertise is so valuable in identifying how your muscles work together and sometimes compensate for each other, and those corrections have been improving my "regular" gym workouts AND the way I feel after a long day of work!

Great for injury rehab especially issues with the spine. Redcord provides a unique way to offload the body, isolate various parts of the body, activate deep core stabilizers and get kinetic chains of energy firing. Justin takes his time to evaluate your body and find weaknesses, then builds up a plan to strengthen those weaknesses. Definitely worth your time and money.

Justin is a highly experienced and effective Redcord specialist. I started seeing him due to peripheral neuropathy causing numbness in my extremities. We've now had about 5 sessions. The first week I could barely do anything. Each week we had another muscle group to our session. It amazes me that from week to week, progress with the different muscle groups maintains- even with just weekly treatment. The homework he gives is easy to squeeze into even the busiest of schedules.

I also highly recommend Redcord as a treatment. The suspension system is so customizable that injuries and maladies can be treated without causing pain to the patient.

RedCord is very innovative way to get fit. I had only seen it being used in the past with physiotherapist but it makes sense to use it as a work out as it provides a different and more effective kind of work out. Additionally, Justin is very knowledgeable about muscle groups and how they need to be moved to get the most out of the work out. Back in September of 2013 I injured my right knee terribly. Doctor's diagnosis ranged from torn meniscus to chondromalacia patella. Regardless, I went from working out 5-6 days a week to zero. As someone who has worked in the fitness industry for over 10 years, this was an average person's equivalent of not being able to brush your teeth for 8 months. It was depressing and immeasurably frustrating to watch my weight plummet along with my spirits.

Upon a recommendation from a friend, I visited Justin at Rebalanced SF. I'll admit I was skeptical at first. I come from a heavy lifting gym background and didn't know how these slings and pulleys were going to help my knee, but I was literally at the end of my rope.

Justin thoroughly questioned me regarding my symptoms and was meticulous when observing how my body responded when I was suspended by the redcords. Through his skillful teaching I was able to get the rest of my body to do the work while my bad knee was supported. This kept me from exacerbating my injury and gave me a great workout as well.

Justin put me at ease and sessions with him have restored my knee to the point where I am back in the gym consistently with no pain. I also have an added education about this field of fitness and can not thank him enough for giving me my regular life back.
Do not hesitate to visit him. Do not be intimidated by the apparatus. He and his knowledge of Redcord can improve your health, help you get over a plateau or just plain help you feel better about yourself!

Redcord training with Justin is amazing—each time I feel tension released and physically strengthened. The pilates/redcord combo is my favorite because of the incredible variety in exercises. It's easy to achieve an overall workout or focus on a particular area. I also love Justin's approach—he starts with a basic movement and adds progressions to keep pushing the boundaries. I've been to other workout classes and experienced torturous repetitions and seen little payoff but with Justin, I hardly notice the effort and at the same time, I feel great.
