I trained at Self Made Chino Hills for a few years with my awesome trainer Ricky Urrutia. He got me in the best shape of my life and taught me all about the different work outs to maximize muscle gain as well as nutrition. He is also an IFBB pro so he was able to coach me through my first fitness competition. I would highly recommend him if you’re looking to get in shape and need some guidance when it comes to fitness and how to eat. Overall, I had a good experience. The facility is also nice and clean too.

Shout out to SLFMD training facility which is the place to go if you want to achieve results! I have been training here for almost 3 years with Ricky who has pushed me to the point of exhaustion in order to prep me for competition physique! I was able to compete for the first time at age 50 in the Masters and am in prep for a show in June 2026 and then Masters in Nov 2026!! Love this place and Slick Rick gets it done!

So where do I begin? I started training with Ricky in March of 2023, weighing 353lbs. I was depressed, recently separated, but knew I couldn’t make a change on my own. I worked out at self made for two years, with my trainer Jess. (@jessceline_ray) I loved the atmosphere of hardworking, kind people at this gym and i miss it everytime I’m at a commercial gym for sure. The equipment was always clean, new, and respected. People felt comfortable smiling, meeting each other, recording/taking pictures, etc. Jess as a trainer really opened my mind up to understanding lifting and mind to muscle connection. She’s a girls girl, super approachable, uplifting, and easy to be real and honest with. She pushes you hard though, those work outs are no joke! Have I seen results?! YES! In the last 3–4 months through work trips and vacations, I’ve lost 17 lbs and people have noticed! I feel stronger, more confident, and honestly, just overall better.
I first met Ricky through a friend who was training with him to prepare for a bodybuilding competition. I’ll admit, I was very intimidated. My friend mentioned that Ricky had his pro card, and judging by my friend’s incredible physique, I was nervous I’d be judged or not taken seriously.
That couldn’t have been further from the truth. Ricky is one of the kindest, most down-to-earth, and nonjudgmental trainers I’ve ever met. He gets right down to business but makes you feel completely comfortable. We did a body fat scan, and he took the time to explain the results in detail. He created a personalized meal plan (with actual meal ideas a lifesaver for me since I’ve always struggled with macros!). Ricky also explained the workout program and how each exercise would help me reach my goals. He’s incredibly patient even when I forget how to do an exercise and always makes sure my form is correct. Plus, his hilarious ways of explaining and helping me remember movements make every session fun and memorable. Ricky genuinely cares about his clients. It doesn’t feel like someone telling you what to do, rather training with him feels like you have a workout partner who has an answer to everything. My two kids and husband also train here with Jesus Soto for a little over a year. My daughter likes coming here to do strength training for her many sport's. Self-Made gym is awesome. I love working out here. They have a lot of solid, up to date equipment thats perfect for my main goal which is muscle building and fat loss. Everyone here is super cool especially the trainers. So many trainers here. One of my favorite trainers that I’ve learned a lot from is Brandon. I’m an experienced weight lifter but he’s taught me so new lifting techniques that has helped me increase in strength and size. He has a good amount of knowledge on nutrition and supplements.

Also love how clean this gym is. That’s a huge factor for me wherever I work out. I hate dirty rundown old gyms that don’t take pride in their cleanliness. Self made is super clean.

Also a bonus: they have a meal prep company here you can get your meals from. I get them when I have a busy week and don’t have time to cook.

But I highly recommend Self Made. I’m done with the dirty big corporate chain gyms

Coach, Isaiah Lin, is the best coach i’ve ever have and I had a few. He’s conscientious in helping me achieve my goa. He’s focus and he motivates me to not give up. Finding him as your trainer/coach has been a blessing.

I have the BEST Trainer here! “Kalani”!!! I do the small group class 2-3 times a week. She is personable, listens, accommodating, understanding and makes me laugh during my sessions. I’m overweight and in my 50’s taking high blood pressure meds. I completely trust my trainer and I even feel better knowing she has her Registered Nursing License, in case I have any medical issues while I’m training. I never exercised before coming here and it was hard at first but she has helped me through this process. I got a personalized meal plan detailed to my weight, muscle and body fat. If you are looking for a trainer choose mine. Kalani will not disappoint you, I promise!

SMTF CH is the best gym I've joined. I've always struggled with losing fat and gaining muscle, but having a professional guide you is pivotal. I wanted to leave a review for my trainer Lydia. I started training with her since Oct. 23’ and let me just say I highly recommend her as a trainer! I have seen a complete difference in my body and overall my health. From not just losing body fat, but to gain muscle and going down 4 pant sizes in a few months, She has pushed me and motivated me to continue to make progress. It doesn’t matter if your goals are small or big she will have your best interest if you’re really dedicated to change. From her just accommodating my work schedule and train at 4am, she’s always there. She has built my confidence not just with my body but to be able to work out on my own without feeling insecure about what I’m doing. Hello everyone,
I had to stop by and leave a review for my Trainer Maryanne. I’ve been Training with her since the end of January of 23’, it’s been about 3 months and I’ve seen such a significant change In my body already. I have to say she’s gone above and beyond to help me get to this small significant change in my body, by holding me accountable teaching me how to eat right and get my body right. I only train with her 2x a week but she texts me throughout the weeks to make sure I’m doing my at home work outs. She’s helped me find a new love for working out and continues to push me outside my limits. Every workout with her she’s shown me knew workouts and even though I’m clueless and sometimes shy to try knew things she’s patient with me till I get the move down. Her motivation to see me do better is what motivates me to do more! But honestly all around the team here is amazing I see all the trainers involved and are very welcoming. For someone who hadn’t been in a gym environment in over years I felt so comfortable right away and welcomed. I’m so happy I chose this over going to a traditional gym. They have their own app that have meal menus for you to meal prep at home and workout to do from home as well. If you’re like me and have no idea about working out and meal prepping this is a great place to come to! Not only do they train you but you learn so much. If you are looking for a Trainer i highly recommend getting a consultation with Maryanne.

Katarina is the best trainer and human.

I’ve never been super overweight, but I definitely gain some weight during Covid lockdown and was not in shape.
In the beginning of this year, I wanted to get fit. Not so much for appearance, but I felt low energy and always tired. I want to feel healthy and confident again.

I’m so happy I found Katarina. She’s seriously the best. Not only she’s so professional and will customize a training plan that truly works for you. She’s also the most positive, sweetest person I’ve ever met. Her uplifting spirit always makes you happy and look forward to training session.

I’ve been only training for a few months. I’m seriously in the best shape in my entire life. I used to be so self conscious about wearing cropped shirt. Now I love them.

I honestly went in their because of the great reviews . I was very disappointed there are a bunch of kids that talk among themselves when training you . That’s was one of the biggest issues with me . Coming in and training I expected motivation and for someone to be monitoring me lifting weights . The last big problem I had was no one cleaning their machines even the trainers . I asked if anything was done different because of covid and there was no response . Other gyms prioritize cleaning after using machines but not this one . This is more of a social gym . I definitely don’t think anyone should join if your 30 and older .

I have stopped by here twice and was very impressed. I got to talk with two of the trainers and watched some boxing sparing.

The staff was very nice and took me on a tour of the facility. I have yet to take a class but perhaps my new years resolution will be to try it out.

From what I saw, they seem to have all types of physical training covered. The place is awesome and has all kinds of phrases on the walls.

I came to this place eager to just be able to get out of bed every day . Since I had a tumor and nerve removal I been off my foot for a very long time causing me to gain weight . I had enough. I explained to my new found trainer Kristen that I still have a mass/tumor in my foot (2nd one )so I would like to do stuff not putting pressure on my foot because even sitting doing nothing I have a moderate level of pain. She seemed to be on board and understanding.i paid to have a personal fitness plan and meal special for ME! I told her I do not eat fish and no dairy .... A week in to the month she FINALLY gave me a meal plan and guess what it had fish and dairy. She did not even bother to have MY personal meal plan for me and my diet. If that was not enough she made me ....excuse me she "encourage me" to do excessive pressure on my foot excersizes. I kept trying to say I can't do this I should not do this I don't even do this at home ... because it hurts putting PRESSURE on my tumor like lunges .. or going up amd Down a metal stand that is high up to my knees required to pressure my foot . I thought she would do like band or more weight on legs like lifts of some sort but nope. I only aggravated my pressure on my nerves I try to not make more drama since she did not seem to listen that it was not just I couldn't because I was out of shape but I could not because I don't want to burst the tumor mass. She refuses to give any refund .won't send me over my "contract" via email or mail or any thing . I talk to the number of this place said they would talk to owner and I try to get a response after my concern / complaint which sounded like they understood.....now no response. So I'm out hundreds of dollars got no where in my fitness goals but now I don't want to go to any personal trainer because that's alooooottt of money to loose . I can't believe it she seemed so sweet. I should have done my research. Quite frankly I want my money back and don't think that my best interest was truly the first priority.

Let me begin by saying I used to hate working out with a passion, I had no motivation and was always making excuses to avoid any kind of gym. And then I met Ben at a different training center. He is a wonderful motivator and gives the best work outs so naturally when he moved to this facility I followed! Self made is great. It’s clean, everyone is friendly and there’s no sense of judgment like at most other gyms. There’s a great array of equipment and trainers willing to help.
