Only Reviewing About the Birthday Party Experience:

I’m extremely disappointed with our experience at San Diego Gymnastics in Mission Valley. My son had his party there on June 1st, We purchased the “Perfect 10 Private Party Package” AND the “Adventure Awaits – The Ultimate Party Add-On” package. We paid the extra $270 so we wouldn’t have to “worry” about anything. The advertisement said, “All you need to do is bring the excited kiddos – we’ll handle the rest!” But that is not what happened at all.

Three days prior to the party, we visited the facility and spoke with Ali. She walked us through everything. I gave her the final guest count (10+bday boy) and we talked about pizza (4 boxes) and juice, decorations (ninja theme), and activities (parkour). We saw where the party would take place, where the gym was, and she even showed us the parkour area—this was a huge part of why we booked here. We were told no one was booked before or after us and that everything would be taken care of.
We arrived exactly 15 minutes before the party start time to get our stuff set up, no one appeared to be inside. A few minutes later, the coach opened the door and immediately started apologizing profusely. I was in complete shock. Nothing was set up. No tables, no decorations, and the spectator chairs were just sitting in the middle of the party area where I had been told our setup would be. The facility was hot, smelled bad, and there was no air circulation (AC didn’t get turned on until halfway through the party) and we had to find a fan and plug it in ourselves just to make it bearable. She said she didn’t know what to do, and just kept apologizing and explaining that she was the only one there and couldn’t do everything by herself, but in reality at that point nothing was actually even done. I just said, let’s just get started.
I went with her to their storage room and got the tables. My family and I set everything up by ourselves. The coach kept leaving to make phone calls while I was scrambling to get everything done, and by this time guests had already started arriving. It was embarrassing, stressful, and overwhelming. We paid extra so everything would be ready to go when we arrived, and it was the complete opposite.

A second coach eventually showed up, but there was still no one directing guests to the waiver station (they don’t use electronic waivers). I told the second coach guests needed to sign waivers still, and she just pointed to the counter. I had to ask her, if she could go and explain that to them. I was in the middle of setting up things the facility was supposed to have done, and instead of helping, I am having to set up, delegate the staff, and direct my guest.
At 11:00, the coaches started the gym activities, which I didn’t mind because we had limited time. 20 minutes later, the pizza showed up (2 boxes), and by the time the kids were done playing, it wasn’t hot anymore. Slices were being handed out, and there wasn’t enough for each kid. I had to cut the remaining ones smaller so everyone could eat.

Juice boxes were supposed to be included. They were never brought out. The ninja-themed items didn’t come out until guests had already arrived, so most kids didn’t even get them, see the or use them. We used the plates and napkins, but again, nothing was ready beforehand, like promised.

As time went by, I realized the kids still hadn’t gone to the parkour room. I asked the coach about it, and she told me they don’t take the kids back there. I was shocked—this was never mentioned to me during the tour or on any of the phone calls. Thankfully, after I brought it up, the coach did take the kids back there, and they had a great time. That was one of the few positives.

The biggest issue of all is that we paid for this premium add-on to avoid stress and to have everything ready and done for us. That did not happen.

6/12 Update: The manager reached out, was very kind and apologetic, and offered a refund or credit. I appreciated the follow-through and chose the refund.

SD Gymnastics is the best there is! We’ve been bringing our two daughters since they were 18 months old and they look forward to their class every week. We’ve had such a fantastic experience at SD gymnastics! The coaches are incredibly patient and skilled, and they do a great job of balancing fun with teaching proper technique. My child has grown so much in confidence, strength, and coordination since joining. The facility is clean, safe, and well-equipped with everything needed for kids of all ages to develop their skills. We have four kids, ages 3-11, in both gymnastics and Parkour lessons here, it's been amazing to watch the progress of each of them. The coaches are friendly, helpful and encouraging of all the students. There are also plenty of party nights and open gym times for kids to come free play or get focused coaching in for their favorite moves. We've brought the kids friends along a few times to join in pizza parties and trying out lessons and it's always been a hit. Can't think of anything else id want from them, whatever you and your kids are after, they'll have options for you.

It’s so much fun! My son just turned 3 years old and he loves his 50 minutes class.

Very unfriendly class policy! Can’t make up session if your child is sick! So instead of allowing us to reschedule, our sick kid has to participate - possibly making him sicker and/or getting the other students sick - or we have to take a $35 hit!!
