Never experienced this before. Was working out and stopped for a few seconds to reply to a text from my son.
Courtney came over and said that I need to step out if I need to text. I totally understand talking on the phone, but replying to a quick text seems odd, especially since I saw multiple people doing it and watched to see if she would tell them the same thing, but did not. Why do I need to leave the class just to reply to a quick text? Then, while i was on the treadmill, she came over and asked my name, I told her. Then she said she did not see me on the class list
today, which of course I am. Then she walked off. At the end of the class she came over and told me its "common sense" to know you cant text in there. I hate to think this is a discrimination thing since I was the only one she spoke to and the only person of color out of the 50 attendees, but it definitely seemed that way. Will definitely get my lawyer to look into this, and her, and will not be attending this gym again. I don't want to put this on the gym as a whole because Ive been to renegade a few times and never experienced this. But if you are a person of color, I wouldn't recommend Courtney's class. Highly considering taking legal action.

We went as a couple and booked the free trial class on a Sunday at 9 a.m. Our coach was Serhan, who immediately noticed we were new and kindly welcomed us, explaining how everything worked. That makes a big difference when you’re visiting a gym for the first time.

The gym has three stations, and the routine consists of 17 minutes at each one. We did endurance, cardio, and strength training for a full hour. It was a complete and fun workout. We definitely plan to come back.

I recently started going to Renegade and I really like it. They have a free 3 day trial you can sign up for which is how I got started. I’ve been looking for HIIT/strength classes that I enjoy and hadn’t found anything I liked. I tried F45, Performance 360, amongst others, which I decided were not my jam, so I honestly figured I’d feel the same way here.
I like that when you’re in a “block” doing whatever exercises are in that block that it’s just you, you’re not sharing weights, or waiting on other people to finish to move on to the next exercise like at F45, which in turn allows you to get in good solid reps because you’re not spending a bunch of time going to another station with other people. The trainers are super knowledgeable and keep you motivated. Long story short I ended up getting their monthly unlimited class pass. Also a huge deciding factor for me was the number of classes they have per day, they have a class every hour from 5am-7pm most days, so there’s no excuse to not find a time that works for you. Definitely worth a try if you’re looking for a good HIIT class that actually challenges you. 10/10 recommend.

Renegade is an absolutely worthwhile investment for your health! It provides a whole body workout for enduring strength, health and overall wellness/wellbeing. Regardless of your level of fitness, you will have 4 week options to increase your mobility/balance, strength and toning, and overall performance in life and sports. Classes are small group with opportunities to get attention and guidance. There are also multiple times to take classes as well as locations. NO EXCUSES!!! And best of all pricing is competitive as this feels like having a personal trainer given the size of the group.

I took my first class at El Cajon - Renegade with Rachel, a professional coach and athlete. I was so.impressed at the cadence and challenge. You can adapt to the level you are and challenge yourself with someone there who will guide and encourage you along. Keep moving and try Renegade for a better you and health!!

By far my favorite work class in San Diego. This class is actually enjoyable and every single coach I have ever had has been amazing. It doesn’t feel cliquey like other gyms can in SD everyone is super welcoming. The instructions are clear and written on the wall and the coach constantly walks around helping you if you look lost. The prices are also very reasonable compared to most other classes in SD. I would highly recommend this class to everyone!!!!!!

This place has gotten me back in shape after not doing anything for 10+ years. I was always intimidated going into a cross fit gym but this place has the tempo I’ve been looking for. I love the class times and the atmosphere in Renegade which is why I drop into classes a few times a year to switch things up. I love this location because it's a lot more spacious than some of the other ones and feels on the newer side (or they're just great at keeping it maintained!). The trainers I've worked out with here are all great - good energy and good introductory instruction. I give it a 4 because I am not always a huge fan of the workouts - I feel like even coming in infrequently we repeat a lot of the same moves/routines. Some days it also moves so fast I don't feel like I can properly gauge what weight I want and challenge myself before the set is over / timer goes off. However, I have seen firsthand the amazing results my sister has gotten from Renegade going consistently for several years, so I know it's a good workout. I like the emphasis on strength with a touch of cardio - for someone who hates cardio it's just the right amount to push myself without dreading it like I used to dread Orangetheory.

A solid ~50min workout that rotates you 3-4 times through 2-3 modules at each of the three stations. Most exercise can be modified to be easier/harder depending on where you're at in your fitness journey or just your week

Dallas, Nick, Kaily are great instructors for the format

Considerations
- Wish they set volume limits, one instructor plays music so loud I have to bring ear plugs to class just in case he's a last minute sub.
-Wish there was a mid-weight medicine ball
-Keep in mind total reps completed for single arm/leg movements to ensure you balance out both sides with an equal number of reps ( they always start with the right which is the stronger side for most.)

100% agree with the review left by Rebeka a few weeks ago. I’ve been coming to renegade for a few months now and loved it up until the recent changes made by management with zero communication. First, they removed any weight lighting component from the cardio station which I’ve heard many members complain about. We aren’t here to strictly run for 15 minutes, we could all save ourselves some money and not come here if we just wanted to run. It’s boring and feels like a waste of our class time that we all pay for. Second, they completely change the workout splits, again without previous notice until you show up to class and your trainer tells you you’re doing biceps, core, and legs instead of just lower body. Renegade needs to stick what they’re good at and quit it with these changes that no one is asking for. I hear members complain about these changes to our coaches at almost every class I attend and it seems that management doesn’t care to listen to our feedback.

Aside from these extremely annoying and inconsiderate changes, renegade has some of my favorite coaches (shoutout coach Nick and Chalsea) and I hope they reconsider going back to the previous class format.

I have been with Renegade since its inception. I have known a lot of great trainers at this HIIT gym. The staff all have great energy, skillful in their coaching and correct you with posture or technique. There are multiple locations in SD and each facility has its own vibe with multiple training sessions throughout the day. Classes are mixed typically with a 50/50 ratio of male/female with mid average age of participants. The music selection is good, gyms are fairly clean but could always use more upkeep. Equipment is on the newer side and always being well maintained. Long story short, come in for a complimentary workout and see for yourself. You will walk out not only with a sweat but proud of how much you pushed your body and feeling great after being immersed in all those beta endorphins.

It’s always nerve wrecking to walk into circuit classes but it’s a welcome environment with dimmed blue lighting so you don’t feel self conscious. They also change up the workouts and timing so you don’t plateau. Best teachers are Chelsea, Courtney and Tyler!! Best music and they always get me to push myself to new levels whether I want to or not!!! Highly recommend to athletes who just want to get their blood flowing,
Thanks renegade!

I’ve been going to Renegade for about a year now and am really enjoying it. I usually bounce around between different workouts (running, gym stuff, bodyweight exercises) until I get bored or end up tweaking something. But since I started coming here, I haven’t felt the need to switch it up. The classes are always different, hit all kinds of muscle groups, and keep things interesting. The instructors are super approachable and always down to help or explain things if you need it.

Ok so I’ve been a member here for well over 2 years; first came consistently in class pass and then joined. Got ripped for my wedding. Also drawn to having 5am class I can get to before working a 12 hour 7-7 hospital shift. Continued picking heavier and heavier weights as time has progressed and coaches encouraged. My rating is based on CURRENT changes happening without any warning or communication from Renegade to members or most/ any of their coaching staff other than a manager. As a middle aged (43) yr old woman who does snowboarding, climbing, running and who spent decades in CrossFit gyms and lifting prior to this membership, as well as being an athlete in HS and College, I am NOT here to do “bootcamp” or be like every other gym that uses words like “toned” and attracts the cardio bunny crowd. I came here and stayed because of the functional strength training programming and variety and the massive amounts of dumbbells, kettlebells and other strength focused excercises including TRX etc. Coaches Courtney, Gabrielle, Nick, Jordan, Tyler have all been fantastic. When Matt & his wife were still here also FANTASTIC and when Matt got to program weekends 12/10. I walked in today after snowboarding in Europe for the last 2 weeks and was SHOCKED. Cardio station is just the treadmills & zero weight options?! Yuck. I do not need to pay a gym to do a bunch of body weight movements or more cardio. I want to be strong and able to stay fit as I age, and I can do cardio outside rather than a dark (dusty) gym. Honestly, it’s not the changes as much as the entire lack of communication with staff and members regarding making said changes. I don’t want less weights, less strength focused exercise and certainly have issue with a company too worried about $$ to take the time to find out what their staff and members truly believe in and want in coaching. I have had so many friends and even my husband join this gym and now we all want to leave. Before overhauling a great thing, maybe do some communicating with your members and staff. This is entirely disappointing. Also… yes, the gyms are dirty and gross and need to be actually cleaned with the lights on occasionally not just wiped down by members. Machines will be o it of service for weeks with no repair. The AC was broken for weeks on end and continued to get pushback when we asked about it. The cancelation policy is TERRIBLE. I will be emailing as well and hope that you care enough to address these concerns before a lot of people go elsewhere. Coaches & music is always a vibe…. Ownership…. 1/10. Do better *added photos from their website of what they WERE but are quickly changing from …..

Where to start... The good: Great work out program. They incorporate a large variety of exercises. Always get a great workout! Can't beat the price! Very thankful it's super affordable!
The bad: They attract the worst clientele! Everyone who workout there seems to hate their life! It just makes for a weird and kind of depressing environment. Don't go expected to make friends even though you workout with the same people for a year!
The ugly: There's a huge disparity between the good and bad trainers. Some are amazing others are pretty bad.
Lastly, they NEVER clean ANY the locations the place is pretty gross... So bring a towel!

We dropped into Renegade for the 8am class while in town for a wedding, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience. Despite there being people around, no one greeted us or offered any guidance. We had no idea who the coach was, where to put our belongings, or whether stations were assigned or self-selected. It was completely unwelcoming.

They make a big deal about not being CrossFit or bootcamp, but maybe that’s because they lack any sense of community. This place felt impersonal, like a virtual gym. The workout itself was similar to an F45, but without the structure, helpfulness, or welcoming environment that F45 offers. If you value community and support, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

Ridiculous, beyond challenging. 5 stars because the people who can complete these workouts should be enlisted in the military, special forces specifically. Extra star for the people who use dumbbells with the Bulgarian split squats. 0/5 stars for rest periods or catering workouts to people with average conditioning. Bunch of positive, uplifting freaks

Renegade, I love you! I’ve been a loyal member for a few years now- but please fix the AC! You’re gonna have some people faint from heat exhaustion. We pay too much for this not to be fixed after months! Some of my friends have quit because of the AC situation.

COACHING: 5 stars for most coaches, their energy, and music. 6 stars for Courtney, Safi, Matt, and Amar!

PROGRAMMING: 4 stars; I did weight training for a number of years so I feel I am pretty strong, but Tuesdays and Thursdays are focused on shoulders and biceps and the bicep work is excessive for most women.

EQUIPMENT: 2 stars. Machines can take weeks to be repaired. Currently, the screen on multiple machines turns on but it doesn't actually track calories or distance. I reset the workout on the screen before I start and some machines will say I am running at a sub 4-minute mile pace. I might be fast but I'm not that fast.

SENSE OF COMMUNITY: 1 Star. Simply put, there is no sense of community unless you count putting your first in the air and saying "work!" together after class. I've never been to another fitness studio where there are a dozen people waiting for a class in the lobby and nobody talks or interacts. There are different ways to get folks to talk to one another but that starts with the ownership and how they cultivate that.

Be aware of their business model that makes them a ton of money: $99/month is great, but it's $15 for each "late cancellation." Late cancellation is cancelling your class less than 8 hours BEFORE it starts. So if something comes up with work, kids, etc. and you cancel 7 1/2 hours BEFORE your class starts, you are automatically charged $15. This rule is absurd and insensitive to the fact that life happens and people have extenuating circumstances.

Renegade invests in a sales team to get you signed up. I was contacted several times within two weeks of visiting. Meanwhile, since I have joined and reached out to them, I get a delayed response or no response at all.

Overall, Renegade ownership seems to care most about your money & their reviews. I'd stay for the coaches and workouts most days but I can't support a business that demonstrates (through their "late" cancellation policy and lack of responsiveness) it doesn't care whatsoever about it's members.

Renegade Fit is a fantastic fitness model. 50 minute classes with different focused days with such a variety of moves and exercises to really keep your body guessing what’s next. It’s fast paced and to the point which I enjoy as someone with a busy schedule.
Each instructor has their own style but all have been fantastic on both cueing, timing and explanation of moves and targeting of movement. I also need good jams and every instructor has had just that (shout out to Court at NP, best playlists of em all!).
I work in fitness myself so can tell the difference between instructors who know their stuff versus not; renegade is one I will keep supporting they’re fantastic. Give it a shot, get uncomfortable! 🤘🏻

I’ve been to about 40 Renegade classes with several different coaches, here’s my takeaway: overall, it’s the *best* group workout class I’ve been to! It’s beginner friendly—yet can be a challenge as well, all up to you! Most coaches are really good at introducing themselves + the stations to new people prior to the class starting. (I wouldn’t recommend Conor for a first timer as he was the least in depth re: movement explanation / correction.) Couple coach shoutouts: Courtney is HYPE and has phenomenal DJ/timing skills during the class, as well as super inviting energy. Jillian is also very welcoming and makes every individual feel seen before/after class. If you’re worried about form/being new to strength training, Constantin is *incredibly* thoughtful with form correction + gives the most detailed explanations regarding the movements prior to beginning the class. Matthew is the most challenging coach I’ve had, but in such a supportive and playful (*chef’s kiss*) way. All in all, always a good push + a great time. 10/10 recommend. :)
