The Recoup team is by far the best group in fitness that I have come across.
I recently decided to make health and fitness a priority after having two discs replaced in my neck. I have known the owner, Matt Fetters, for over 20 years and trained wirh him back then at another gym. Matt and his team are dedicated to getting you in the best shape and their combined knowledge of that process is top tier. In 6 weeks, I lost 7.5 lbs, gained 5.5 lbs of muscle and went down 2 points on the visceral fat scale. I could not have done this without their guidance and knowledge. This gym is the real deal with a team that will help you surpass your goals. Highly recommend!

As a woman in menopause, my body has changed in so many ways the last few years. After doing research, I knew lifting weights was a non-negotiable for bone health and building muscle (and many other positive outcomes). However, I didn’t know where to start. I signed up for an app and bought weights for home workouts. It was okay, but I wasn’t sure if I was doing the exercises correctly and I wasn’t seeing the results I’d expected. After doing weights, adjusting nutrition, and not drinking alcohol, I was still gaining weight (and my body fat kept climbing too.) That’s when I knew it was time to work with professionals.

I had driven by Recoup for years, so I read the reviews. After weeks (maybe months) of being afraid to “work out in a gym” , I felt the fear and requested a consultation anyway. I spoke with Taylor who asked a lot of questions and patiently listened to my plight. We scheduled my first session on that phone call, and I was actually excited about working out.

I went in early before my first session to meet with Dani - one of the trainers - who took some measurements and answered all my questions. That first workout was incredible! I used muscles I didn’t even know I had (and I’ve done pilates several times a week for the last 23 years…).

Weight training with the awesome people at Recoup has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I felt like I could see a difference in my arms after just 2 workouts. I thought it was only me until my daughter asked if I would flex (and then wanted to feel my muscles). Having her comment on my “impressive arm gains” was the cherry on top for me. I am having fun learning new things and getting healthier. But knowing my daughter is watching and noticing will keep me motivated when things get hard.

I am getting stronger and it’s showing in everyday life - like carrying groceries in and getting lids off jars. I am so grateful to everyone at Recoup who has made this such a welcoming and positive experience for me! It is an uplifting community space that already feels like family.

I started at Recoup 6 months ago because my daughter had recently joined. She came home from her initial session and then joined for 18 months!!!
I was unsure about a personal gym because I also belong to one of the gigantic gyms and I figured I can do it myself! However, I hated going to the other gym because you had to wait in line to get onto any equipment. There’s no personal connection and there is no guidance so I would try my best but mostly didn’t bother going! At Recoup, they do a great job of tailoring your workout to your needs and are very sensitive to any injuries you might have. I have issues with my back and the trainers are constantly checking in to make sure I am safe in whatever I am doing there- and not just to cover themselves, but they are truly concerned to make me stronger so my back can be stable.
My daughter and I are both having a great experience with the small gym, accessible equipment, constant feedback, friendly faces, and expertise beyond what I ever could imagine providing for myself or even finding at a huge gym. I have lost a little weight and my clothes fit better too! I really do have more energy and I’m accomplishing a lot more in one day than I did for five months ago. Kudos to the Recoup team!

It is great they have a sense of community. They are building an environment where working out easier since you know the people your working out alongside of. ~ 4:1 training session so more like a class feel and not like someone is just hovering alongside your workout. That way the gym isn’t empty but keep in mind the workout is set to your needs modified as necessary and based on regular assessments so your progress is measurable. So right up my alley of being someone who preferred workout classes over hitting the gym but was disappointed in other HITT or lifting classes because I felt the structure and training wasn’t there to make sure the weights they had us grab were appropriate

I’ve been going to Recoup for a few months now and I have been absolutely loving it. I had been working out on my own at a normal “globo gym” for a few years consistently before giving Recoup a shot. My everyday life has truly changed since joining Recoup. Everything I do physically has become easier— I can take my dogs for longer walks without needing to rest afterward. After moving last month, I noticed I was able to lift boxes more easily, and even though I was sore on moving day, it was in the right muscles because of the training at Recoup. They've helped me build strength in areas that have been weak for years, which makes daily activities much smoother.

I started at Recoup in January 2025, working out twice a week. After just three months, I began to see muscle definition in my biceps—woohoo! Now, after six months, I’m seeing real muscle definition in my legs—double woohoo! The progress has been incredible.

The Recoup team is genuinely special. Every time I walk in, I’m greeted by name, and the trainers are attentive but give me the freedom to do my circuit without feeling watched. That said, they’re always there when you need motivation—they have what I call "teacher eyes," checking in during those tough sets and cheering you on.

One of the biggest game-changers has been Recoup’s nutrition program. It’s taught me how to balance proteins, fats, and carbs, and even switch to eating four meals a day. I never thought I’d be able to do that, but now I wake up at 6 am hungry and excited for breakfast! My meals are now well-balanced making a big difference in my energy and overall health.

I’d like to give a huge shout out to Recoup Personal Training and my co-workers who originally referred me here. I first started with the Balanced Habits nutrition program with Bo’s guidance. I was working out consistently, but I really needed some fine tuning with my eating habits and understanding the science behind macronutrients and what my body truly needed. I am down 14 lbs just by eating smarter and staying consistent. Bo was instrumental in helping me achieve this! I’ve always been intimidated by weight training and wasn’t really sure how to go about it. I’m so glad I found Recoup; it’s the perfect fit for me. It’s personalized and not overwhelming. You’re in an hour-long session with about 6-8 other people, but everyone is doing their own thing, so there’s no pressure to keep up with a big class. The trainers will show you a couple moves, make sure you’re doing it correctly, then move on to help others. After you complete that set, they show you several more and repeat until the hour is up. They are not constantly staring at you and counting reps, etc. but are checking in to make sure your form is correct and things are going ok. There’s no problem making adjustments to the workouts as needed.

The trainers are great and very motivating. You can tell everyone cares about your personal health journey. They do a very thorough intake to understand where you are coming from and your goals. They do regular assessments to make sure they are helping you achieve your goals. The gym is very welcoming with all varieties of people. There’s no gym-bro attitude and everyone is very supportive. They make the hour go so fast!

I’ve achieved great results already after only a couple months. I’m down 10 lbs with increasing muscle mass. I’ve also taken their nutrition course and learned so much about how to fuel my body. My husband, who’s not a beginner at all, recently joined and was very impressed with their ability to meet his heavy-lifting needs.

Great people, great atmosphere, and great results! I used to be intimidated by gyms and when I first walked in to Recoup I felt the same way… for about 2 seconds! Evan and all the trainers are so welcoming and will meet you exactly where you’re at in your fitness journey. They make the exercises challenging but doable and push you when you need that extra motivation without making you feel like you’re not good enough. I first joined Recoup in January. I was very insecure and didn’t have the confidence to join just any gym but once I saw that Recoup was a 3 minute drive from me and it was more of a smaller intimate private gym, I thought I’d check it out and I am more than glad I did! From the minute I called, they were so welcoming, encouraging and excited to get me set up for my first initial in body assessment/first work out. Dani and Matt have been my 5:30am trainers and boy do they push me! (in a good way) lol. Everyone that works there is so kind, motivating, encouraging and supportive in all areas of your goals. Along with all my peers around me as well, I don’t think I’ve met one negative person that has walked into Recoup. It’s all good vibes and that’s what I love!

I took another in body assessment just a month in to my training and in just that one month I had dropped 5.25 inches & decreased my body fat by 1.2%! Not only was I proud of myself but the trainers were proud of me as well. Dani knows how to push me to my limits and keep me going! 👏🏼 Since I’ve started my fitness journey, I have felt better physically, emotionally and have had way more confidence in myself.

I am SO happy that I finally signed up for a training program at Recoup. Ive wanted to build strength and learn how to do everything properly to avoid injuries but I hesitated a long while due to busyness and insecurity about the gym environment. Finally pulled the trigger and gave them a call and It’s been an extremely smooth and supportive process since that first call. All my so called fears have been squashed. This is a great facility for personal training. They are very hands on, super friendly, and professional. If you have a hard time getting up to work out, you may find that you really look forward to it here. I joined because I noticed I was losing strength slowly over the years, and gaining weight. I love being active and wanted to keep up with my friends and family in all our usual activities. Best decision I made. I have noticed I have more energy, and strength, not to mention my clothes fit better. It was in August 2024 that I made the decision to get strong and healthy. I walked into Recoup full of fear one day and oddly enough, they had just finished a staff meeting and all the owners and trainers were there. I had that opportunity to be warmly welcomed by the entire staff the second I walked into the door. I scheduled my first session and they did a health assessment. I know it was not good and I was extremely embarrassed. But what I walked away with was “this is just a starting point to see where you can go!” I weighed the heaviest I had ever been in my life. Dani and Matt started working with me in the mornings. They were encouraging and supportive, but also very determined to make me work hard and get stronger.

Fast forward six months, I am down almost 35 pounds and feel the best I have in years. I have changed many aspects of my life and am focused on getting stronger and healthier. My eating habits have also drastically changed. I could have never done it on my own. I am grateful to all of the staff at Recoup for inviting me into the Recoup family. They continually challenge me and want me to be the best I can be.

On a side note, I have been playing softball my entire life. Since starting this personal training, I have noticed that I run faster, have more agility and can hit the ball harder every game! I've been a member at Recoup Personal Training for the last 6 months, and it's been a great experience. All of the trainers are extremely friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. When you enter the gym each morning, everyone says hello and greets you by name and makes you feel comfortable and welcome. I have always enjoyed weight training, and I also like a one on one personal training workout, so I wasn't sure how I would enjoy this semi-private format with multiple people assigned to each trainer. However, it works great, workouts are challenging, and the trainers constantly adjust exercises for each person in the gym, whether they need more or less weight or any other accommodations due to mobility constraints or injuries.

The community of people at Recoup is also wonderful! I enjoy that its members span a wide range of ages and interests, but everyone is warm, open and friendly. There is a general sense of camaraderie and encouragement rather than competition and one upmanship that is sometimes found in gym environments. Everyone is very supportive and the atmosphere is one of hard work with relaxed egos, which I love.

Recoup also offers a 4-week Kickstart nutrition program which I just completed. This was a great compliment to my weight training efforts and made a big impact on my weight, body fat and muscle mass. Kickstart doesn't function as a diet so much as guidelines for accelerating your metabolism. I was surprised to discover that I actually needed to eat more and not less in order to burn more calories and develop a leaner body. There was no sense of deprivation in this program at all, and I got great results.

In order to measure your strength training progress, Recoup does full strength and body assessments every four months. I just recently had my first assessment, as I started at the gym too close to my first one, which we skipped. I was very pleased with my results! I was able to lift 25 to 50% more weight on every muscle group we tested (shoulder, chest, lats, and leg press). It was surprising to see how much progress had been made in such a short time. In addition, I've noticed in my personal life that my balance is better, my core strength is better, and my back pain is significantly reduced. I used to regularly see a chiropractor, but since starting my workouts at Recoup, I very rarely need to go.

I highly recommend Recoup personal training for your strength training needs, as well as the Kickstart program for nutrition and weight loss. You won't be disappointed!

Joining Recoup Personal Training was THE BEST decision I made in 2024, PERIOD. I have always been daunted at the idea of weightlifting, and I’ve been hesitant to explore more well-known public gyms. However, I hear about Recoup through family and family friends, and since I started taking semi-private sessions 6 months ago, I have never been more confident or excited in my personal fitness journey.

I’ve worked most extensively with Evan, and his training is amazing: he’s upbeat, supportive, and always makes you feel welcome and capable of surpassing the limits he loves pushing you to. I never feel stupid for asking questions, and always feel excited to push myself further and further each week. Since I joined in July 2024, I have seen a notable change in my strength, endurance, muscle mass, confidence, and overall mental health, and it is 10000% because of the Recoup Team.

All of the trainers at Recoup are extremely knowledgeable in their field, and take the time not only to explain the regiments they prepare for you, but take the time to explain why each exercise is done in certain ways, as well as being able to alter movements to fit individuals’ needs. But the main reason I love Recoup and will continue to choose Recoup over the big-name gyms is because of the community. Evan, Dani, Matt, Mikayla, Nick, Bo, and Stevie know everyone on a first-name basis. They prioritize their clients in a way that makes you excited to show up and makes you feel seen and supported. From community fundraisers and bonding events, to the simple act of remembering your birthday, it is clear that Recoup cares.

The only downside is that by rating them so highly and getting them more clients than they know what to do with might mean less time to chat and shoot the breeze with each of them myself! (If you’re still asking if it’s worth it, don’t: it is.)

I’ve been training at Recoup a little over 4 months. I had started my personal training journey 3 months before that at another gym and while I loved it there, I was looking for more structure when it came to scheduling sessions while still being challenged and meeting my fitness goals. I did some pretty extensive research and trial trainings with several gyms and decided to go with Recoup mainly because I felt assured that I wouldn’t have the scheduling issues I was having before and I felt the pricing was a good value for what I would be getting from it. I wasn’t sure at first about their style of semi-personal training vs the 1-on-1 private training I came from. For me there can definitely be pros and cons to that but I felt like the transition was pretty seamless.
Some of the unexpected joys of being here are the wonderful trainers, every one of them are positive, encouraging, knowledgeable, down to earth, and kind. I have met a few great people training here like me as well. I think it’s great that Recoup attracts a variety of diverse people young to old, many different walks of life.
And of course the most important part of all this are the results of my health and fitness. After a little over a month of training there I had a fitness assessment and was surprised that the rate of progress I was making was faster than I expected.
Now about 4 months in, my workouts are always progressively challenging, I sleep better at night, and I feel good about myself for putting in the work and seeing the results. I never thought I would be in the best shape of my life in my mid 40s.
It’s a big decision and commitment to make, but so far my experience here has exceeded my expectations and the investment is totally worth it :)

I’m a working mom of 3 young kids who has tried lots of different things to stay fit—I tried showing up to the gym with no plan, researching my own eating plans and workout plans to do at home, following people on Instagram to follow their programs. Finding the right program, sticking to it and staying consistent all on your own can be hard—especially while juggling all the things as a working mom. All the while, I also have some postpartum and heart issues that make group workouts intimidating.

All this to say, Recoup has been a great landing spot for me. I no longer have to put time into figuring out the best workouts for me. They customize my workouts based on my goals. My goal was to build muscle and cut fat—changing my body composition. And I’m excited to say that since starting 3 months ago, I’ve already lost 3% body fat (gained almost 2.5 pounds of lean muscle and lost about 4 pounds of fat).

The Kick Start program has also been amazing to help me understand the best ways to eat to reach the goals I have. They simplify nutrition in a way that is less intimidating than other ways I’ve tried to count macros and calories on my own.

The staff is encouraging, supportive, while pushing me to try to do things I wouldn’t push myself to do on my own in the gym. The community of people that workout there is also encouraging and fun to be around. Having a personal trainer in this type of setting (rather than a large group workout) has also been great for me to speak up if something isn’t working for me, or if I’m injured. They listen and adapt.

I had been eyeing the Kickstart program for a while and finally signed up for the May 2024 program. I come from a family of snackers, and was never really taught about proper portion sizes or balanced meals. The Balanced Habits nutrition plan is personalized to every individual and their goals, and while there was a bit of a learning curve for me, it has completely changed the way I eat (for the better). In addition to my goals of eating healthier, I also wanted to lose weight and regain strength. I broke both my ankles in July 2022 and was on bed rest for about 5 weeks, in which I gained a lot of weight and lost a lot of muscle. When I started the Kickstart, I added some training sessions to my program to help me regain some of the strength I had lost. The training sessions also helped me work on my balance and stability. At the end of the 1 month program, I had lost 11 lbs, but gained 2lbs of muscle. Most importantly, I FELT better. I officially signed on as a Recoup member once the program was up because I wanted to see how much more I could achieve. As of November 1st, I'm down 44 lbs and have lost about 10% body fat.

I honestly don't think I would've seen these results anywhere else. The environment at Recoup is so wonderfully unique. Bo, Stevie, and Matt have cultivated a space where everybody feels welcome and supported. The trainers, Dani and Evan, are so encouraging and fun to work with; they make me not dread having to get up at 5:45am to work out, which is quite a feat.

After just a couple weeks of going to Recoup, my husband noticed something. He said, "Hey, you're picking things up from the ground and not asking me to do it anymore. You should go more!" If that doesn't tell you where I was physically, I don't know what will. What I do know is that Recoup has helped me get my life back.

This is a place for everyone. I've seen people of all shapes, ages, and skin tones walk through the door smiling and happy to be where they are - even at 5am. Everyone is at their own pace and doing their own thing so you don't feel pressured to "keep up" with anyone. Though they are all smiles, there's no "exercise cult" vibe here.

The trainers are beyond amazing practicing positivity as well. Never felt judged nor shamed. Their top priority is you and your safety so they watch how you move and make sure the weights are okay, if you're moving correctly, and if you're breathing. Corrective feedback is also given in such a constructive way, that I can receive it and move on without feeling bad.

Prices range from $450-700 depending on how often you go weekly and how long you plan to stay (6 months - 1.5 years). So sure, I could have gone to planet fitness down the street for $15/month, but I wouldn't have had the support nor knowledge in how or what is safe.

Unlike other gyms where you have to wait to use a machine, the programs are planned out ahead of time so you're not waiting for someone to finish up. It runs so smooth and easy. I don't have to think about what is next; they tell me exactly what to do.

There's flexibility in what times you want to show up as well. This has been a tremendous thing for me as my schedule moves around so much. They have time slots starting at 5:30am up until 9:30 (i think?) and then have evening classes as well. The latest one is 7pm but only on certain day(s).

Everyone is welcomed to come in and use their cardio machines at anytime they're opened, but all other machines need to be done during your training session.

What I find special too is that they even helped me by writing up a few programs to do when I exercise with a friend somewhere else. Shout out to Dani for the extra work there! They also meet with you about your health and fitness goals and help you reach them. They do check-ins with you outside of your training for this.

Recoup does A LOT to help build a community. They have events and fundraisers going on so as to help build a familial bond as well.

All in all, it's worth every dollar and sore muscle.

After 3.5 months training with Recoup and 2 months doing their nutrition program, I’m down 20lbs and 7% body fat and feeling amazing! But more than stats, the strength I’ve regained has really helped me better enjoy doing the things I love. On a recent canoe camp trip I had to hustle to haul many canoes and gear in a short time span (Federal security gave us a short window to load and be on our way). I was one of the strongest of 28 women there and the newfound strength and stamina was so appreciated. Recoup is whipping me into shape! I go 3x a week and take part in their nutrition program with Bo. I feel accomplished after every 1-hour workout which are never the same (thank you! As I get bored at the regular gym).

I’ve been training with Recoup throughout my pregnancy and after. I was fortunate to have a healthy pregnancy journey and recovery, a large part of which, I think, can be attributed to the regular weightlifting and core exercises at Recoup. I’m so happy I stumbled upon Recoup! I joined the Kickstarter program which is a 4 week nutrition and fitness plan. Although I didn’t lose the 20lbs (my lack of discipline), I still never felt better. I joined recoup two months ago a referral from a friend. I don’t like gyms and I don’t like to sweat, but when I walked in, I felt so welcomed it was not a contest of who was more fit or had the best clothes on. It just felt good to be there. Checking in with me multiple times throughout the week, and when we meet once per week we really get into the nitty gritty of mind set, nutrition and all the things. I’m down in my body fat and up in my lean muscle mass! They really help keep things in perspective and will work with whatever your goals are and how fast you want to reach them. If I lived closer this would be my gym for lifting, maybe they’ll expand to south OC??? :)

I have been training with Matt, Bo and Stevie for over 4 years and am still a huge fan. Can't say enough good things about the entire nutrition and fitness services they provide. The strength training is perfect. They know exactly how to make each session challenging, but doable. I leave the gym feeling accomplished and strong.
The gym is immaculate. Everything is in perfect working order with new equipment being added all the time. It never gets boring!
All of this is what all gyms should include, but with Recoup there's so much more. Really great results after 5 months of working with the team at Recoup--in terms of body fat composition, losing weight, gaining strength, and having more energy in my day to day life. The training sessions are small group (semi-private) so I felt I got the right kind of instruction and attention to prevent injury and get the most out of exercises. If you have ever reached a plateau in your life it can be a frustrating feeling. You push hard towards goals and do not see progress. I am blessed to be surrounded by wonderful people who are there for me on every type of journey. I have access to every type of nutrition tip and fitness program, but sometimes it takes a different voice to break through and help you move in the right direction. A few months ago I reached out to Bo Wind who is one of my amazing trainers at Recoup Personal Training in Costa Mesa. Bo helped me change up some of my foods. I’ve been practicing KaiZen for many years and live by the mantra “where performance is measured, performance improves”. Unfortunately, the bad eating habits that had little impact on my weight (160 – 170 lbs) during my 20’s and 30’s, resulted in significant weight gain throughout my 40’s. At 52 years old, I started my journey to get healthy again in March 2019 and weighed 228. I started working-out with a personal trainer 2-3 times/week, stopped eating fast food for breakfast and increased my protein intake. By the end of the year, I lost 10 pounds and got stronger. I was not satisfied with my results over that 10-month period, so I switched to Recoup in January. In my first month, Bo invited me to participate in the 28-day KickStart nutrition program which started on January 20. I lost an additional 14 pounds, 2.5 inches off my waist and an inch off my thighs and calves! My body fat % was now at 25%. This was the proof I needed to make permanent changes in my nutrition.

When the KickStart was over, Bo offered me an 8-week Dynamo program to take my nutrition to another level. The results were another 11 pounds lost, 2 more inches off my waist and an inch of fat off my biceps! In 3 short months, I lost 25 pounds compared to only 10 pounds in 10 months with my previous trainer and gym. What a difference choosing the right gym and team makes! At this point, I wanted to see how much further I could take this, so I continued to challenge myself with the support of Bo, Matt & Stevie. As of September 11 (less than 8 months into my 2020 weight loss) I reached the 40 pounds lost milestone bringing my total loss to 50 pounds and my body fat % is now down to 15%! Stevie does motivational Friday talks which are enlightening and inspirational, Bo is an excellent coach and guide for nutrition and Matt kills it in the gym. I think the family owned/small business mindset is truly what sets them apart. All of them know whats going on at any given time and they just care.

What makes Recoup different from other gyms is definitely the trainers. Matt, Stevie and Bo are truly quality people and trainers. They take the time to listen and interact with their clients so they understand the goals of each individual as well as each clients limitations and expectations. The workouts are carefully planned and explained, and they watch and assist as needed to make sure the exercises are done properly with good form.

I have never been happier with a gym than at Recoup. The feeling of community and belonging is second to none. Keep up the good work Recoup!!

I have been training wiith Matt for 3+ years now.. he really helped me get back to where I wanted to be health and body wise after my first baby so once I was ready to lose weight and get strong after my second baby I knew Recoup was the only place I trusted to go!

I have now trained with Matt and the amazing Bo & Stevie at Recoup and they each bring a different but cohesive approach to how they help me and their other clients. From when I walk into the gym until I leave I feel comfortable and motivated and that is very important to me when it comes to my fitness and life goals. Recoup Personal Training is the perfect training studio to work toward your fitness & health goals. The new gym is awesome and has all the best equipment you can think of. The quality of their trainers is what makes them really stand out!! Each of their programs are tailored to the client's needs, so don't go in expecting a standard program.
I always enjoy and look forward to coming in for my training sessions. I've trained with Bo for the past few months (first at her previous location), and highly recommend her! She’s literally one of the best trainers I’ve ever met! Not only is she bubbly, kind and so so sweet, but she keeps a close eye on my weights and form and never lets me get comfortable or complacent on any exercise.
I'm constantly learning new moves, improving my technique, and enjoying the challenges Bo throws at me in each session. I just started their 28-Day KICKSTART program. This is a nutrition program and is super easy to follow and is very personalized. I am already seeing great results! This isn’t just a “diet”, but a program that helps you adjust your attitude towards food and nutrition. It really helps you understand the value of food and how it can transform your body.
