San Diego Peninsula Shotokan Karate is member dojo of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA). SKA was founded by Tsutomu Ohshima, one of the last remaining students of Master Gichin Funakoshi, the father of modern karate. We are proud of our direct lineage from the founding of karate, as well as SKA’s unique status as the organizer of the oldest, continuously-run karate tournament in America.
Because of SKA’s dedication to offer high-quality martial arts to the public, we have remained non-commercial and non-profit. We practice in Liberty Station in Point Loma and in Pioneer Park in Mission Hills. If you are looking for an authentic, challenging martial art, with deep cultural roots and passionate, dedicated practitioners, come train with us!

Experienced and dedicated instructors teach traditional Shotokan karate at this dojo of Shotokan Karate of America. Dojo members have different backgrounds and skill levels, but all share an honest attitude, strong mentality, and a desire to learn and understand their martial art.
I was looking for a new karate dojo in 2009 after moving to the U.S. and having taken a break from practice for several years. At this dojo I immediately found a new home, new friends, new motivation, and a journey that is continuing to this day.
If you're thinking about trying karate or trying a new dojo, I highly recommend visiting San Diego Peninsula Shotokan Karate Dojo. You will not be disappointed.

I went to a practice this morning led by the leader and attended by members of the San Diego Peninsula Dojo. Participants came from across 11 SKA dojos in Southern California. This practice focused on jiyu kumite (free sparring), and Erik brought his many years of expertise and experience to lead a strong, spirited practice for all levels, helping all of us to hone our skills and mentality. Can't wait for the next opportunity!

Worthy of its stellar 5 star reputation, Shotokan Karate of America stands proudly thanks to its focus on tradition. Following the orthodoxy of their founder Tsutomu Ohshima Sensei, a direct disciple of Master Gichin Funakoshi, and now under Shihan John Teramoto, Shotokan Karate of America prioritizes the true essential teachings of karate-do as taught by Master Funakoshi; not introducing innovations but preserving his tradition. Continuing that historic legacy are some of their current incredible instructors: Erik, Gary, and Brian at the San Diego Peninsula Dojo.
Shotokan Karate of America - San Diego Peninsula Dojo prioritizes the values at the heart of martial arts like discipline, tradition, strategy, and the internal spirit. It is a true art form. This place is worth your time, your money, and your dedication.

Great place to train and awesome people. I recently started training karate again after a long break and everyone here at Peninsula SKA has been very welcoming. Great training and would welcome anybody to try a class out if you have an interest in Shotokan.

This is the best dojo I've been to. A place to practice the most traditional form of karate, mind and body. Sensei Erik knows what is important to achieve individual goals. Great team of karatekas in San Diego.
