I’ve been participating in Rock Steady Boxing for over three years now, and it’s truly been a life-changer. As a gerontologist and the owner of Bonnie’s Assisted Living Solutions, I’ve seen firsthand how empowering this program is for seniors with Parkinson’s. It not only builds physical strength and coordination but also provides a real sense of community and confidence. It perfectly complements what I do every day: helping older adults find the right resources to thrive. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I stumbled across Rock Steady Boxing while reading a great book “Parkinson's: How to Reduce Symptoms Through Exercise”. Boxing? There was a whole chapter on it. How bizarre. I tried a class. And it worked. It works.

In Ventura and LA Lisa Oliver and Yvette Israel run a tight ship with virtually no room for Parkinson’s to hang out. Drag your feet and someone reminds you to “heel toe”; walk around with a frozen expression and one of these amazing ladies will call you on it. It’s tough love but just what you need. Your brain is so busy trying to catch up with your gloves as you hit the bags that it starts rewiring, reconnecting  and promoting neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to adapt and reorganize itself. I actually get high doing it.

Rock Steady Boxing labels itself as the only exercise program scientifically proven to decrease symptoms, delay progression and reverse some symptoms of Parkinson's Disease. I would actually describe it as a profound ACT OF LOVE AND GENEROSITY by two amazing women.

Rock Steady Boxing has changed my life. In May 2024 when I started, I could not stand for longer than 5 minutes, so I started boxing sitting in a chair. In about a month, I didn’t have to sit and my strength and balance had markedly improved. Over the past year, I’ve continued to improve and my ability to work the boxing combinations has multiplied. But it’s the support and community and the wonderful coaches that keeps me coming back. Don’t live in the local area or can’t travel? Take their Zoom classes. You will love it!

As a Clinical Psychologist, I can say that Rock Steady Boxing VC/LA provide a phenomenal environment that is so much more than an exercise program. The amazing coaches work with people with Parkinson's Disease to improve their posture, strength, and balance to reduce falls. In addition to the physical benefits, participants shared that the Rock Steady Boxing classes at VC/LA reduced their feelings of isolation and depression. The coaches foster a welcoming community where new members develop lasting friendships and support. I highly recommend Rock Steady Boxing VC/LA for my clients with Parkinson's Disease!

Rock Steady Boxing VC/LA has been an amazing activity for my mother. She has Parkinson's and last was diagnosed with cancer. Following her treatments she was very week, and the Parkinson's was making any movement difficult. This class has made a huge difference in so many ways. Her strength, balance, and even focus in other areas has increased significantly and continues improve further. Rock Steady Boxing has been the reason for her improvements. I can't say enough positive things about how great the results are. Classes support all levels, and although she is among one of the lower active attendees, she is able to participate in the entire class and receives a great amount of attention to support her participation. Her endurance, along with strength is amazing! Thank you Lisa, Yvette and Team!

Everyone in the Parkinson’s community agrees that a complete exercise program is necessary to help fight the progression of Parkinson’s disease and improve the negative effects of the disease. But where do you start Parkinson’s Disease fitness? The number one recommendation that you hear repeatedly (i.e., Neurologists and support groups) is a boxing class.
Joining Rock Steady Boxing – VC\LA is an easy first step to take and can lead to a lifetime of learning about exercise, movement, strength training and boxing!
Rock Steady Boxing is a great way to deal with the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. It is a complete physical training program with attention to proper exercise, balance, form, eye hand coordination, strength, and voice skills. Learning boxing and boxing strategies is icing on the cake and one heck of a workout for the mind and body. It is non-contact and completely safe and fun.
Lisa and Evette, the owners of Rock Steady Boxing – VC\LA, are fun and caring. They take their role seriously in terms of educating students and creating a positive learning environment. It is obvious that they and the staff receive specialized training to assist those with symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. By the way, the staff is superb and very fun and caring as well.
We meet three times a week. The gyms are carefully selected as a safe place for Parkinson’s Disease students to get together. Everyone is friendly and very supportive with each other. You quickly become one of the group with a shared interest in fighting Parkinson’s Disease.
Now we “fight” Parkinson’s disease everyday with our new boxing skills.
I highly recommend the program.

My husband David has been participating in Zoom classes of Rock Steady Boxing VC/LA 3x per week for three months. This is the third Rock Steady Boxing outfit that he has tried, and in our opinion it is the best organized and most thorough program he’s experienced. The owners/instructors Lisa and Yvette are personable and enthusiastic, and clearly well informed about the components of a program specifically tailored for people living with Parkinson’s.

Any doctor you speak to will tell you that exercise is the only sure thing to slow the progression of PD, so motivation is key. Lisa and Yvette have motivated David to commit to exercise and set fitness goals for himself; he’s even extended his exercise regimen to an additional 3 days per week! Committing to a class for 3 days a week makes it a priority, and keeps him focused for a full hour. Having coaches who provide feedback during class keeps him trying to do his best and keeps him from slacking off and cutting out before the class is over.

Finally, being an east coast “snowbird,” Zoom classes are the most logical solution to living in two locations; we can take his exercise instruction with us. In addition, he doesn’t need to be bothered driving to a gym, since his class is as close as the computer screen.

Rock Steady Boxing VC/LA on Zoom is a winner. We highly recommend it.

When I was diagnosed with PD I immediately joined Rock Steady Boxing VC/LA. I did so because I had been told that their program of boxing, weight lifting, balance exercises and stretching was tailor-made to slow down the progression of the disease. I have since learned In fact that nothing else has been found to do so.

The knowledgeable coaching staff has made the exercise's varied and challenging, a fact that I deem responsible for my VERY SLOW PROGRESSION.

As an aside, I am in much better physical and mental health as a result of having joined RSB. I have been in the program for a little over 3 1/2 years,

By the way, my wife is also in the program to support me and to stay in great physical shape.

I have been in the program fo a little over 3 years. Due to
