As a fellow parent, I wanted to share a more balanced perspective based on our family's long experience with RGC.

My daughter has been attending RGC for the past eight years and has been part of the competitive team for seven of those years. We’ve had a consistently positive experience—not just with the coaching, but also with the overall atmosphere and communication.

First and foremost, RGC is part of AAU Gymnastics, and all coaches are required to undergo background checks. The claim that coaches are unqualified or unchecked is completely false. They couldn’t be part of the program without passing those checks. Over the years, we’ve found the coaches to be knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely invested in the safety and growth of each child.

Yes, like any sport that involves physically demanding skills, injuries can happen. That’s part of gymnastics, whether you're at a small-town gym or an elite training center. What the previous reviewer failed to acknowledge is that these athletes are working on high-level, challenging skills. Accidents can happen anywhere, and it’s not a reflection of the gym being unsafe—it’s the nature of the sport.

As for Sandy, the owner, she has always made it clear during team parent meetings that she is not typically present during team hours. That is not a secret or a red flag—it’s the structure of her business. She has trained and trusted staff in place for day-to-day operations, which is normal for any business owner. She is reachable through the front office and via email, and any concerns we've had were addressed when brought to her attention. What’s unfortunate is that some people choose to air grievances publicly without even attempting to have a direct conversation with her.

It’s disheartening to see one-sided reviews that don’t reflect the experience of many of the families here. RGC has been a second home to my daughter, and she has grown so much under the guidance of the coaches—not just as a gymnast, but as a young woman gaining confidence, discipline, and resilience.

Before forming an opinion based on a negative review, I’d encourage other parents to visit the gym, talk to the staff and other families, and see the environment for themselves. Our experience has been nothing but supportive, safe, and encouraging.

My daughter went to RGC for three years—two taking regular classes and one on their competitive team. She started when she was 10 and is now 13.

It’s easy to look at all the first place trophies and banners on the walls and think that means this place is high quality. It’s easy to look at their website with all the smiling faces and think the same thing. But, the problem with this is that it is a lie.

In my opinion, based on our three years of experience, the owner only cares about making money. This is a business and the girls are just numbers/dollars. I should have known when the red flags began piling up, but my daughter was having fun so I chose to ignore them. That’s on me, but my hope is to share what I’ve seen and learned so you don’t make the same mistakes.

One big red flag is that it’s practically impossible to actually speak to the owner. She has no direct phone number or email address. Everything has to go through the front office person or the coaches, which gives her lots of plausible deniability allowing her to claim to never get information or be aware of issues. What this means is you have basically no way of communicating problems with the owner. Sandy claims to care, but if she did she would make herself available for parents to talk to directly and she doesn’t.

Another red flag is that Sandy is practically never on site. (Or to clarify, to the best of my knowledge she has never been on site at the same time as I have over the last three years and I’ve been there a lot.) She regularly leaves everything in the hands of her young staff & coaches. Who by the way do not have to be background checked or finger printed. There is NO STATE MONITORING OR OVERSIGHT BOARD of gymnastics businesses. This means Sandy can hire “coaches” with minimal gymnastics teaching qualifications.

Again, based on my experience RGC has significant safety issues. The coach to kid ratio is very high, even for the little kids. I personally watched a little kid run away from their class, out the front door and into the parking lot without the coach even noticing. I had to tell the coach who then ran after the kid, but then she left the 10+ other little kids with no supervision. Additionally, they regularly open their big garage style doors along the back of the gym. They only place a small chain across it, which offers no safety protection for the little kids. They can easily run right outside into the alley where cars drive by. In fact, my daughter saw a little kid sit on that chain, fall backwards and cracked her skull open. A kid could easily run right out and get hit by a car.

Multiple times my daughter and her teammates were told by coaches to push through the pain and do skills even when they were hurt and injured. Just this year a girl broke her arm in two places at practice and required surgery, another slipped doing a floor activity hitting her head causing a major concussion. Both girls had to go to the ER, and to the best of my knowledge neither girl returned to RGC after their injuries. Another girl hit her head and had the wind knocked out of her after she fell off the bars. Her head hurt afterwards and a coach told her she couldn’t just sit and rest. She forced her to keep practicing. A second teammate told a coach her back hurt from an injury and she couldn’t do any skills using her back, but the coach ignored her and told her she had to do them anyway.

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that seeing what I have seen, and my daughter has experienced, Sandy doesn’t actually care about making sure the kids are safe. In my opinion, safety takes a back seat to profit. She claims otherwise, but our experiences speak louder than her words.

Knowing what I do now, I would never enroll my daughter at this gym. It isn’t safe. I highly encourage you to find somewhere else for your child to learn gymnastics. Gymnastics is a dangerous sport, but based on our personal experience this business makes it even more so.

Do not allow your child to go onto the mat without you as the parent being present. My kid moved up in the program where the parents didn’t have to be out there with them. I insisted that I go out there with him still, as my child would not go without me.

I tried to go away off of the map, and my child proceeded to follow me as he didn’t want me to leave. As my child was walking toward me with me only being a foot or two away from him one of the instructors proceeded to grab him and yank him back hard. I walked back toward my child and the instructor was holding my child aggressively not allowing him to come to me. I moved towards my child I told the instructor to never grab my child like that again, as my child was crying from the pain that the instructor caused on his arm. The instructor just stated that it’s our policy to grab the child when the parents are not on the mat to keep them safe. I told them I understood that, however I am and was on the mat with my child and they still yanked him causing him harm and causing him to be terrified. The instructors I also noticed talk very harshly to the when the parents are not on the mat.

The instructors for the parent participation are really nice, however the instructors beyond that are harsh and mean towards the kids and do not treat them kindly, do not let your kids out of your sight no matter what age or group their in as these instructors will cause emotional and physical harm to your child. I even has to tell the instructors multiple times that if the parents knew how they were talking to their kids no kid would be participating in Redlands Gymnastics.

For your own sake, stay as far away from this place as you can.

I wanted to like this place but I feel they should clean down equipment after each session. It was very worn down inside as well. My daughter came in for a first session and it seems the Instructors had favorites… we didn’t really get acknowledged and didn’t feel welcomed at all. I felt kinda out of place. They were also not willing to work with your working schedule… the lady at the front was very rude to me. Take your business elsewhere !

Some instructors are good, but unfortunately the instructor my child got is lazy. She wastes a lot of the time talking to other instructors or other students that are not in her class. My daughter has been in the beginners class called tumble kids and hasn't learned much. They hardly give any individual attention. They give them activities to do but then leave them there to do it on their own without any help or instruction. Looking for a different place to take her.

My 11 month daughter is new to Redlands gymnastics. Long story short, I was charged a $10 ($78 instead of $68) late fee for not paying by the 5th… my fault. What threw me off was the rude lady at the front desk and lack of authority/options she had when it came to having a discussion about possibly waiving the fee. Completely brushed me off, rude tone, couldn’t look me in the eyes. I’m not trying to be mean, but the front desk is the face of the company. I plan to keep daughter in gymnastics for a very long time, but not at a place that completely disregards their clients.

At least the coaches are wonderful and my daughter has the time of her life. The other parents are friendly and watching all the babies are precious 🫶🏻

My only complaint is that there's not a huge amount of discipline and structure so, for a child like mine who gets distracted easily, I felt like there was too much time spent allowing the kids to do their own thing without individual attention being paid to them. Still, it's a very fun place and we're happy to return for special events or maybe more classes in the future.

I really liked going here but I went and my daughter didn’t stop crying and a few ladies that were there with their kids or maybe even grandmas looked at my 2 year daughter so horrible one of them actually dogged my daughter and rolled her eyes at her because she didn’t stop crying it made me feel really uncomfortable and after I’m done paying for this I will not be coming back I thought it was this was a place with positive energy but I guess I was wrong my daughter actually might have autism what do they expect it’s a toddler class of course it’s going to be kids crying my daughters obviously was going through something emotionally that was bothering her and that was her way of speaking I never been so disgusted by adults my little baby was just a two-year-old they’re grown immature enough to understand that kids cry!

We absolutely love Redlands Gymnastics Club! My daughter adores her coach and asks every day if it’s gymnastics day. We also did my son’s birthday party there. Prices were very reasonable for 20 kids and unlimited adults which is unheard of with birthday party venues. The 3 RGC employees who worked the birthday party were SO GOOD with the kids and they took care of everything! Ran games and gave out prizes, played with the kids, helped with gift opening and made a list of who gave what, cut and passed out cake, and even put all of the gifts in our car for us! This place is seriously the best and I wish I could give it 10 stars!

My 3 year old daughter goes here and she loves her class. She looks forward to her class every week. Ms. Kat is an amazing, caring teacher and my daughter loves to follow her lead. They show them exercise’s and change it up every week to keep the kids engaged and having fun while still learning. I love it here they did a really good job making me and my daughter feel welcome and really made her feel like she belonged. The staff and all the teachers really try hard to ensure my child is safe and they really know how to enact with the kids. My daughter really loves going on the balance beam and going on the trampoline. She also loves the little snacks we get right before we leave lol.

I was worried my daughter was not being socialized since she’s a pandemic baby. I enrolled her in gymnastics and she loves it! At first she was really shy and didn’t want to participate but teachers were patient and kind to her. I really feel she is learning new things every week and definitely getting exercise. Thank you!

My daughter Wesley and our family absolutely LOVE Redlands Gymnastics! My daughter is a newbie to gymnastics but the coaches and staff are so professional and they go above and beyond to connect with each little gymnast training them how to be stronger using drills that support balance, flexibility, agility and coordination. I’m observing that the technical aspects being taught are coupled with the coaches having the right temperament in the training. They are professional, friendly, well equipped with knowledge to teach, and you can actually tell that they LOVE their jobs working with kids. The kids always look like they enjoy coming here. The gym is always clean and organized and I love that the staff has implemented sanitation procedures, especially during the Pandemic.
I also love that Redlands offers other fun activity days on the weekends so that the kids can bond, have fun and play with other kids. This gives the parents time for themselves.
We will definitely be returning next year!

My kids love this place, I have enrolled my 2 year old and my 4 year old. My kids looks forward to their class every week. We are new to this and they love it. First trial class today . Inadequate supervision for the kids. Coach didn’t even watch kids during the obstacle course and left for a water break during the time the kids were doing the course! Didn’t walk through the course to show them how to do it! Lazy coaches. Absolutely dangerous as my niece was on a box by herself, no one around. Some kids got special attention and others did not. No water breaks, but coaches got water? Called tumble tots, but didn’t tumble. Overall thoughts: this is a giant day care center. Not coming back.

They really did a great job making my child feel welcome. All the little details did not go unnoticed by me. From her name on the welcome board at our trial class, to the coaches all knowing everyone's name (despite how many kids they must have), to the sweet little postcard after joining, the high fives all through practice, and even a medal when she got promoted to the next level. Whoever is doing the organizing and marketing for this club is doing a great job.

The energy is positive, friendly and welcoming. It's very well structured, organized and punctual. The office staff always answers the phone and responds to emails really quickly.

The special nights are a great time for the kids, too.

Great birthday party. Our kids set up our grandson's 4th birthday and it was great. Their staff sets up, cleans up and even takes the presents out to your car. In the meantime, they lead games for the kids. Everyone had a great time. Perfect place for a kids party!!!

My daughter has been a member for 8 years. She absolutely loves the staff, the girls that she attends with and of course gymnastics. She never was made to feel bad for what she couldn’t do but was always encouraged to keep trying. When she was on team, we went to other gyms across Southern California and none were half as nice as Redlands Gymnastics. The coaches on the other teams pushed their girls too hard and acted like gymnastics was the pinnacle of life. Our coaches were loving, encouraging and never pushed the girls too hard. I would not put her anywhere else!
