I tweaked my knee before I left for class, and Zan provided me with modifications for the entire workout to avoid squats - on leg day. She’s such a hero and helped me still get a good workout in despite the squat heavy exercises!

I first came across Renegade on ClassPass and was so impressed with the experience that I decided to become a member. This gym offers a wide variety of bootcamp like classes with fantastic energy and some truly talented coaches. While there are a few who are overly egotistical and could use a come back to earth reality check and a touch more humility, the majority of the coaching staff is excellent. Two standouts are Gabrielle Y. and Christian Q., who make working out an absolute pleasure. Gabrielle’s welcoming demeanor and contagious positivity create a great atmosphere, and Christian’s coaching style is equally motivating and supportive.

The classes themselves are high-energy, challenging, and adaptable to different fitness levels. What I love most is that each coach brings their unique style and energy to the table. Once you find the coach who resonate with you, it’s easy to stick with them and stay consistent. The variety keeps things interesting, and you’ll never get bored while working toward your fitness goals.

One of the challenges, however, is parking. Since Lazy Acres put up signs claiming what feels like half the lot, finding a spot can be a headache. I’ve learned not to arrive too early because spots typically free up only once the previous class ends. While it can be frustrating to circle the lot, a little patience and timing go a long way. It’s something to keep in mind when planning your visits.

The gym itself could benefit from more regular cleaning and maintenance. A deep cleaning is definitely overdue, as dust, hair, and even cobwebs can be seen in corners. Some benches are rusty and could use replacing. While these issues don’t take away from the quality of the workouts, they do detract from the overall experience. Many other gyms in the area have weekly professional cleaning services, which could be a great addition here to help maintain a fresher, more polished environment.

Despite these minor drawbacks, Renegade remains a fantastic place to work out. The membership is reasonably priced, although ClassPass is still more affordable and offers lower price penalties for late cancellations. Overall, the quality of the classes and the dedication of standout coaches like Gabrielle and Christian make this gym worth checking out. If you’re looking for a challenging yet welcoming environment to achieve your fitness goals, Renegade is a solid choice—just plan ahead for parking and connect with the coaches whose energy aligns with yours!

Been going to Renegade Hillcrest for the last couple months. The workouts and coaches are excellent, but can’t give this place five stars because it is filthy. One thing you want in a gym is cleanliness, it is so dirty in there it feels gross — I don’t think it’s been properly cleaned in many many months. There is dust caked on the ledges and floors. The rack areas have legitimate dust bunnies against the walls. The gym desperately needs to be deep cleaned.

I completed a free trial and ultimately did not purchase a membership due to the Hillcrest location (closest to me) being extremely dirty. Floor and weight racks are very dirty and dusty, the place feels like it hasn't been properly cleaned in months.

I’ve been going to this gym for a few months now and i love it so much! It’s a bit tough to find spots available for the morning slots if you don’t jump on them as soon as they are available. The coaches are all awesome. Especially Liz Y. Is fabulous! She is so patient, friendly, and motivates you to be your best. Lover her classes.

I've been coming to Renegade for 8 months now, and I'm really impressed with the quality of the classes. The instructors are particularly noteworthy.

Two instructors consistently stand out: Liz and Tyler. Liz excels in her instruction. She's detail-oriented, ensuring everyone understands each exercise. She also provides modifications for different fitness levels, making her classes inclusive for everyone.
Tyler brings an unmatched level of motivation to his classes. His positive energy is infectious, and he has a knack for personalizing challenges to push each student further while maintaining safety. His playlists and the energetic atmosphere he creates make his classes my absolute favorites.

My only issue is that some teachers finish the classes 5-7 minutes late in the morning. While I don't mind this on weekends, it adds a little rush to my day during the week before I head to work.

Overall, Renegade offers exceptional fitness classes with top-notch instructors!

I love this gym, I think it’s a great workout… intense but fun and leaves you sweating and feeling KILLER afterwards, full body!! The instructors are great and kind and helpful and motivating.

Cons: I HATE HATE HATE the cancellation policy here. I pay $100 a month for UNLIMITED classes but am charged $17 for no show, and $15 if I cancel within less than 8 hours of the class. I understand why cancellation and late fees are in place but it’s just not fair, sometimes LIFE HAPPENS. People are exhausted, in pain, sore, stuck at work, have to pick up their kid earlier than expected.. LIFE HAPPENS and every time I miss a class, I’m charged. If I don’t cancel EIGHT hours before.. I’m charged. It just doesn’t seem fair to have this cancellation policy in place. It’s like the owners of this gym do not understand that LIFE HAPPENS. I’m tired of paying $15 on top of the $100 I already pay when an unexpected event comes up in life and I can’t go to class. Super super super upsetting. I’m almost at the point of cancelling this membership because it’s just too strict. I’m spending way too much money cancelling because I HAVE A LIFE AND THINGS HAPPEN.

Just moved to San Diego and was looking for something kind of like CrossFit. This is not CrossFit, but it’s still similar in the fact that it’s a great HIIT workout. It may seem overwhelming at first because of being a quick, targeted experience, but just go with the flow and you’ll have a great time with some good people and great trainers. Most importantly, you’ll be dripping with sweat at the end of every single workout!

I freaking love this gym. If you are thinking about signing up do it. The workout is intense but in a good way. When I first started it was definitely intimidating. The workout is fast pace and there are a lot of movements so you really need to get a handful of classes under your belt before you start to become proficient. The beauty of that though is that the instructors as well as the other more experienced members do a great job of showing you the ropes. I did my 3 day free days then decided to buy an 8 class pass, by the end of the 8 classes I was hooked and signed up for the unlimited pass. Now I feel like something is missing when I don't get my 6 classes in each week. Before Renegade I would go to the gym and do my thing which was fine but the workout at Renegade is leaps and bounds beyond anything I could ever accomplish in a visit to the gym. The instructors are awesome and I have learned so much since I have started. For $139 a month it is a steal, I certainly get my monies worth.

I've been coming to Renegade for almost a year now and its the best workout experience I've ever had. It's not cheap compared to a place like 24 hr fitness but you never have to wait for machines or plan your workouts, they take care of that for you, as well as the music. You basically get a 2 hour workout done in less than an hour and since you book your classes in advance it helps you stay consistent. I highly recommend trying it out.

Started going here because its close to my work, staying because its a great workout. Coaches are helpful and will correct you if your doing something wrong. Have had the coach come up and have me grab a heavier weight when they think I could handle it and also to drop weight when my form wasnt having it, I appreciate that. I think Renegades got a really good balance of cardio to weightlifting. I did Orange Theory in the past, cant complain, they are good too, but tried Renegade as it was closer to my work and personally think Renegade gives me more of what Im after. I get my heart pumping (OT did that great too) but I feel I get in more strength training with Renegade.

I also really appreciate the pricing structure, you can purchase classes and they DONT just all expire that month (I think you have A YEAR to use them haha). I had an injury (not related to class) and had to take a few months off and I didnt need to jump through hoops to "put my membership on pause" or anything like Ive experienced elsewhere. Im now back in and all my classes were there waiting for me. 5 stars

An incredibly solid workout worth checking out and/or adding to supplement your workout routine.

I've heard of Renegade through word of mouth from multiple friends, and only recently decided to check it out - shout out to my good friend, Jose Valencia for bringing me along.

You will be sweating - no questions asked. You'll be moving through three stations or in other terms, three different sections - Cardio, Rack and Turf. Each section will have a set of exercises to complete, inclusive of recovery time and alternative workouts, if you can't perform one of the listed movements. There are white boards located throughout the studio to help you keep track of the current workout.

Honestly, I was pretty overwhelmed for my first two classes. However, you'll eventually catch on! Sometimes it takes a class or two to get calibrated. The best thing to remember is that you're on your own journey and pace and everything is just a recommendation. Just try to make friends with a neighbor and they'll show you the ropes. Each time I went, everyone was super friendly, accommodating and totally helped out whenever I had a question.

Kudos to Jordan Tuzon for being an awesome instructor. He was fun, engaging, personable and super helpful throughout class - especially for a beginner like myself. Often times, it's hard for new people to get quickly up-to-speed with a workout class, especially with unfamiliar exercises and/or the structure of the class. It's easy to feel like you're lagging behind the rest of class and/or being a distraction for being that "new guy," but Jordan didn't make me feel like that at all. He was thorough, kind and most importantly, patient, in addition to delivering a comical, top-notch workout experience. If you're his boss, give this man a raise. He's definitely a tier above some of the coaches I've had at other group fitness classes.

Pro-tips:
- Bring a towel
- Bring a water bottle
- Bring a buddy :)
- Take Jordan's class

Overall, I'm a fan and will be adding to Renegade to my workout regime.

As someone who is not a stranger to commercial gyms, it’s nice to feel like a beginner again and get the opportunity to experience new training styles that are unique to Renegade.

I had never combined shoulders/legs before but I was really surprised at how balanced all movements were. Ending with 4 minutes + on the assault bike was brutal and I probably would’ve given up had I not been in the class setting. It was nice to be pushed in a reasonable way that helped me to accomplish something new.

Really enjoyed Coach Luis’ guidance throughout the class as I build up my knowledge of Renegade’s programming.

Been going to renegade since 2021 and still love every class. The workout is hard but also very rewarding. Stronger than ever! I used to be a pilates and spin girl and now my fitness is on a whole new level since going to renegade.

I was also able to continue working out at renegade when I had broken my foot and had surgery last winter and because the instructors were very helpful in providing me with me modifications for each class that I attended. I felt very safe in each workout. Renegade probably helped me heal quicker, physically and mentally, in the long run since I wasn’t just sitting around during my foot recovery.

Highly recommend trying some classes at renegade. Fast pace with a good emphasis on strength training with some cardio.

I live in Old Town and have been going to the Hillcrest and Point Loma locations for a few weeks now. I’ve never been a big class guy but I love the Renegade workouts. The coaches are all awesome and the workouts are always different and interesting. Highly recommend!

This location is a bit tighter fit, but same sentiment: What a great find! LOVE these classes. Great in-and-out, calorie scorching, challenging (but fun) concept. Great job Renegade!

If you live in the Hillcrest / Mission Hills / Banker's Hill neighborhood, I would highly recommend Renegade! The 50 minute HIIT classes are a highly challenging and fun workout that varies each day targeting different muscle groups. The instructors are encouraging and vigilant to ensure proper technique -- special shoutout to Courtney. They have classes almost every hour so they are very flexible to build a routine and form habits around. Overall, the community is also welcoming and even myself have formed good friends I met from class. You will feel results in weeks!

Hands down the best work out & team in San Diego! I couldn’t imagine starting my day anywhere else. If you’re considering joining a gym that will not only challenge you physically but mentally, THIS IS IT!

My favorite workout class ever! They play the best music to pump you up, the trainers are very motivating and will help you with your form and they switch up the exercises every class so it stays fun. The classes can be medium or as hard as you want. Perfect for all levels!!

I've been working out with renegade for 6 months, maybe more.
Amazing trainers
Complex and challenging workouts
One of the few that uses a lot of weight training
Love love love the assault bikes and air runners
Love the body part focused days m-th
And the full body days f-su
I will continue to come back here
Great challenging workout
Only thing is I wish the other people who went were a little more friendly
I've found it like wierd/standoffish a bit which is funny because you mostly see the same people. Maybe people here dont like to socialize? Just get their workout in and leave. Whatevs. Still and awesome place.

Had another great workout at Renegade today, this time at their Hillcrest location! I was nervous to try the METCON class at first, but I'm so glad I did. Tim is a great instructor that will motivate you to push your limits, while still creating a class environment that is fun and accessible for beginners like myself. He patiently explains each exercise, and is quick to provide kind assistance if you're ever confused about the moves during the round. While the classes are challenging, I'm never made to feel inadequate, and I always leave feeling accomplished (and sweaty)! Love this place and looking forward to many more workouts to come.

I spent years doing various workouts. Never really satisfied with one place. I was a loyal ClassPass user until they got rid of unlimited classes. On my quest for my next gym, I walked out of my first class at Renegade Fitcamp and knew I had found what I was looking for. The format is three, 15-minute segments. One in the rack (with weights, bands, TRX), one on the turf (with steps, bands, gliders, battle ropes, and kettlebells), and one cardio (between the treadmill and assault bikes). In each block you have your own personal space and can work at your own pace. Each weekday focuses on a different muscle group, so if you go every day you are covered! While you will see a handful of the same exercises throughout the week, every workout is different! I am never bored. There are blue lights above the treadmills, which make you glow if you’re wearing neon, which I make a point to do. It’s a small but delightful touch that makes me happy, while making the cardio block a little bit easier. Cleanliness is very important to the Renegade team. The gym is constantly cleaned and never gross, and the equipment is brand new (as of 4-2-18)!! The instructors are excellent. Both helpful with corrections and modifications and encouraging as you sweat it out. The workouts are listed on the whiteboards every day, and the instructors explain and demonstrate (for the visual learners) the exercises before class and then guide you through your workout. I love starting off my day here. Definitely give it a try!
