if you want your child to get true and sound ballet technique from experienced and professional instructors all while learning in a caring and encouraging environment, SLOMAC is the studio for you. A true ballet conservatory program with American Ballet Theater certification taught by inspiring artists. Owners Ryan and Maartje, have experience in dance and choreography from around the world, bringing their expertise to local slo county children from preschool age to adulthood. We love being a part of the SLOMAC family, my daughter has been thriving there for the last 6 years! Thankful we found this studio and these people!

Great option for adult ballet in SLO, though limited offerings. The studio is mostly dedicated to conservatory classes — understandably so — and although adult class is currently only once a week it’s very welcoming and there’s a good range and variety of material. The level shifts a little depending on the students in attendance, but is typically a comfortable middle ground between basic and high beginner level, often with mods for more/less advanced students. Hopefully adult offerings will grow in the future, as the teachers here are excellent.

Have you ever revisited an old part of you? I have taken some ballet here and there at different times of my life and found myself inspired to try it out again. As an adult, it can be a little intimidating to join a movement class where you know nothing of the studio, the teacher, other students or what to expect.

Thankfully, upon entering the bustling studio I immediately felt like there is a true sense of community at the SLO Movement Arts Center. I used the stanchion kiosk to check in and pay for my drop in adult ballet class while another class was finishing up with some raucous across the floor combinations. That feeling of intimidation crept back in seeing the lithe dances expertly float and jump across the studio with youthful energy.

As the clock shifted over and the adult ballet class assembled in the smaller studio B, the door closed and the instructor/owner smiled in relief as the serenity of the studio blocked out the noise of the larger studio in rehearsals for a large dance production. I think she enjoyed the reprieve of our small class of beginner ballerina hopefuls.

After a brief welcome, the first bars of classical music floated in and our heads and bodies gently rolled in time to the warm up music...I felt relieved and settled into enjoy a lovely 75 min class on a Monday evening with a fabulous teacher who made all who attended feel safe & welcome. The "SloMAC" as locals call it is an inclusive studio that I will for sure be coming back back too for more adult ballet classes.

My daughters beg to go to SLOMAC every day! The environment is beautiful, comfortable and conducive to expression. The owners make everyone feel welcome and have the amazing ability to share their professional dance skills with children of varying abilities. We are proud to be part of the SLOMAC family.
