Ok, I'll start by saying you're Climbing gym is on point. Routes cleaned and reset often by legit setters.

Onto my real note.. please handle your bathrooms better. I've been a member since the soft opening. When you have people taking hot showers and going number 2 in the same room. You need HVAC (fans) running consistently. It's not just gross, it's a health hazard. Feces particles stirred up and flying around from flushing in a moist environment is a recipe for illness. Also it'd be great if that sauna was repaired in a timely manner rather than having a sign "down for maintenance" for weeks at a time consistently.

I love this gym - the staff are so friendly, the members are chill people, and the vibe is lovely. I basically only go here for the yoga. All the teachers are great, but I love Danielle's classes. She's an amazing yoga practitioner, funny, welcoming, creative, and has great music playlists.

The space is well thought out, the bouldering is well set, and there is plenty of training/conditioning space with a great kilter board, and many different hangboards, and specific training tools. This was greatly enjoyable.

I think this is a good gym, and it deserves five stars. A cafe with a competent barista and a tension board would be great additions. But that's for my specific preferences. Good job!

Great community | Strong climbing

I’ve been climbing for 18 years now. I’ve climbed both outdoors and indoors all over the country and in some other countries. Also, I lived in Santa Rosa for five years, connecting with this solid climbing community at another gym (including Kevin Jorgeson in this climbing community). So, with this in mind, please consider my review when deciding to come here.

I’m so impressed with what K Jorg has done with this gym. It is a real upgrade to the community here. Everything about this place is well thought out. I love the aesthetics and how the layout of this place is. Upon entering, you’re greeted by the front desk staff and enter the shop area. Sign up/sign in is easy and straight forward. Everything is organized and neat.

To the left: ropes and autobelay
To the right: bouldering
Upstairs: workout training

If you’re new to climbing, the setting here is on the stiffer side compared to franchise gyms like Movement (planet granite). It’s not a bad thing, really, because you know that you’re going to become a strong climber. It’s tougher grades, but the routes are intuitive enough to read and flow on the walls. I didn’t find routes forced or requiring awkward movements. The kid teams were in that day when I went and it was impressive watching them go through their routines with ease. This is also the first time I’ve seen a gym have custom tags with matching color hardware! Again, K Jorg put a lot of thought into this place and it shows.

You can feel and see the community here. From the seasoned climbers to the young newbies, everyone is happy and sharing the stoke. They’re happy to connect and literally hang out together. This is why I love to climb. If a facility lacks a good community, it’s no different than another franchise gym where you’re just a number.

Last thing I wanna mention that furthers the community aspect is the memorial wall to B-RAD foundation. The beautiful photos up are also of those in the climbing community too. This isn’t just another gym that popped up. It’s a place where people matter and the setting is quality.

Corporate, soulless, bad vibes. Some very uncool Staff with small brains and big egos, If you want a good community climbing center with good vibes, great climbing, great staff, and real slacklining (not just a slack rack) go to Vertex. It’s cheaper, better, and is better for learning outdoor climbing. I would never go back to this place. It’s wack.

Awesome small city gym.

Reasonable prices.

Good routsetting/hold selection.

Well maintained and clean facility.

Several autobelays (although they need to set some good hard endurance trainers on the autobelays)

Good vibes at the desk.

Clearly run by people who care about the sport and are willing to invest in their facility.

I hope that they are very successful!

Great place to bring my 11 year old son to climb for a couple hours. Staff seams very nice, helpful, and supportive. 4 vs 5 stars only because they don't have a slab where you can practice edging either one handed or no handed. Otherwise very nice! Clean, and with a large bouldering area.

We hosted a birthday party here for my ten year daughter. All the kids had the absolute best time and loved the climbing! I really liked and appreciated that we had our own semi-private area for climbing for our group. That way, we weren’t getting in other people’s ways and we didn’t have to wait our turn behind other climbers. We had two climbing employees for our group of 8 to help get the kids clipped in for each climb and to check on safety. The employees were kind and great with the kids. I would HIGHLY recommend this place for your kids birthday party. You will not be disappointed!

This place is dangerous. They do not give new climbers any instruction on how to hook everything on so if you do it wrong, you could plummet to the bottom. And we all know what will happen if you plummet to the bottom from that high. Just letting people know if you’re a beginner the kids at the front desk don’t show you how to do it. They also don’t give you any instruction on how to climb. This is a huge safety issue. I’m thinking about letting the authorities know. But that’s a reflection on management and the owner. They should be telling them you need to show people how to hook these on and give climbing instructions before you go up. Crazy..

An update of my review to the response from owner-

I realize that these reviews affect your business and I wouldn’t have posted this if it wasn’t true. We were not given any instruction as I stated before. I even tried to ask the Frontdesk workers for instruction on how to put on the equipment and they were not helpful so I do appreciate your response, but it is still unsafe because this was not the case for us. We got no instruction and no guidance on how to climb or put on the belt. They handed the climbing equipment to my minor son did not show him how to put it on, did not ask if him if he had climbed before. Even if he had climbed before because of the risk of falling, they should make sure every time someone comes in that they know how to put it on especially for children. They did not make sure he was OK nothing at all.

If I was made aware that there were beginning climbing sessions or anything at all that would instruct us I would have definitely taken you guys up on that. But we were not made aware of our options.

Im just letting people know so they’re aware of this and they can make the choice whether they want to go there or not. Moving forward, I hope that this business does take this seriously before people start climbing to make sure that they are appropriately and thoroughly instructed so they are safe during their session.

A quick warning, for those of you hoping to rock climb here: there actually aren't any rocks to climb. It's all just plastic shaped like rocks. I know the plasti-heads will likely be stoked, but should there not be some sort of warning in case a geologist walks in? What if you dissapoint a geologist DID YOU EVER EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT???

Very nice facility though. Great for plastic-shaped-like-rock climbing.

I was very excited to get to Session after some injuries kept me out of climbing gyms for a bit. Coming from Vertx I was stoked for a larger facility / gym.

What I found disappointing after a year of being a member..

is the use of space inside. I am not interested in paying 100$~ a month for a lounge in the middle of a small gym, that is almost always taken up by students hanging out after school or completely empty.
We have parks, breweries, libraries, homes, teen centers, all sorts of social spaces for adults / teens that fill that void.

More bouldering space, a real sauna, more machines, or even a dedicated room to the trainers and their classes, would have been a far better use of that space that’s bigger than the entire ‘gym’ section upstairs. As someone that works relatively normal hours I can’t find the time to get there outside of after school / work hours. Most of the time this makes the weights etc scarce as they and the tiny space are shared with classes, the walls full, and the vibe honestly feels like a teen center.

Completely cheaped out on the weights, machines, and room upstairs. I felt like I needed a second gym membership to really be able to get the workout I wanted as well as to actually get stronger and meet my goals. At the prices of a membership here I don’t think that’s appropriate.

Multiple week+ bouldering room / wall shut downs. No sauna for months. I’ve been a member at gyms that host comps and do shutdowns but I’ve never seen all access to bouldering shutdown for a week+. Could’ve been done in sections to maintain access to your paying customers.

So much potential in that space, just poor management, planning, and execution.

Sessions Climbing Gym is top-notch!

This gym offers everything you could ask for in a climbing facility. The climbing walls are diverse and well-maintained, with routes for every skill level. From overhangs and vertical routes to creative holds and challenging bouldering problems, there’s something for everyone. The space is clean, modern, and feels fresh, making climbing here a great experience.

What sets Sessions apart is the atmosphere. The seating area and lounge are welcoming, with plenty of room to relax, work, or socialize. It’s clear they’ve designed the space with both climbers and the community in mind. Whether you’re a seasoned climber or a total beginner, the staff and environment here are welcoming and helpful.

Sessions Climbing is more than a gym—it’s a place you want to spend time in, even off the walls. I highly recommend checking it out!

Yeah, sandbagged compared to most gyms, and I LOVE it! Most gyms are too soft and give people an unrealistic idea of their skill level, and that can translate to a dangerous situation outside. Great, creative, technical route setting. The skill building the route-setter had in mind is clear. Route setters should get a cookie or something

Membership is a little pricey. Overall clean facility, the yoga is actually really good and enjoyable. Advise bringing your own yoga mat, they are often out of cleaning solution to spray down loaner mats. Parking can be limited at peak times. Staff is mostly friendly. It seems like they do have cleaning staff but towels are seldom restocked and bathrooms can be a little unkept on busy days and when the kids teams are going. Overall fun place to go, highly advise going with someone who has experience as this place doesn’t really hold your hand and walk you through everything. Also be cautious as they did just replace some of the ropes and they are very slippery. If you pull the release lever on your grigri all the way open you will slide down very fast. A little startling if you are new. Also, some people dislike the music but I prefer the diversity over stock music/generic radio. Make sure you get top rope certified!!

This place is the vital community hub that we have needed in Sonoma County for so long. Thank you Kevin and all the other creators. If you want inspired friendly community (and lots of new friends), incredible yoga and fitness classes, and of course, amazing climbing, this place is for you! I grew up in Sonoma County, and loved so much about it, but always felt it lacked true athletic community-building space. I'm so glad we have one now.

If the rain and winter are getting you down, get your butt over here and and give this place a try. I was feeling depressed and isolated doing online school and now Im excited to wake up everyday again. It's corny but it's true!

I'm amazed at how well executed everything is here, but the climbing is next level. Session puts a lot of effort into always creating new routes and the setters are incredible. I'm novice climber, but I can still tell quality when I see it. Thank to all the setters!

(Update 4 stars down from 5) while the above is still true. I have noticed a lack of upkeep. Some people quitting because of difficulty with the management, and lack of responsiveness to issues that affect the usability of key aspects of the gym. The sauna hasn’t been working for the six months or so. Some of the weight room equipment was worn out or broken for months before it was replaced. The group workout classes routinely take all of the weight equipment so none is left for the rest of us. I had to bring my own set of tools to tighten bolts on the weight equipment myself.

I think it’s up to all of us to keep using the suggestion box and telling mgmt when we see problems.

I still love this place and have a so much gratitude for everyone that works here and makes this place possible

Great staff, great environment. No qualms there. It's when we talk about money that Session is unethically greedy. They claim to have a "Family Membership Plan", but it just gives discount rates per person (and not even real discounts unless you have kids 6-11). There is no flat family rate like EVERYWHERE else. Why is that? This is false advertising. Secondly, and most egregiously, someone decided that they should charge to use a GriGri. $5 regardless if you are a member. No one reasonable charges for safety equipment, especially when you require a specific type. What's next, are y'all going to charge for rope too? How about the mats? This is ridiculous. Either let your members use them for free or weld them shut to the ropes like reasonable gyms do... I will obviously keep going to Session, but these monetization aspects are not ok.

Why oh why does your staff allow small children to run wild doing parkour all over the sofas hanging on the handles on the stairway running like maniacs all through the sofa area it’s scary to see if they may fall and bust their heads on the cement floor do y’all want that kind of litigation? Do you have sufficient insurance? Why do parents allow their children to do that? We’ve been to the climbing gym Gravity Vault in Marin county they have strict rules about what I mentioned for safety reasons and it makes climbers nervous to be around unwatched wild running little kids. Also, the staff at Gravity Vault is 100 times more attentive to what is going on in the gym.

It was a lot of fun and I'm going to be coming back regularly. They give you a discount on renting gear the first time you go too which is lovely.

The one (very slight) downside was that we weren't given more of an introduction by the staff person. (An example being the difference between V levels, what the rules for touching the top of the wall are, or even recommending chalk usage). They were still super awesome and polite, but most of the education came from other climbers (who are also lovely and happy to help!).

That being said, I am going back and will continue to do so because it's a fantastic place to climb and meet other, more experienced, climbers and have a good time!

This place is unsafe for anyone under 18. There is zero supervision and zero instructions. There is not a single person checking to make sure any rules are being followed. Do not send your kids or go there if you have not received lessons. You have to tie your own knotsNo BODY CHECKS them. You also have to put your own land gear, NO BODY CHECKS IT. on the safety retractor, there is no extra safety rope like in other places. If that thing fails, you go down 40 feet onto a mat. NOT A SINGLE PERSON CHECKS ON ANY OF THE KIDS OR ANY ADULTS THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT. Luckily, the majority of the people that go have been trained and do it all the time. No one new should go unsupervised and without getting any lessons somewhere else. Also, you can go and hang out and listen to inappropriate Latin music if you want.

Yoga brought me to Session. Top instructors Shannan Donovan and Danielle Kelleher teach here. They are beloved by many and it's obvious why - you can't cut the line of experience and their classes are proof. Overall, Session is pretty middling. The facilities are modern, the boulder routes are decent enough, and the top rope is decent. The biggest issue is recent policy changes. They don’t allow you to use ATC belay devices and instead require grigris. This is the only climbing gym I have been to that requires the grigri. I can understand this from an insurance point of view. And for a while, they allowed you to borrow a grigri. This is the sensible way to implement this rule. But last time I was there, they told me they are no longer loaning grigri, but are making you rent one. This is a really bad customer experience. If you want to require a particular belay device, then have them available for loan. Session is already the most expensive climbing gym in the area. If they are going to start changing extra for something that I only need because of their rules, I won’t be going back.

Lots of potential and beautiful facilities.

Bouldering problems are pretty one dimensional though. The route setters here seem to create difficulty mostly by using sloper holds that require strength rather than creating fun mental/spatial puzzles to solve with a wider range of hold types. Basically the routes are in simple patterns and the primary challenge is about gripping holds, which also doesn’t create much of a social experience.

The fitness area is wonderful though and I didn’t try any ropes

Much more beginner friendly than Vertex (which is the other climbing gym in town.) Good bouldering options. Enough top rope lines to keep you busy for the day, and several lead lines for the more experienced climbers. Nice relaxing area in the middle of the gym for parents who might not want to monkey up the walls like their kids. Nice yoga studio, and decent gym. Gym equipment is pretty sparse-- but you're there to climb, right?

Note that unlike Vertex, Session requires that all climbers use a Grigri belay device. If you don't have one, you can rent them there.

Again--a cleaner, more open, more beginner friendly experience than Vertex. Higher walls, more modern equip than Vertex for sure. A more fulfilling experience. The only things I didn't like about Session were the required use of a Grigri, and there probably aren't enough 5.12+ lines for super serious climbers. Otherwise, highly recommend!!

Had been looking forward to this gym opening for a while, the gym itself is great. Decent amount of problems on the bouldering wall and great fitness center with good amount of machines and free weights, resistance bands, bench press, yoga studio. I went during the soft opening as I had payed extra in advance to do so, the people at the front desk were friendly enough! I opted to go get certified on belay for as my first activity in the gym. the guy doing my belay test nearly made me never come back, completely condescending and rude! I accidentally barely stepped on the rope, he lectured me about how I shouldn't step on the rope because outside it could ruin the rope (duh) however we were inside!! This really wouldn't have been an issue if he said it in a different tone, also as I finished my belay test I dropped the gri gri on the padded floor by the big wall and he just had to say " yeah try not to drop the gri gri" as if I did it on purpose. I want to give the gym itself a good rating because it is a good gym, and I've been now multiple times and never had an issue with staff after that. But that guy nearly made me want to not come back. I don't know his name but I hope he reads this.

Came here with some friends. Definitely have a lot of options to choose from on the bouldering wall. They definitely have a lot of skill levels to choose. I went in the afternoon so it was moderately busy but everyone was respectful of. If you wanted to climb on a certain wall, definitely recommend going with someone who has been there before as he can be a little bit overwhelming at first. The facility is kept up really nicely and a staff was friendly. Pricing is moderately high so definitely recommend coming a few times a week to get your memberships worth. Also parking is super easy and it conveniently located right off the freeway. Didn't try their weightlifting facility upstairs but walked around and definitely looks great.

I had never climbed once in my life before joining session, but after their intro to climbing class with their staff I'm giving it a go and better yet my 8 year old is really loving it. They have a moderate size gym upstairs and a great yoga studio too. They do have a few showers and a small locker room area for after a work out if needed. Great place with a super friendly staff that so far is ready to answer any questions. Could use a few more beginner/kid areas, but I get that this is a true climbers gym and they have enough for everyone.
