I’m 2 years into personal training with Tav. Great customized workouts from a very professional instructor. In just 2 sessions a week, Tav has me back in shape after years of neglect. Great blend of strength, flexibility, agility, and cardio workouts. He’s also taught me new ways to avoid injury. Also, great guy.

I have been a student of Tav’s for nearly a decade and I can genuinely say that he has been instrumental in helping me maintain and improve both my physical and mental health. Tav is both conscientious and motivating at the same time. He practices an innovative approach to fitness that is accessible and beneficial for any level. He’s also just a very kind person with a fun personality. I would recommend Tav to anybody and everybody.

I've been training with Tav remotely for 3+ years and could not imagine entrusting anyone else with my fitness goals. He's a wealth of physiological knowledge and is very attuned to the needs of his trainees. Tav puts so much intention into the workout designs, and he always strikes the right balance between increasing flexibility, strength-building, and recovery. Because of that, even some of the hardest sessions leave me feeling refreshed. Five stars are simply not enough to properly rate the Six Harmonies United experience.

I've been working out with Tav for the past few months, doing personal training via zoom. Tav is the best! He explains everything you are doing and how it is helping certain muscles. If I have pain or an injury, he provides excellent modifications. Best note, his humor and candor is fantastic over zoom. Good energy that keeps you going. Not to mention great music playing in the background too ;)

Tav’s strength training class has been life changing! I’m stronger, more toned, and have such improved posture. Tav creates a balanced, full-body workout. He pays attention to the smallest details to prevent injury and make sure his students get the most out of each session.

I love training here. The gym is clean and has all of the things I need. Training with Tav has given me back parts of my life. I came in struggling with a variety of injuries from muscle imbalances. I couldnt run more than a mile, couldn't hike anything with real elevation. In less than 6 months I was able to do a 10 mile hike climbing 2500ft, pain free. I'm running 10-20 miles a week and I feel better and healthier than ever.

I've studied a few different styles of kung fu over the past twenty years - Northern Chinese Long Fist, Hung Gar, Bangau Putih Silat, and now Six Harmonies Eagle Claw kung fu with Sifu Tav Byerhoff. Of these, the Eagle Claw training feels unique and exceptional for several reasons.

The system is based on centuries-old Chinese military principles, and this particular school's masters can be traced back several generations. There is a tremendous global community as a result of this history, making the school part of a rich international culture of martial artists. Sifu Tav is an acknowledged inheritor of Sifu Benson Lee and Grandmaster Leung Shum, so this school is situated at the center of an impressive lineage.

The daily training reflects the sense of tradition and the nuanced complexity that comes with generations of refinement. Eagle Claw develops sophisticated external/internal energetics, particularly when paired with the Wu Tai Chi training. The style has many varied components - dynamic aerial kicks as well as circular and linear straight kicks; intricate and varied hand styles and clawing techniques, including a complete system of Chin Na locks; complex footwork patterning and stances, which flow seamlessly into a series of leg sweeps and throws; numerous open hand long forms and corresponding weapons forms, many of which are tailored to, or chosen by, the individual practitioner. Given the diversity of techniques in Eagle Claw, the style is uniquely adaptable to martial artists who are coming from other styles. I've been able to preserve many of the techniques learned in my earlier systems, and then refine them with the control and precision that is a hallmark of Six Harmonies Eagle Claw training. For students new to martial arts, I can't think of a better foundational style.

Wu Tai Chi, also taught at the school, has been my primary focus, and it has proven invaluable in augmenting my kung fu with breathing and balancing techniques that promote clarity, stability, and relaxation in martial situations. The Wu system taught here includes Qi Gong practice, traditional long form movements, and advanced round form techniques as a transitional step into combat applications of the form. For those interested, the school teaches the martial components of the tai chi movements, including partner exercises designed to develop heightened feeling and sensitivity for self-defense rooted in soft, internal power.

Sifu Tav Byerhoff is a patient, sensitive instructor who is both deeply knowledgeable and capable of tailoring your practice to your range of abilities. Sifu Tav has judged at regional and national competitions and is respected in the Chinese martial arts community - he also teaches internationally as a representative of the Eagle Claw tradition. The community of students feels like a group of friends who promote an inclusive, welcoming space for training at your pace and according to your desired outcomes.

Personally, I feel fortunate to have found this school - very highly recommended for beginning and advanced martial artists alike.

This kung fu training program is VERY adaptable for excellent online learning. I study with Sifu Tav in-person as well as online and I find the core Northern style Kung Fu training to be a solid source of structure and inspiration throughout the week. Sifu Tav has an inspiring enthusiasm for details and can teach you a strong foundation for all the benefits Kung Fu brings. This studio is an excellent health resource no matter where you may live.

I’ve been fortunate to be a student of Sifu Tav’s for almost 4 years (three in person and one online), studying Wu style Tai Chi and Eagle Claw kung fu. One of his great strengths is that he can teach a diverse group of students and keep everyone challenged where they’re at, understanding that people come to martial arts with different learning goals in mind—self-defense, forms, fitness, meditation. He’s extremely knowledgeable about all of these things and makes them accessible, so you’re likely to get more than just what you came for. Sifu Tav creates a warm, welcoming, and productive atmosphere, whether you’re training with him in person or on Zoom. Four years in, I’ve gained so much from this practice and teacher, and I’m still always learning new things. I can’t recommend Sifu Tav enough.

Tav's experience, commitment and excellence as a teacher is evident. His approach is thoughtful, focused and patient which is helpful as a adult student trying to learn something new like Tai Chi. I have also seen him teaching kids classes and he is great at keeping the kids organized and attentive. I believe they are learning valuable skills through martial arts that will translate into their daily lives. I highly recommend seeing what he has to offer!

Sifu. Tav is an amazing instructor with great knowledge and experience of Leung Shum lineage of Eagle Claw Kung Fu and Wu style Tai Chi. He sees what I need to work on through online classes and gives me clear definitions of techniques. I really appreciate him providing the classes and instruction online. I'm sure you will enjoy training with him too!

Learning martial arts from Sifu Tav is one of the best decisions you can make! He's extremely dedicated to the Eagle Claw style and exceptionally patient and kind as an instructor. His teaching methods are great for all types of practitioners, from the very beginners to the very advanced — as well as all types of fitness levels and abilities. There is something for everyone here!

The style is focused on yielding and defensive tactics coupled with clawing techniques that provide an opportunity to strike. Perfect for women who can never out muscle a larger opponent, but instead need to rely on strategy to gain an advantage. At the intermediate level you start learning weapons and forms, but nothing is taught without a complimentary practical application soon to follow. It’s a very versatile and wholistic system.

If you're taking the online classes, Sifu Tav engages with you through the screen, makes personalized corrections, and has been building up a library of fantastic instructional videos that are easy to follow. I've been studying with him for over five years and he's taken me from a very beginner to training for my black belt. I learn something new from him every class.
