DONT BE FOOLED!! A bunch of scammers and liars. They only care about commission and will lie to you in order to sneak charge you like they did to me. Will lie to you over the phone and harass you with calls every day and when i finally agree to their "waive" of the fees i supposedly owed. I think this gym is great because it has everything you need for a solid workout. You can train with your friends, use all the different machines and equipment, and then relax afterward. After your workout, you can unwind in the sauna, enjoy the steam room, or take a dip in the hot tub. Overall, it’s an awesome place to stay fit and have fun.

I’ve been a member here on and off since 2018, back when it was still USA Fitness and sadly, this place has only gone downhill.
The equipment is a joke. Machines are constantly broken, weights are disorganized or flat-out damaged, and good luck finding a barbell that isn't bent. It’s chaotic and clearly neglected. The gym is always humid like a locker room without ventilation and the HVAC seems to have been broken forever. Vents drip condensation, and when it rains, the roof leaks and the parking structure floods. I literally had to WALK A PLANK to enter the gym from the parking structure (See photos.)

On top of the conditions, the billing practices are shady. I pay annually instead of monthly just to avoid their ridiculous “equipment fee,” which somehow isn’t included in the regular membership price if you pay month to month and it's buried in the fine print of the contract, barely disclosed. It’s insulting to charge extra for “equipment” when the equipment is in this kind of shape especially knowing they have loads of passive income from people with memberships who don’t even go to the gym.

Once my membership is up, I’m done. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere somewhere that actually reinvests in its facilities and values its members.

The restrooms and locker rooms are somehow even worse. They constantly smell like a mix of urine, mold, and industrial cleaner like someone’s trying to mask the stench but gave up halfway. The toilets are frequently clogged or don’t flush properly, and it’s not uncommon to find entire sections roped off with handwritten “Out of Order” signs taped to the doors for weeks at a time. It’s honestly disgusting and completely unacceptable for a facility that charges premium rates.

Between the broken equipment, unsafe environment, shady billing, and unsanitary conditions, this gym is an embarrassment.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.

Edit: Although there is a variety of equipment here, it is not worth the hassle. I live less than 5 minutes away and that’s the only reason that I’ve been coming here for so long. I’ve finally had it and am moving on. If I were you, move onto another gym before even starting at this one.

I’m really mad at this place in sylmar, because they took money out of my account without my permission. When I first became a member, the manager told me my monthly was going to be 34.99, dlls.which was monthly, when they changed me, he said also you need to pay 45 dlls for membership too. They didn’t tell me that before.
I don’t feel comfortable with he action and before starting the second month, I told them do not take any more money out of my account I changed my account and I will be paying cash, but they still took the money from my account. I didn’t know.
I paid cash for June -14 until july 14 . Was there until July 11 .
I used only the pool for therapy, but it’s dirty around the pool, and always the water is freezing.before completing the 2 months they told me I had to pay 69 Dlls. For maintenance. I said “why aren’t you telling me until now?
They said after 2 months everyone needs to pay.
I said NO I’ M NOT GOING TO PAY.
I said I want to cancel the membership. can’t pay that.
They never told me I had to sign papers, and the next 2 months they took out of my account 168.dlls.
I called to complain and the manager was making fun of me because he only speak English and he was laughing as I spoke . I said pass me your supervisor and he said I am, so I said pass me to the owner, he laughed, and said I am and hung up the phone.
I am older person and it is not fear to abuse and deceive people.
My bank intervened and only managed to get them to returned 44.99.which was from August. 14 - sept.14
They didn’t return the money from July.- 14 August.14 .

I switched from Planet Fitness to this gym and the quality of my workouts changed dramatically. There’s a huge variety of equipment and the space is huge compared to Planet Fitness down the street. Another one of my favorite things about this gym is the lighting, perfect for posing and creating a lowkey vibe for your workout. The pricing is reasonable for what you get and I thought it was a well invested upgrade. This gym may not be for everyone but if you’re an aspiring gymrat, then this gym is for you.

I was trying to check out the gym because I just moved to the Sylmar area and they wanted to charge me $20 for a day pass, I also had a FREE day pass that my boyfriend gave me because he goes to this gym and Greg said I couldn’t use it because my id did not have a Sylmar address, I offered to show him a bill under my name but unfortunately I could not use that. Made me pretty disappointed because I’m new to the area and I want to get a membership. On top of that Greg was pretty cocky and not helpful, he kept saying I would love the gym just because they are a speakeasy pretty much stuck up, like who are you to tell me what I will like and not like. Made me not want to get a gym membership there. I’ll stick to LA fitness.

Parking sucks, many break ins and small parking structure where people drive like they are drifting on a movie of tokyo drift, guest passes are $20 if you want to bring a friend during week days and they have to be over 18, many broken machines, the hours suck, they close early, if you call they won't answer but when you pull up there is someone at desk not doing anything. I tried canceling my membership because hours don't align with my new work schedule and girl that answered (lizeth) said, "you knew the hours when you signed up"
Like yes I did but I'm telling you I have a new work schedule now. Very rude and unprofessional. If you don't have your tag to sign in they charge $10 for a new one instead of just letting you in with your phone #. So many other reasons they disappoint. Made a 1 time payment with a different card and they keep charging that card without my permission. Called and said can they take off the card off file and 2 months later they keep charging card. I call and the staff sound so offended like I owe them something.

This gym smells funny im guessing it’s from all the leaks in ceiling, not to mention their workers have attitude. I tired to bring my daughter along with me to the gym with my buddy pass and they said she needed to be 18, it doesn’t really make sense because she was going to be entering with her parent. If children’s safety was the concern then they shouldn’t let anyone under the age of 18 get a membership in the first place. It doesn’t make sense how my 15 year old son can enter anytime alone. While my soon to be 18 year old daughter can’t enter with her own mother.

Why is it when I first started I was paying $20/month 3 month contract and I was okay with that but after my contract ended I kept going but eventually they started charging more to my credit card. RUN AWAY!!! RUN AWAY AND NEVER COME BACK HERE!!!
I had a very disappointing experience with this gym. They were not transparent about their fees and contract terms. During sign-up, they only mentioned a $1 charge for the trial period, but never clearly explained that it would automatically convert into a full membership with additional charges. They also imposed a $7 card fee without proper justification and didn’t inform about it upfront.

When I tried to clarify the charges and cancel, they revealed that I’d have to pay $400-$500 to terminate the contract early, or provide proof of relocation or a medical reason. None of these conditions were explained during the sign-up process. It feels like they deliberately hide these details to trap customers into long-term contracts with hefty penalties.This lack of transparency and poor communication is completely unacceptable. The staff did not provide any detailed information about these terms, and it feels like they’re taking advantage of customers. I strongly advise anyone considering this gym to be extremely cautious and thoroughly read the fine print. My experience has been frustrating and disappointing, and I hope others can avoid the same pitfalls.

When I questioned why I wasn’t allowed in despite having a signed agreement and payment confirmation, he said, “I don’t want you to overuse the gym privileges.” I explained that I had already entered into a legal agreement with the gym and had the right to access the facility. His solution? “I’ll just cancel your agreement and refund your money.” That was his idea of customer service.

It honestly felt like he was trying to push me into paying an extra $20 for a guest pass—maybe even hoping to pocket it. Either way, this isn’t how a gym should treat members. There was no manager to speak to, no accountability, and a complete lack of professionalism.

I won’t be coming back. Speakeasy just lost a member—not because of any policy, but because of how poorly and unfairly I was treated. Making up rules to charge people more isn’t just unprofessional, it’s unethical.

Dishonest. I was tricked into a 12 month contract when I knew I was moving in 3 months. Was verbally told month to month and like an idiot signed the kiosk that did not display the contract. Repeatedly asked if it was month to month. Make sure you know what your signing because they will lie.
Serval times a month they don't show up until after 5:30am ( it's now 5:52am). Cars line up down the road and it's a mess.
Probably best gym in the area tho. Large facility with a lot of equipment. Not as many people go there cause It's really filthy but it's San Fernando so not really unexpected

This is a 100% honest review. This gym has a lot of machines. Very clean & people are very nice. However, I believe membership prices are way too high compared to other local gyms that have the same stuff, maybe a little bit more. Also, the one thing I dislike is how theres something always wrong with the building itself. For example, recently due to the rain, theres water falling from the ceiling or the parking lot is flooded. This leads to an area of the gym constantly being closed due to the bad structure which means less equipment to use & more traffic around the other machines. Yesterday, 3/11/25, the gym was closed due to "upgrading the facility" but this was a lie, they were just filming a movie in there. Today 3/12/25, the gym had no electricity. Maybe tomorrow the gym wont even have equipment, who knows. In conclusion, I believe you're paying high prices to get an above average gym.

This Speakeasy "gym" is terrible. They used to be USA Fitness, then they changed their business name at some point. When gyms were closed during the COVID lockdown, Speakeasy/USA Fitness was still charging my card. Mind you, this was during the period when gyms were completely closed. I had to call my bank to force stop the charges. No effort from them to give me credit or a refund back.

I never went back once gyms were open again because of that situation. Even back then this gym had issues with broken down machines, and overall uncleanliness.

I switched to Planet Fitness and never looked back.

If I could do NO STAR or negative, I would!!! When me and my wife signed up, no one told us that we will be under contract. Since we signed up we haven’t been to the gym, now that we are contacting them to cancel, they are giving us a hard time that we need medical proof, or other stuff. Management is saying we need medical proof but no hand written notes or visit summary, been asking what form but does not really being specific. Frankly this is not cool at all. 2 months charges and partial year maintenance and another year of maintenance fee for two people is too much!!! Mind you, we didn’t even got a tour or anything, when we asked for one, they said we can walk around!!!

Train your staff to be specific to people that signs up!!! Explain everything! Explain the contract if there would be one!

I only go here because they have a plethora of machines to use, but besides that, this gym is absolutely filthy, disgusting, and gross. They never clean the bathrooms, there’s always something leaking from the ceiling, the steam and sauna are always broken, there’s rat poop in the bathrooms that sits there for weeks. Treadmills are out of date and some of them are falling apart and machines go broken and take forever to fix. They took away their beautiful dance studio and hot cycling room and their smoothie bar. This gym use to have character to it, but the new owner just stripped away everything creative about it. Also, the parking lot is filthy with broken glass and trash everywhere. Wish this place would just do better on the sanitation part of it. Also customer service is lacking a lot.

You guys need to get it together. RAT FECES on the floors in the shower, steam and sauna areas is becoming a health hazard. You say you close the wet areas an hour early for cleaning but in the morning the showers, steam and sauna are as dirty as the night before. Same bottle caps and trash on floor in all areas. Steam room smells moldy. Today the sauna smelled like week old sweat and was filthy. They don't enforce the rules in steam and sauna area. People go in fully clothed wearing shoes with makes the areas super dirty and unhealthy to breath. The steam room has been closed for almost a month with no signs of being fixed. The Jacuzzi was not working for 2 months and they fixed it. The steam room went down. It’s very rare that the steam, sauna and jacuzzi work at the same time. They add water to soap dispensers instead of adding more soap. They went weeks without hanging any soap at all. We pay money every month and then a fee once a year for maintenance so you guys should be doing way better and not taking advantage of you costumers. Any CEO, Manager and employee should be embarrassed.

This is definitely a place to come get ripped, enjoy the view of the mountains.
There is a personal trainer/Manager named Edwin who is very knowledgeable of all the equipment and recourses the Gym has to offer, including 3 floors, swimming pool and much much more. There are also various other locations in the area.

After coming for a year straight because I couldn’t cancel until I was out the control my experience was overall alright. They have good machines and I like how there’s different floors but really I don’t think it’s worth the price. If money isn’t a problem for you then sure go for it but I’d recommend to stay away from this gym if money is a concern (especially since you're forced to pay for a whole year because of the contract they make you sign). The only thing imma miss from this gym is the lights because it gave a different vibe. Lighting in the lockers are horrible though and not to mention the lockers and bathrooms were mostly dirty, never had toilet paper, and always smelled musty. Oh yeah hours are horrible too and parking lot sucks. Overall 6/10.

It’s solid and benefits from being the only gym in the area, but the equipment needs more regular maintenance, they need to invest in some more weights (need more plates, ez curl bars, and dumbbells), there’s only 1 working water fountain, and they gotta turn the gym music down.

I like that this gym is near by and it has a lot of machine's. But for what you pay the elevator is DISGUSTING !!!! When you are tired and don’t want to take the stairs the elevator is so gross. The stairs are covered in gum. The whole parking lot has never been swept cleaned up or pressure washed a lot of gym equipment needs to be reupholstered. When it rains it’s leaks and there is sections where the ceiling is falling apart. The elevator hasn’t been inspected since 2017. It’s supposed to be inspected every year.

They have a lot of good machines and it doesn’t get too busy, but there is such a shortage of weights. As a smaller person lifting any other gym I have gone to has had 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5 etc. I feel like I am never able to go up in weights at this gym because the jump from a 10 to 15 lb weight is so dramatic. I also feel like they should have 2.5 and 5 lb weight plates for the cable machines to make those weights more adjustable, more cable attachments, a better system of weight organization and re-racking (items are consistently left strewn all over the gym floor), and a curl rack. I like the gym over all, but all of these small issues can make the workout a lot more tedious than it needs to be.

Rude. Upon inquiring about price plans with the older male receptionist with the beard he said what do you need instead of being greeted, and he responded aggressively if $30 is too much for the quality of the gym then go somewhere else. There is a huge hole on the 3rd floor ceiling with insulation falling out it’s dusty machines always broken and male workers are allowed to go into the women’s restroom/ showers at any given time there is even a sign stating it, so yes it’s overpriced and that attitude was very unprofessional to paying customers who approach you in a respectful manner. Please reach out for customer service training the younger gentlemen are always kind.
