It's been very clean lately. Hope that continues with good staff & supervision.
Hope like to see up dated bike parking & security. Bikes are super expensive now & components can clip right off.

First time here, and a National Member from Ft Worth, Texas. Loved this place! Clean, friendly staff, lots of light, high ceilings, plenty of room and a huge variety of nice and new equipment. Loved the gym and the pool. Thanks SB Y!

The most modern YMCA I’ve been too but the kids at the reception were pretty unfriendly. They did help us but they looked like they were judging us pretty badly. Seemed like they were mostly caught up in conversation and didn’t want to help us.

Yeah basically they're cancellation policy is you have to pay for an extra month if you decide to cancel your membership which is kind of ridiculous but apparently that's their policy so I'm paying for an extra month and I'm not going to use Plus their facility they close their hot tub you can never really find parking mostly I use the one in montecito it was okay but some of their employees are kind of rude honestly. Go to the park it's a better deal.

Very bad. Fitness is like a wrapper. Very pretty but useless. Always a lot of people! No decent equipment, just a bunch of useless junk. And, following the California tradition, it all costs $60. Plus, it operates as if it's a facility for disabled people until 8 PM.

We are big fans of the YMCA. Best deal in town. Also we take our twins to swim lessons here and I have to say that Madison and her group have a very good program. They are able to deal with a group of kids really well and keep them focused and learning, which is quite a feat in a pool with little kids! Our girls have learned more than they have in individual lessons at the YMCA with their great teachers. Thanks YMCA and the Aquatics Team :)

Great Y. I visit often from glendale, ca. Facilities are nice and it's never too crowded. Pool is in great shape. Sometimes a little cold but a couple of laps in make it just fine.

Have been a member for almost 20 years. It's a great place not only for the many classes and specialized areas for different workouts but also for a welcoming front desk staff and a genuine camaraderie among members.

I go to YMCA everyday, I got tell you it has the best staff, facility and the cliental is the best just like you and I. When you go to a regular gym the money just goes in to a guys pocket but here it goes to back the community which helps build the community, you aren't just building your body you are building a community. The other day a women got injury and the staff saved her life because of the great staff training, they get trained on a regular basis. Joining the Y was the smartest thing I have ever done, why not join the Y!!!

I love going to the Y because they have so many great exercise classes that easily fit into my schedule. It's the motivation I need to stay healthy. All of the instructors are so great, and everyone in the classes are so genuine, nice, and supportive. The YMCA is a very safe and non-judgmental place to work out. I would definitely recommend! I already convinced my housemate to become a member!

Dissatisfied with enrollment for camp at this place. Even tho I didn't complete my application and was told my application was incomplete by their staff THEY STILL TRIED TO COLLECT 225.00 TWICE! EVEN AFTER I WAS TOLD IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN...IT DID. Wouldn't recommend filling out any information on their website if they can't get it together.

My toddler takes swim lessons at the Y. It was nearly impossible to find lessons during 2020/2021, and I'm so thankful the Y had a great schedule and opportunities for swim lessons in 2022! We've been doing lessons for about six months and had (I believe) five instructors. Some are definitely better than others at keeping the kids engaged, but they've all been good (Ivanka, Carlos, and Cameron I'd call great). The program director (Madison) is responsive to questions and helped me make sure I signed my son up for the right amount of each class to make sure he was ready for the next challenges. I think the classes are the right size and duration for preschoolers attention spans. It's been great watching my son learn a new skill and increase his confidence.

My daughter goes to Preschool at the YMCA and I feel like I won the lottery. She comes home signing new songs everyday, she learns valuable lessons while engaging with kids her own age, they support her potty training and just love her so much. She runs into school everyday! To know she is well cared for and loved while also learning and playing indoors and outdoors everyday is a true gift - oh, and it's affordable to boot!

I travel frequently from Washington state to Arizona along the coastline and visit many Y facilities. I love the sense of community at my home Y and find the same atmosphere here on my brief stay. You have a truly outstanding facility and your staff are awesome! Many thanks to your good work, kindness, and being an excellent example of YMCA values.

We love the Y for so many reasons from awesome classes- their spin classes are fantastic along with their boot camp, circuit classes, and body pump. My kids love going to kids gym and have benefited from swim lessons, basketball, the holiday carnivals, and summer camps. More than activities I love that the Y is multi- generational and have connected with new friends of all ranges. They offer a stellar live strong program for cancer survivors and their families and sweet events like Daddy Daughter dances. I also love the ways they give back in scholarships to open opportunities for kids in need. Thanks SB YMCA for offering so many great things to our community.

My overall experience at this branch was offensive and disappointing. I do not want to return to this branch because the memories of poor management, on several levels, left bad taste:
-- young director was rather inappropriate and much too immature,
-- female cleaning staff did not meet expected standards on the ladies side
-- employee continued to be impertinent and allowed to do so

My 6 year old son was a part of the Summer 2019 Sports Camp. He loved his counselors and was sad to have the summer end. This program was amazing. He had a great time and I am very thankful for the time that he spent in their care.

A year ago I stepped into a gym and started focusing on my physical health for the first time. For someone who had no knowledge about working out, eating healthy, or how to use the equipment, I'm so glad that I started at the Y. I couldn't have asked for better trainers and staff to support me and my goals. My trainer Mike has done an incredible job at encouraging me to keep pushing my limits, and go for one more rep! Now my summer body is my all-year body ;) I've managed to break a lot of bad lifestyle habits by choosing to hit the gym and mix up my routines with all the group exercise classes they offer.

Thanks SB Y for helping me get my health back on track, and the confidence to keep striving!

I love this YMCA! It is better than any health club I've experienced. There are lots of machines of all types, an abundance of classes, basketball games, a pool, great locker rooms with showers and the ability to dry your hair and put on makeup, something for everyone. I see a lot of parents arriving with their kids, so they must accommodate them. And, last but not least, if you are so inclined, everyone is very friendly.

Great place for families. Kids Korner is a godsend for those with younger children and no other gym gives you 2 hours of care for the price. Equipment selection aimed towards the casual exerciser with many machines, only one rack, one bench and no deadlift area. The staff is generally pretty young and it's often difficult to get schedules and information, if you can get someone on the phone at all. If it wasn't for the kids, would probably use a more dedicated gym for the same price or less.

Overall I like the experience here. The gym is filled with people of all ages and types, and there are a lot of folks that say hi in the hallways. I use the bicycles and pool mostly. There are enough machines that I've always been able to find a bike, but the pool is often very crowded. It seems like they might benefit from an additional pool. I also love that they have a steam room and sauna! I would say for me it's been worth the cost.

Worst member service ever. They had me join on a $29 a month plan, which turned out only to be the FIRST month, though the inexperienced co-ed who sold me the plan never explained that it was actually $65 a month. I didn't learn this information until I received the invoice three months later for close to $300 including the sign-up fee. Everyone at this YMCA gave me the runaround and I have to say this is one of the most poorly run YMCA's I have ever experienced. They are much more concerned with their bank balance then their members, and the attitude is pervasive throughout this particular branch,, which I later learned is running a budget deficit

UNSAFE FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN:Swim lessons and kids corner.

I love many things about the YMCA. Overall it is a really fabulous organization.... but the Santa Barbara location has proven to be an unsafe location for younger children on more than one occasion and in more than one department.

The Kids Corner seems nice and clean but there are too many children and the staff is too young and inexperienced. The YMCA Kids Corner accepts children as young as 3 months old. So when there are a few babies in there, the toddlers have little supervision. I stayed to watch how the children were treated and interacted with on a few occasions and I would NEVER leave my 1 year old in there. I watched my child put something she could have choked on in her mouth and no one noticed because the two staff members monitoring outside children were on their cell phones while sitting at the picnic table. I even saw a staff member glued to her cell phone while trying to break up a fight between to children. There was broken glass on the ground that day also. And there were young children inside playing with no supervision at all. I feel like it is only a matter of time before there is a serious injury in there.

If they would charge a small fee, they could bring in someone experienced full time to manage all the 18-25 year old baby sitters they currently have who may not always use the best judgement when caring for your child (and 20 others!)

The other safety issue I feel should be addressed is in swim lessons. Today they had 3 classes booked at the same time with over 15 children who could not swim (ages 3-6) all crowded into the shadow end where they could touch. It is really REALLY chaotic and one child was accidentally pushed under by another child. She and her mother left in tears. Although there is a life guard on duty, he sits on the tower monitoring swim team and an adult class in the deep end as well as the 15+ kids who cannot swim. The problem is not the class size, it's that they are all happening at the same time. They are pressed for space. To many 3-6 year olds who can't swim shoulder to shoulder. It's not safe. I wish they would figure out a better way to schedule. Until then, we are finding a safer location for our 4 year old to learn to swim.

I have been a member for the last 2 years. I only play racquetball there so I will review that area only. We have about 16 people that show up every Monday and Wednesday night from 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm. We play doubles and partners are random so anyone can just walk in and play. Great group of men and the games are very competitive. Most players and A and B players. The courts are bad though. Poor lighting, floors are super slippery, dirty paint is falling off the walls. But it's the only place in town that everyone goes to play.
