Ass kicked, feel great. Traveling and had an excellent session at Spenga. The training model led to a very efficient workout, each third was great, and ideal progression. Very friendly staff, they helped me get the bike setup, encouraged me and gave helpful pointers on form. Beautiful and clean studio.

This is the most friendly work out place I have ever been. The workouts are great. You don’t get bored and you’re feeling it the next morning. I went ahead and signed up for unlimited classes, cause it was such a good deal and give myself a kickstart till the first of the year

I highly recommend trying out Spenga, especially for those who are starting their fitness journey. There is a sense of community, but it also great for introverts. It is 20 minutes of spin, 20 minutes of strength, and 20 minutes of yoga. I used to be someone who only liked to do cardio (and never stretch). I now understand the importance and value of all three types of exercise. More importantly, having incorporated Spenga to my routine has helped me with my mental health so much. Spenga holds me accountable, and at the same time reminds me to prioritize myself because I have to set time for these sessions. It is pricier than a regular gym membership, but if you can afford it, and it is in your budget, it is worth it to give it a try. It is definitely worth it because the instructors are great. I especially like that they help me with my form during strength training, which is something I've been working on.

Highly Recommend SPENGA!
SPENGA has been a game-changer for both my mental and physical health. The energy, the structure, and the supportive community make it more than just a workout—it's a full-body reset in just one hour. The instructors are incredible—motivating, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in your progress. It's the perfect mix of spin, strength, and yoga, and it flies by because it's actually fun. If you're looking for a workout that boosts your mood and your fitness, this is it.

Love this gym and community. Really appreciate the large number of classes to choose from everyday. Very helpful to work into my schedule and maintain consistency. The Spenga classes are the perfect blend of cardio and strength and then stretching at the end. Feels great to get the work in and then get stretched out (which I don’t tend to do on my own) at the end , and without overdoing the output. The instructors and staff are also very positive and helpful to make everyone feel welcome and good about themselves.
Love this place!

I have been going to SPENGA since the first day it opened in July 2021. I love it. The format is great: 20 minutes of spin, 20 minutes of strength/ weights, and 20 minutes of yoga. There are also REP classes that are just focused on weights. The owner MK and the staff are amazing. I love the workouts, the music, the clean space, and the community of people who go. I have never felt stronger in my life. Grateful for this awesome place!

I joined SPENGA Santa Cruz as part of my holistic health regimen, but what I found was a fun, respectful, inclusive, inspiring community that not only celebrates each other's accomplishments but inspires you to push the boundaries of your comfort zone. My level of respect for all their inspiring fitness instructors is beyond words – the impact that these meta humans are creating in society is fundamental. SPENGA Santa Cruz makes fitness fun and it's always clean – try it and bring a friend!

I joined Spenga a few months after my wife had been going regularly and raving about it. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but after my first class, I completely got it. The way they combine spinning, strength training, and yoga into one 60-minute session is not only efficient, but it also keeps the workout balanced and never boring.
What really impressed me was the community. Everyone—from the instructors to the front desk staff to the other members—has been incredibly friendly and welcoming. The vibe is encouraging, not intimidating.
The instructors really know what they’re doing. They guide each part of the workout with energy, and they always keep an eye on form and safety. You can tell they’re passionate and well-trained, which goes a long way in making each class feel worthwhile.
I’ll be honest—it’s a bit on the pricey side, especially compared to bigger chain gyms. But considering the quality of the classes, the small class sizes, and the personalized attention, it makes sense. You’re supporting a smaller business that clearly puts a lot of thought and care into everything they do.
All in all, Spenga has been a great addition to my routine, and I’m glad my wife convinced me to give it a shot.

I love Spenga!. It's the best balance between aerobics, weights and peacefulness. I feel very good after every training. My mind and body feels waaay better that some months ago going to standard gyms. You progress at your own rhythm and they celebrate you at every step. Love it.
Update: I've been coming to SPENGA for over a year now, this is the longest I've been constant at a gym!

I've been going to Spenga for over 2 years and absolutely love it. Before that I had a regular gym membership that I rarely used and felt guilty for wasting money on each month. I wasn't confident walking into a gym and choosing the right machines or knowing how to use them. I don't have that feeling at all walking into Spenga. You have the direction of an instructor the entire time, guiding you through a spin session and then straight into weight training at your dedicated pod. Each exercise is demonstrated by the instructor as well as video references so there's never a concern about doing the wrong thing. After 40 minutes of hard WERK (as we say) your last stop is the yoga mat for much deserved stretching and decompressing. I am truly so thankful to have found the Spenga community and all that it has given me. I don't dread the gym anymore, I look forward to amazing workouts with enthusiastic instructors, energizing playlists and incredible people who cheer you on and celebrate your accomplishments.

I've been a member since Dec '24 and have been going twice a week, along with my regular gym workouts where I primarily strength train. What I love about Spenga is that it's 1 hour of spin, strength training and yoga (20-20-20min) and then you are DONE! I found the instructors that I vibe with and I always feel like I've had a really good workout. The trainers will help you with your form and/or give you a variation for strength training because the goal is to challenge yourself safely and without injury. And ending the workout with stretching is a good reminder that we all need to stretch and thank our bodies for a great workout.

Spenga is my early morning routine, the first thing I do before anything else. To “wake” up moving the body through the spin/strength/yoga feels fantastic in this body. The people exercising alongside me creates a community and the facilitators are each so supportive and skilled. I love Spenga! 💚.

Fun Fun Fun! Spenga Santa Cruz is THE BEST! The workouts are fun and always challenging, the music is loud and always on point for the workout. The instructors are inspiring, supportive, knowledgeable, and dedicated. The studio is super clean with lighting that’s ready to party! That’s what a Spenga session feels like to me, a really fun party with really awesome friends that I am always exhausted and uplifted after!
The 20 20 20 format was new to me and I love it! I don’t love a spin class but I love kicking my own booty for 20 minutes on a bike. Knowing you only have 20 minutes somehow makes you work that much harder.
My advice is just try it. It’s a really hard workout in a really excellent space with some really really cool people!

I’m the type of person who usually joins something, sticks with it for a little while, and then falls off the wagon. So when I started SPENGA, I had my doubts. Fast forward 1.5 years—and 318 sessions later—and I’m proud to say I’m a regular.
In my late 50s, I’m now in the best shape I’ve been in for the past 20 years. The combination of spin, strength, and yoga is the perfect balance—and every class leaves me feeling stronger, healthier, and more energized.
All the instructors are absolutely amazing. They’re encouraging, knowledgeable, and always bring great energy. They offer personalized suggestions to improve your form during the strength portion, and their uplifting messages keep me going even when I’m having an off day.
MK, the owner, is the heart of this community. She continually reinforces messages of body positivity and inclusivity. Her leadership and spirit create an environment that feels supportive, not intimidating—something that’s often hard to find in fitness spaces.
I love my SPENGA trainers and my SPENGA pals. This isn’t just a workout—it’s a community, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it.

I'm so sad to be posting this review after being a client at SPENGA Santa Cruz off and on for the last three years. Like many of the negative reviews here, my issue is not the workout itself. I would give the instructors and the workouts themselves a 5-star review. It's fun, intense and has a great community vibe.
They offer several different membership options, but the most affordable (the monthly - if you are going regularly) didn't make sense for me because I travel so much. So I've tended to do 10- or 20-class packages which is still $30 or $27 per session. Unfortunately, this spring I wasn't able to use all of my classes because of some joint issues. My health care provider recommended I avoid super high intensity workouts like HIIT and spinning, so I've only been going to yoga classes (I love Friday Revive classes with Treva!). Now, I'm moving out of state and have half of my classes left. When I asked if it was possible to get a partial refund, the owner Mary Kate said they were nonrefundable. Which is fair enough given it's a small business. But she also wouldn't allow me to transfer my remaining classes to a friend. Again, technically that's in the contract, but given the circumstances of moving it would have been a nice gesture.
Last fall, I bought several individual individual sessions on the Mind Body hat showed on the app I would have had a year to use them. Apparently it was a glitch in the system because MK said you can only use them within the month that you have a membership (which I did at that time). So she insisted on refunding the individual sessions and had me buy a more expensive class pass. I went with it because I enjoyed the workouts. But that flexibility doesn't extend both ways. I understand the no-refund policy, but I don't understand why transferring the classes would be an issue because it would be giving a new client a chance to visit the studio by using sessions that have already been paid for. This is in stark contrast to a remaining class pack I had at GOAT. They asked if I wanted a refund or wanted to transfer the classes to a friend without me even asking.
I love the idea of supporting a woman-owned local business, but this studio is not customer-friendly despite it's great staff. This is a disappointing end to what had otherwise been a positive three-year experience.

I have not worked out or really moved much in years. I saw ads about SPENGA’s 20m-20m-20m circuit of Spin, Strength, Yoga. I have never been to a gym, I don’t want to go to a busy, sweaty gym and wouldn’t even know what to do. My Santa Cruz SPENGA studio is clean, cool, bright, each member has their own equipment and plenty of room to WERK it.
SPENGA sets targets for you and tracks your progress via their easy app. The energy of the instructors is keeping me motivated. I have questions and at times I need a modification. The SPENGA instructor feels like my own personal trainer-at no extra cost! I joined to have better mobility, work on strengthening, improve my blood pressure, and as a result, I have lost a few
pounds. The SPENGA community is welcoming and consists of all ages, shapes and sizes. I am feeling better and stronger already!!

I’ve been going to Spenga for almost a year, and I absolutely love it! I prefer the early morning classes, and the staff—from the friendly gentleman who checks you in to the amazing instructors—are all fantastic. Each class has a unique sequence targeting different muscles while maintaining enough consistency to know what to expect. I especially enjoy when the instructors mix it up with unique music—it keeps the energy high and the experience fun! I really love SPENGA. The sessions are amazing. The combination of cardio (spin), strength (weights, trx..) and stretching (yoga) covers all you need in a workout routine. Finishing it all in a resting pose feels amazing in the body. The gym is very well organized, clean and welcoming. The exercises keep changing so it doesn’t get repetitive. I’ve been going for more than a year and I was hooked from my very first session. Sometimes I travel for long periods of time and one of the things I miss the most when I’m away are the SPENGA classes. The instructors give very clear directions and know very well how to keep you motivated and push yourself in spin and strength. I couldn’t recommend it more.

I've tried countless exercise classes locally. From major gyms, to personal trainers, to small settings.
As soon as I tried my first SPENGA class I knew I was hooked. From the warm and inviting welcome from the staff, to the thorough explanation, support and ability for adaptations from the coach, it felt very comfortable to continue my fitness journey.
I also appreciate how thorough the sanitation is. It smells nice, it's clean, after each session/station, the staff sanitizes to prepare for the next class.
There is cute merchandise to buy, snacks, water, energy drinks and the bathrooms are stocked with free products to feel fresh after a good exercise. I've already convinced family members to sign up and I look forward to my future with the SPENGA fam!

This review has nothing to do with the SPENGA workout. In fact, I think the workout itself is great and anyone that might be interested in trying it should do so. I also really enjoyed the instructors; Ariana in particular is awesome! From a workout and staff perspective, I would give 5 stars all day long.
Unfortunately, I am giving a one star review based on the poor customer service from the owner of this studio. For several personal reasons, I decided that I did not want to continue my membership. Per the contract, I came to the studio in Feb to cancel. After discussing with one of the front staff, I decided to pause my membership at a cost of $15 per month (same paperwork to pause or cancel). Based on the conversation we had, if I wanted to cancel, I could just call the following month and it would be taken care of. I ended up extending my paused membership for the following month so two months in total.
The following month, I forgot to call and I was charged the regular membership fee of $189. OK fine, my fault. The next month, I called on the date I was charged another $189 and was told that I needed to come into the studio to sign the cancellation paperwork. I explained that I had already done that and just needed to finalize per my original agreement with the front desk person in Feb. I was told the owner was busy and would call me back. The next month, I was charged again the $189. So I called and went through the same explanation with a new person. Same response, that the owner was busy and would call me back. I even received a text message saying the owner would call me back. No call back was ever received. So I then communicated with the studio front desk staff again multiple times explaining my situation. At this point, I was just asking that they refund the last $189 charge and I would eat the previous two charges. There was never a call back from the owner, just text messages saying they would not refund me. I ended up going down to the studio to sign the same exact paperwork that I signed in Feb. And I requested one last time to please refund the last $189 charge. As expected, no response or action taken by the owner except to keep my money.
I really did not want to write this review. As I mentioned in the beginning, I really enjoyed SPENGA. It is a real shame that the owner decided that doing the right thing was not in her best interest.

SPENGA Santa Cruz has been such an incredible experience for me these last 18 months. Prior to joining this gym I’ve done every kind of workout, from step aerobics to CrossFit to Pilates, but I had never practiced yoga, and have found this in particular to be such a transformative experience at the end of this 20/20/20 workout (spin/weights/yoga). The instructors are highly trained, friendly, accessible, inspiring and supportive. You are welcomed by the most lovely people into a beautiful space that is cool and smells like lemons and they sanitize everything for you after every class. I like the periodic challenges, the community that has formed, and the 20 pounds I’ve shed 😊
I think this model is the future of fitness and I wish I had thought of it first. I love it here, I’m all in.

Because people seem to read negative reviews over positive ones. Here is my review of instructor MaryKate at Spenga Santa, Cruz.
Mary Kate is an absolute horrible instructor at letting you quit. If you don’t want to feel motivated, empowered, and better about yourself after you work out then she is not the instructor for you. Let me lay it out for you.
First, Spenga starts with 20 minutes of spin. Taking you to zones and endurance, you didn’t even know you had. As the sweat starts to roll down your back and into your eyes, Mary Kate, asks you to push into another zone three. This is where your eyes roll back into your head. You start to call the sweet instructor you saw in the lobby, 10 minutes earlier every name you can think of. As your legs start to shake, and you have visions of yourself, lying on the floor next to your bike, the countdown starts 5… 4… 4… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1. What, who counts that slow? Now you are back to the recovery zone and you catch your breath. Just as your breath starts to settle, Mary Kate fills you with one of the most motivational stories, giving you the gift of powerful self talk. You are ready to battle to the finish line.
Again the sweating and the slow counting 5…..4…..3….3….2…..1. You have reached the end of one of the most rewarding spin classes you have ever taken. You didn’t fall off your bike. You did cry, but so did the person next to you. You are now bonded to the stranger for life.
You make your way into the strength room. You’re thankful it’s dark because you are not sure if your sweat proof pants are actually holding up. Watching Mary Kates weight demo you look around the room and are greeted with smiles and heavy breathing. During strength your mind switches back-and-forth from, I hate you Mary Kate, too I am doing it!!!!! As the last minute counts down 3….2…..2….1. “ put your weights away and meet me at the top of the mat” says MaryKate. At this point, you don’t even care if your pants are holding up. You take off your sweat, drenched socks and shoes.
How did Mary Kate just motivate me to do 40 real push-ups? I think God only knows at this point.
Yoga yes,I made it to yoga!!! I have never been so happy in my life to take yoga. Mary Kate, smooth and calming voice, guiding us through a series of yoga. The moves are really helping open up the muscles that we just went through battle with. As you lay in your last resting pose, you realized you didn’t even think about your sweat drenched pants. You sit up to meet Mary Kates, beautiful smile and she fills your heart with more motivation and pride. After a thankful group cheer you collect your shoes like weapons left on the battlefield. Looking around for your new friends you find the faces of all the superheroes from the last battle of the Avengers Endgame. You’re now part of the Valkyrie, of Spenga. You file into the lobby with your new friends, knowing everything is all right now. The world will be OK. You defeated Thanos and earned every bit of the perfume wafting from your body. Mary Kate has led your group to the end of the world and back again.
So let’s get down to the real part of this review. Mary Kate counts really slow.

Had a great experience my first class. Was back in town (I live 1 1/2 hours away - in SF), and booked over 72 hours in advance via ClassPass. They wait till I go to check-in for class to tell me they don’t take ClassPass and will have to pay. No courtesy class or remedy, no email in advance on the update, but “pay us” for the class, irregardless of their mistake. I planned my AM around this class and was looking forward to it, as I’m in the area 1x a month, but the poor customer service put a bad taste in my mouth. No thanks. They cancelled my class 7 minutes before class started (when I was at the desk), so therefore they’re CANCELLED.

My husband and I joined last month. We LOVE it! The room is dark for the spin class and has great electronic music. The strength exercises change each session which makes it not boring. The yoga is more like a traditional gym type of yoga and less of a studio. A very special treat is sundays a meditation and sound class happens after the last spenga class. It’s amazing and Rayne is great at both the spenga portion and mediation&sound. Also! 1st week is free if you’re skeptical of the workout like we were and they are so nice about giving you it.

I am so excited about SPENGA! I am an avid hiker, but had not done a gym workout in a long time. I was looking for something to try and am so glad I tried SPENGA! It is so much fun. The instructors, the music, the workouts; it is all so motivating. It's a very supportive environment and you can modify to fit your fitness level. I love the format with 20 minutes of Spin (which I had never done before), 20 minutes of strength, and 20 minutes of yoga. I feel amazing when I am finished. It is truly addicting.
