Best climbing gym in the country. Hands down.
I hold Pipeworks as the standard for what a climbing gym should have.
Excellent staff. Clean changing rooms. A sauna. Two strength and conditioning areas. Spray board.
And obviously the climbing is excellent.
High quality route setting at every difficulty level. Reset regularly.
If Pipeworks doesnβt have it, you donβt need it.

Iβm shopping for gyms and this place wanted a 30 dollar fee to attend one trial CrossFit/Functional Fitness class.
Every other gym in the area offering this class does 1-3 weeks free.
Thatβs a hard no from me. Iβll try Communitas next.

I hadnβt been to PipeWorks since pre-COVID β and WOW, this place has grown!
I bought a day pass to try a yoga class on a rainy night, and it turned out to be exactly what I needed. The warehouse was alive with energy, yet the yoga studio itself felt warm and intimate β a cozy, industrial loft vibe. The glow of the streetlights outside added to the ambiance, and the gentle music tied it all together perfectly.
Melissa was an exceptional teacher. She offered thoughtful adjustments that helped me ease deeper into poses I didnβt think I could reach. It was my first experience with Yin Yoga, and the slow, restorative pace was deeply soothing β the kind of class that leaves you floating afterward. I heard she teaches every Monday night, and I can absolutely see why people come back for her.
If youβre visiting Sacramento or just looking for a community-driven space to move, stretch, and reset, PipeWorks is a must. I didnβt even get to explore everything they offer this time, but Iβll definitely be back.

We were only in the area for a day trip but thought we would give bouldering a try! We were openly greeted from the start and had an absolute blast traversing the areas! Thanks to everyone there who make this a most excellent adventure!

Been coming here for the last two years. Excellent gym and the staff is super friendly :)
The only challenge can be dealing with the open air drug scene that shares the road with the gym.

The complete rock climbing gym! Excellent route setting, friendly staff, as well as all of the training equipment you could want. As far as I am concerned this is the only place you should climb indoors! Full crossfit gym, weights yoga, everything you could want.

I have been climbing at Pipeworks for a year and a half. It has been a really fun experience and everyone is so nice!
Today I took a lesson with Riley and it was worth every penny. Really helpful for climbers like me who struggle with finishing projects and dealing with scary falls!

Great facility with lots of bouldering space and challenging routes. The big downside is the location. There are often encampments right along the fence and nearby streets, and it felt uncomfortable enough that I canceled my membership.

I love Pipeworks. Got a membership back in January after getting invited to First Friday and absolutely loving it then. Iβm still loving it now and taking full advantage by signing up for a wide variety of weekly classes (for free), bouldering regularly, and using the amazing sauna. Itβs always very clean, and the staff is kind and welcoming.

I absolutely love this gym. The staff are so friendly and love that they offer a variety of fitness classes. Aside from bouldering, yoga is my favorite. However, evening parking on Thursdays in particular can be challenging. I've driven around the parking lot in circles for 20-30 minutes trying to find a parking spot. I do wish the weekend hours started earlier in the morning.

In town for a few days and Pipeworks was super simple for a drop in. Huge gym with ample bouldering, top ropes, and additional fitness equipment. Bummer that they close so early on the weekends, and that they lack autobelays, but still a great climbing gym.

I think the route setting here is great. A lot of newer gyms set very modern style, compy, big moves, very power heavy etc. (Boulder project, boulderfield etc.) The route setting at pipeworks still odes to the older style of climbing, with a healthy variety of more modern style setting. I travel a lot for work, & like to visit local gyms, but I always found the setting at other gyms to be very compy, big slopey holds, and very much the same following the theme of modern comp bouldering. I think the route setters do a great job setting, and rotating the routes out. Thank you for everything that yβall do.

Had the worst experience here thanks to the rude staff member. Didnβt get his name, but he is very slim, long hair, and with no facial hair. Mentioning because there is another very nice staff member that is also slim with long hair but with facial hair. The rude guy was very confrontational towards me and multiple people who were very nice and just wanted to have a good time.
He was vacuuming and gave me a nasty look for some reason and when I wanted to ask him if there was something I did wrong he just looked at me angrily and said βget away from me!β. I thought he was joking so I smiled, looked behind me (nobody behind me), and approached him nicely to ask βhey, did Iβ¦β and he yelled again βjust leave me alone!β And also did it to someone else.
Multiple people saw it and it was such a weird experience. Wish I recorded it to show the manager. Heβs definitely got anger issues.

I was disappointed with this place. I only bouldered but there really wasnβt much and most of the space here seems to be for CrossFit. The training area was really lacking and basic things like the fingerboards being too low to the floor just made my training session difficult. There was also a strong smell of urine when I walked in. Not sure if they were having problems with the plumbing but it didnβt give me confidence that this place was very clean.

Pretty good climbing gym, really big with tons of stuff like bouldering and top rope, plenty of workout areas, yoga rooms and classes, a sauna and showers, and a slackline. There was even a small coffee stand inside too but only on Friday and Saturday morning.
Downsides, it's kinda pricey at about $100 a month for a membership. Also.. and this is sort of weird haha but the couple of times I was there, there was a climber who was INCREDIBLY loud. Yeah power screams and all that, but this was like every move was a crux and more of a power moan.
Would have given 4.5 stars for price and the distractingly loud screams having apparently gone unremarked on by all but eh, 5 it is (just bring good headphones).

This gym has beautiful climbing areas and the yoga room is sunny and lovely. However, the 2 staff working behind the front desk on the day that I visited were very unfriendly (almost confrontationally so) and seemed offended by basic gym facility questions. I noticed this behavior directed toward me as well as the man checking in after me. I have been to a handful of Touchstone gyms across Northern and Southern California and have consistently been helped by the nicest staff members, so this really struck me! I hope that the Touchstone in Sac trains its staff to be kinder and more welcoming, or recruit better staff.
FYI for visitors: no chalk rentals. The shower/locker rooms are also very spartan.

Nice place. Really good, instructor was great for the 1 hour belay course so we could top rope. The routes are good, there's a lot of area for top rope, lead and also a separate bouldering area that's very robust. They have normal gym things, like weights and machines as well as a sauna. Generally a very good place. 4 stars because I've gone to better gyms, but this one is very top tier.
As an aside, there was a crabby woman who checked us in who was a bit rude but who knows maybe she was just having a bad day. Didn't dampen my mood or our session at all.

I love this gym, but it needs updated security. I was attacked by a homeless man on my way out, he came right up to my car and tried to open my door when I had the window open and was brandishing a knife! Luckily I rolled up my window and locked my car in time but was a very close call... They really need a guard or someone to watch people exiting the facility. I know most of the homeless on the block are probably nice people and probably don't condone this type of violence, but I don't feel safe coming here anymore.

We stopped in here on a road trip. Coming off of I-5 all the way to the gym were miles of houseless camps and a soup kitchen in the parking lot which is a little disconcerting if you're not used to that. The large converted industrial building is impressive inside and packed with exercise equipment and climbing walls. The beams up high are covered with about a half an inch or more of dust which hopefully is not left over from industrial days and possibly toxic. The top ropes are thick old school and barely feed through auto locking gri gri like devices. The routes were interesting and often required changing feet on the same hold

Pretty decent route setting where nothing is typically terribly set, although consistency varies quite a bit. The walls are good, and folks are friendly! Strike up a conversation with anyone, they'll be super nice!
Ratings are a bit soft compared to some other gyms and the bouldering area floors need to be replaced, as some seriously have a urine smell at this point.
Class instructors for various fitness classes are pretty good, although your experience may vary. Functional fitness and HIIT have pretty decent instructors.
Overall, it's a pretty good climbing gym, although needs some maintenance at this point. You should probably hit the instructor-led courses to take full advantage of the membership fees.
Ask about the state employee discount.

I've been to many of the touchstone gyms throughout and this is def one of the faves! It's huuge and has much to offer for ropes and bouldering. It also has an area covered by gymnastics type mat with a slackline running across. Great for acroyoga/practicing handstands, and exploring other movement-hobbies that often go hand in hand w climbing. It also has a nice lounging area which some gyms I've been to lack. Not to mention, the brewery is right next door!

If Pipeworks had a pool, it would literally be the perfect gym. Aside from that small blemish on their record... If you've been here you get it. If you haven't, well you're missing out. Yoga, CrossFit style classes, dry sauna, spin, acro, BJJ, kids teams... Oh yeah and the best indoor climbing Sacramento has to offer. Plus they brew their own brew on site, have food vendors and an epic patio to hang out with friends after a work out. Did I mention lead climbing, huge bouldering area, campus board, systems wall, 17 hangboards, group lessons/corporate team building and all-around great folks running the desk... Pipeworks has been good to me for over 8 years now, figured I should probably leave em a review. Way to go, Pipe... 5 stars

A bit of context first - Iβm only two months in to climbing and this is the second climbing gym Iβve ever been to. So far, I love this gym. Itβs a beautiful building inside and out. The staff is kind and helpful. And last but not least, they have everything you need at what I consider a ridiculous price. At one end they have a CrossFit gym section that outshines most actual CrossFit gyms Iβve been to. In the middle of everything is a big bouldering area with a lot of beginner to intermediate climbs. I mostly stick to V3s and V4s at this point but they seem to have plenty of easier and harder climbs. Near the entrance is where youβll find the top rope climbs. I havenβt tried these yet but they look fun. Next to the top rope section is the weightlifting and cardio area. Itβs a bit limited, but even at the busiest time of day you can get the weights and machines you want with little to no waiting. Sacramento is lucky to have Pipeworks and Iβm grateful that I get to learn to climb here.

Well the girl at the front desk had an attitude and acted like it was a real inconvenience that my six year old son and I were there. Her tone was very condescending the entire time as we were trying to figure out exactly how things worked.
The other girl there was very sweet and polite.
Not much for a six year old to do. I was under the impression that I could belay for him so he could enjoy himself and climb. Apparently you have to take an hour class to belay someone. I asked if someone could show me real fast but that was not an option. I have a background in ropes and have all the qualifications to be on a California Task Force Team that gets deployed all over the world to perform rope rescues, but since I havenβt had someone there tell me how to do it for $40 my son could basically do nothing. Wasted $50.

Dogs no longer allowed. Planned my day around climbing here since I'm in the area for the week and it's the closest touchstone gym, but I needed to be able to bring my dog to make it work. Showed up thinking I'd be able to tie him up while I work out (did it in the past) but that is no longer allowed here. Management, please be aware that a no-dogs-at-all policy may satisfy those few folks who do not like dogs, but it basically means your gym is no longer an option for folks who need to keep their dogs with them on these hot days.

love the experience here. tons of bouldering as well as rope climbing. yoga classes are superb and is included in the membership! cross fit available for extra cost. they also allow well mannered, non-barky, potty trained dogs as long as owners are monitoring the dogs and responsible. the workers and manager there are extraordinary!

The staff is really friendly, the facility is clean, and the patrons are friendly. The staff changes up the routes frequently enough that I don't get bored.

Our family has been coming to PipeWorks since 01/17. We initially got passes because two of the kids that we adopted had add/ptsd, and with the guidance of their therapist we decided that bouldering/climbing would train their sensibilities to focus and remain calm in challenging situations. Needless to say we have been completely taken back by the progress of our kids, as well as how kid-friendly this gym is. Vaugh Medford and his staff, along with the members of the gym have been nice, warm, patient, and kind to us and our kiddos. We can't say enough nice things about this place.

Great team working there. The gym is absolutely stunning. Big lead section, awesome bouldering, workout areas and more. It's got everything you want in a climbing gym. And a sauna. Can't forget about the sauna.

The best indoor Climbing gym in the touchstone chain of gyms and probably the best indoor Climbing gym in California. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. This gym is not just for climbers, but anyone wanting to get fit. There is a full weight and cardio area with many machines and free weights. This place offers classes and allows you to diversify your work out, providing a change from the normal routine. If you haven't been, check it out. Great for day passed, punch cards, month to month, or year memberships.
